By Alexander Dziadosz SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt, Feb 16 (Reuters) - Egypt's ousted president has given up and wants to die in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh where he has been living since a popular uprising ended his rule, a Saudi official said on Wednesday. Hosni Mubarak, 82, has suffered from health problems in recent years and travelled to Germany for gall bladder surgery in March last year. Reports of a further decline have increased since he stepped down on Friday after three decades in power. An official in Saudi Arabia said the kingdom had offered to host Mubarak but he was determined to see out his days in Egypt. Official confirmation could not immediately be obtained from the Saudi government. "He is not dead but is not doing well at all and refuses to leave. Basically, he has given up and wants to die in Sharm," said the Saudi official, who asked not to be named. Mubarak vowed to die in Egypt when he addressed the country's 80 million people last week while still clinging to power. More

Mubarak assets frozen by Swiss government NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Switzerland's government moved Friday to freeze any assets in the country's banks that might belong to former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak or his family, the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs said Friday. Mubarak ended his 30-year reign Friday, stepping down following 18 days of protests against his rule. (CNN.com's coverage) An official statement from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs said the Swiss cabinet had frozen all funds belong to Mubarak or "his circles." "The [government] intends in doing so to avoid any risk of embezzlement of Egyptian state property," the statement read. "At the same time, the cabinet calls on responsible authorities in Egypt to comply with the justified demands of the Egyptian people in a quick, credible, participatory and transparent manner." The government does not know what assets, if any, the banks have, said Norbert Baerlocher, a spokesman for the Swiss embassy in Washington. It is widely believed that Mubarak and his family are extremely wealthy, but estimates as to his total net worth vary widely and haven't been confirmed. On Tuesday, the Swiss finance minister had asked the banks to see what Mubarak assets they were holding. The banks do not yet have a "clear picture" of what is held, the spokesman said. This is normal procedure when the Swiss government believes there might be assets of a foreign leader who is "politically exposed," Baerlocher said. The Swiss banking system is known for its secrecy. But in recent years, the banks have made concessions in the interest of providing more transparency. -- CNN's Ben Brumfield and CNNMoney's Charles Riley assisted with this report

No joke. The armed forced will take over. I can't believe Omar Suleyman made a two or three short sentence statements. So short announcement compared to his long threatening address last night. Ayman Mohyadiin live on AJ English. The protesters get their answer after long 18 day. Glad this cow is gone out of power. I hope the military do the right thing.

Just in. The cow is gone finally. Omar Suleyman just made a brief announcement. Good day for Egypt.

Jordan's king dismisses government, appoints new PM

I get your points Gheele but was just pointing out the irony and the mixed messages. I don't think these leaders have agenda of their own. They are kept in a box and on a leash that they can't literally get out of. Explains the level Mubarak is so detached from reality on the ground. I think a good replacement of Mubarak is not there yet but once that replacement is found, he's out. lol@Che. Of course I am articulating the average Joe on the street. Bush promotes democracy and regime change for eight years. Clinton says Iranians should have a right to self-determination to true democracy. Obama goes there and speaks the need for reform and democracy. I know not everyone understands the gray area to everything. -

^It's not a cudur. It's the loud calls for democracy Washington has been urging in the Middle East far too long. We often heard Israel is the only democratic country in the ME. Way too many, we heard George Bush push democracy in ME. I think finally the people of the ME heard them calls loud and clear. Washington is getting its calls answered. Palestinian and Iraqis make up more than half of the population in Jordan, I don't know if their protests has as much momentum as masaarida. -
^Horta isbitaalka miyuu ka soo baxay? King Cabdallah daacad kama aha. His strong words for the protesters were aimed more at his own Saudi citizens than Egyptians. He doesn't want to see Riyadh becoming another Qaahira or Tunis. Mubarak must be feeling like a used and abused dirty diaper and about to be dropped in the garbage. He can't play that game he's been playing for the last thirty years. I am the only guy for you here or you've got these crazy Ikhwaans. That card wuu gubtay. The aid is off the table. Labo dhagax dhexdooduu u galay. Accept Washington's calls to reform or ka qax meesha. For your Lazy: Congressman Keith Ellison Stands with Egyptian Protesters “The Middle East would be a much more powerful and dynamic place if there were less authoritarian regimes, and historically the U.S. has supported all of them,” Ellison said in an interview. “We’re always on the side of “stability” rather than justice. So let’s get on the right side this time.”

