  1. We need to evaluate the talents of the new singers like Kaskey and Jazz who are extremely talented to have their own songs. The old ones won't forever sing for us. It seems we share some cultural patterns with Arabs. Abdi-Qadir Moalin Juba has added in his last album one of his songs voiced by Abdi Nur Jazz since Jazz's sacharine voice performed much better than his. I am not lying, you can check that album in stores. "Dharaartii la joogaba waa kugu dhadhabayaa"

  5. ^I know the effect of charcoal burning in that part of Erigavo and even some places in Sanaag. Al-madow Mts is different than Surad and is even much greener. What we need to understand here is that these places in Al-madow are family-owned blocks. It is very hard to own lands there or settle without the approval of these families whom ancestrally inherited from father to son. Btw, these pictures are new. Some people once made the argument on the previous pictures of Al-madow as though they were old and irrelevant due to environmental degradation of present Somalia. but hey, if you can't prove , i will believe those pictures as they are. Again, Surad is not Al-Madow.
  6. Ngonge, I don't think that wearing veil that covers the whole face is required of Muslim girls. They wear it out of pious act or of their husbands' preference. In case a Muslim is confronted with such situations under maximum security, a Muslim can use his or her judgement even if that violates the rules of religion. For instance, she was forced to show her hair(which is Cawra) in Islam. She could reject it but she made the right decision. She is very good Mu'min. Another example is when you don't know where the Qibla is and see no one to ask that direction of Mecca where All Muslims face, you are still allowed to use your judgement and pray towards any direction you might believe is the right one.
  7. In Sool plateau from Booxaaro to Taleex, some sub-clans are known to have some special power that they can use to appeal the Jin. I even met a person who told me that he had believed this power in them. --------------------- Jinn in Islam Muslims believe that jinn are real beings. The jinn are said to be creatures with free will, made of smokeless fire by God (the literal translation being "subtle fire", i.e., a fire which does not give itself away through smoke), much in the same way humans were made of a metaphorical clay. In the Qur'an, jinn are frequently mentioned and Sura 72 of the Qur'an named Al-Jinn is entirely about them. Another Sura (Al- Naas) mentions the Jinn in the last verse. In fact, the Prophet Muhammad was said to have been sent as a prophet to both "humanity and the jinn." The jinn have communities much like human societies: they eat, marry, die, etc. They are invisible to humans, but they can see humans. Sometimes they accidentally or deliberately come into view or into contact with humans. Jinn are beings much like humans, possessing the ability to be good and bad. Evil or malicious jinn are called "Ifrit" usually they're malicious due to their feeling they have been usurped by humans, example "Shaitan". To protect oneself against evil jinn, Muslims say the Arabic phrase,"Bismillahi! Allahumma inna 'audhu bika minal khubthi wal khabaa'ith", or another dhikr.[1] They have the power to transform into other animals and humans, and they are known to prefer the form of a snake. It is also known that they eat bones and their animals eat droppings, that is why it is forbidden to perform Istinja (washing) with those items. Jinns also have the power to possess humans, have much greater strength than them, and live much longer lives. In fact, according to some hadith, the great-grandson of Iblis, or the Devil (who was born before mankind), converted to Islam during the time of Muhammad, so he must have been thousands of years old. According to the majority of Islamic scholars, Qur'an states that the Devil was not an angel (which is believed by Christians), but a jinn, citing the Quranic verse "And when We said to the angels:'Prostrate yourselves unto Adam.' So they prostrated themselves except Iblis (The Devil). He was one of the jinn..." Surat Al-Kahf,[Quran 18:50]. According to Islam, angels are different physical beings, and unlike the fiery nature of jinn, they are beings of goodness and cannot choose to disobey God, nor do they possess the ability to do evil. Evil Ifrit in The Book of One Thousand and One Nights are called "the seed of Iblis". In Islam-associated mythology, the jinn were said to be controllable by magically binding them to objects, as Suleiman (Solomon) most famously did; the Spirit of the Lamp in the story of Aladdin was such a jinni, bound to an oil lamp. Ways