Great read. I agree with his main argument. "Encouraging states like Abkhazia to flourish and proliferate has created precisely the kind of second-class statehood, with uncertain rights and responsibilities in the international system, that diplomacy was designed over the last several centuries to avoid." Also, the chief concern of our Arab brothers in the Arab League resonates well with what Somali patriots from all walks of life know is true will happen. AU's concern is also legitimate in light of thr integration of Europe and the rise of the Asian economy led by China. United we stand.

Ngonge, thanks for that. Great piece. I think we should learn from our Galbeed brethrens. The author writes more like Nuruddin Fatah. "Which Way to the Sea please?"

Somalis in the Horn are 25 million and above. But we need to rack up our quality indicators. Yes we can.

Expect Ethiopia to dominate Greater Somalia so long we are fractured into clans and subclans. Either we rise as a nation or remain enslaved by the indirect rule of Ethiopia in collusion with Kenya, with AU and the West being always sympathetic to the policy direction of these 2 states---out of enduring interest.

An inspiring mother! Thanks Nina 4 the valuable coverage of Dr. Hawo's triumphs and struggles and her blessed 2 daughters. Every Somali woman who is capable of emulating or exceeding the charitable services of Dr. Hawo must do so, I urge. Somali women build and sustain our society. Bless them.

Kamaavi, after all, he is forced to compromise his stated false principles of Somaliwayn to be at least save in his interim positon and secure Meles' support. Hargeisa and Garowe do the same thing. It's business as usual and a perfect example of stoogism. You will never see him condemn Ethiopia's routine crossings of the administrative border and the harsh mistreatment of ethnic Somalis within the occupied ****** region. ONLF and the Somali community must condemn our puppet leaders. Somalia shall rise one day.

Zack, post some Jaandheer or Saylici dance. GaroweGal, adigana post some nice ones. Dhaanto is dominating the scene. Needs competition.

A strong PL is good for Somalia but not with Faroole and Ilkajir and Cabdisamad. A structural reform is needed sooner than later.
-
Saalax, the likes of you always come with a package of pre-conceived judgment, not fully aware of the sophisticated nature of the two political rivalries and their deep ties in many areas too advanced for the secessionists. Ilkajiir has been promising of this financial support, but I doubt of his genuine commitment. Another public relations exercise.

Obama admin has already voiced its concern of Puntland's subcontracting of a private security and its provision of equipment and training. It is a direct violation of the UN arms embargo on Somalia. On the other side of the Galgala conflict, local reports indicate new efforts to consolidate the SSC and Maakhir political movements and unify its leadership. it's not clear who is backing it up, perhaps a new Western backed policy to counter the dangerous trajectory of Puntland' s clan-based hegemony. Ps. Quite busy, I will contribute more Inshallah.
-
Good news to the hard core Puntlanders, but it confirms what we have been saying all along, that inter-clan rivalry and the hunt for resources - oil & minerals - were the primary factors driving the conflict. PL was certainly aided by outside intelligence and logistics. But now it's a different outlook, one that invites a non-state actor, vultures, plus a direct violation of the UN arms embargo on Somalia.