Is there any records, stats, or documentation of the death toll of Somali civil war? Today marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of Siyaad Barre and the beginning of the brutal Civil War that led to Somalia what is has become. Given the million plus news websites, news networks/org, and the plenty of journalists and TVs we have, anyone keeping a record of the death toll of this civil war? I understand the difficult of such task but there's gotta be a way to at least know how many of our own we have killed. I read somewhere around 300 thousand died in the conflict + starvation but something is telling me the bulk of this casualty is Mogadisho and Baydhabo alone. What about the rest of the South? PL and SL?

Cilmi yari waxan bey dhashaa. Since when diinta become a tool for bullying and interrogating the masaakiin? The man behind the camera failed to understand one of the most basic hadith of the prophet; islam is for naseexa and waano for all. And who appointed them to question people's salaat, sadaqo or sowm? When people are under duress and imminent threat of death as this poor farmer was, they act strange and speak all sorts of things. But this guy kept together and answered the questions, even got some of them right. I don't understand what compelled the guy to say shahaadadaan kuu qabanaa afterwards but was asking to say the shahaada few short seconds ago? Just shows the level of jaahilnimadiisa himself. The whole video was just a waste of time expect in the end the farmer made sense when he told him the country has gone through brutal civil war and no educational system or institution is available to people like him. He said who is to teach quran iyo dugsi when people don't have security and food. Without nabad iyo nolol, no learning is possible. These monkeys couldn't figure that one out and yet kept humiliating and theatening the man's life. The farmer deserves better. -

Suspected Oregon Terror Act Yet Another Plot Foiled Because Of Intelligence Provided By A Muslim Over the weekend, Somali-American 19 year-old Mohamed Osman Mohamud was arrested following an FBI sting operation discovering that Mohamud, apparently holding grievances about U.S. foreign policy, allegedly plotted to detonate a car bomb during a Christmas Tree-lighting ceremony. Following his arrest, the mosque he attended — the Salman Alfarisi Islamic Center — released a statement saying it was “outraged” by news of the alleged plot and condemned the Mohamud’s plans. “Salman Alfarisi Islamic Center and the entire Muslim Community of Corvallis are outraged by the news of a teenage individual being involved in a plot to bomb the tree lighting event in Portland, Oregon,” the statement said. “Such conduct does not in any way represent Islam or Muslims, rather it goes against it.” Nevertheless, the day after the mosque released the statement unequivocally condemning terrorism, it fell victim to terrorism itself. On Sunday, an apparent arsonist set fire to the mosque, burning 80 percent of the Islamic center’s office before it was put out. What is perhaps most ironic about an arsonist apparently attacking the area’s Muslim community in response to the alleged plot is that the FBI only began tracking Mohamud thanks to a tip from his Muslim father. A member of the Somali-American community in the area informs Time magazine that Mohamud’s father, Osman Barre, had “informed Homeland Security and the FBI that something was going on with his son” before the two agencies began tracking him and eventually arrested him: Mohamud’s mother and father and his two sisters have remained silent since his arrest. (The Oregonian identified the parents as Mariam and Osman Barre; they reportedly split up a few years ago.) However, one prominent member of the Somali community in Portland (estimated to number 8,000) says a relative played some role in helping to put the FBI on the young man’s trail — though that relative was almost certainly unaware of the scale it would assume. “Before this happened, the father informed Homeland Security and the FBI that something was going on with his son,” claims Isgow Mohamed, the executive director of the Northwest Somali Community Organization, who says he knows Mohamud’s family well and had been in touch with them. “This a good family. The father is an engineer at Intel. This is not somebody who is on public assistance. He is a family man, a businessman, a religious man, a soccer player.“ As Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) said at an event earlier this year sponsored by the Center for American Progress Action Fund, “about a third of all foiled al-Qaida-related plots in the U.S. relied on support or information provided by members of the Muslim community.” A recent MPAC report details numerous plots stopped thanks to the help of Muslim Americans, including the recent attempted car bombing of Times Square, which was foiled in part by the help of Senegalese Muslim immigrant Alioune Niass. Update Local news station KOIN Local 6 covered the arson attack and a "Peace and Unity Rally" that area Somali-Americans held in response to the alleged car bombing plot. The station also confirmed with local community leaders that Mohamud's father first began to reach out to the FBI and Homeland Security in September of last year and will be making a statement in the next few days. ^lol@naaqusaatul caqli wa diin'... ****** people ! LOL. Ismalura: women staying at home has nothing to do with naaqisaatul-caqli wa diin. By the way, it's hadeeth not AS thing. Nothing to do with AS or the status of women in Islam either. I don't want to say the obvious, but women and men are equal Alle diintiisa and AS have little regard for diinta. If this piece is genuine, it shows the distance AS goes to satisfy their thirst for blood and hunger for power and control. AS brought many horrible things to Somalia and recruiting young girls to a never ending dagaal-sokeeye.

