  1. MMA ...who is throwing Qabiil names from left to right now? man! practice what you preach- thanks for the edit but edit thyself before you do others! I see Qabiil names!
  2. he mentioned about Hargeysa ..I am not sure about Balidogle. But it was really full filing to be there and see many people who I thought were pro-occupation. But I think some people were there for maybe spying for Abdullahi Yusuf cos I saw this guy who supports the warlord-cum-ailing-liverless president but maybe he changed his views or maybe deep down it bugs him to see the occupation of his country by the Abyssinian enemy. I hope they will keep organizing as long as they don't keep asking for funds, I will go there. I can pay one or two times but not all the time. They said the money was for the displaced , the wounded and the people who are dealing with famines and droughts. Sometimes you wanna know if the money goes to humanitarian cause or not.
  3. He is another "Somali" bigot! what is even worse is he sounds like a supremacist...who, as it seems to me, after reading this the favorable and promotional interview, (he) just embraced that awful "Us Vs Them" doctrine. His arguments hold no water whatsoever. Somalis have many clans, some number more than others and during the civil war and now, major Somali clans in terms of number have more weapons and power than the minority clans. Abuses and injustices were done to whole a lot of people and minor clans are not the sole bearers of injuries and victims of the civil war. Everyone suffered in Somalia. Actually the so-called major clans suffered the most. This guy is the product of the civil war. Everyone has grievances and see their own suffering and not the totality of the situation in Somalia . My other-mom ( father's second wife ) is nominally from his same family (**** *****) and thus half of my own brothers and sisters are half-****. They will outrightly repudiate this fellow. Banaadiris and Bantus are just as Somalis as those clans he mentioned..nothing less...nothing more! He said ***** clans as being non-ethnically Somali? He is dead wrong on that. They are the Reer Weyn and scientists have proven that Somalis are of the Omo and Tana rivers and not from Arabia. The original pro-genitors of the Somalis are called Reer-Wein, thus May and ***** are the original people. He said the names of some cities are of Persian and Arabian origin. Many Somali cities have names that are Oromo origins. There is no confusion of who we are and history cannot be re-written by some grieve-ridden bigot. But I applaud him for doing the research on the culture and civilization of Somali-Banaadiri community. I also applaud him for creating this controversy. I think it will create a conversation and maybe a strong cohesion and understanding of our commonalities. [ July 07, 2008, 01:11 AM: Message edited by: Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar ]
  4. Yeah the guy mentioned a lot of towns...he wasn't like Jubba singing Xamar Daawo Dacallada and I remembered these cities or took them as examples. See, the insurgents..sorry, our freedom fighters are from all over the place... each battalion has its territory to fight...the central regions of Hiiraan, Galgaduud, and south western region of Bakool work together sometimes as we are told. Jubba, Gedo is Hassan Turki territory. but the freedom fighters who are so determined to oust the Ethiopian occupation troops are from all over Somalia and that was what the guy from Guriceel was saying. I was a listener and the place was jammed. That itself was really an eye-opener for me and at least some of my friends.
  5. Brother Ceyroow; Forums are free and banning is bad. I don't subscribe to these extreme absolutism ...of my way or the highway ..or you are either with us or with the enemy...let us leave that to Bush and his buddy Bin-Laden. Everyone should be free to think how they want, to believe what they want. That is the beauty of freedom and diversity. people shouldn't be banned because they think differently. As for Koora, without personally attacking him, I think he is part of statistics and manifestation of our divisive clannish primitivism. He supports a warlord or a petty politician from his clan enclave. the clan allegiance is more important to a lot of people than say... Islam, or Somalia. Some Somalis worship Qabiil as deity and practice Qabyaalad as a religion. Some are now waking up to the destructive consequences of this blind adherence to these backward tribal practices after maybe doing some needed soul searching or just using their God-given intellectual endowments and faculties. I hope a lot of us do the same and use our brain cells than our instinctive emotions. As for the use of technology, Americans use laser-guided missiles to kill, maim and obliterate innocent and helpless mothers and children in many parts of the world, namely Iraq, Afghanistan and even in Somalia, then call it collateral damage as their lives meant nothing or they were not as human enough as the average American Joe or Jane. That to me is an extremely and gravely more dangerous act to carry genocidal government-sponsored terrorism on poor people...taking advantage of modern technology. Bashing Islam is the western News media outlets' job ... and the subliminal messages from these sources sometimes effect those who religiously consume it and refer to it as they were pure and absolute, fair and balanced fact!!