of summoning jinn were told in The Thousand and One Nights: by writing the name of God in Hebraic characters on a knife (whether the Hebrew name for God, Yaweh, or the Arabic Allah is used is not specified), and drawing a diagram (possibly a pentagram) and strange symbols and incantations around it. It is said that one could kill a jinn with the Inwa, a manner of throwing the stone of a fruit so hard so it could, in fact, kill something. The jinn's power of possession was also addressed in the Nights. It is said that by taking seven hairs out of the tail of a cat that was all black except for a white spot on the end of its tail, and then burning the hairs in a small closed room with the possessed, filling their nose with the scent, this would release them from the spell of the jinn inside them. In the Qur'an, Solomon (Arabic: Suleiman) had members of his army belonging to the race of jinn. Solomon had the ability to communicate with all creatures, which allowed him to communicate with the jinn as well. Evil beings from among the jinn are roughly equivalent to the demons of Christian lore. In mythology, jinn have the ability to possess human beings, both in the sense that they persuade humans to perform actions, and like the Christian perception of demonic possession. Now a days people say that they have seen the jinn and some people believe and say that they have a jinn inside their bodies and takes over sometimes in the form of a fit. Source: Wikipedia

  10. Premier appoints committee to address flooding Baidabo, Nov 19(Dhahar)-The prime minister of the interim Somali government has appointed an eight-member committee to address the flooding of some regions in Somalia following bursting of the banks of Shabeelle and Jubba rivers. Shadiya Muhumed Abdi has the details: The committee which is in charge of the flooding of the rivers and their effects named by the prime minister of the interim Somali government Prof Ali Muhammad Gedi, is headed by the Interior minister and deputy premier, Engineer Husayn Muhammad Aydid. The committee also included the ministers of agriculture of the interim Somali government Abdiqadir Nur Arale, Health minister Abdiaziz Shaykh Yusuf and some other assistant ministers and state ministers. The spokesman of the interim Somali government, Abdirahman Nur Muhammad Dinari said the government was responsible for promoting the interest of all the Somali people. And the government was accountable. The functions of the committee are unknown because most of the regions affected by the flooding are controlled by the Union of the Islamic Courts which is greatly opposed to the interim Somali government. The appointment comes at a time when the Union Islamic Courts have appointed a 15-member committee in Mogadishu to assess the damage caused by flooding of the rivers. Dhahar Online
  11. Jaylani, Jamac's adminstration never had a success to begin with. Nepotism was rife and there was hardly any build up of his capacity to provide security to the regions of Mudug and Sool and Sanaag from outside aggression. Abdilahi's term changed the whole political and economic landscape, secured Las Anod from the grip of the secessionist, signed an accord with the clans of the Southern Mudug to prevent the city from perpetual clashes and hostility. It was all success that can't be denied. Having improved the security of the region, business and investment from abroad and far regions of Somalia increased, which then expanded the Department of Treasury to undertake projects that of beneficial to the public: Schools, roads, airport, health centers, etc.
  12. Xalane, how many prisoners China executes each year? That # is unbelievable with many of them wrongly executed ,eg. many protestors from the Muslim province whose struggle for their freedom to practice their religion and local affairs began under the rule of Mao Zedong have been subjected to military oppression, a directive from the government of Shanghai to persecute indiscrimately.
  13. Duke, This post is by far the best of your political analysis of the Transitional Federal Government. I was admired at how you explained the authority of TFG , which does not extend to all over Somalia. Having said that, the TFG has more opportunities than all other transitional governments before it and one way it can work on the opportunity before its eyes is to work with the Islamist movement through political dialogue. The failure of the first and second round reconciliation meetings held in Khartoum can be renewed and held in Yemen. I think the Yemen accord led to successful results when the Federal Parliament was split. Let us try Yemen this time with Ali Abdullah Saleh presiding it.

