Those are positive agreements. We hope the see the project finalized successfully.

I see your confusion now. Gen Fartaag and Sheekh Aw-Libaax (along with Abdi Ali Hassan) were the "Gedo" signatories in the Jubbaland conference being formed with the support of IGAD. They with Ghandi of Azania, Kamboni deputy leader, and Darwiish who was later added to represent Puntland group concerns are the signatories of the entire project. I hope you now put the relevance of these men into context.

Carafaat- That perception (post-1991) has certainly existed but you must take into consideration the historical context. The genus of the 1991 civil war was the war between SNF and USC with its allies including the RRA. This community faced an existential threat to survive. It is popularly spoken by former USC members that if Aydeed (Alle hau naxariisto) had held Gedo, he would have become president of united Somalia. The mindset was a necessary defense mechanism. Whether this perception is relevant today is subject to interpretation but I am of the opinion it is not so. I am also not sure where you derived I believe in the leverage of military power and do not believe you are in the position to make that assessment.

Carafaat- Your question doesn't have legitimacy. Fartaag for example was born in Baardheere but is also a resident of Kismaayo and has family there. Even if one is born in Caabudwaaq or Balanbale or anywhere else, who can deny him the right to live anywhere in Somalia particular a hub for his kin? You must also understand I use "Gedo" as a euphemism for clan. A preeminent Kismaayo family like the Sugulles or any of that stock one would still label them as "Gedo" clan or those herdsmen taken out by that Kenyan soldier using water wells in Jannay Cabdalle 80 kilometers to Kismaayo. There is a level of interaction in the Jubba Valley today that has no existed anytime before it and current analysis must reflect this geographical and social evolution. Let's ease with the negativity.

Both Fartaag and Aw-Libaax are two of the signatories of the Jubbaland formation initiative. They with a large delegation representing the "Gedo" clan are enroute to Kismaayo to help lay the groundwork for the Jubbaland conference which is slated to begin meeting on Somali soil. They will be met by TFG commanders in Kismaayo from the "Gedo" clan including Gen Dhuumaal, Col Cabaas, Col Warfaa, and Col Raadeer, the man who will be taking over chairmanship of Kismaayo administration from Ras Kamboni's Ahmed Madoobe in the 20 day rotational agreement. Yunis- Right on. The important thing is the Jubbaland conference is one which has the signatures and support of the local stakeholders. Baashi- Without attempting to take away from anything you have said, it does seem a long time ago doesn't it when you and Samurai-Warrior were Gen Morgan's fan boys in this forum? Obviously you with a little more decorum.

The Zack;879944 wrote: ^Well it all depends the school you go to. Try OSU's graduate admission test and tell me it is easy. The author has a point, we are not in Italy. President should know that. Saacid is not a doctor. It's not Italy, it is Somalia. That's where the cultural misunderstanding exists. Dittore usage was one of many things Somalia borrowed including pasta, pronto scorso, polizia militare, aargoosato, etc.

The author is suffering symptoms of cultural misunderstanding. It is best that when opining on the politics of a country you must understand the political culture of the society. Somalia intelligentsia was grounded in post-colonial Italian political culture. In Italy, anyone who had finished a post-secondary education was a "Dittore". This is not to say a PhD or even Master's was attained, but even a Baccalaureate was given the title "Dittore". This culture was transplanted in Somalia intelligentsia culture. The PM being called "Dittore" by the President is perfectly reasonable in that context. It must be understood he is not making a statement implying graduate studies attainment.

They will be switching at the seats in 20 days. Madoobe will give way to Col Yasin Nuur Gaas as head of the administration and his deputies.
-
Ngonge- That perception is grounded in your myopic understanding of civil war Somalia. In the old days, democratic or autocratic, the basis of power, prestige, economic viability, and political institutions were in the Mogadishu-Kismaayo-Baydhabo triangle. It is only natural that the forming peace and security of those areas has a symbiotic relationship with increasing importance in the talks of the day. Che- The article is wrong; the interim administration in Kismaayo is rotational; after every 20 days leadership alternates.
-
Apophis- In the apocalypse that is Somalia, no one is "given" grazing rights. But you are right to point out today from Dollow to Kismaayo "Gedo" livestock graze where they see fit.
-
Che- Kismaayo is a Somali city.
-
Why not assess the US role or the British role or the Italian role, etc? ICG is showing the extent to which it is an extension of European Union political infrastructure by the very nature of assessing Turkish role alone.
-
Abwaan- Siigadheere real cousin.
-
Yunis- Shukri is the PM's sister-in-law; the wife of his real cousin.
-
Zack- Well somewhat. I look at it this way; if the President took 27 days to name this man, there must something about him that makes him suitable. Affirmation by the Prime Minister in terms of deeds and sayings only entrenches that thought.
-
After watching this interview, I believe the man is definitely ready for his new post and to lay down his mark in the post-transition.
-
Jacpher- The tone is cautious optimism. Don't poison the well my good friend, there is always another day for a Puntland PM. The issues at stake are much greater than that. Abwaan- Good sxb, change is always something to be excited about.

The appointment is done and he awaits confirmation. The incoming executive leader has with him the strongest mandate for governance in the last 21 years. This is a huge opportunity and carries great responsibility. It is our hope that he becomes, along with the new President and new Speaker of Parliament, one who lays down the foundation for the Somalia of tomorrow; the imagined Somalia of our highest aspirations. There are many things that need to be tackled in the immediate, including but not limited to the fact: -there are areas still occupied by Shabaab -security is vulnerable in many liberated zones -administrations setup in partnership with locals -basic foundations of an independent judiciary laid down -reconciliation advanced in the local and national level -economic development and basic reconstruction engineered Somalia has laid down the ground work to move beyond the transition; the transitional authorities, Puntland, Galmudug, Ahlu Sunnah did their part. We are now in the second stage; Somalia must transform. The entirety of the country must become healthy and it is our hope that in the next 4 years Somalia will indeed be out of civil war, statelessness, and fragmentation. Transition was an important word the last four years. Transformation will be an important word the next four years. God Speed.
