Peace btw Puntland and 'Somaliland'? When did the war start? The truth is that the peoples of SS&H run themselves quite well and solve their own problems through traditional methods. These people live side by side for centuries and won't allow either Garowe or Hargeisa to start a war. I might be wrong but these regions(SS&H) are the only place in Somalia where the civil war didn't reach. Except maybe peaceful little Awdal BTW, Lander where in Ontario u livin'?

GSM improves in Somalia interWAVE has announced that Somalia's Nationlink Telecom, a GSM operator affiliated with the Somali Telecom Group, has ordered two additional WAVEXchange II (WXC II) high capacity GSM switches. Abdirizak Ido, president of Nationlink Telecom, commented, "Four years ago we successfully deployed our initial starter network in Somalia with interWAVE and we have been very pleased with the reliability and scalability of the products, as well as the support that interWAVE has provided in the intervening years. With the addition of the leading-edge WAVEXchange II technology, Nationlink will now transition into a nationwide full mobility GSM operator, and these two additional WXC II switches will allow us to meet the growing demand for cellular services in the Somali market. interWAVE has been an important technology partner in our on-going development. We look forward to the market opportunities that lie ahead with the knowledge that our technology needs can be met by interWAVE with the most comprehensive radio and switching portfolio in the most cost-effective manner in the industry." The relationship between Nationlink and interWAVE commenced four years ago, when Nationlink deployed a network in Somalia based on interWAVE's lower capacity GSM switch, the WAVEXchange (WXC). Nationlink's success in the southern regions of the country led to further orders from Galkom and STC, both sister companies of Nationlink in the Somali market through the Somali Telecom Group organization. Since then, interWAVE has shipped multiple expansion systems to these three operators totaling over 39 radio sites in 11 different cities in Somalia, including Mogadishu. Martin de la Serna, interWAVE's Managing Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa, stated, "We are very pleased to provide Nationlink with the scalable solutions, the cost efficiencies and the return on investment that significantly contribute to their ability to become the leading wireless telecommunications provider in Somalia. Our WXC II solution has already been deployed in several markets where it successfully assists our customers in growing their businesses. interWAVE is dedicated to providing leading-edge remote communications solutions that can bring people together to foster commerce and improve quality of life worldwide." interWAVE's high capacity GSM switch, the WAVEXchange II, is designed to support up to 100,000 active subscribers in a completely redundant mode. It will offer fully integrated capabilities and value-added services such as authentication center, prepaid server, and Short Message Services (SMS) server into one complete system. interWAVE's WXC II system is expected to maximize cost-effectiveness, ease of network management and efficiency in community network deployments Source: Cellular News, July 02, 03

In a report titled 'Is there Oil in Somalia?' it listed four major areas that may bear oil and natural gas that could yield significant commercial amounts. These zones are: . the Guban area of the north, particulary the new Sahel and Awdal regions. . the Banaadir region between Mogadishu-Afgooye and Baraawa, including Marka. . the Somali embayment of Lower Mudug and Galgaduud regions, including offshore Hobyo. . the Nugaal Valley between Qardho and Bandar Beila. _____________________________________________________________________ Chinese Team Stops Oil Work in Puntland UN Integrated Regional Information Network (Nairobi) April 10, 2001 Posted to the web April 10, 2001 A team of seven Chinese oil experts have been removed from their area of operations in the self-declared autonomous region of Puntland, northeastern Somalia, after local protests against their activities. The experts were prospecting for oil in the Nugal Region, southern Puntland, when local people objected to their presence, a local journalist told IRIN. The Chinese team had reportedly signed an agreement with the Puntland authorities, and had been working in the region for 10 days, said the source. People protested that the Chinese team were "conspiring to loot" local resources, the journalist said. They had started work in an old well, north of Garowe, capital of Puntland, he said. The protests began in Eyl District, north of Garowe. Locals have complained that prospecting for oil should be carefully controlled, to make sure that the region benefits. Local sources say the team of seven were taken back to Bosaso, the commercial capital of Puntland, on Monday.

