  6. Iraqis head to Fallujah with supplies Thousands of Sunni, Shiites backed by cars unite in march to bring food, medical supplies to besieged Fallujah. BAGHDAD - Thousands of Sunni and Shiite Muslims backed by cars full of food and medical supplies headed on foot Thursday toward the town of Fallujah which has been besieged by US forces. The protesters answered a call by Muslim groups for a peaceful march to carry supplies to residents of the Sunni town where dozens of Iraqis have been killed since US marines launched an offensive Sunday to wipe out insurgents. "Our families in Fallujah, remember that our dead go to heaven and theirs to hell," read a banner held by the marchers who had gathered early Thursday at the Um al-Qora mosque in west Baghdad where people donated food, drinks and medicine. "No Sunnis, no Shiites, yes for Islamic unity. We are Sunni and Shiite brothers and will never sell our country," they chanted. http://www.middle-east-online.com/english/?id=9561
  7. Salam, Alhamdulillah the brothers of Iraq have joined together to fight these ifidels. Let us hope AlSistani lends his weight to this intifada as that would spell the end of the US occupation. Wasalaamu Calaikum Former Iraqi enemies unite to fight U.S. Inside the Sadr office building, which was defended by about 100 armed and 400 unarmed men and boys, was cordoned off by the U.S. military, three obviously Sunni clerics arrived with a letter for the leaders of the Mehdi Army. "We have come to see how our friends are doing," Sheikh Hudor al-Abari told United Press International. Abari said he was representing the tribal sheik of the Anbar Province of Iraq, which contains the Sunni towns of Fallujah and Ramadi. Both cities are currently the scene of fierce fighting between U.S. Marines and the Army of Mohammed, an umbrella organization responsible for most of the anti-coalition violence over the last year. Abari carried a letter from Sheikh Harrath Selman al-Tey, the leader of the largest Sunni tribe in Iraq and a man that holds massive sway over the Sunni triangle. "The letter (to Moqtada Sadr) declares that we are the Army of Mohammed and all of Ramadi and Fallujah (offer) our army and people and souls and hearts and weapons under your command," he told UPI. "There is no more Shiite and Sunni, only Muslims and now we will fight each other no more and together fight the same enemy." http://www.upi.com/view.cfm?StoryID=20040406-035654-8564r

  11. Salaam, While I feel no remorse for these corpses, if it against Islam, than I am against it. It is enough to kill them and send them home in bodybags. D-N-D, These are hardly 'innocent civilians' as they are ex-US military Pentagon 'security contractors'. Although, the death of a current US soldier/marine would be better and more affective in both the short and long term. Wasalaamu Calaikum

I guess these soldiers are born to scare kids! Praying in the middle of unmerciful atmosphere. Two "Israeli" soldiers torturing a young Palestinian boy Palestinian boy praying while observed by a group of "Israeli" soldiers Unarmed woman fighting with fully armed soldier!