  6. Man he mentioned so many Somali cities that i forget like Waajid, Xamar and so on. But it was my first time to hear some one from that part of Somalia as a first source. Usually I meet these bozos who exaggerate and add their flavor and then promote it as the right version. There is this factory worker in our building who daily tell me stuff like he was in Mogadishu and was a present witness to some fighting. This was totally different. I also had my own reservations about the whole conference call. They do wire-tap all incoming and outgoing phone communications in Somalia through some base in Djibouti. I heard a lot of Somalis in Virginia and D.C. area were contracted by L3 to spy on Somalis in the Horn.
  7. Dig wells, make sure people have an access to clean water, build clinics for mothers and children, think out of the box and plant trees, erect solar panels and wind turbines. These villas you see are owned by corrupt government officials who steal people's wealth and if you look closely, they are not more than dozen brick-villas in the middle of such devastating poverty shanty towns and garbage-filled alleyways. if you think that is progress, may God help us. Peace is progress, self reliance is progress, reversing the brain drain is progress, sustainable development is progress, educating the young is progress, primary schools are progress, libraries and resource centers, capacity building are progress, getting rid of corruption and bad governance are progress. So focus on that and let us not boast on limited Land Cruisers and brick-Villas. We are all familiar with that. Don't let Somalia always be anarchic land and basket case that depend on donor's mercy. People wake up!
  8. I just had an opportunity today to be part of a conference call to Guriceel by group of Somalis from all walks of life and all Somali regions: Students, elders, sisters, religious men and women, professionals, refugees, business owners, you name it. It was open for all event organized by some Diaspora group. We listened to first source reports detailing of how the occupation troops came to Guriceel, where they camped, what was their intention, why they came and what was their plan; how they wanted to bribe and threat the elders of the town, how the elders shunned and how people were displaced, the fighting strategy, how they were not allowed to even have a rest, how the fighting started and continued till the occupiers couldn't take the heavy and coordinated assaults of the Somali fighters and how at the end they just backed and fled. The source told us a lot of stuff but two stood out and impressed me the most. First Somalis are technologically savvy and were monitoring every Ethiopian movement through cell-phones, through text-messaging and guess what? through MSN messanger! There must be an internet connection in Beledweyne, Guriceel and so on. Second, he said there were many Somali fighters from all over the regions, as far as Burco, Las Caanood, Garoowe, Abduwaaq, Cadaado and Ceelbuur. I think someone made a record of the whole tele-conference and hopefully they will broadcast on some Somali site, even though there were people against that idea. We will see since I was not part of the decision-makers but a mere participant. The struggle continues and victory is near!
  9. Thanks Paragon; my laptop;s keyboard is so small - sagaalaadka is the 9th , that was miss-typo. Ayways I tried.

  15. welcome cinnamon (hale..kan shaahs lagu darsado)...And the person who asked your gender could have little bit used logic: Would a dude call himself a cinnamon? unless his feminine side is that dominant....and if that was the case..then the Labeebshe label would have been more opportune... As for the age-ism discrimination, this is an egalitarian forum ...that is true to the real essence of our old-age pastoral democracy and egalitarian nomadic society...hence the name of the forum ...camel milk threads. When gathering was adjourned to discuss communal matters and affairs, none was excluded and camel mil was served to the participants. So welcome and hoo haruub caano geel ku soo dhowoow!!
  16. An escaped lie does not reach the truth = been fakatay run ma gaarto?
  17. Every camel was once upon time two years old. = Geel laba jir soo mar!! I challenge you SOLers to come up with the original Somali maahmaah of these above English translations. Warning: some of these translations are out of synch with the original Somali saying/adage.