AJT, If you think that's funny you should read the reports of the hargeysa government signing worthless contracts with non existant oil companies The last contract Oil Comapany's address was actually the house of an old indian family in london Talk about desperate. Government modo: 'We have a fake country why not sign fake contracts with fake companies' __________________________________________________________________________ http://www.somalilandtimes.net/Archive/49/4901.htm Fake Company Strikes Deal With Minerals Ministry Inverse International Doesn’t Exist As A Real Company London (SL Times): A company by the name of Inverse International which had concluded an oil exploration deal with Somaliland Ministry of Minerals and Water earlier this month, has turned out to be fake. "Inverse International" address has been traced to an apartment in Essex, England, dwelled by an Indian family. The company listed its executive officers as Magne Andreas Meir and Rakesh Rajan. It was registered in earlier this month as being located at 9 Clarendon Gardens, Ilford, Essex, IG1 3JN. Two persons purporting to represent Inverse International came to Hargeisa two weeks ago. They were welcomed by Somaliland’s Minister of Mineral Resources, M. A. Farah. The Minister then announced that an oil deal has been concluded. Later, he was lavish in his praise of the "company" as one with the necessary financial and technical capabilities to do the job - oil exploration and drilling - "The people who used to come here were mostly brokers and not real companies. This is a real company with extensive experience in Sudan, Saudi Arabia and Europe." It is not the first time that the Minister has been cheated by people pretending to represent an oil company. Out of 4 agreements he had signed since assuming office, none has been implemented. However, following revelations that Rakash Rajan has connections with Italian Mafia group engaged in toxic waste disposal, the faltering of Mr. Farah’s last deal could be a blessing from the sky. Rakash Rajan and a Somali holding an Italian passport by the name of Omer Osman are also listed among the directors of Bushido Security Services Ltd. The Somali lives in Italy but his address in Britain is 40 Montague Road Leytonstone, London E11 3EN. Bushido is registered as a toxic waste disposal company. There were reports in the recent past that Somalis recruited by the Italian Mafia have been involved in international operations for dumping nuclear waste along the coast of Somalia. Mr. Osman had reportedly introduced "Inverse" to Somaliland’s Minister of Minerals. It is not clear yet whether Osman is the same man charged with taking part in nuclear waste dumping operations.

AJT& Angel, There you guys go assuming everything Since when do you have to be a member to read posts left by those disgusting animals on SomaliNEt/SomalilandNet forums I know the internet is new to you guys, but COME ON  -
Originally posted by A.J. Tukachevsky: i condemned siyads actions against the people of puntland. No. You didn't... guraad claimed that somalilanders made fun of puntlanders being humiliated by siyad to which i anwered that he was wrong and that the somalilanders themselves were being tortures, raped and killed by siyad so therefore could not have been doing that right. You have your history mixed up. What happened in the two regions were seperated by almost a decade. So all other Somalis at that time were complacent/condoned the actions of the dictator. BTW, I noticed you reduced what happened in NE Somalia to mere "humiliated" while listed "Somalilanders were tortures, raped and killed"

Gediid, I think the number one goal of Somalis for Somalia is peace and stability. I myself have no doubt that politicians/elders/people in 'Somaliland' are waiting for the right time for reconciliation with their Eastern/Southern bro/sisters. I myself would like to see strong regional states and a weaker central government. This way local leaders are more accountable and regions are free of interference in their internal matters. This is how it should have been in 1960. This is obviously not possible at present for the reasons you pointed out. I also don't think a military solution will solve anything. Forming a united Federal Government btw all regions of Somalia should be done peacefully. Somalis have been through enough wars. P.S. Nice avatar. I think he is a very good statesman

A.J. Tukachevsky, Thanks for proving my point. People like you do not acknowledge what happened in NE Somalia let alone condem it  Your whole thought process is based around qabilist garbage. With you it's just Me, My clan, etc. Innocent people are innocent people. Clan affiliation changes nothing. You know so little about Somali history it's disgusting. Take a lesson from ppl like Lander & Gediid who are at least mature and knowledgeable. Gediid, First in my post I talked of more then just NE Somalia. I agree that all who commited crimes against Somalis should be punished. We all know that Allah will also judge us all by our words and actions. P.S. Do you not agree that if we had stood up to Siyaad Barre in 1997-78 in NE Somalia we might have stopped it from being repeated in NW Somalia and Mogadishu?

