Incidentally, that Dr. Looyaan is the current owner of Gedonet.

He was not a person who was hand picked at his time cause of tribal affiliation but of his capabilities. For such a man today(if it is true) to named as a mere political advisor to a PM who has no experience at all undermines the in integrity of Jaango'aan. If anything Jaango'aan desrves the very post he is appointed to advise. My point exactly; now going back to my question, what does "political advisor" for the prime minister mean to such a man as Dr. Jaango'an? Though if we were to look closely at the scheme of things, we should note Dr. Condi Rice is second place to George Bush of all people, no?

PM Geedi gets a heroes welcome in the capital:A historic moment!
Gabbal replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
The BBC's Mohammed Olad Hassan in the capital says the prime minister travelled to Mogadishu in a convoy of 70 vehicles, including jeeps mounted with anti-aircraft guns, known as technicals. I wonder how Abdulahi Yusuf will travel about the city, if the "man of the city" had to go that extremes? That's ofcourse, if he even goes there. -

Somali MPs snub UN bid to broker relocation deal Nairobi, Kenya, 04/28 - Somali lawmakers currently in Mogadishu snubbed a key meeting in Nairobi called by a specialised UN agency and President Abdullahi Yusuf to break the deadlock over the relocation of their government on exile to their war-battered capital. The UN Political Office for Somalia and co-chair of the Joint Coordination and Monitoring Committee (CMC), a UN- led group of international aid agencies working in Somalia, said here on Wednesday the Somali MPs snubbed the committee`s meeting which sought to end a row between the MPs and the cabinet over the relocation plans. "The issue is that the president and some members of the government want to relocate to what they see as a more secure town in Somalia until Mogadishu`s rival factions cede powers to a beefed up police force," said a UN official who declined to be named. "We recognise the efforts of these parliamentarians currently in the capital but we feel there should be national dialogue that everyone agrees on. We appeal for them all to come for such a dialogue in Nairobi," he said in an interview. But the MPs have snubbed the call and vowed to continue their attempts to pacify Mogadishu. "Going to Kenya would undermine our effort to pacify Mogadishu, which is a crucial part of the relocation of the Somali government," said MP Omar Hashi Aden, a spokesperson for a group of 80 ministers and MPs currently in Somalia. Aden stressed that the lawmakers, some of whom are also warlords, were surprised by the call that was also made by the UNCMC. "How could they dare stop a pacification process? We were elected to serve the people of Somalia and not to stay in Nairobi. Neither the Somali officials nor the outsiders talked to us about what we are doing before they came up with the idea of our leaving Mogadishu and returning to Nairobi. It is very big error," Aden said.

Really? This is news to me. What evidence do you (or anyone else) have to prove your aforementioned statement? For example, were you present the day the Yemenis miraculously invented the 'dirac'? More importantly, how do you explain the prevalence of the 'dirac' in Somali culture? How prevalent is the 'dirac' in Yemeni culture today? P.S. Since we Somalis like to eat bananas with our lunch, does this tradition also come to us from across the Gulf of Aden? Just curious.. Sometimes sarcasm is a very accurate way of replying. Wind, thank you for showing just ludicris that assertion was. Do we have culture? Hmm, Let me answer by asking are you Somali? Do you speak Somali? Do you understand the meaning of "Ceeb" (shame)? Do you belong to a specific reer Hebel (Qabiil-clan)? Do you label any non-Somali or non-Arab as "Gaal" (infidel)? If you are a woman; are you obsessed with learning how to do "Buraanbur"? If you are a guy; are you forever looking for a "inan aad ku qabatid" (marriage prospect)? Do you understand what "maariin" and "madow qurux badan" mean? Have all the "aroosyaal" you attended consisted of a reception that started post-midnight? Had individuals you had never met before introduced theirselves to you in the "suuq" (market place) or "maqaayad" (restaurant) as your "adeer", "abti", "eedo", or "habaryar"? Have you heard enough "maah-maah" (sayings) to last you a life time? Have you had the pleasure of hearing centuries-old "gabays" (poems) recited in your presence? Does a "marti-qaad" (luncheon) usually consist of saffron-colored rice, "hilib-dhigaag" (spiced-chicken), and "hilib-adhi" (spiced-lamb)? During times of sickness, does every Somali that comes across of you give you a specific "daawo" (cure) as if they graduated with honors from the most prestigious medical learning institution? Does that "cure" happen to include "xabad-soodo" (blackseed)? Is the most loved material of your mothers' her "dahab" (gold jewelry)? Is the most loved material of your fathers' his matching "surwaal" (trouser) and "shaati" (sleeve-shirt)? Is the most loved material of your grandmothers' her "tusbax" (prayer bead)? Are the most loved material of your grandfathers' his "shaal" (shawl) and "bakoorad" (walking stick)? Those are just a few of the questions I would dare ask any individual that doubts the Somali's cultural uniqueness, but let me just say that our culture is not based on our material display but on our deeply rooted inner qualities and psyche. The words of our former president Abdirsheed Sharmaake ring true as he was speaking of the boundary divisions of the Somalis in the Horn: Our misfortunes do not stem from the unproductiveness of our soil, or from lack of mineral wealth. These limitations on our material well-being were accepted and compensated for by our forefathers from whom we inherited, among other things, a spiritual and cultural prosperity of inestimable value: the teaching of Islam on the one hand and lyric poetry on the other. Moreover, our forebears developed techniques of animal husbandry, which available to them. By their skills we live today, and, with the generous assistance of wealthier nations, we shall lay new foundations, in accordance with our liberal and democratic Constitution, for the spiritual and material enrichment of future Somali generations.

