And not a moment too soon. Too bad WS let the immature and incoherent ramblings of a teenager get under her skin. In chess they call this losing a queen to a pawn.
I would like her back, I mean Wisdom-Seeker, and in fairness, Violet too.

  2. ^ Well that is true and these anti-midnimo northern cousins have allies in the south, namely, the proponents of 4.5 formula and clan superstitions, best allies they have in the south were those who supported their country's occupation, the massacre of somalis by the Xabashis, and the complete comeback of the warlords as presidents, ministers and financial moguls.

As long as the south is dominated by the clan mentality, unitarian somalis have no case. Once the south comes clean, the clan supremacy goes away, like in the ICU days, all clan fiefdoms will feel the earth beneath them shaking due to pressure from within without any somali from outside their regions coming to them to enfroce unity.

Hate to say it saxib, but as long as warlords and unfit men are given positions of responsibility in the south, Somalinimo is dead. And having said that, I despise anyone who thinks his clan can stand aside from the rest of somalis. Waan sugaayaa dadkaasoo kale when the day comes inwhich somalis with honour demand them to come to the table for accounting or face the consequences.

There are clanish delusions but not Somaliwayn falsehood. Think about it, one thinks their clan is greater than the rest of somalis and they are somehow unique when there is no difference to tell between them and the rest of farodheer. Alright, may be the brittish colonized us and others Italians is a reason for difference between somalis, but I am not convinced.

  4. ^ Here in the Us, Muslims rank at the top of the list of US residents who made it and earn high to medium income. Most middle easterners, west africans, africans in general who migrated here earn degrees and work hard. They are given plenty of opportunities to advance and educate themselves, or work two shifts if they want. And although racism is the foundation of the US, the laws protect, to a comfortable extent, the rights of minorities and people of different religious/racial backgrounds. It was good before 911 certainly for muslims, but US still fairs better than France. France lacks behind and Europe in general.

You connected the Bengalis and the North Africans through islam as if that common denominator is the raison detre of their poor performance. Where is the logic in that? Or I am wrong to extract such meaning from your comment?

There are forces that constrict one's choices too often saxib, in some societies, like in America, failure of a certain race is expected, Blacks. Poverty is given a black face, violence is given a black face, ignorance is given a black face, and while sizable blacks advance such images, majority are struggling to do good and live peacefully. Too much propaganda has left this community with mutually reinforcing dual consequence, One- pervasive belief that they are inherently inferior,Two- a crushing loss of confidence that they can do anything to change their lives for the better. I am sure the same case applies to North Africans and their existence might not be that different from the black americans who descended from slavery. May be islam, if they seek refuge in it, will give them what they have lost of identity and noble existence.

  5. ^ Will the blood A/Y shed be accounted for? Will he pay money to the victims who lost loved ones? if Not, Will the criminal be brought to justice for the crimes he committed? Will he be hanged? What is the use of a dialogue for the many who lost their parents, wives, kids and husbands while the murderer lives?

He may be a winner to some, but A/Y and other criminals are nothing but men with bloody hands who need to account for their criminality.

  6. How come I don't share this optimism and celebration?

I feel painful loss and humiliation, I am not happy with the fact that a warlord who should be hanged calls himself a somali president, I am not happy the fact that Xabashis for the first time in our history occupies Muqdisho, I am not happy the fact that evil has taken root in Muqdisho, I am not celebrating because of the deaths of so many innocent lives taken in cold blood, I am absolutely disenchanted with the somalis who celebrate for the victory of warlords and their Xabashi packers, somalis who cheered on when innocents slaughtered.

I am not happy at all.

  7. I love when an Ethiopian has better sense of justice than so called somalis. Even ethiopians didn't and still don't buy Melle Zenawi's line of of "ICU" aggression.

Zenawi, U.S. and meddling in Somali affairs

    By Tadesse Tadele Dec 10, 2006 —

In my recent commentary, Somalia, Not Our War, I have expressed my view opposing the current war waged by Meles Zenawi against the Somali people.

In that piece I tried to express how this war contradicts the Ethiopian culture of patriotism, self defense and patience. I indicated that, in our previous wars, we were always been invaded by foreign aggressors and the Ethiopian people stood in the sense of self defense. Therefore I have argued that this war against Somalia is not Ethiopian war and there should be no single Ethiopian life lost.

