xiinfaniin;778318 wrote: ^^You are so incoherent, your logic so pathetic... Somaliland is part of Somalia notwithstanding the delusion of thinking itself as a sovereign state. The fact that a lot of young people believe the phantom state and are willing to die for is a sad story indeed. UPDATE, What happened Saturday in Lasanod is a tragedy, and news reached near and far that a clannish militia encouraged by the clannish protests in Hargeysa and Burco are flexing their muscles on the unarmed women, children and elderly men in Lasanod. This is different, for the community is more united now than ever and are willing to take tangible steps to reverse the gains of this mad group. People of Lasanod, your cries are heard. Professor, please include in your prayers that our delusional brothers come to their sense and stop driving their future off the separatist cliff. What is incoherent and rather pathetic is when a grown man and self-acclaimed Somali patriot advocates for the disunity of Somaliland communities, prematurely trying to create martyrs and riling up people along tribal lines, while at the same time clinging on to the idea that political unity among all Somalis is the ONLY way forward. A real nationalist stays well connected to the greater ideals he/she claims to espouse and doesn’t contradict himself/herself with every bit of news coming out of ‘waxa-la-yidhii.com’. This hypocrisy that is unfortunately far too common in our Somali community is a sad state of affairs indeed.

Somalia;776428 wrote: I think that's our future. As for this video, if you look at 29:00, he mentions the consequences of the war in Hargeisa where 6 officials were gunned down and other retributions towards military officials. He was told to give up his best lieutenants and was part of the reason for the coup attempt of 1978. Also this is the place he is talking about 70 km from Addis Ababa, Mojo. Are you proud of this weasel? so what if he was 70 km from Addis, he was responsible for having Ethiopians invade Somalia's capital (Mogadishu) for the first time in their history. There were reports he was high on power and was getting slapped around by some general Gebre in his own capital too! Do you not feel any shame or do you have no pride?

Che -Guevara;776075 wrote: Lander......you can not be serious? I guess your struggle and aspirations are holier than everyone else's. I'm not sure what your alluding to as far as struggle and aspirations but let me say that what I hope for Somaliland and for those who live in these disputed areas is to maintain the peace we have earned in the past 20 some odd years. For what its worth I don't agree with moves such as the capture of Buhoodle by the SL gov nor do I think attacking and kidnaping Somaliland officials in broad daylight on a road to Taleex is the way forward for our people. Ideally, I would like to see any 'mamul' who wants to do well for said areas be able to compete for influence by providing projects that benefit those communities such as hospitals, school, roads etc... That is Somaliland, Puntland, the new Khatumo or any other well to do group would compete for this communities support with such actions. But we live in a less than ideal world don't we? Those are my opinions and as your fully aware Somalilanders have many diverging opinions. But as far as these Khatumo parties go, we all know this gathering of people in Toronto and elsewhere that are to raise funds are not looking to be building any new roads but engaging in armed conflict. They are fully aware and probably hoping their actions will put them at logger heads with Somaliland. Rallying the tribe and collecting money for weapons is the purpose of these parties so people should being coy about it.
-
Some innocent soul tried to bambozzle me into going to this event in T.O. without knowing herself what exactly the party was for. I'm sure some unsuspecting people will be convinced to go without knowing exactly the goal of this party. A 'mamul' first and foremost should better the lives of its people and show strides towards such a goal to be taken seriously. Raise money to build a hospital or build roads, more wells, education etc... Call me biased, but this type of blatently tribal gathering is only to raise money for folks to engage in communal tribal war. At the end of the day each one of us can only worry about what end our money is used for. If our money is being used to kill people and cause further conflict, we will be responsible to answer for that on judgement day.

Peace Action, According to you the only way for somalis to establish a post-tribal society is through the revival of the failed republic of Somalia? I dare say Somaliland is the most advance post-tribal society and government Somalis have ever built. Relatively speaking no other Somali government or entity has built institutions that are as free and inclusive as Somaliland has. It has shown that any man from any tribe can ascend to any position in the government all the way up to the highest office of the land. Now please explain what other somali government past or present is less 'tribalistic' than that of Somaliland. Moving past tribalism doesn't mean it will disapear overnight, even in Somaliland it is obviously still present but to propagate popular lies about Somaliland and tribalism comes across disingenuous to the message your trying to put forward.

