Originally posted by Kashanre: Sayid, you, in a non-comprehensible way, keep alleging, along with comment from the eloquent Rahima, the Ulama said all the while forgetting it is not in the position of the Ulama to revoke anyone's Islamic(ness). Who are they to do so? How are they sure of their own fate? They do not, so they cannot be classified as a deciding factor on who is a Muslim or not so long as people are prefessing or (in Somali) diinta qiranahayaan. It has been prophosised that a great number of those deemed Ulama will be among the inhabitants of hell and that Islam, at the end, will have been divided into 74 schools of thought with 73 of those classified as wrong! Those member will not necessarily be called non-believers but it is certain they will some sort of temporary punishment. As long as we know of that end, who can say which madhab is right or wrong? Who has the power or authority to weigh in on the situation when clearly we do not know if we, ourselves, the accusers, are following that lone right madhab or not! I’ll tell you who can make the judgment. The Sunnah, Qur’an and hadiths plus jamhural Uluma can reach a verdict on the state of your Islam(ness), based on your actions, not personality, not looks. It is the actions they speak of which nullifies your Islam. If one professes the shahada but keeps cursing the prophet’s scw wife & his sahaba, doesn’t that take them out of the fold of Islam?

Keep’em under the dirin. Cool idea. Make sure your security system is up to date though. Do people stay with those banks? Corporate America teaches its employee that customers are always right. Reminds me of a job I used to have a long time ago. I was trained to avoid saying ‘no’ to the customer.

Kheyr & North, before we ask for compensation and go to the fiqh of the matter, may be should ask ourselves if we are given permission and the key to the property by the owner? I might be asked to give compensation to the owner since I occupied a house, which I certainly have no permission to reside. If permission is granted, the tenant had to ask again for permission to remodel or protect the house and at what cost. It’s very sticky area as Katrina said. One should have a contract either written or oral to get compensation. You don’t walk into a Star Bucks and ask for compensation for guarding their parking lot. No one has employed you to do the job.

lol@royal gene pool. Maba ogeyn inuu jiro gene laan dheere ah. Rawda, calm down sista. I think MMA pointed out that we should not rush to convict the guy of a pedophilia charges unless he’s found guilty by the court. Whether we like him locked behind bars or get acquitted, doesn’t really matter. What should matter to us is that both parties get fair trial [if they go to trail] and hope justice be served. I, for one never met Sangub on person and don’t know anything about the victim. I view them the same way, as Somalis & Muslims who are going through tough time.

No doubt Chappelle was certainly making a point in the skit, possibly all the ones you listed but I would think it’s merely an entertainment and not necessary a reflection of black perception in the justice system. American justice system is far from ideal so everyone is afraid his or her loved one could be charged and convicted of a crime they never committed. The reality is that the system can be manipulated to satisfy the end result of any case unless the defendant has the means to challenge the court. Unfortunately, minorities don’t have what it takes to get a fair trial; I mean one that does not rush to convict the poor. That could the ultimate message Dave was portraying. You could see some similarities between the two but they’re not comparable. Though I don’t know much about R. Kelly’s case but one can argue that his supporters probably felt a plot to set him up and a target of some sort, given the nature of show business. Please forgive me, as I know nothing about R. Kelly’s case. On the other hand, Sangub’s case involves no fame or money whatsoever. I see no reason why someone would build a rape case based on lies. It happens but I doubt if that’s the case. I was told there had been a Somali lady in Ohio who accused her husband of terrorism but authorities later found out it was out of jealousy. I personally think the qabiil thing is blown out of proportion. Qabiil does not feed your kids nor does it pay your mortgage. Somali in the diasporas know very well. How many attend tribal meeting on the weekends and extend a financial support to the warlords? I would assume it to be a small number. I’m getting the impression we’re making progress.

That was hilarious. “That piss was digital†“Listen lady, the burden of proof is on the state, on the state. You’ve got to prove to me beyond a reasonable doubt whether not this man is a pisser.â€

Can someone remind me of the topic?? Let's respect the brother who initiated the thread. Give it a rest guys. You don't seem to have the approach of Daaci to warn the danger of Rafidah and Shiica. Shiica have problems with Sunni Muslims including the Sahaba but I don’t think this page is for that discussion.

Sangub remains innocent till proven guilty in a court of law. Whether we support the accuser or the accused, we shouldn’t get too emotional but remain rational and just. Sangub will have his day in court and will be given a chance to do some explaining. The man appears to be a celebrity among Somali communities in the Twin Cities so he’s going to have supporters whom I suspect would support him on the basis of tribal affiliation. The case will continue to be controversial so don’t lose your cool. I do agree we need cultural change on certain issue but I don’t think our tradition is worthless. The clan system goes back centuries so it won’t go away overnight. Awareness and education are the means to get rid of this evil class system that betrays our core religious values. Sayid, Why bother participate this thread? Didn’t you call the case fiasco on the other thread a while ago? Your Islamic duty is to fully support Sangub and dismiss the alleged crime! Remember? Don’t be too judgmental brother and take things too personal. Originally posted by checkmate: Castro, now you get mad, when Cabdulaahi yusuf (yeey) got elected for presidency, there were several a huge parties that were held for his victory (the biggest one in the convention center, Minneapolis MN) where hundreds and thousands of people showed up for support. Few days later it was eid al-adha, and none of the Somali communities had enough funds to rent a hall to accommodate the prayer. Every one had to pray at their local mosque or pray with other communities. Not the whole story saaxiib. I’m not a fan of Yeey but I don’t see the point you’re making in telling half of a story.

