Xiin does that mean we can have an amicable relationship kolayba Kulmis baad ahayde and you know me as Haraagi. Abwaan, it is about time what the majority of Somali people realize. I am not the most loyal to this transitional governments, but I can't help but shake my head and ask what is wrong with our nation when I hear people saying "may la hadlaan" implying the current major opposition.

Originally posted by Abu-S: Gabbal, I have realised (nay, internalised that I am Somali) thus I have to give back to my people in the small way I can. That being said, I am in no rush to going to dirty my hands as it were- politics in Somalia is not something to be desired as this juncture; things might change though . You shouldn't. My present concern is to amass as much wealth as I possibly can in order to get involved development and humanitarian wise from the tip of Lowyacade to Ras Kambooni. Politics is the pits and more so with the carcass of the Somali Republic. It is both translucent in a negative nature as well as regressive in a developmental nature. You are a very smart brother and one of the men of whom I have total respect for on this good forum; brother never believe delving in this temporary and modern regressive is suggestive of fame or an idealistic impulse to feel you are serving your nation better. Think beyond the box.

Sophist, brother when did you trade the stuffy posh nature of the upper class educated English elite for the dust of sub-Saharan Africa? Am I to assume, you are in the process of sullying your hands with the political maneuverings of the carcass of yesteryear's Somalia?

Originally posted by Gheelle.T: Gabbal, is Jengali brother of the late Dr. Mohammad Adan Sheikh? Yes sxb, he is is the much younger brother of the esteemed Dr Mohammad Aden Sheikh. With that said, I doubt Mudane Jangeli will give up his nice surroundings in the Bellevue area of Seattle metro, which happens to be the home of Bill Gates and Paul Allen, for the harsh mad max world and with this dawlad "gabalkeedu dhacay".

Somali, thank you for posting that beautiful eulogy of the late Doctor, a man who had nothing but respect from all who knew him and witnessed the contribution he provided to the Somali nation.

Originally posted by Abu-S: Good meeting, though was quite short for the Somali standards. What I have gleaned as far as the potential candidates are concerned: 1) Abduqadir Jangali (Geddo region) 2) Abdikarim Jama (Buhodle, current chief of staff) 3) Xalane (Jubada Hoose- current Finance Minister) 4) Edson (Mudug, current safiir in Kenya) S Interesting that Mudane Abdulqaadir Adden "Jangeli" is being considered. Mudane Jangeli is an Italian trained economist who once was president of the Somali Central Bank. He currently lives in the city of Seattle. He blogs regularly with respect to issues on the Somali crisis: Source Here is a scathing critique of the recent Ethiopian invasion of Somalia penned in play format: Hiiraan He is currently in Italy attending to the funeral of his older brother, the venerable Dr Mohammed Adden Sheikh.

Libaax I had no idea you were related to reer Aw-Maxamuud. Samir and iimaan to you and all your qaraabo brother. The Somali nation has indeed lost a giant.

Alle hau naxariisto, Dr Mohammed Adden Sheikh has died yesterday in Italy. Dr Mohammed, while being the first qualified Somali surgeon, was a prominent dignitary having assumed the offices of the ministries of Culture, Higher Education, Health, and Information. He was instrumental in the "Bar ama Baro" literacy campaign which coincided with his tenure as minister of Culture and Higher Education and was the brains behind many attempts to advance the Somali people through literacy and advancements in science and arts. May God have mercy on his soul and samir and iimaan to his famiglia in Torino, Italy. His obituary can be found here in the Somali BBC: Somali BBC

Somali Government Launches New Offensive Against Rebels Somali government is planning to launch a new offensive against Islamist rebels in southern Somalia. Somali Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Sharmake said on Sunday that several thousand forces trained in neighboring Kenya and Ethiopia will carry out the offensive. The second front against Al-Shabaab and Hizbul Islam rebels in south and central Somalia will take place before the end of the year. Foreign-trained Somali forces will try to take over towns including the port of Kismayo which is the "key to handicap all the financial resources of the war they conducted," Sharmarke told reporters. Kenya has recruited 2,000 Somali fighters based in northern Kenya while Ethiopia trained another 1,000 forces under a German-funded program. "Those forces have now completed their training and we are expecting them to come back and really now open a different front. Unless you open different fronts you're not going to end this war ", the prime minister said. The new tactic comes after government forces, helped by African Union AMISOM peacekeepers, pushed back Al-Shabaab offensive in the capital in August. Islamist rebels control much of southern Somalia and also the capital Mogadishu while Somali government force runs a few blocks in the capital, where at least 6,300 African Union peacekeepers are guarding the airport and presidential palace. The article is obviously without merit. There are numerous secondary schools in the region and recently formed higher institutions. Besides this, youth in Gedo region have access to Kenyan educational facilities with some estimates of more than 75% of all qualified secondary schools students in Beled Hawo and Dollow, for example, being enrolled in Mandera secondary schools giving them access to the only tangible and existing nationally and internationally qualified curriculum when compared with the rest of educational opportunities present elsewhere in the rest of Somalia. This is an article detailing Shabab action of stopping children from going to Kenya for their studies. They have since rescinded because of pressure from the local community. Somali militants ban school children from crossing to Kenya for education 05 May – The Al- Qaeda-linked Somali militant group Al- Shabaab has banned school children in the border town of Beled Hawo from crossing into the nearby Kenyan city of Mandera for education, according to residents. Elders in the border town of Beled Hawo confirmed that for the second day running, school children are not attending school because they were forbidden to cross into Kenya in search of education. “The Al- Shabaab authorities in the city told us that we cannot send our children to the Kenyan side of the border, alleging that education there is illegal according to the Islamic religion,” an elder in the town, Hajji Ahmed, told reporters by telephone on Tuesday. ]http://www.somaliamediamonitoring.org/uploads/2010/May/05MAY%202010-AFTERNOON%20ROUN D-UP1.pdf

Gaandi's disagreement with Sharif was based on whether the Kenyan-trained troops should have enter from Somalia through Dhoobley moving to Kismaayo or whether they should be transported to Mogadishu to support the government offensive. His heaving campaign against Sharif is what led to his sacking. However, both have been bested by Hiiraale who convinced the international community to unite the troops with his in Dollow in order to lead a sweeping regional offensive.