AYOUB_SHEIKH I think you have embarrased yourself enough today with your narrow mindedness and qabiilist rhetoric. You talk about Somalia or 'Somaliland' as if you've ever even been there or seen it...WHICH YOU HAVENT!!!! You belong on Somalinet forum or even SomalilandNET Forum lately... -
Gediid, Did you not post an article titled "Yet another President"? After which the usual anti-Somalia group(Lynx, Cilmi, etc) jumped on the chance to insult Somalis once again. Was it not Samigirl that posted the article "Somaliland vs. Somalia" or Lander who posted "Somaliland's incapability to gain recognition and its incompetent leadership" or A.J. Tukachevsky's "somaliland: getting safer everyday." But of course you ignore all those and more  The truth is most of 'Somaliland' articles are posted by you guys--we just add our opinions

Bach. If you think that's bad check out Clintons Cabinet!! Not to mention that the senate and house are strongly pro israel. Or that the Israeli lobby is the most powerful lobby group followed by the NRA. This was taken from Jewwatch.com JEWS IN CLINTON CABINET The following is a list (which doesn't include lower staff levels) of Jews in the Clinton adminstration. JEWISH PERSON, CABINET POSITION HELD Madeleine Albright, Secretary of State Robert Rubin, Secretary of Treasury William Cohen, Secretary of Defense Dan Glickman, Secretary of Agriculture George Tenet, CIA Chief Louis Freeh, FBI Chief Samuel Berger, Head National Security Council Evelyn Lieberman, Deputy Chief of Staff Stuart Eizenstat, Under Secy. of State Charlene Barshefsky, U.S. Trade Representative Susan Thomases, Aide to First Lady Joel Klein, Asst. Carey, CIA Executive Director Dr. Ruth David, CIA Deputy Dir--Science & Technology Here, we see 45 Jews have been appointed to the Cabinet of President Clinton. Because Jews are only 2% of the American population, in order to for non-Jews to have equity of representation in the cabinet, which is only fair, there would need to be 2,250 non-Jews appointed to cabinet positions since to achieve equity we would have to dvided 100 percent by 2 percent (representing the percent of Jews in America) then multiplied times the 45 Jewish Cabinet Position Members listed here to be equally represented in the Cabinet by their demographic numbers in our nation. The answer is that we would need 2,250 NEW cabinet positions in order to have fair representation of non-Jews therein. This is why the Clinton Government is a "minority government." It is made up exclusively of minorities instead of majority peoples. According to the United Nations, all nations shall be ruled by the majority of its citizens and not, as in South Africa, by a minority. http://www.jewwatch.com/jew-occupiedgovernments-usa-clinton.html illmatic Donald rumsfeld is a definite jew and neocon--ashcroft is probabley a jew.

Puntland was created to safeguard the peace and securit of NE Somalis. As you may know this region(specifically Mudug) was attacked by USC forces in 1991 in which hundreds of people were killed and many more injured/taken prisoner. The people in NES had to come together against invading forces and create a united front and repelled them. If they hadn't I'm sure NES would have suffered the same fate as Southern Somalia against Aidiid's USC in which they were invaded and occupied and the genocided(starvation) which was allowed to occur there by Aidiid. Gediid & A.Techkovsky, I condem what happened in NW Somalia in 1988(Half my family is from there) but why don't either of you condem what happened in NE Somalia in 1977-78 by Siyaad Barre? I'd also like to ask you why no one(incl.NW Somalis) came to the aid of NE Somalis? You stood by as Afweyn commited genocide, rape, poisoning of wells, killing of herds, etc. Maybe if we all had stood up to Barre then we could have stopped that being repeated in NW Somalia in '88 and Mogadishu area in 1990. You guys were not the first or last victims of Barre. P.S. Galkayo is a divided city because that is how the southern part wants it. It's based on the history of the region. But we have been living in peace for almost a decaded with each other.

'Somaliland:Getting safer everyday' is that the new national modo? Wallahi you gave me a good laugh tonight Thanks again. P.S. I hope you don't think NW Somalia has been peaceful for 12 years--it's actually since 1997. I have a suggestion for another modo 'Somaliland:We kill less foreigners per capita then the rest of Somalia' I know what your thinking--it's a bit long

Horn, I thought the same thing when I first saw your new avatar. Insha'Allah one day their occupation will be over Originally posted by mojam: I think in reality the region is split between punt, sland, and the republic, and ofcourse, there are some who want a seperate state. Puntland and the republic(Somalia?) are one and the same. I don't think any of them want a seperate state, they are Somali and believe in a strong & independent Federal Somali Republic. A.Tukachevsky, Col. Daahir Riyaale Kaahin only represents himself. Since when did he go from oppressor to champion of the oppressed? even in the local elcetions 55,000 people voted for udub (riyaale's party) I wouldn't put too much stake in the "elections" as UDUB seems to have made up numbers at whim P.S. Anyone who thinks SS&H receive anything from the Hargeysa government is sadly mistaken

Entre, Interesting topic. I think we should be proud of our nomad past. Most reports I have read on Somalia states that a majority(60%) are nomadic. I can understand where your coming from because this doesn't help Somalia become a developed nation. It must be hard to track down a nomad to pay his taxes But we have to remember that most of Somalia's GDP comes from exports of animals the middle east and the largest source of foreign currency. Remittences, crop production and fishing trail behind. P.S. What do you have against camels?!? Bad experience?