  18. Third party of the lullaby is not that difficult to decipher... but before I translate, we need to understand three things (concepts) here: 1:Dhibooy - u all know dhib is trouble ..so dhibooy is the one (baby-girl) that is causing trouble ( to her mom) -- 2:dhiga xir - this is part of the Somali hut architecture ( how Aqal Soomaaliga loo dhiso ) the other part is Udbo - Dhigaha are the latitudinal rows and udbaha are the columns (pillars) The two need to be chained/tied with strings and this is the most tedious part of building a hut. So when a girl marries, the womenfolk of the family has to build her a hut...( it is always the women who do most of the work in Somalia... men all they do is fight and complicate stuff) Dhibaad is nutritious food like subag, oodkac and things of that nature - When a daughters marry and get pregnant ( weak), they come back to ther mother to be taken care and looked after during pregnancy Dhiboya dhiboy dhibooyaa - O! You trouble maker (3X) Dhiboy gabar dooni maayo - A troublesome girl, I don't want! Dhibteeda iyo dhiga xirkeedaa - her burden and knotting (her) hut Dhibaad soo doonadkeedaa - her coming back for nutrition Ninkii ma dharaaranteedaa ...something is wrong with this verse ...needs to be corrected dharaar is a day.. nin is a man ... Is she saying then after the dhibaad she longs for her man? after the mom spent all of that effort to look after her pregnant daughter , feeding her nutritious food to make her stronger, then the daughter desires to go back to her husband and can't wait and talks he she misses him? It sounds like that!! See folks, all you need to do is dissect the verses, understand the concepts behind each word, context it is used, the word derivations, the nomadic ways of thinking, parables, similes and then it is all easy to decipher it. The only time I left for baadiye... we went to Yaaq Bari weyne (now leego outside ofdaafeed/ *********) or something like that and that is a farming community. I am pure ciyaal xamar but I read and enjoy Somali & English poetry. Ours is way more advanced than others and honestly English and all these Euro-centric poetry is in its primitive stages compared to ours..that is why we are a nation of poets and that is why every 3 Somalis one can easily compose some sort of poetry and prose.
  19. And second verse ( the easy part) ..she is talking to the baby ... the baby cried and and she(mom) is telling the baby how s/he carried Sidii mid an aabbe korinnin ..like a one that wasn't brought up (reared) by a father ... basically a child without a father figure! Ayeeyoyin isu dhiibin - that grandmothers didn't hand (him/her) to each other ...ayeeyooyinkiisa koolkoolin... Abaartii subag la siinin in the drought season, ghee (butter) wasn't given to (fed to) Ameer dhalay loo lisaynin - a lactating she-goat won't be milked for Abaydimiyooy la oranin - barbaariyooy la dhihin - (let) look after (him/her) said no one... Sidiisii baad u oyday - like (that) you cried!
  20. at the end of each verse ..you have wa this is a measured rhyming style .... in Somali poetry....

Geelka ninka ah hal naas aa qabyaa usna markki aan arkaayay waa ka kaadi haayay!!! So I am gonna be that Banaadir elder and try to enlighten you the uninitiated ones (in the Somali traditions ) The first part (verses) is a exaltation (praise) while the second is denigration ( belittling) and third party is a statement of objection ( what she does't want .... somewhat sexist...since ours(society & culture ) is a based and dominated by patriarchy and male chauvinism. The lullaby has some pre-Islamic and post-Islamic references. Samoow has its root in the word samo - which is wanaag = goodness like ****** (the father of goodness, warsame ( the one with the goodness) So the reciter ( probably a mother ) is addressing this lullaby to SAME (some dude or maybe the child himself) ... and telling him about the child Samoow samoow samoow ....waa O! same, O! same, O same, .. (this) is maybe she is talking to the baby... remember this is a lullaby for the child ... Sarar iyo legoow waa _ these are best parts (cuts) of meat Somali nomads love are the rib and the Shank ... So she ( the mother reciting this lullaby) is comparing the child to the best parts.,, just a parable ...analogy.. Sitaac iyo wagaradowa Sitaac is an expensive piece of cloth made of silk as of wagar : Wagar is a big shady tree that grows in a barren desert. it is like a palm tree in an oasis... so when Somali nomads who travel miles and miles to fetch water in barren wasteland see the wagar tree unexpectedly, they