Few people who read my article accused me of supporting a “terrorist” group Union of Islamic Courts (ICU) that is showing aggression against Ethiopian sovereignty. In this I will try clarify how Zenawi is the aggressor and why ICU cannot be blamed for any wrong doing against Ethiopia. I would, further explain how Zenawi misinformed and misled the United State of America.

Zenawi’s involvement in Somali internal affairs goes back as far as his early years in power. Between 1992- 2000 , Zenawi’s military and security forces repetitively massed in Somalia in pursuit of members of the Ethiopian opposition forces who fled Ethiopia due to fear of prosecution. The security forces killed a number of ONLF and OLF supporters and sympathizers. During those oppressions, Zenawi’s forces received olive branch from some Somali warlords who collaborated in handing over and arresting Ethiopian refugees. This relationship grew in to the level where Ethiopian military directly involved in conflicts in support of pro Zanwi warlords, whom Abdulahi Yousuf is one.

Due to his direct involvement in Somali affairs, Zanawi obstructed the many Somali peace efforts which he thought would not give upper hand for his warlords. In 2004, when Abdullahi Yousuf finally became the visible leader of the proposed Transitional Federal Government (TFG), he gave green light. The TG which most Somali’ and the international community thought was bringing an end to the misery once more was dead on arrival due to its refusal to make the capital Mogadishu its seat. Instead the regimes decide to stay in Badao, the seat of Abdullahi Yusouf. This did not only lead the Somali people to mistrust the TG but also created an opportunity for ICU to emerge as united and strong national force for first time in 16 years.

I would not mind to say that ICU cannot be categorized as terrorist group at this time. The reason is that this group is the byproduct of the frustration of Somali people and resistant against abuse by warlords who murdered, raped and robed Somali civilians. With the coming of ICU, the residents of Mogadishu and its environs breathed peaceful air for first time. For first time in 15 years, Somali mothers sent their daughters to school with out fear of rape, harassment by local thugs. Somali children played on street without fear of been blown up by grenade. Major ports have been open, no more road blocks and taxis at every turn. In general the Somali people felt safer under the ICU leadership. In a very short period of time the ICU proved itself to the Somali people that it can bring security and stability, and therefore have been received by all sectors of Somali society so far.

Up to date the international communities haven’t seen a single terrorist attack against innocent foreign and Somali citizens. Then why is ICU accused of being a terrorist group by the US and Zanawi? The west particularly US have been following a misguided policy towards East African for decades thanks to their incompetent charge de affairs for Africa. Their mistake in miss handling and failing to understand the complexity of Somali politics will hunt them for decades to come.

After the failed intervention during 1993, the American policy makers clearly developed fear towards the Somali people. As result the US has followed the ‘proxy” approach in many cases to avoid direct engagement. As a result, the CIA sponsored “The Alliance for Restoration Peace and Counter-Terrorism”, a coalition of Mogadishu based warlords many of whom were directly involved in the 1993, and “Blackhawk” crisis. While sponsoring these groups, the US failed to consider how much public support these warlords have within their constituency let alone the general public. Sadly, President Bush who promised to democratize the world, turned blind eye on the human right abuse by the Somali warlords, and he rather preferred to finance their manslaughter project. This miscalculation in the side of US was exposed when the little known ICU swept out the warlords clearing up and putting Mogadishu under control of single leadership. The US policy once more is defeated and CIA is proved to be ill-informed by Zenawi.

Regarding why Zenawi accuses this group of being a terrorist, it will not surprise any Ethiopian who has observed the behaviors of Zenawi’s regime the EPRF. Zenawi’s minority government for years has been accusing those who opposed his failed policy. Let alone the armed groups such as EPPF, OLF and ONLY, Zenawi accused the CUD leadership, who won the 2006 election by landslide for plotting terrorism. As every body knows, CUD is peaceful political organization that never had an armed wing. So it should not be a surprise to hear Zenawi accusing ICU to exploit and gain the support of Islam phobic groups.

Is ICU a treat to the US & Ethiopia? The answer would depend very much on what Zenawi and the US will be doing to deal with the situation. If Zenawi continues his bullying behavior and the war breaks up, yes there will be a clear danger to Ethiopian national security as ICU could surely take a revenge action within our territory. Similarly if the US continues its financial support for Zenawi’s war and proceeds with the proposed UN draft to give allow foreign intervention, then ICU would be valuable to foreign influences that could be potential threat to the American interest in the region. Therefore Ethiopian military confrontation would only make Somalia a save heaven for terrorists and foreign elements.