WIND- No one is disputing with you that Communist Yemen, better known as "South Yemen" provided crucial help on the part of the Ethiopians, but I fail to understand how one puny cornered sub-nation speaks for Yemen as a whole, let alone the wide and large Arab nation! To understand their act, which I believe was not done by their love for Ethiopians as opposed to Somalis, you have to comprehend what drove them to support the Amharas. Yemen of today was back then divided into N. Yemen and S. Yemen. N. Yemen had a political ideology similar to that of the rest of the Arabs, but S. Yemen was by and large communist! After labeling the N. Yemenis as "reactionaries" they successfully sought the incursion of the Soviets into the lower Hadramout regions. S. Yemenis were cornered by the "reactionary Arabs and Somalis" so well that they were literally at the behest of the Soviets! When the late Siyad Barre (ilaahay ha u naxariisto) increased tensions with the Ethiopians, the S. Yemenis did everything in their power to reconcile the two Horn-of-Africa nations so as to not lose favor with the Soviets or go against their long ties with the Somalis. However, Siyad Barre at a conference held in S. Yemen that was initiated by Fidel Castro, rebuffed the whole idea of Socialism and said it would always take second place to Somali ireddentism! The dice was rolled, the war started, the Soviets chose their side, and the S. Yemenis had to look out for their own personal safety and interest. It was the case of "no hard feelings, but this is what I have to do". However, we would never have survived during and after the war had it not been for the tremendous support coming for Anwar Sadat of Egypt and Hafiz al-Asad of Syria. Those two, particularly Syria which was at that time under Soviet patronage, truly did magnificent in supporting us. When the Somali army was forced to retreat by the combined prowess of the Soviets, Cubans, Angolans, Yemenis, and Ethiopians, Egypt even proclaimed Ethiopia risked invasion by Egypt if they crossed into the boundaries of the Republic of Somalia. The United States, who was really concerned about expanision of communism into the whole Horn, even lent Egypt large numbers of military aircrafts and merceneries were Ethiopia to cross into the territory of the "Somali Republic". So, Wind_Talker, whether we like or dislike people we should always be grateful for their help. Let Arabs be what they are, but they have done us more favors then we could have ever given them. What have we ever done for them anyways, to weigh the support and help they have given us?