  16. Salaam, I felt the need to post this after reading some responses to LSTs' article about Sheikh Yassin's death. It was shocking and disturbing for me to see some Somalis(Muslims), defending 'Israelis' and condemning their brothers who are fighting for their freedom(s), land, and people. It is very easy to forget what is happening on a daily basis to our brothers/sisters in occupied Palestine, while we are focused on our insignificant issues. We will never know what it is truly like but I hope this will show a glimpse. Also, these are the least graphic photos...there are many more that words can not describe... For all the pictures go to http://alsaher.com/boycott/crimesgallery.htm I should note many photos are very disturbing.... Wasalaamu Calaikum HUMILIATIONS.... An old Palestinian woman is humiliated by Jewish settlers. "Israeli" soldiers caught red handed peeing on Palestinians homes. Two "Israeli" soldiers stand guard next to detained Palestinian men "Israeli" soldiers practicing their day to day habit on unarmed civilians. 12-6-01: An "Israeli" soldier reinforces the siege 07-6-01: An "Israeli" soldier threatens a Palestinian and his son in Hebron. Dignity is my only weapon! 25-4-01: "Israeli" soldiers wrestle with a Palestinian boy during clashes in Hebron.
  17. The code, dubbed the ‘Twenty-two Commandments of Leadership’, The name is strange to say the least. But I agree with the premise of this document; what will come of it is debateable. Seeing as how African leaders hardly give a forethought to the UN/AU Charters' on democracy, good governance, human rights, etc. Africa seems to be in a unending cycle; unstable/unrepresentative governments--lack of investment--poverty--civil unrest(war)--unstable/unrepresentative governments. Wasalaamu Calaikum
  18. Winger, 1.You cant fully ban qaad bro, it just wont happen overnight. Why not? What is surpising is that no attempts are being made to even minimize consumption or availability of this drug. Why is it that men such as Mohamed Dheere are able to ban the wearing of hijabs in Lower Shebelle, while we can not ban something as harmful as qat? 2. Let the government take control of what comes in. Yes, this should already be the case. Sadly it is not. The road networks and air/seaports are loosely patroled(if at all). But what is the point of these 'regional governments'(PL/SL) or 'national goverment'(TNG), if not to improve the living conditions of Somalis and society as a whole? 3. Promote other activities for the ppl, employment or not.. Yes, I have heard that there is little to do for men(young or otherwise) during the afternoons/evenings periods. With school over and no employment, they pass the time with this drug. In North America they have setup "After-school programs" for 'At-Risk-Youth',--which mainly involves organized activities(example basketball) to keep the kids away from gangs, drugs, etc. I think a similar pilot program should be tried in Somalia; see the rusult(s); and if successful, implement it nation-wide. It is worth a try and it can not do any harm. Wasalaamu Calaikum
  19. Geel-Jire, I had to laugh at that as well. Before the question time had lapsed, a fistfight broke out between two members of the secessionist group, one from the opposition Kulmiye Party and another from governing Udub. The police had to be called in to restore order before the meeting adjourned. Salaam, LOL. Is this true? It brings to mind the (in)famous tussles at the Nairobi Peace Conference. Somalis: how different, yet how so alike.... Wasalaamu Calaikum
  20. Salaam, The amount spent on Qat is shocking and very disturbing. When a single market, in a single city, in a single day turns-over $50,000*--there is a serious problem. Now, multiply that by the 365 days per year and by the number of towns/cities in Somalia. That is, of course, assuming there is only one market in each city/town(highly unlikely). Imagine what this desperately needed money can go towards: hopitals, schools, food, development, entrepreneurship(new businesses), infrustructure, etc. This menace should be banned in Somalia; simultaneously another forms of employment must be found for the sellers, and a program should be developed for addicts. Does this seem like a realistic option? Can it be enforced upon a population accustomed to this habit? Will it just go underground and into the lucrative black market? I think we need to focus on changing the mentalities of Somalis and convincing them that it is haram, and the negatives far outweight the positive effects of Qaat. Somalis dont drink because it is banned in Somalia; rather they dont drink because they believe it to be haram and contrary to their faith. Wasalaamu Alaykum Note: This is a figure from the article rokko posted in the politics section.

    Somalia Hospital

Salaam, This seems to be the sad reality in Somalia; no matter how many telephone companies or hotels, basic services such as hospitals and specialists are in short supply(if at all available). rokko, Are you able to tape it and send it to me? I would, of course, reimburse you for the shipping.... Wasalaamu Alykum
  22. Salaam, I am at a lose for words with regards to this peace conference. It seems these idiotic warlords are taking us in circles and changing their minds depending on which side of the bed the wake up on! One can hardly blame them; they receive pampering, lodging, daily banquets, etc. If this conference does fail, then the only possible consideration should be a conference(or mini-conferences) within Somalia. This has worked in both the NW(1997) and NE(2003) Somalia and can/should seriously be considered in the central/south Somalia. Furthermore, increased control/power(s) should be given to religious groups, civil society and tradition leaders; rather than warlords, would-be warlords, and politicians. As for the 'council', there's already the SRRC, NSC, G8, and new National Organizing Council(Jowhar group). If these groups united, then 95% of the warlords will (hopefully) be at peace and stop fighting one-another. One person from each group(4) can chair this new 'council'; the TNG and other irrelevent groups should not be included(as the list would then grow immeasurably). While this 'purposal' by Qudhac is hardly palatable, it does seems to be a more realistic, and immediate solution to the issues/problems facing Somalia today. One must be able to crawl before attempting to walk or sprint. What we need is real and tangible peace/security in Somalia; before we can implement complex and debateable institutional as well as constitutional systems of governance. Wasalaamu Alykum Note: I fully support these current talks, however slow or flawed, and hope for an inclusive and representative government to be formed at its conclusion.
  23. Salaams, "Fabio Liverani"? Maybe you should ask this guy if he considers himself Somali or Muslim. This is what I fear if we all stay in these foreign lands for too long. We will lose our identity, culture, language, and most imporantly religion. Allah, save us from this fate. Ma'salaam