The way forward is for Zenawi to immediately withdraw our troops from Somali territory. There is no justification for the Ethiopian people to loose a single soldier to protect a warlord who’s rejected by his own people. Yusouf and Zenawi are both unelected and unwanted by the people they try to govern. Therefore there should be no bloodshed between the people of Ethiopian and the people of Somalia. The two neighboring people need to stand hands in hands and say no to war mongers be it in the name of Ethiopia or Somalia.

The Americans should re-visit their policy towards the Horn of Africa. The only way to win the war on terror is to support the leaders who are being selected to lead the country. America must open up to the plight of the oppressed people of the region. It must listen to the call for freedom, peace, development, security and rule of law. It must stop funding state terrorism against the people. The long term national interest of United State can only be protected if and only if, the people who live in the horn region are satisfied by the US role in the region. Therefore the US should stop Zenawi from escalating the war in Somalia. It should also drop the draft which calls for the UN to lift the arms embargo on Somalia. Lifting the embargo would only lead to more blood shade and most probably could be exploited by terrorist groups which US is intended to fight.

In conclusion, the war declared on Somali in the name of protecting Ethiopian sovereignty is a recipe for all out regional war that would benefit only those war mongers not the people. If it continues inflaming the war, the US particularly will once more make a historical mistake. In 1993, the ill informed US intervention led to the failure of UN mission in Somalia and of course the death of thousands of Somali civilians. This one could excel that. Somali could be become Iraq, in worst case scenario the outcome could be more failed states. Is the international community ready to deal with that?? Still this is NOT Ethiopians war!!

  8. Bokero, You will need an independent somali leadership who respresents somali interests to achieve such grand success, and for somalis in particular to benefit from such open borders and trade relations. Stooges never think on a national scale or care about it. Thier efforts go into the survival of their unwanted leadership. They represent the master who isntalled them and gave them the power rather than the people they illegally rule. If Somalia was independent and ruled by leaders somalis elected, trade relations, deplomatic relations, open borders would all serve the interests of somalis in the horn as you pointed out wisely. We need and independent Somalia first to achieve this goal. Somalia is weaker today and can not benefit from trade relations. It hardly rules its sea ports.

I can't help myself but deal with contemptuous feeling I have developed for those somalis who fought for the TFG, excused for the TFG, supported them in words, and those who blamed other somalis in opposition to these criminals. As for who is responsible for the loss of our country, Warlords, A/Y being the biggest criminal somalis ever produced, and those who supported these criminals for clanish reasons(and they are too many to count) take a big share of the blame. The crime committed against our country and people will never be forgotten for generations to come, and the blame squarely falls on the warlords first, and secondly, on those groups of somalis who supported, out of clanish sentiments, out of selfish interets, the criminals who sold the country.

  10. Bro Che, they won't be left alone to meet the social needs, these warlords need to make a name for themselves by fighting our core values. We will wait and see, it won't take long before I am either proven wrong or right saxib. Haddii la is nabad gelinaayo waa fiicnaan leheed oo Warlordskana xukunkooda iyo tuuganimadooda ku ekaadaan, soomaalida wanaagsana dadka wax baraan oo ka dhigaan productive somalis.

    Geel-Jire

Athough they killed and abducted sheekhs here and there, the warlords conducted business in fear, masked and at night, or lay in wait for sheekhs to emerge from the mosques and shot them on the spot. Hadda laakiin, they are afraid of no one.

Mogadishu Mayor Vows to Hit Terrorists

    By SALAD DUHUL

The time of terrorists is over in Somalia's capital, the troubled city's new mayor said Wednesday.

Mohamed Dheere, who spent 16 years as a warlord struggling for power in this Horn of Africa nation, was named mayor this week. The move appeased his clan - and that may have as much to do with the calm of recent days as any victory over insurgents, who the government calls terrorists.

Clan rivalries and the insurgency by Islamic militants have fueled Mogadishu's recent bloodshed, which aid groups say killed 1,670 people between March 12 and April 26 and sent more than 340,000 of the city's 2 million residents fleeing for safety.

As a member of a powerful clan that had complained of being ignored by the interim government, Dheere will be able to call on fellow clansmen to pacify Mogadishu.

"We will crack down on terrorists and bandits in the capital," he told The Associated Press.

