  1. 6 candidates go to 2nd round of Somali presidential elections NAIROBI, Oct. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Six of the 26 candidates will vie for the second round of Somalia's presidential elections in Kenya's capital Nairobi on Sunday, after a first ballot failed to give any candidate the two-thirds majority required for outright victory, a Xinhua correspondent at the voting site said. Unofficial results show that Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed, 71, leader of the autonomous Somali region of Puntland, gained 80 votes in the first round of the elections, leaving the other 25 contestants far behind. Somali lawmakers started voting for president of the Horn of Africa country on Sunday. The new president is expected to appointa prime minister to form a government, mandated to lead Somalia through a five-year transitional period. A total of 28 contestants including a woman were competing for the presidency in what is widely seen as the culmination of a tortuous two-year peace process in Kenya, mediated by the regionalInter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD). However, two presidential aspirants withdrew from the contest at the last minute, leaving 26 candidates to take an oath binding them to abide by whatever results from the voting. According to election organizers, in the likely event of no candidate obtaining more than two-thirds of the ballot, the top six runners will go to a second round. If none of them gains a two-thirds majority, the two leading candidates will face off in a third round, on a simple majority basis. Since the breakdown of the Somali central government in 1991, conflict and famine have killed hundreds of thousands of people, plunging the country into anarchy. Under the auspices of IGAD, which groups Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Sudan, Uganda and Somalia, Somali National Reconciliation Conference began in October 2002 in Kenya. The presidential elections come after the election of the speaker of the transitional federal parliament of Somalia on Sept.15 and his two deputies on Sept. 22 and the inauguration of the transitional parliament on Aug. 29. 2. I must say I am abit surprised with the first round results. I did not think there would be such a large gap between Abdullahi Yusuf and Adullahi Addow. But there are now 79 odd parliamentarians who must reconsider their options and decide who of these top six to vote for. Any thoughts? What I wouldn't give to see Otali's reaction....

What ever happens lets support the new government. I agree on all points, well said.

  12. Nationalist, I think the opposit. As it currently stands there are six regions represented in the PL parliament. In the next election, ina Xaashi will carry votes from Sool, Cayn and Sanaag. Cadde will, in contrast, have his support in Bari and perhaps Nugaal. Reer Mudug, knowing they won't have the top position, will likely put their support behind Ina Xaashi due to the rivalry with reer Bari. IMHO.

First of all NOTHING I HAVE WRITTEN CONCERNS BARI-NOMAD, and as such I have nothing, absaloutely nothing to say to the hypocrite. Fair enough...I shall not expect further questions or comments directed towards me from you... Where is the hypocrite Bari-Nomad, I dare say not crying over Morgan again? Bari_Nomad if you are not being hypocritical, condemn Morgan for hiding there knowing full well that he was in the middle of war and by invading Dhoobley he would be bringing tragedy and destruction on to its inhabitants! Horn, Can you not stay consistant on a single thing? Your emotional outbursts would better suited elsewhere. May I suggest the Teen Section, "Mr" HornAfrique... Perhaps I should forgive him, as he seems upset at the truth of his hero, this warcriminal and gacan ku dhiigleh, Barre Adan 'Hiraale'. As for your view that I support Morgan, that is beyond my comprehension. We are not all of your mindset, thank Allah. Lakiin, somaalidu Waxaay yidhaadaan,"Doqon dib bay wax ka garataa." Be a good chap; do inform us know when the fog clears. Perhaps you can inform us why you continue to blindly support Barre Hiraale and the JVA?

Clearly we were all able to see through his charade and he fouling non but himself. I think because of HIS unwillingness to associate with voilence against innocents. No doubt he was in denial, which was only compounded by his usual lengthy bouts of delusion. And now that he saw it, he said the right thing. No, the right thing for him to do now would be to disassociate himself from these criminals by withdrawing his unflinching support for warlord Barre Hirraale(HA prefers the MP title), and his occupying forces. As for 'saying' the right thing, he can begin by acknowledging what the JVA/Yusuf Indha-Cadde militia's did in Dhoobley. However, if continues his support then we shall all know his standings....

