^Yaa nabada loo xil saaray? Oh....I forgot. All eyes on Buulo-gaduud for now. On a serious note, Kismaayo is in bad shape. It seems as if those infamous isbaaro are reappearing in Kismaayo streets. Getting worst by the day. I phoned the other day and I was told people are risking their lives by going to the masjid for Cishaha. Certain area you lose your mobile and/or not be back to see your family. Ilaahaa u maqan.

^Does the likes of Geedi believe in Qur'anic verse or Islamic faith? Incompetency what they need to work on.

^My bad for killing the moment. Those men in the front raw and Sharboole should not part of that funeral. Marxuumka wuxuu ka dhintay wadanka.

A landmark moment which went of peacefully. Adan Adde international will be a symbol of remmeberence to our great leader for the future generations, insha Allah. Can't say the same about those stooges in the photo. They spoiled it.

Ethiopian protest leaders guilty A court in Ethiopia has found 38 senior opposition figures guilty of charges connected to mass protests after disputed elections two years ago. The charges ranged from armed rebellion to "outrage against the constitution". Sentencing is next month and they could face the death penalty, says the BBC's Elizabeth Blunt in Ethiopia. Hundreds of thousands took part in demonstrations complaining of fraud and vote-rigging by Prime Minister Meles Zenawi's government in the 2005 polls. The opposition leaders refuse to recognise the court and failed to present evidence in their defence. Heavy criticism Almost 200 people died in two waves of protests. The opposition Coalition for Unity and Democracy blamed the deaths on the security forces but Mr Meles accused the opposition of starting the violent protests. His government also points out that it introduced multi-party elections to Ethiopia after years of military rule. In the elections, the opposition made huge gains but says it was cheated out of victory. An independent inquiry carried out by an Ethiopian judge concluded that the police had used excessive force. He went on to accuse them of carrying out a massacre. The judge later fled Ethiopia, saying he had been put under pressure to change his findings and had received death threats. Two months ago, a judge threw out controversial charges of attempted genocide and treason against 111 people arrested after the election protests. The violence and the charges of election fraud have tarnished Mr Meles' image as a favourite of Western donors and one of a new wave of reforming African leaders. BBC

Muslim Americans say incidents like this are not so rare these days. Imani Jaafar-Mohammed and her husband Murad Mohammed are both American. They went to law school, got married, and bought their first house here. But when they moved into that house, they were confronted by a neighbor. The Story on NPR He started throwing pork in our back yard. He would come under the window and shout "terrorist," and shout at the window. And he specifically did it when he knew that I was home by myself. -Imani Jaafar-Mohammed Click here to listen

^Censorship badanaa. Caku yaa bog bilcaan ka taliso usoo martiyi jiray? While I understand the removal of the clip containing the shocking image which I think still is in SOL archive, I don't get why you took out the other clip with the discussion unless aad ayeeyo iska dhex aragtay? Let ayeeyo speak of her mind. It's her views, not yours. Maa caleesh! Ser Kill the messenger! Got serenity?

Here we go again. Another female circumcision thread. SOL has its fair share of these topics, one or two every year and almost all end up in some sort of xagxagasho. As I was zooming through youtube, I found a link about Amina & Ruqiya’s circumcision. I can only say they’re two very strong young girls to have endured such a horrible horrible operation in dirin in the middle of a dusty room in the hands of old-school ayeeyo with sakiin. Very scary. I thought at least the setting would have been a little different given today's technological advances and what Somalis have gone through over the years? Hal bacaad lagu lisay! Some of these videos are so disturbing, terrifying, shocking, never-racking, and blood-boiling that I jumped up and almost knocked my pc and spilled the coffee. I have yet to understand why someone would youtube such videos for the public to see. Since I didn't see the entirety of the clip, I'm not gonna post it. You may find it there. link removed Here's another shocking video I found in SOL archive. removed [ June 09, 2007, 09:06 AM: Message edited by: sheherazade ]

Miis is Arabic? Miis as Miisaan/Miqyaas? Miisaanka dhameystir. Or miis as table/desk? Maal = hanti or xoolo.

Ethiopian PM pays suprise visit to war-torn Mogadishu MOGADISHU (AFP) - Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi on Tuesday paid a surprise visit to Mogadishu, becoming the first foreign head of state to visit the lawless Somali capital in recent years, officials said. "Ethiopian premier Meles Zenawi has arrived in Mogadishu and is having talks with Somali top officials," Abdi Ali Godon, an Ethiopian government official, told AFP. Ethiopian troops helped the weak Somali government oust an Islamist movement -- that called for a holy war against Addis Ababa -- from the country's southern and central regions at the end of last year. They have been fighting an Islamist-led insurgency in recent months and are due to be replaced by a peacekeeping force that the African Union is struggling to gather together. Somalia has been without an effective government since the 1991 ouster of dictator Mohamed Siad Barre sparked a bloody power struggle that has defied numerous attempts to restore stability. Source

Identity: Who do you think you are? My overriding identity is Somali although I live in the United States. If you asked me what makes me who I am? I think it would take me a while to respond. Our identities are shaped by the world in which we live. Outsiders influence how we think and even look at ourselves. I think being Somali is contradictory because the Somali identity is mixed, and even, dare I say, confused. We are Africans... and yet we are also part of the Arab world. I belong to a powerful clan in Somalia, but I have no affinity for it. Our psyche, worldview and even who we are is mingled with what happens in the Arab world. Our Somali identity is real: our music, food and everything we do smells of a unique Africa. Beautiful and proud, Somalis remain Somali. Clan means so much to so many of my people. Yes, I belong to a clan, a powerful clan in Somalia, but I have no affinity for it. I choose to be Somali. But I am also more than Somali, I am the product of many oceans, always changing, revolving, learning and growing. Yet my Somali culture and history remains the tower that gives light to the oceans I swim in. I breathe like a Somali. My culture is not a fixed configuration but a constructive process. This is maybe a weakness on my part, but my identity and culture are always conditional to my environment and the centre of the process that I feel is never complete but always under construction. This is the Somali story: we are the product of many cultures, ideas and people. I am Somali. Source

Qooq as in fin-qooq?

^Me too. It's not only AP though. BBC and other major ones find a way to insert such comments in the button of almost all news articles about Somalia.

Another over-rated one is Jean-Claude Van Damme. Not as fake as those two losers above but I never liked his movies and that Cali governator too.

Oh posh sxb. Jimcaale as always is infatuated with my cyber character but I would hope you debate like a man and quit with the character assassinations. I do not know about Ceel or Caabudwaaq but I can honestly say Beled-Xaawo owes its peace and security indirectly to the Xabashi. It is fear of the Xabash base across the borderline that keeps the yey who want to cause insecurity apart from each other. I do realize we owes to Amxaaro for the peace and stability of [insert city name here] and the liberation of Kismaayo from the ruthless hands of our enemy who violated our families for protesting in public. My bad Horn if you get offended.

^Waryaara leave good Horn alone. He's just praising the good peacekeeping forces of the Ethiopians in Moqdisho, not Ceel or Caabud Waaq.

^Notes in Mugdi? Highly suspicious. Sue is the coolest Canadian on TV.

“Many Somali officials, civil society members and tribal elders asked that we should not leave Somalia while it is still vulnerable and we are determined to make sure that Islamists do not come back and traumatize the population” “We need to be certain that such Islamic elements will not disturb either the Somali government or the Somalia population,” he said. Determine and certain to mass murder whoever gets in the way including women & children to carry out Ethiopian's interest in the Horn.
