Islamist Militia Seizes Control Of Somali Town Last Updated: 12-06-08 at 11:45AM MOGADISHU, Somalia -- A hard-line Islamist militia seized control Saturday of a central Somali town, raising fears that the al-Qaida linked insurgents may expand their territory before the withdrawal of Ethiopian troops supporting the crumbling government. Ethiopia's influence in Somali political affairs first begun in the late 70's when the SSDF went to the hyena's den for protection following the coup attempt, expanded to the SNM in the 80's, and culminated in the fractured status of Somalis in the civil war. Prior to that, Somalis were never "used and misused stooges" because Ethiopia never held such powers over the Somali people. Also, the current leadership of Ethiopia itself, the TPLF, was a pawn of Siad Barre and Somalia against the Menguste Derg regime.

August 2006 was not Hiiraale vs. Islamist, the fight in it itself started between Hiiraale supporters and those who felt warlordism had no more position in Somali politics and wanted to move on. Hassan Turki himself said on the BBC "we [islamists] came to support those of Hiiraale's clan who wanted to move on during the second day of fighting". I guess that says something about the rest of your commentary. The situation in current Somalia is not the simple clan-oriented jigsaw puzzle it once move. Reorient your think and adapt or be left behind as a clueless laughingstock.