LST, Thanks for the pictures/info on the fundraisings for EAU. I like the fact that they had an ATM for debit/cc and payphone to call dahabshiil. Originally posted by A.Tukachevsky: first of all the article concerning mr wicksteads visit to hargeysa outlined that he was there becuase the british are going to assist the somaliland health and education ministries. however you failed to mention that but only mentioned the fact that mr wickstead ADVISED riyale that he must be democratic in his security policy. First, let me point out that there were THREE news articles on SomalilandTimes.net. TWO were relating to this POSTING. ONE was not. I posted the two articles that did. You make it sound as if I edited ONE article about Mr.Wickstead's visit to hargeysa  I didn't "mention" anything but only added to the discussion already underway. The next time there is a post about which governments are giving aid to which regions of Somalia I'll be sure to post that OTHER article about Mr. Wickstead's visit the new security organisation in somaliland should come very guikly to assist the somaliland police in getting rid of the people who hinder the progress of somaliland's citizens. those munafiqs will be punished for their ignorant deeds. Don't let your pride blind you Bro. An internal spy agency created by Mr. Riyaale(NSS) can only be bad. BTW, did you read the article it said that the parliament(constitution) called it illegal  But why would that matter to to Riyaale and company. "According to Somaliland's constitution, the country can only have three types of security forces: the Army, the Police and the Custodial Corps (prison guards). The security committees established by late president Egal had been declared illegal by the Somaliland House of Representatives. However, the so-called security committees are still operative throughout the regions of Somaliland." A quote comes to mind "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." Why was this so hard for Bush to remember Originally posted by Angel-Dust: The election that took place can put that of the US state to shame. God, you really do believe that don't you  I guess that's what happens when someone get's 100% of their information from pro'Somaliland' websites. Although I do agree with you that if the "Somaliland" government doesn't want to take part in the Peace Conference--then that's OK. Once the NE/Central/South Somalia has peaceful and a stable government I'm sure that the politicains in "Somaliland" will want to form a National Federal government. Nobody is saying to try to do that now. But that doesn't mean that we can't comment on developments in 'Somaliland' Or are you trying to practice UDUB-style censorship on SOL -

NSS-Based Security Organization in the Making? Hargeisa (SL Times) - Sources close to the government have told the Somaliland Times that president Dahir Rayale is considering the establishment of a giant security agency for domestic spying. The agency is expected to be headed by a former officer in the now defunct National Security Service (NSS), the source said. The new agency will also incorporate the Migration department and the CID, both of which currently come under the Ministry of the Interior, the source added. According to Somaliland's constitution, the country can only have three types of security forces: the Army, the Police and the Custodial Corps (prison guards). The security committees established by late president Egal had been declared illegal by the Somaliland House of Representatives. However, the so-called security committees are still operative throughout the regions of Somaliland. _______________________________________________________________________ Ambassador Wickstead Raises the Issue of Detainees With Rayale Hargeisa (SL Times) - The British Ambassador Mr. Myles Wickstead had raised the issue of people arrested by the Somaliland's security authorities in the aftermath of the April 14 presidential election. The people in question are about 10 - 12 SNM war veterans arrested by the authorities on May 19, 2003 in connection with alleged involvement in subversive activities against the state. Until now no formal charges have been brought by the government against the group. Mr. Wickstead said that he conveyed to President Dahir Rayale of the need to file charges against the detainees, if there were charges, and to bring them to court as soon as possible. The ambassador also emphasized that the government should investigate if there were cases where the security forces had taken actions beyond their power, following the presidential election, and to take the necessary measures accordingly. Mr. Wickstead indicated that his embassy will follow closely how these cases will be dealt with in the near future. http://www.somalilandtimes.net Editorial: Rayale’s Disdain For Due Process http://www.somalilandtimes.net/2003/74/7413.shtml -

How ironic...the Anti-Somalia camp are in the horrible position of defending the former NSS commander  Ayoubsheikh: You wish you had a police state in Somalia Ummm. No  A.Tukachevsky: if he was an american and declared that usa was not an independent state but should re-unite with the british would that not be agianst the usa constitution and therefore a crime. You obviously have not read the US Constitution. No, that would not be a crime or against the constitution. Although they would probably laugh at him and recommend a good mental institution