Chimera;773222 wrote: ^Good post, I'm a unionist but I don't believe in forced "unions", I say let those that want a different path, have the freedom to do so (this goes for the entire peninsula, not just Somaliland), there are to many commonalities between us that will always makes us gravitate to one another. In the mean-time Somalis should take the fear out of their enemies, lay low, develop their regions and cities with serious infrastructure projects, grow their regional economy and business clout and most importantly maintain stability through compromises. Eventually, come 2030, we would be the most educated, and the most prosperous ethnic group in the region. I fear however that peace in the South will mean war in the North, due to the short-sightedness of the current political crop, and manipulation of neighbouring countries. A serious pact of non-agression should be signed within this year between the major Somali stake-holders. Chimera, Your ideas are well intentioned and it's perfectly reasonable to assume economic development for all somalis can only come from peace and living peacefully with each other (even if it means 2 or 3 states). There aren't any countries or people that prosper as a result of engaging in perpetual conflict. But be that as it may, you should stay away from what I like to call the somali hubris often found in our community. This idea that if only we had 'peace', we would be so much more prosperous, influential and militarily superior to other people. I think somalis have so much misplaced pride that it is often very counter productive and leaves them in a state of paralysis. Oodweyne maybe undiplomatic in his replies but he's spot on when he talks about Xiins delusional comments about restoring a Somali state that will somehow rival or restore 'balance' against larger, more peaceful, developed and influential countries in the horn. " And, I am afraid, that is what is not likely to happen. For the wind of international reality is flowing a direction that so decisive against that old "irredentatism". And, unless, you have been a hermit living in the outback of down under in the last thirty years or so, you would of known, that, if Somalia reemerges from her agony, the first principle she would have to satisfy is the peace and tranquility of the neighboring states, with no silly talk of missing Somali land getting to be heard from anybody lips (even if it's a sotte voce one, indeed). " Reality is that Somalis all over the world have a total population of probably 20 million or less and the number that will settle in any somali nation-state will likely be less than this number. Other states are not gonna sit idly by while Somalis get there act together, Somalia remains a failed state at the moment and Somaliland an unrecognized self-governing entity which derives most of its business from trade with Ethiopia. Ethiopia's economy is among the fastest growing in Africa and it has recently started investing in infrastructure, so much so that they now provide electricity supply to neighboring countries like Djibouti. Ethiopia with its 80 million people is on track to become one of the top 10 most populous countries in the entire planet according to the UN and other sources by 2050 with over 200 million people. So you see when I hear somalis talk about how a 'united somali state' will rise and reclaim lost territory and be an economic and military force to be reckoned with in the horn of africa, I wonder if there always delusional or simply high of qaat for that night and will start to think clearly by the next morning. Even if against all odds a united Somali state were to be established, its peace and economic well being would be tied to its ability to forge business ties and maintain peace and good neighborly relations with countries such as Kenya and Ethiopia.