usually react with awe and say, wagareey waa la yaab! - even now in some parts of Somalia (in the north) they use it as an exclamation ... Wagar! ..in popular song , you may have heard ... wagareey waa la yaab jaceeyl waalan waa kan! ... Nursing mothers in Somalia during the 40 days of umal-baxa, they carry either a piece of metal (Bir) in the cities or a short stick made of the WAGAR tree ( in rural) areas. by the way, the ancient pharaohs (originally from PUNT) carried the same Wagar stick to the battlefields to ensure victory against the enemy.... But back to the context it was used here...so she is referring to the silk clothes donned to the child and the good bearing omen stick she is carrying...because of the (greatness and beauty) of the child! Samoolaadkii gu’goowa - the prosperity of the raining season of GU` The phrase - samoolaadkii consists of two words - samo + ool meaning laying (situating in goodness ) Siyaado an baaqanowa a growth that is reliable Sagaalaadka arafow the 8th day of Arafah (dhul-Hajj) - I hope you all know the importance of this day in the Islamic calendar. Sidaan doonahayayoowa (he) is just the way I wanted (him) to be in essence the mother is praising her child and comparing him to the best part of the meat, talks about the silk she donned on the child, the evil-eye protection stick she carrying (for his sake) to ward of (envious/jealous)curse (of others), she is comparing him to an everlasting prosperous season, to the blessed day of Arafa ( the day satan was defeated and Adam and Eve met of Arafa..or something like that)..she is saying this child is what I asked for (god ) to bless me with.... the second part ...I will do the explanation (TAFSIIR) in the next lesson (Cashar)
  22. man! this guy got talent! First I heard him on MIA Hussle Hussle - then i found this One Day I went toLidl
  23. Maryan run, you are blessed and a lot of people wish they were in your position! Yours is a very inspirational! ilaah ha kuu saa'idiyo! There are many thing that hold marriages togather and kids are part of those..but let me tell you one thing about the favoritism given to sons over daughters in our culture... my Habaryar had 4 daughters in a row and people pressured her husband to marry another wife that would give him sons and he did and had two other daughters! But now daughters are more productive, supportive, accomplishing than sons. Soomaaliya iyo Afrika waxaa looga duceeystaa ilaahow gabar dibadda ii geey! waayoo gabdhihii badankood wax beey barteen, waxeey noqdeen nurses, pharmacists, lab technologists....mana hilmaamaan eheladoodii kana naxariis badan wiilasha. wiilashii waa mid taxi waday, truck fuulay, qaad cuna, xaas noqday oo ilmahiisa ...iyo xaaskiisa ka badan waayay nolosha qurbaha oo adag darteed....iskool badankood waa ka habsaameeyn ama waa iskaaga tageen... markaa lacag badan ma sameeyaan oo garab rarato meesha gabdhuhu professionals noqdeen lacag fiican sameeya ....at least in North America
  24. But again Duke ...do you have a "cause" other than "Yeey"? aan u soo duceeyno Duke in Allah Ookiyaalahan qabiil ee loo geliyay ka siibo. I hope one day our prayers would be accepted by the Almighty and our brother Duke's seeing, hearing, reasoning and judgment would be somewhat sound and slightly based on intellectual exercise and objectivity rather than this self-imposed biased and twisted clannish lenses! That is not a lot to ask, so join me to pray for the brother! We seriously need to pray for the bro and those like him in the Solers community,. His is beyond being chronic clan malady! we gotta have a quick intervention!!
  25. This is twisted and outright misquotations of the legend. I did listen to the interview and he didn't say Boosaaso was under occupation. Someone who called from hargeisa asked him why he didn't come to Hargeisa when he was in Djibouti and Hassan said he will visit Hargeisa next year. Then another caller asked him when he is coming to Mogadishu and he said when the Ethiopian troops leave. Someone from Gaalkacyo asked the same question and Hassan repeated that he will visit Somalia in general when the Ethiopian troops leave. That was what he said. Nothing more , nothing less! AND THAT, TO THE EARS OF A LOT OF SOMALIS WHO ARE STILL SADDENED BY THE MISERY OF STATE COLLAPSE, WARLORDISM, FRATRICIDE, AND ETHIOPIAN OCCUPATION WAS SYMBOLIC MUSIC! Hassan Aden Samatar ... is a singer... HE is neither a politician, nor intellectual , nor a leader. He is an entertainer and a Somali legend and loves his Somali people and Somali nation (NATION....regardless of fiefdoms).