Dheere, who has long cooperated with the CIA in grabbing al-Qaida operatives in the capital, promised that the "time of terrorists is over," saying he would keep the city quiet by using 20 police vehicles to patrol the streets "day and night."

"These police forces will arrest every suspected terrorist or bandits," he said.

While his readiness to fight Islamic militants makes him appealing to the United States and neighboring Ethiopia, which support the acting Somali government, his use of clan warfare and indiscriminate violence while a warlord makes him unpopular with many Somalis.

Still, in a land with a dizzying array of clan alliances, Dheere's appointment by interim President Abdullahi Yusuf may be a big step in appeasing clan interests that have driven much of the fighting.

Elders of Dheere's ****** clan, speaking on condition of anonymity for fear of retribution, told AP recently that they did not necessarily support the Islamic extremists fighting the government. But unless Yusuf shared power, they said, there was no reason to expect them to exert their authority to quell the violence.

Yusuf seems to have listened. In recent days, Dheere and two other ****** members - all former warlords - have been listed for top posts.

Dheere's appointment satisfies a branch of the clan known as the Abgal. Abdi Qeybdiid, a member of the Habr Gedir branch, is the new deputy police chief, and Mohamed Qanyare Afrah of the Mursade branch is widely believed to be about to join Yusuf's Cabinet.

Not everyone is hopeful peace can be built by warlords like Dheere, who ran roughshod over this African nation of 8 million people after overthrowing dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991. The country split into rival fiefdoms and plunged into chaos.

Ted Dagne, an expert on Somalia at the Congressional Research Service, said the warlords' appointments "do not address the root causes of the problem facing Somalis."

A peace conference planned for this month is the best hope for that, he said.

"The key test is going to be not just the appointment of individuals to key positions, but what this reconciliation conference does for those who feel they've been sidelined by the Transitional Federal Government," he said. "That has to include the moderate elements of the Islamic Courts."

The Islamic militant group known as the Council of Islamic Courts seized power last year in Mogadishu and much of Somalia's south, bringing a semblance of order to the capital for the first time in years, in part by driving out the warlords' militias.

But the Islamists were ousted over the New Year by government and Ethiopian troops, with the help of U.S. special forces sent by Washington, which has long accused the Muslim hard-liners of having ties to al-Qaida and worries about Somalia becoming a haven for extremists.

The Somali government is now trying to reunite the capital, but is struggling to overcome an insurgency that has sparked some of the worst fighting in 15 years.

Yusuf was not available for comment Wednesday, and other top officials refused to discuss the issue.

Mogadishu resident Mohamed Mohamud Burale said that after all the fighting in his city, the government was wise to start trying to bridge clan lines.

"It could lead to peace," the 26-year-old said. "It may be that nobody would go against the government."

Maxamed Dheere Vows To Fight Terrorists

  12. Che, islam will never be dead but it is going to be hardly a factor in somali governance. It has no powerful allies who can influence decisions. The efforts of the good sheekhs are set back for decades now if not forever. We are faced with periods of islamic persecution and you will see what I mean soon. We missed our chance of islamic law ruling Somalia. Now both somalis and islam in somalia are victims of America's terror war which Ethiopia waged and for which the TFG was crowned and made powerful.

Now the warlords are busy securing their power and eliminating threats among themselves by naming each other for posts, talking to potential sources of trouble for them, but once they settle, if they settle, next project might be persecuting somalis with religious appearance and fighting the good fight of America. I hope I am proven wrong but that is my fear for now saxib.

  13. Somalis forget quick of their past if the future promises good. Knowing the warlords and their main objective in ruling the country, I am not certain the future holds much good for Somalis and Somalia. The saddest part is how religion will play no role and the religious might be oppressed. My fear is the warlords to start fighting religious symbols as they did when Xamar was devided into turfs they ruled, only now with more systematic approach and power behind them. Clans who feel oppressed can fight back on their own, but islam has no allies in Somalia.

Have a safe trip saxib. I can send a letter to the two senators of our state. I can even call their office as I did once before on behalf of a woman who wanted her husband in the US. They were helpful with that. It is important that those of us who can put a good word for our country to do so. Thanks for your efforts again.

  15. Dheere was chosen on the same criteria all other warlords were chosen and given a position, not a surprising development when the president happens to be another warlord. He fits right in.

As for Diiriye, I wanted to know if he will be evicted from the looted home in which many TFG supproters insisted he lived in, I didn't ask for anything else.