This entire forum has become a farce, there may have been a time when management of this website actually tried to maintain some sense of objectivity as far as disrespect and clan talk went. But I guess that got lost in all the political demagoguery; perhaps ownership felt the need to align themselves with their kin and not have their site serve as a 'platform' for the 'secessionist'. I was wrong in assuming ownership was after creating an environment of high quality exchanges on the web amongst the somali nation. Appointing the likes of MMA to 'moderate' this political section is one of many moves that seems to have degraded the quality of the exchanges in here over the years. Oodweyne;734725 wrote: Aah, the Range resources/Red Emperor and their ever cunning plan of announcing that they are about to "drill" very soon.... I wonder, if any of your western-educated pirate-landers, ever bothered to acquaint yourself with how company listing in the stock-market works? I mean, you do know by now, that, this particular company have a truck record of always announcing this sort of guff PR missives, just as it about to need to raise some further venture capital funding. Or failing that, just before it needs it's financial reputation to be taken stellar, which is when it needs new stock-market listing, like now, that they are trying to "list" themselves at the London's AIM market. In other words, did it ever occurred to you that, this is a "racket" (of a desperate one, no less) intended to keep getting venture capital funding from the market; and, therefore, in-order to "polish" the credential of this outfit, they keep repeating the same promise of "drilling" soon. As well as, making that PR statement, as a way of "enticing" new investors from the different stock-market around the world, in which, the share of this company is being listed on it. Which means, this is not a financial crime; but, it most certainly, not a "kosher" , either. And definitely, it's not ethical; or for that matter a sort of conduct in which a company that has any intention of fulfilling it's bargain should be doing it. And, finally, if you don't believe me; just, spend some time in reading the financial analyst statement about this company's prospect. Or even better, try to truck back this particular company's shares in-terms of it's movement at the Australian's stock exchanges (through Bloomberg's live financial channels). And, if you do that, at least for the last several years, you will see the how the shares of this company (in-terms of the up-tick spike or slight upward movement) correlates each new announcement this company makes, at least for the several years. And, after that brief spell of uptick movement, then, the shares come down again to the floor. Hence, this "yo-yo movement" of the shares is essentially the tell-tale sign that that there is no much confident that the punters (or investors) have on this company prospect; regardless of how many polished verbiage it's CEO makes about what is immanently in the pipe-line for them. And, furthermore, of all of the issuing of new shares through out it's existence (at least in the last several years), in which this company has being issuing, you'll notice that not a single outcome of a decent drilling, of any kind has been achieved so far. Which in turn, will make investors to give it a wide miss to it's "recurring" public share issuing or offerings. And, finally, to cap it all again, this "news" from the company is essentially the "polishing verbiage" that was intended to "prettified" this statement: Which means, in-order for the company to start with a "heavy bang" of investors "buying" it's share at the first day of it's listing on the London's AIM market; they have decided to "release" this statement to the market. And, it's in that "context" I hope those of you are educated enough to know how the western world works (particularly in it's financial market) will see it through what is going on in here; and, therefore, will not be gullible enough to be taking in here, indeed. Of course, it's not likely that you'll be the one who will loose one's shirt in London's AIM market if this company makes a real "killing" out there (come Thursday); but, be aware of the "game" that is being played in here. And most importantly, you must not be blindsided to believe, that, this sort of company is likely to be the one that will get the "black-gold" out of the ground in pirate-land. For theirs, is not of that kind of "business" at all; but, it's essentially a "beautiful racket" , intended to "bamboozle" some gullible's investors's from their hard dough, on a regular basis, indeed. Regards, Oodweyne. *********** PS :- One last thing, I have to let you in on, is that, if you investigate bit further this Red Emperor/Range Resources, you will soon find yourself in a smoke-and-mirror environment, where it's difficult to tell where Range Resources as a company ends, and Red-emperor begins, or vice-versa. Even, if you "believe" that, this two outfits are "partners" in-terms of Pirate-land's awarded licence. Hence, one could say, that, even, in-terms of their "corporate structure" or the sort of relationship that exist between them, this two outfits is bit murky to say the least! Oodweyne if you have access to a bloomberg terminal, I'm assuming you work in the markets? As for this whole oil drilling biz, I think you're all delusional if you think somalis can responsibly manage oil resources for the benefit of their countries.

Abokor Omar you are likely younger than Xiinfanin( if I had to guess) and yet your among the few in this forum to have a sober view of these daily political events. What Xiin ment to say was on every issue that causes disunity and strife amongst the communities of Somaliland, he is fully supportive. But that statement of itself would not make him a hypocrite. However, in the same breath he mentions that these very actions will somehow lead to the peaceful reunification of the old Somali Republic. He is not alone in having these warped views, there are countless pseudo patriots in the somali community. As for Awdal, the province is ruled by its own people from the regional level to the municipal level to its own reps in the national government, to the army as well. More importantly the people there have enjoyed 20+ plus years of peace, where they rebuilt their own infrastructure roads, schools etc... This was largely done by people of Awdal who decided to put their money and time into action with little to no assistance from the Government itself (like much of the rest of Somaliland). This Awdal State group aims to create division amongst those people and at the same time receives little to no support from the group of 'doers' on the ground who put their time and money into action. That said, the government of Somaliland should not be dismissive these groups and should have a clear strategy on how to counter them and deal with them.