  15. Time to get break from Somalia's chaos and confusion. --------------------------- Fox Cancels 'If I Did It' Book Release, and Interview Won't Air ABC News By DAVID MUIR, GRACE HUANG, and LARA SETRAKIAN Nov. 21, 2006 — The O.J. Simpson project entitled "If I Did It" is done. The interview won't air. The book won't hit store shelves. The book was a strange, morbid work of historical fiction in which Simpson described how he would have murdered Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman had he been the killer. It was not a confession, but a hypothetical tell-all. Fox Broadcasting, the sister company of Simpson's publisher, Harper Collins, was set to broadcast a two-hour interview featuring Simpson. The combination of primetime television hours and a presumably chart-topping book would have made millions for parent company News Corp. and Simpson. A clip of the canceled interview quotes Simpson in the book saying, "I have never seen so much blood in my life." The interview was set to run next week during November sweeps, the period when networks try to capture their highest ratings, which set rates for advertisers. The book was scheduled to come out Nov. 30. But then, in the face of intense public backlash against the project, the man behind the deal called the whole thing off. In a statement on Monday, News Corp. chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch said, "I and senior management agree with the American public that this was an ill-considered project." Murdoch also conveyed his apologies for the project's emotional fallout. "We are sorry for any pain this has caused the families of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson." Money Matters Simpson was given an advance for the project. Although the exact amount had not been made public, early reports said the entire book deal was worth $3.5 million. Simpson won't be keeping a dime of it if the Goldman family has its way. When asked whether he'd be heading to court in an attempt to get some of Simpson's earnings from the projects, Fred Goldman, the father of murder victim Ron Goldman, said, "Oh yeah, absolutely." According to a 1997 civil lawsuit decision, Simpson owes $33.5 million for the wrongful deaths of Goldman and Brown Simpson. "He's going to have barking dogs on his behind for the rest of his life," Goldman said. "The bottom line is it's our only way to punish the SOB." Simpson's lawyer, Yale Galanter, says Simpson will keep the advance despite the canceled interview and book release. Galanter also told ABC News that any money Simpson received to date had gone to his children. Legal experts told ABC News that by giving any income from the book to his children, Simpson made it more difficult for the Goldman family to collect any of the proceeds. Simpson did not write the book himself; ghostwriters penned it for him. When ABC News asked Fred Goldman whether he found that surprising, Goldman said, "He's probably not smart enough to do it [himself]." O.J. 'Indifferent' to the Canceled Project Simpson was indifferent when he heard that the project had been canceled, his attorney said. "He was not angry or surprised, just indifferent," Galanter told ABC News. Fred Goldman's reaction was, predictably, quite different. "I was thrilled," Goldman said hours after the decision. "We're happy that News Corp. did the right decision and undid something they shouldn't have done in the first place." Galanter shared Goldman's sentiments. "I am thrilled," Galanter said. "I was against this project. It was in bad taste, and I am glad it is being canceled." Kim Goldman, Ron Goldman's sister, issued a statement saying that she was shocked when she learned of the cancellation, but she called Fox's turnaround the responsible choice and the right thing to do. "I think the bottom line is that everyone was outraged," Fred Goldman said. "Thanks to the American public for standing up for what's right." Harsh Words for Fox Over the last week, America reacted to the project with furor. Along with the public outrage came mounting criticism of the project from both inside and outside the Fox network. A dozen Fox affiliates refused to air it. Even the face of Fox News, television host Bill O'Reilly, railed against it. "You know it's all about money," O'Reilly said on his broadcast "The O'Reilly Factor." "I don't know what they were thinking, but certainly anything they were thinking started with the dollar sign," Ken Auletta of The New Yorker told ABC News. Dominick Dunne, the famed Vanity Fair writer who believes Simpson is guilty of the slayings, applauded Murdoch's cancellation of the book and television special. "I'm ecstatic," said Dunne, who had