How about 'historical' in the sense that it is a part of our history. And I would have thought you'd be prouder; what with being a nationalist and all... I personally would not mind seeing implemented a Somali version of the Arabic alphabet. Similar to the type used by the Iranians and Pakistanis. I think this will help literacy as nearly all Somalis can read/write the Qur'an. But for the moment the best and most economical would be to stay with the Latin.

  3. Originally posted by HornAfrique: There are a few people that I found who know of the Osmaniya script, and non of them know how to write it. Well, if you know a few and I know a few and Faarax next door and Ghuuled across the street know a few...it starts to add up doesn't it? It's likely much higher than the figure stated by Nationalist.

"His government will be gender-sensitive and he appreciates the role played by Somali women in business activities, which have enhanced the economic recovery in family units. 'I will appoint women to the Cabinet. We will politically, socially and economically integrate women in our government,' the PM asserted emphatically." http://www.eastandard.net/hm_news/news.php?articleid=5698
  6. ^Yes, those are amazing photos. MMA, How is it that you have acquired such a large collection of photos from Somalia? J11, I would not mind receiving a copy of that report as well. Thanks. Ciid wanaagsan.
  7. Some somalis awake every morning hopeful of what foward strides their government has made since they last fell asleep. While others awake every morning dreading what foward strides their government has made since they last fell asleep. They go on to whipe the tears away and find ways to try to spin these positive steps. That is why I am all smiles....

This current assembly is made of politicians(previous, current and hopefuls), business people, women, civil society, and yes former warlords. The fact is that the government will be led by an educated individual, with clean hands, and no political baggage. This parliament is transitory; it is meant to unite the different factions/groups in the hope that our nation may move forward. It is far from perfect but it is, in my view, inclusive of all major political groups who have a stake in Somalia. President: A. 9. Is the prime minster, Dr. Geedi, not considered an intellectual?
  10. It was said as a joke; apologies to OG.
  11. Naayaa OG, that was way too harsh. Maybe he's trying to convince some others on this forum who are in denial...
  12. I think the Garaad is saying what the majority in the region believe, that is, they are Somalis and wish to stay part of Somalia. They do not want be attacked and forced into this union with Somaliland; but they will defend themselves and their homes from aggressors. And this is conflict is already getting uglier(propaganda wise) with uses of clan names rather than SL/PL, posting of photos of dead soldiers, parading prisoners, etc. Let us hope cooler heads prevail.

  14. ^Yes, but who is the 'we' and what 'views' is he referring to; further how does it relate in this context?

  16. Perhaps 'lively' was inaccurate...at least he was interesting. indhayaar afsomaali barratey That is how all the 'highbrow' speak.
  17. Very candid interview, rather long though. I found the reporter to be very entertaining and lively...love the english accent.
  18. I am in agreement with the president; if we work hard, together we can bring security and stability to our nation within a years time. In fact, most of our nation today(90%) is relatively peaceful with only minor upsurges now and then(Adhi caddey and areas of the capital come to mind). We have come a long way since 1991, and today one is more likely to see two corporations clashing than clans or warlords. The only problem we face today is political, keeping the unity we have in Mbagathi when we return to Somalia; all else will fall into place. If we do so, I would be so bold as to say 6-12 months... All those from Mogadish, I suggest you book your flights now...

  20. Since she is from Dhahar(Sanaag), an area supposedly 'part' of Somaliland, why would they be doing this to one of their 'citizens'? This just reinforces the views of those in the region who are opposed to Somaliland.
  21. Why hope for continued fighting? I doubt you would be cheering this if it were localized in Burco or Hargeisa.
  22. Somali president appoints Ghedi as PM www.chinaview.cn 2004-11-04 03:29:08 NAIROBI, Nov. 3 (Xinhua)net -- Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed took a bold step in the Somali peace process here on Wednesday by appointing the 51 year-old vet Ali Mohammed Ghedi as his prime minister and asked him to form the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia in one month. "After exhaustive considerations and reading all the CVs of all leading contenders, I nominated Prof. Ali Mohammed Ghedi as prime minister," Yusuf told a news conference in Kenya's capital Nairobi. The 51 year-old Ghedi, an animal doctor, is an active politician and member of the powerful ****** clan, one of the four major clans in Somalia. "I wish to ask him to form a government of his choice within the time allocated in the constitution which is one month," Yusuf said. Analysts here say the appointment is likely to be a delicate balancing act of clan and regional interests in the Horn of African country. However, the newly appointed Somali prime minister pledged reconciliation during the news conference. "I have accepted my appointment and pledge to form a governmentof reconciliation and reconstruction which will restore good relations in the region and I urge my fellow Somalis to support meas I embark on the task of building Somalia," Ghedi said. He said within 30 days, he would form a new government which hehopes would cover the entire country. "In that period, I hope to engage in full consultations with the president, speakers, members of parliament and all the stakeholders," he said. Meanwhile, he said the main challenge facing his administrationwould be to build the public service and mechanism for public policy in the country. Somalia has been without an effective government since 1991 when the regime of Muhammad Siad Barre was toppled, following which the country plunged into anarchy and factional violence. Conflict and famine have killed hundreds of thousands of people since then. Under the auspices of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development, which groups Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Sudan, Uganda and Somalia, Somali National Reconciliation Conference began in October 2002 in the western Kenyan town of Eldoret, and was moved to Nairobi in February 2003. As a result of the conference, Somali Transitional President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed was inaugurated on Oct. 14 in Nairobi. End item