Yup, that wasn't going to blow up. It was either very poor decision-making on the part of the Hargeisa Admin or a purposeful act to escalate a couple of gunfights into a bloodbath. Precedent dictates the former, which seems to be a chronic problem for these regional entities. Whatever happened to the accepted tradition of sending elders and other respected members of each community to engage in peacemaking? Goormaa askar iyo sell-out politicians la isu diri jiray? Finally, a possible positive: maybe we'll now see and hear less of Mr. Xaabsade after this. What would you have done to get a handle on the situation? Elders are already involved in mediating this matter from what I read elsewhere. Seems tensions are still high, It's very easy to criticize but at least the gov tried to get a handle on the situation on the ground aside from having 'elders' involved. Somalis are still stuck in certain primitive acts like affording protection to murderers who clearly commited an act of cold blooded killing. Doesn't matter where in the world it occurs when someone in an authority figure is murdered the back lash is usually very swift and sometimes ugly. A police chief gets murdered in any major city in the world the entire city will be turned upside down to find his killer. The tribal nature of somalis is the only powder cake that makes this situation slightly different. Now imagine this killers identity is known but he is being afforded tribal protection, tribal vigilantes seek revenge for the police chief and kill back some other more prominent and innocent members of the killers tribe and the beat goes on. If Somalis are to move beyond these primitive traditions governments should and have to establish the rule of law over the rule of tribal tradition plain and simple. So whether the politician is a 'trader' or you like or you don't like him is irrelevant. He represents the government and there has to be some sort of order established by that government, maybe these people should all go home and cool off instead of reading all these tribal incitements to violence from all over the place including this thread.

Odd to see an Ethiopian who takes such interest in somali matters. Like Burahadeer said the DJ port has got more capacity infrastructure wise. Not to mention that it is run by the emirates who happen to be great business minds with plenty of port experience in their belts. Not sure who's running Berbera but they probably ought to step their game up! I imagine they should be able to compete on price points and perhaps leverage any such advantages.

Somaliland Flag in Mogadishu - Delivering Aid in Pictures
LANDER replied to Jacaylbaro's topic in Politics
I understand when western countries display there flags on donated food, but I think its unfortunate that muslim people who are helping other muslims people feel the need to plaster their flags on every grain of rice they send. May God reward them for their generosity and spirit of giving. But we are muslims and should live by our own principles, principles that most of us are aware of but simply need remind from time to time. It reminds of the following hadith, especially the man "who gives charitable gifts so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given (i.e. nobody knows how much he has given in charity)": (1) Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Allah will give shade, to seven, on the Day when there will be no shade but His. (These seven persons are) a just ruler, a youth who has been brought up in the worship of Allah (i.e. worships Allah sincerely from childhood), a man whose heart is attached to the mosques (i.e. to pray the compulsory prayers in the mosque in congregation), two persons who love each other only for Allah's sake and they meet and part in Allah's cause only, a man who refuses the call of a charming woman of noble birth for illicit intercourse with her and says: I am afraid of Allah, a man who gives charitable gifts so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given (i.e. nobody knows how much he has given in charity), and a person who remembers Allah in seclusion and his eyes are then flooded with tears." (Book #11, Hadith #629) To Che, The same question could be asked of you and others who cling on to Somalia as it was, why do you ask obvious questions vis-a-vis Somaliland? Do you hope one day the facts on the ground will suddenly disappear and the former Somali republic will have one central government that rules over all of the its former territory? Do you think Somaliland will vanish into thin air? So if you want to avoid misleading, politically angled propositions you may want to lead by example. http://www.searchtruth.com/searchHadith.php?keyword=secretly+left+right+hand&translator=1&search=1&book=&start=0&records_display=10&search_word=all -
The hypocracy that comes from somalis never ceases to amaze me, there aren't many world class somali athletes from anywhere period. Regardlesss if they're hosting a puntland flag, kenyan flag or otherwise you would think people who claim to love all things somali would still be glad that someone from the their nation (literal sense of the word) is doing so well and likely achieving their life's dream. Why should a Somaliland flag be a 'PR disaster with the supposed 90% of somalis', Where is the love? lol ... Y'all need to look within yourselves and assess your values, principals don't change with what colour of flag is being hoisted.