a daily courtroom seat at the Simpson criminal trial. "I admire what Rupert Murdoch did today. The statement he made was excellent. He had the great courtesy to apologize to the Goldman and Brown families." On ABC News' "20/20" last Friday, Dunne criticized the book and interview, saying "I'm blaming [publisher] Judith [Regan] and Rupert Murdoch and Fox for exploiting this, and I think they're cheapening themselves." After the project cancellation, Dunne still had harsh words for Regan. "Judith Regan got rebuked heavily, and it was tacky to use the excuse that she had been abused herself," he said. Book's Secrets Still Revealed? Despite the controversy, Americans were lining up to read "If I Did It." By Sunday, preorders had put it in the Top 15 best-selling books on Amazon.com. One source told ABC News that 400,000 copies of the book had already been printed, though it's unclear whether those books have been shipped. According to The Associated Press, HarperCollins spokeswoman Erin Crum said some copies had already been shipped to stores. However, she said, they would be recalled, and all copies would be destroyed. But those curious about what Simpson had to say might still get their fill. While his book may never hit the shelves officially, don't be surprised if they become downloadable content on the Internet, some media experts say. The pull of an intrigued public will draw out at least some of the canceled content, said Robert Thompson, founding director of the Center for the Study of Popular Television at Syracuse University. "It's not going to be at the end of November, but these tapes will be seen. … This book will be published in one form or another," Thompson said. "This little project is going to rear its ugly, little head again before this is all over." Watch the News
  16. China Admits Selling Prisoners' Organs November 21, 2006 10:22 AM ABC news Anna Schecter Reports For the first time, the Chinese government has admitted selling the organs of executed prisoners for profit, a gruesome business it had denied for years. Speaking at a national conference of transplant surgeons in Guangzhou last week, Vice-Minister of Health Huang Jiefu admitted, "Apart from a small portion of traffic victims, most of the organs from cadavers are from executed prisoners," according to the China Daily, a state-run English-language newspaper published in Beijing. Harry Wu, a former political prisoner in China and human rights activist, says that Huang's statement is an important admission. "Ten years ago I talked about this, ABC and BBC reported, Congress held hearings about this, and China always denied it, saying 'No, no, no, never,'" said Wu. "And this time, they said 'Yes.'" Wu assisted ABC News' 1997 Primetime investigation where the story, "Blood Money: Black Market for Kidneys from Chinese Prisoners," first broke. According to the published account, the health vice-minister complained that foreigners were getting the vast majority of the organs because they could better afford to pay than Chinese citizens. The cost of a prisoner's kidney has been estimated by human rights groups at about $90,000. Wu says that poor Chinese are selling their organs on the black market, even though it is now illegal in China to sell organs for profit. A Ministry of Health official in Beijing declined to comment, saying that ABC News needed to submit a written application for an interview. Sophie Richardson, an Asia expert for Human Rights Watch, says China still has a long way to go to improve its human rights standards. "This is the beginning of an effort to look like it's responding to concerns about some pretty grotesque behavior." The Chinese government established a special committee to crack down on the organ black market earlier this year.

  19. SOL is a forum that is open for everyone who is entitled to his opinion. The opener of this thread is implying that discussants blaspheme our beuatiful religion since Islam is a religion, so using its generic name to accuse the forum as opposed to the participants who are criticial of the courts' activities is very fanatic campaign and politically illusive gesture to smother the expression of others in the service of the moderators. In no way have we advocated for trashing our religion. That sums up a blasphemic language and hence intolerable to the etiquates of our debate. It even violates the golden rules of Somaliaonline. And I therefore ask Somaliaonline to delete this thread and warn members of their fanatic actions until they are brushed up with the tools and techniques of debate based on our constructive criticisms and goodwill--the appropriate use of language to address your oponents.