I guess one can hardly resist a discussion that revolves around a man whose legacy he is protective of. It is a demonstration of your political nature that you saw fit to remark on my "retirement" from this forum now and in this topic instead of the many times preceding where I took the liberty to opine in this very venue post-retirement. To Allamagan and Norf- I doubt either of the accusations you have leveled against each other can hold their weight in water given my observations of Allamagan as being a beezaani of the truest form and Norf even coming off as uncaring many a times towards the political secessionist ambitions of some of the northern regions. Hence, neither does one of you deserve to be labeled a qabyaaliiste and nor the other a hardcore secessionist.

Originally posted by TheParagon: Haddii daacad la yahay, let them even admit that the man's rise to the helm was due to his patriotic disgust at the corruption that was rotting the entire nation. Many that have replied here, with some achieving it disingenuously, would applaud a repainting of history in which the era of "I am 35 with 35 million shillings to my name" is masqueraded as a grand Victorian period of civil form of leadership giving honor to the notions of democracy and corruption-free existence. Perhaps, and I would freely admit, there is cause to criticize the tenure of Barre as head of state of the then Somali Republic but this was leadership stretching to decades and should not have an opportunity to question the reasons why the nation sought fit to end the era of the early 60's. With respect to the legitimacy of the nature and circumstance surrounding the occurrence of the coup one October 21, 1969, the Somali national can only recall the joyous response of the civilian population of the then Republic to the radio announcements of siinaan, midnimo, cadaadalad, and horumar to calmly see the devaluation of any revision of history with respect the era preceding the coup. Despite what may have transpired and in the final scheme of things I think most Somalis now realize the implosion of the Somali state was inevitable. The coup might have continued on the experiment of Somali state in a venue of controlled authority, but ultimately what was prevented by a military coup in 1969 became realized in 1991 with the proliferation of majority heinous criminals riding on the coattail of tribe as a vehicle with which to encapsulate power they knew not what to do with or use in any capacity to function and organize. As a result, Siad Barre is an easy scapegoat for the failure and primitive nature of the rebels, for after all he was an autocrat with supreme power, even if Somalia post-Barre has experienced a time frame equal to that presided over by the late president with an overwhelming majority of maneuvering having the distinction of being judged independent of the Barre past. May I also add how ironic it is to witness loyal advocates of Abdullahi Yusuf, a self-confessed total and abject failure in his quest to preside over Somali leadership and who for that matter is recorded via internet platforms such as youtube showing remorse for what he calls the tribal revolt he committed against a unified Somali state demoralized by a massive international defeat in war, sit there and toe lines even the rebels they supported have renounced. It is, by all nature and measure, an arrogant form of ignorance. It is also refreshing to behold the nature of Barre and his leadership becoming more and more apparent to the younger generation. Just recently, it was not wholly surprising to come across members of the younger generation peddling misinformation indulged to them by parents and family members who themselves where under misinformation peddled to them by clan rebels riding on the tails of their illiteracy and ignorance. It is a wonderful testament to the technological advances of the modern era that our younger Somali generation can now witness not only the Somalia we had an opportunity to witness but the nature and self-correcting false realities about personalities and individuals perpetuated by ignorance, clannish malice, and massive illiteracy of the older generations; all this being achieved in the prism of computer bedrooms and equal opportunity internet platforms.

Nassir good analysis but what belies your point is the fact the trajectory, at least in so far as political maneuvering is concerned, has permanently changed. Ethiopia does not control all the cards on the table as was the case just recently ago. Ethiopia had a base in Feerfeer, in Xuddur, in Beled-Xaawo and in Dollow. These were its most important gateway into controlling the destiny of the Somali Republic throughout its efforts in preventing a political stabilization of the area in Somalia that ultimately controls the future of the Republic; the South. Ethiopia does not breach within hundreds of kilometers of the border areas of Beled-Xaawo, of Dollow, and of Xudder and even the Feerfeer which is located on its side of the internationally recognized border has seen an absence of their influence, let alone or because of the current politico-military control of Beled-Weyne. Ethiopia has lost its control of all the cards and the shape-shifting and destiny making ability it held with respect to influence and pitting Somalis against each other. The question is will the Ahlu Sunnah movement now be forced by the people who give them refuge and manpower to break ties with the said nation and acquiesce as they did to the ICU. Time will tell but I want you to know the number one problem facing Somalia and the Somali Republic with the advent of our civil war is Ethiopian influence. Breaking that status quo has primacy over all.

Caabudwaaq is the capital of Ahlu Sunnah in Central Somalia and the base of their current politico-military strategy. With respect to that, the situation needed a game changer and this is the most intense game changer since the start of the current impasse. Bal aanu aragno halku shacuurta dadku deegaanku gaaro iyo inay mar kale hubkooda ku jeediiyaan meela aan looga baahnayn.
