Gabbal replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
We expect him to considerably change American foreign policy as it relates to the TFG. -
It is about time the resistance started moving in to new grounds, forging more allies and expanding their support and logistical bases. We welcome it.

Islamists declare Sharia law in Somali town By Agence France Presse (AFP) Saturday, October 04, 2008 MOGADISHU: Islamists in a town in southern Somalia have imposed Sharia law in line with their vow to bring back Islamic theocracy to areas where they were ousted two years ago, a spokesman said Friday. The Mujahideen of Southern Somalia, a group allied to the Shabab movement, on Thursday named a 23-member board to enforce the law in Celwaq, about 650 kilometers southwest of Mogadishu. "This administration will govern the town using laws of the Holy Koran," spokesman Mohammad Osmail Indhobur said. Celwaq, near the border with Kenya, is home to tens of thousands of people. It has escaped much of the civil war, but local militia allied to Islamists have moved in to plug a power vacuum in recent weeks. Islamist fighters - accused of ties to Al-Qaeda by the US, a charge disputed by independent experts - gained control of the southern port of Kismayo five weeks ago after battles that claimed dozens of lives. A de facto Islamist government, of which the Shabab then formed a part, was ousted from central and southern Somalia early in 2007 after Ethiopian troops invaded to back the interim Somali government, ending an administration that had brought the first rule of law in years - in the form of Sharia law - to large swathes of the country for six months. They have since turned to guerrilla attacks on Ethiopian and Somali forces, and have had rising success. When in power in 2006, the Islamists carried out executions, shuttered cinemas and photo shops, banned live band music, flogged drug offenders and harassed civilians for failing to wear appropriate dress in public. Additionally, the Islamists severely curbed violence from inter-clan fighting in areas under their control, made inroads into ending corruption as well as virtually stamping out now-endemic piracy. Alarmed by the strict and fundamentalist version of Sharia law, the US led Western concern over a "creeping Talibanization" in Somalia by the Islamists. The US also provided air and artillery support for the Ethipian-led invasion that forced the Islamists from power in early 2007. US allies such as Pakistan, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia impose varying versions of Sharia law, including public executions, the mandatory wearing of head coverings for women in public, the banning of cinemas, segregation of the sexes and limitations of the rights of women. - AFP, with The Daily Star

A turning point you don't say, if the Ethiopians are begging to be replaced.

Ethiopia calls for UN peacekeepers in SomaliaBy KRISTA LARSON – 18 hours ago UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Ethiopia's foreign minister on Monday called for the U.N. to deploy peacekeepers to neighboring Somalia, where Islamic militants appear to be gaining strength. Foreign Minister Seyoum Mesfin's comments came just days after an attack on an African Union peacekeepers' base in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, killed at least 11 civilians. Mesfin urged the U.N. Security Council to deploy a U.N. peacekeeping mission "as soon as possible," or provide resources to strengthen the current AU mission, which includes about 2,600 peacekeepers. He praised the AU peacekeepers from Uganda and Burundi, who arrived in Somalia last year. "It is never too late for others to follow their example," Mesfin told world leaders during his speech to the U.N. General Assembly. Ethiopia, whose troops helped push the Islamists from the Somali capital in December 2006, says that it wants to withdraw. Within weeks of being driven out of Mogadishu, the Islamists launched an Iraq-style insurgency that has claimed more than 9,000 people, most of them civilians. Many in overwhelmingly Muslim Somalia resent the U.N.-backed Somali government's reliance on Ethiopia, a traditional rival with a large Christian population and one of Africa's largest armies. Ethiopia and Somalia fought a bloody war in 1977, and many Somalis see the Ethiopians as abusive and heavy-handed. Somalia has not had a functioning government since 1991. A U.N. peacekeeping force including American troops met disaster in Somalia in 1993, when militiamen shot down two U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopters and battled U.S. troops, killing 18. The battle was recounted in the book and movie "Black Hawk Down."

Originally posted by General Duke: Horn, Hiiraales defeat is another important factor in the shift towards normality. Gone is Hiiraale, Taano, Goobanle, Seeraar, cirfo, IndaCade. All individuals who took over from the locals of the Shabbele and the Jubas. True peace will come when the locals take control of the regions, just like they do in Somaliland, Puntland. Then it will be all quite. And with the demise of these individuals and the failure of their clan Jihad we are close to it. I thought the "locals" defeated Hiiraale and took over the region. What is this "we are close to it".

Kismayu: US Ambassador local clans captured it not Al Shabaab
Gabbal replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
I think Nuune is right. If this is true, then it means the U.S is providing excuse to prevent the Ethiopians from being forced to venture there because reports of "Islamist" takeover. Something the U.S would not be doing if the Ethiopians were able to conduct military exercises there. This is proof of the fact the Ethiopians are very much over-extended and bogged down elsewhere in the battle-ground regions. They cannot afford to fight a strong insurgency elsewhere particularly so in the dense and forested Jubba Valley. The fact that both Abdullahi Yusuf and his advisor Azhari spoke out saying the opposite of the American ambassador is proof of the American/Ethiopian strategy. All in all, this is a cause for relaxing--it means no surprise aerial assaults! -
Nuune, Barre isagaa is og laakiin anigu dagaal waan kasoo horjeedaa. Barre reerkiisa iyo awlaadisa Kismaayo dhib kuma haysato, haday ku haysato kama uusan tageen marka hada cadow shisheeye ayaa dalka haysto sabab loogu mashquulo rag kaliya la dagaalamayo cadowgaas anigu ma arko.

Is that because there is "Gedo" before the "net" Duke-oow?
-
Juje what is your take on the article?

Duke! Where are you tribal "locals" who chased out the "mighty" Hiiraale! Like I said in another topic, this administration means two things...either your tribal "locals" are figments of yours and Emporer's imaginations (as I have been saying so) or that you are a closet Al Shabaab supporter! Surely it is not the latter, so which is it?

Originally posted by Juje: quote:Originally posted by HornAfrique: .to be so accepting of an Islamist administration that is majority reer Gedo and for Kismaayo no less! Lol..! Saxiib ma dhuso ayad tahey cariiri jecliida, this new Admin had nothing to do and neither does it embrace any clan nor is it linked with any province that has a clan adminstration. It is the second time you used the reer Gedo and new admin link today - let me make clear one thing for you saxiib - if there is anything that the wadaads or shabaabs that have captured and building a new admin in Kismayo have nothing to do with is the accommodation of the needs of reer hebel and reer hebel. The fact that S/lander is head of the admin shows you that they have a different set of priorities than what has been the ill conceived norm in Somalia. In simple words sxb Horn stop your self imposed jubilation and with humility lick your wounds and admire a Somali solution at work. Indeed so Juje! Sheekadu adigu fahan. Where is Duke's tribal locals who chased out the "mighty" Hiiraale? Now this administration can mean two things...that Duke's tribal locals had nothing to do with what occured in Kismaayo (as I have been saying so) or that Duke is a supporter of Al Shabaab! Which one of the two is it?