Iran is taking the right action to safeguard the sanctity of Islam. Let’s hope other Muslim countries especially those with oil & gas, follow suit and consider similar measurements against those deem our religion inferior. Sayid, it may be obvious but I'm just gonna ask anyways. Do you belong to Takfiir group?

Baseball bat would do the trick. Give it a try.

Dateline NBC has conducted a sting operation on potential child molesters in South California that aired last Friday. This was the third hidden show but this time law enforcement waited outside to arrest these online predators. Over a three day period, more than fifty men showed up to engage sexual acts with minors, all arrested on the spot except one. Men of all ages & socioeconomic status including a Homeland Security Investigator, High School teacher and business, showed up and got arrested. Here’s a link of pictures of these men. Check out #26. Some of these men admit of seeing the previous shows of Dateline. Source: Dateline NBC Do you think Somali parents are aware of the danger of online chartrooms, if not monitored? Do Somali parents employ the necessity tools to safeguard their kids online? I hope every parent out there realizes the dangers of online and talks to their children about it. Good job Dateline. Such an excellent public service.

If not all, most of the Somali politicians are political puppets for Ethiopia, Arabs, or someone else. When you think of them, the Somali proverb, Rag hunguri buu isku raacay, comes to mind. It says a lot about their true character.

Violence is NOT the answer. Burning down buildings & chasing the innocent one isn’t the smartest thing to do and goes against Islamic values. These actions would simply make the stereotyping seem true. Muslims should deal this and similar volatile issues seriously by remaining true to their Islamic faith which condemns violence. My earlier post contained a typo error, had to edit.

Johnny, I have got an idea. Why don’t you print out that despicable image you posted and stand at the entrance of Vatican City while holding the image up in the air? I’m sure all of us would easily be convinced, if you come back unharmed & alive, that freedom of speech does work equally to everyone in Europe. Do it at your own risk. Waxaad ka heshid SOL & its members ha la qeybsan.

Johnny, It seems you have a change of heart. Was it yesterday or the day before when you posted those insulting cartoons here on SOL?

Don't forget Turkey is Nato member so the reaction won't be same had Pakistan or Iran made the movie. Turkey enjoys far better relationship with the US than any other country in that part of the world.

It may not be effective in Cairo or Amman but it would certainly be a good deterrence tool knowing it is in place and can be enforced in some parts of the Muslim world. I’m not suggesting to limit the options nor am I advocating for violence. I’m engaging the Muslim community & government at large to tackle the problem and receive the respect & recognition other religions given. We should challenge them by getting their court systems involved. What I don’t like is that relying & limiting only to boycotting which does not give any tangible result. We may have the wealth and the knowledge but the desire and drive is almost non-existence. I was watching the news last night and was surprised to know there’s a million little lawsuits filled against the publisher of James Frey, the controversial author of supposedly non-fiction book, Million Little Pieces. So go ahead and form a million Muslim plaintiffs and utilize their respective constitutional rights.

ISTANBUL, Turkey (AP) -- In the most expensive Turkish movie ever made, American soldiers in Iraq crash a wedding and pump a little boy full of lead in front of his mother. They kill dozens of innocent people with random machine-gun fire, shoot the groom in the head, and drag those left alive to Abu Ghraib prison -- where a Jewish doctor cuts out their organs, which he sells to rich people in New York, London and Tel Aviv. Muslim countries need to introduce a blasphemy law that prohibits all blasphemous publication written or spoken. Such law can be used to not only deter future violators of Islamic sanctity but also punish those newspapers. The law should call for the persecution and extradition of anyone who commits a deliberate act of blasphemous libel directly or indirectly, against Islam or its holy prophets be fined and imprisoned. The authors of publications, the newspapers, its correspondents, or its affiliations be banned to operate in Muslim countries until they comply with the law. I think the OIC (Organization of the Islamic Conference) can propose similar law, thus stopping these racist news outlets from insulting our religion. No one would have dared to insult our great prophet scw if such law were in place. The editors of the newspapers would not want to be summoned to appear in court and possibly jailed in a Muslim country, say 5 years later when vacationing in a Muslim country or those with extradition treaty. Many European countries have similar laws and as a matter fact, UK has one but it only applies to the Church of England, not all religions. The issue would not be a matter of censoring freedom of expression, rather breaking a law of another country and answering to their court system. I know it would be difficult to enforce and no doubt many Arab countries would be pressured, but who know what Iran or Malaysia would do? What do you think?

Kashanre, you’re the official translator of Somali proverbs. Start with these two. I’m sure you’ll polish them with a touch of humor. 1. Naag waa guri ama god ha kaga jirto. (or) Naag ha kaga jirto guri ama god. "Your woman should be in the house or in the grave." 2. Nin wax cunay xishood. "A man who has eaten something becomes shy." Can you top that! Source Idil, SOL is full of mines, ready to go off at any moment.

Your sense of comic is killing me sxb. Inanta ha ka waali nooh adi. Ma u dirtidoo Aftahan.com and she’ll come back with one or two gabay. In a way, you're right, that's the literal translation of the word. But Check out this site, it says aftahan means orator, whatever that is.