^Midkaaga Boomboomta la baxay, daacdaacsiga meesha kala tag. FBI apparently set up US teen blamed for fake car bomb Boy told undercover agents he could get a gun because he's a "rapper"; authored article containing "jihad" workout tips An Somali-born, American teenager was apparently set up by federal law enforcement officials who posed as radical Islamic fighters and lured the young man into a plot he believed would lead him to detonate a car bomb at an Oregon Christmas tree lighting ceremony. The bomb, provided by FBI agents, was "inert" and did not pose a threat to public safety, according to the US Attorney's Office in Oregon. Oddly enough, Arthur Balizan, an FBI agent in Oregon, contradicted the US Attorney's Office, suggesting that the threat posed by 19-year-old Mohamed Osman Mohamud "was very real." Except: "[At] every turn," he explained, "we denied him the ability to actually carry out the attack." The story rings devastatingly familiar when stacked next to the tale of Hosam Maher Husein Smadi, a Jordanian man arrested in 2009, at age 19, for allegedly planning to detonate a car bomb in a Dallas skyscraper. Each boy was led down the path to imagined violence by federal agents, with authorities ultimately providing fake bombs in both cases. Smadi and Mohamud, officials claim, expressed a desire to engage in terrorist attacks before agents began luring them in. Federal agents noticed Mohamud in December 2009, after he allegedly communicated with a suspected terrorist in Pakistan. Months later, an undercover agent contacted Mohamud claiming to be the individual's associate, and Mohamud agreed to meet in Portland. Agents claimed that Mohamud revealed himself to be the author of a bizarre 2009 article for the English-language "Jihad Recollections" magazine. The story made headlines for it's comical images of masked fighters helping each other exercise. Other articles in the 70+ page magazine published in North Carolina included a preview of "emp technology," poetry, speeches from Osama bin Laden and a how-to guide to global jihad. One key thing, however, was oddly lacking from the magazine's first edition: as even Fox News noted, it did not explicitly call for violence against anyone. The magazine also featured quotes from Tennessee Republican Congressman Zach Wamp, who made headlines again last July for suggesting that his state secede from the US. Agents also reveal in court documents that Mohamud had told them he might be able to get a gun, because he was a "rapper." "We were unable to determine Mohamud's Jihadi emcee name, or the potency of his flow," Gawker quipped. Court documents claim the first meeting between Mohamud and the FBI took place in July, 2010. In the months following, agents ostensibly worked him up to the point where he was willing to flip the switch on a car bomb. Agents even took Mohamud to a secluded location to blow up a bomb they placed in a backpack, allegedly as a test run. Mohamud was arrested by FBI agents and Portland police around 5:40 pm Friday, after he attempted to remotely detonate what he believed to be an explosives-laden van. Officials claimed that early on Friday, Mohamud had recorded a video explaining why he wanted to carry out the attack. "I want whoever is attending that event to leave, to leave either dead or injured," he said, according to law enforcement. Mohamud is scheduled to appear in federal court on Monday. With AFP. Source