Horn, So it has taken these distrubing photos for you to realize how destructive those who you support are. I can recollect you forcefully stating that "Barre Hiiraale is not in it, nor is Indha-cadde." That in fact the destruction of this entire town was perpetuated by "two cousins fighting over a young maiden". Wishful thinking if I have ever come across it. Indeed, when SNW posted news reports of these hineous acts by the JVA/Indha-Cadde, you said "Smith anybody can write what they want, this is the net. You are just repeating ku tidhi kuteen." HornAfrique: "Here I was worrying about what death I would hear about concerning my family[i.e. my clan] yet never imagining the death on the other[clan] side." Its clear to everyone on which side you stand; with the occupier against the occupied. While other Somalis were worried for their brothers in Dhoobley, Afmadow, Buula Xaaji, Xaalima Caddey, and Hoosingow you were busy defending the actions of Barre Hiraale and Yusuf Indha-Cadde. Sadly, Dhoobley is neither the first nor the last to fall victim to these two and their maurading militia-gangs. And your 'forced empathy' is neither needed nor wanted. Soomaalidu waxay ku maahmaahdaa, "Gardarraa ma guulaysto."

  18. Admin, Waan ku fahmey. I assure you, there is no need to close topics and delete posts. Hada Kabacdi, I will be very easy on HornAfrique. Okaay? And apologies for the bother we have become as of late.

On one sharp end, he wishes to gut the defenceless in a hyena-like fashion whilst on the other he bares a softy, bosomy posture alike of a gentle Alaskan bear only to suffocate the crowd with his humpty dumpy bear-hugging ménage à trois." - Samurai warrior How true your words have been shown to be

  21. Originally posted by HornAfrique: You are saying here and there how Morgan was "wrong" to attack Kismayo Incorrect. You are becoming quiet the liar... I stated Morgan was wrong to, a)leave the conference, b)bring troops into the Jubba's and raise tensions. It was Barre who attacked Morgan's troops. You yourself, HornAfrique, stated: "All I have to add is I'm glad and overjoyed that Hiiraale didn't let Morgan attack first as I would be in deep mourning as of the current." That does not seem like the words of a 'self-styled nationalist'. Rather that is someone who cheers at the prospect of innocent blood being spilt in Somalia. One who's only thought is of his clansmen coming out ahead. Glad to see the mask has been fully discarded... yet you say rer "Puntland" are oppressed in the Jubba. It seems the trash Otali was spewing actually convinced you...All of the local inhabitants of Jubba are oppressed by your warlord and his 'Isbaheysiga' of walaalaha Galgaduud. Shan't we say it's hypocritical to say we support the reason for fighting and the fight itself, but we don't support the fighter. Ala, beentaan xaguu ka keenay? Not only the fighter, but indeed the fight itself was wrong. Indeed, the real reer Jubba can free themselves by peaceful means once Somalia has been reborn. Who would you have wanted to be the leader of the attack in place of Morgan, Col. Garamgaram? Sow ninkaan maha ninkii aad sheegtay indaad qabsadeen? Miskiinkaan oo siyaasada ka baxay ee nairobi joogey. Magaciisa afkaaga ka saar. We weren't born yesterday and it's making you look like a fool. War ninkaan eeg. Saaxiib jooji hadalkaas...adiguna is-ceebinaysa I support fighting against agression and to defending your freedom and peace. Alas, if that were only the case. No dear friend, you support a mad man, a warlord, and a war criminal. As you know Bari, there was peace, before the man you privately support/publicly against embarked on a fruitless escapade. Subxaan Allah! I was under the imppression that only Allah(swa) knew what was in the hearts of men. Perhaps that "god-like"(your words) figure, warcriminal Barre Hiraale came to you and whispered it to you last night. I haven't the faintest. Your line of reasong seems to be, if I dont support your warlord, then I must be supporting the opposing one. A flawed logic, if I have ever come across one. Do not forget that I, like you, am related to both of these men. Yet I see these warlords for what they are, while you are blindly supporting the one more closely related to you. Very sad indeed. They neither need nor deserve our support.
  22. Horn, Alas, the times of stalling in the hopes of reprieve are at an end... Originally posted by Bari_Nomad: I believe that there should of at least been an attempt to resolve/mediate the situation. I'm confident the elders in the region would have been more then happy to accommodate these two individuals. If that had failed and Morgan had attacked Hiraale's militia then self defense may be employed. That of course, still does not excuse him for what occured in Dhoobley, but that is another debate altogether. That is my response, let others judge if I was "dodging", as you eluded to. Now would you be so kind as to answer mine: do you support this warlord, Barre Hiraale? If so, why? Simply state your conviction, worry not how others may interpret it...