Police arrest fleeing Somali warlord Standard Correspondent Police yesterday arrested a Somali national whose militia are accused of sparking renewed clan fighting in Mandera District. The self-styled Col Suleiman Haji Omar fled into Kenya and surrendered after his troops were overran by rival militia in the latest wave of fighting over the control of Bur-Hache, a border town on the Somalia side. Police said preliminary reports indicated that Somalia National Front forces invaded Bur-Hache, where one of the local clans had set up a training camp. North-Eastern Provincial Commissioner Abdul Mwasera said Omar and some of his troops were being held at Elwak. Weapons was seized from them after they sought refuge. "We had beefed security along the border by the time fighting erupted at Bur-Hache a fortnight ago. Our forces were on high alert to counter any spillover," Mwasera said. Kenyan authorities wanted the training camp disbanded, saying it was a security threat. Embakasi MP David Mwenje, who chairs the parliamentary select committee on security, recently urged the Government to cross into Somalia and break the camps to end fighting in Mandera which has claimed more than 80 lives since January. LOL why would Axmaaros, or Tigrays fo that matter, disrupt the best show on earth; a Somali clan battle? Bunch of volatile, peacock-proud, AK-wielding skinnies showing how they are prime examples of the term "anarchy". Seriously though, I'm guessing it's one less Somali the Ethiopians have to worry about. The only claim Somalis have to eastern Ethiopia is the fact that it is inhabited by Somalis right? If we are committing self-destruction for their benefit, I think they would be more then happy in fueling the fire then cooling it.

I will not get in this debate, it might seem like I'm a scoring a point or two, but how you, Sky, managed, whether ignorantly or purposely, to miss the gist of Wind's side of the debate is amazing. Now, I hope, you realize that Cabdulahi Yusuf has become the face of the northeast by calaf, but is not, however, accepted by the majority of the inhabitants there.

WIND- As our Tolstoy said in another thread.. I do recalled back in 1996 when I heard the news of Ethiopian army going into Gedo region to help the then SNF strongman, Gen. Omar Hagi Masaleh, who had control much of gedo and it's enviroment, before the forces of Al-Itaxaad, got the upper hand against him and tussled the region from his grip. The intriguing thing was that before that time, although there was small skirmishes along sub-clannish cleavages in Gedo population, but over-all picture was too much of a tranquil atmosphere, which was to the benefits of the region's people as whole; and one could even say, that the Gedo as whole was developing quite nicely as an economical traffic juncture between Kenya - Ethiopia - and Somalia; as well as being a one of the peacefull area of Somalia of that time, particularly the southern part of the then Somali Republic. WIND- Whether this current Al-Itihad has the same objectives of that, no one can dispute that Gedo had a remedy in AL-Itihad. I can only sum it up in two words; peace and prosperity. Gedo community had, unfortunately, a more deadly Col. Abdulahi Yusuf Ahmed in Gen. Cumar Haaji Massale. I've always believed that the incessent anarchy that has plagued Gedo ever since the ouster of Al-Itihad, is the result of curses from those Sheikh who were nothing but a blessing to the land and people there. Cuqubo iyo inkaar ayee Gedo kala galabsaday sidii foosha xumeed ee Al itixaad loola dhaqmay sxb.

Tolstoy that is really enough spleen from you, with your continual non-sensical blabbering. It truly bespokes of your outrage in having been spoken to so candidly as our dear friend there has taken the liberty to do so. It seems as your tactics concerning those few considered your cyper "foes" hasn't really changed, eh? You've tried it on me, and now it is Wind_Talker under attack from that sharp tongue of yours. It almost makes me certain, Wind_Talker is somewhat of a cyper "threat" to you..? You may think I'm one of those prone to conispiracies, but I'm almost certain you went after Wind_Talker because of his accurate descriptions of ... Somaliland? Now I will plead with you if I must. Please refrain from ruinging the integrity of this forum. You, your very person, has alleged that this is your "favourite" Somali internet forum, did you not? Then contribute as positively as you can and as intelligently as you can. I have no doubt you can do both those aforementioned things, in the same way I feel it does not become of you to resort to character assasination. Especially to individuals who neither deserve nor want it. p.s. Purely food for though here. If our Wind_Talker is the village i d i o t's, then are you not our village storyteller so prone to storytelling, whether fact or fiction, to our young children?

For all things considered, Al Itihad did very well in Gedo. To be honest, the history of Al Itihad in Gedo is vibrant and there was religious as well as econimic developement not to mention the almost end of sub-subclanish conflict. It seems as the odds are stacked against Al Itihad because the Somalis themselves are not willing to accept a a strict higher religious authority governing them, and the western world and our neighbor Ethiopia simply will not allow it and do everything in their power to destroy it.
