Ra'iisul wasaare Farmaajo oo Doonayo wada hadal uu la galo Mucaaradka

What he wants and what is possible under the circumstance are two different things. Shabaab are beyond the pale of negotiations. -

Well at least reer Gedo seem to be civilized people who can disagree with each other vehemently on policy. Perhaps such a nature of dissent could have been useful while Abdullahi Yusuf was trampling on the name of Puntland as TFG president. -

Xiin- Native Americans lived on these shores I call home now in the 17th hundreds as well Xiin. Even if your statement was accurate, it's hardly saying much. As for assumption of blood relations to Godane and Zaylici, I do not know how that accounts for anything when these two men planned all the terrorist acts in present-day Somaliland. I can understand the confused Red Sea, who is at one point an Islamist and another a born-again tribal nationalist, but I am quite surprised that divisive character by the name of Xaji Xunjuf has his head in every topic of this nature. Haatu- All I know is his is intent on trying. -
Beled-Hawo: Bare Hiiraale again flees , Al Shabaab back in
Gabbal replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
As I understand it, his objective is not to be a cowboy. According to my sources he can and has twice defeated Shabaab but Barre's strategy is very much dependent on the Bay and Bakool group making a breakthrough from the Bakool border as well as the finalization of the Kenyan trained troops, who are suffering logistical problems at the 11th hour. He will be back, as soon as the Kenyan trained troops have neared the border of Ceel-Waaq, or Ceel-qaalow in Kenya. This is estimated to be in two-four weeks time of which the next time, the fight will not stop at a single city but spread south to the Indian Ocean. Also, I find it rather amusing Barre's most ardent admirers on this froum seem to be those from Hargeisa and Boosaaso, two groups whom this affair neither concerns. -
Hargaysa behind Al Shabaab Godane, Afghani mere agents

Don't be ridiculous. Godane would destroy Hargeisa faster than he did many southern cities in order to accomplish his objective. -
Ngonge, I was on the verge of going out of my way to label you a genius until you posted that link at the end. Oodweyn is indeed a character.

In all honesty I do not believe a lot, unless his term is extended or given new mandate with new election, but the panic for such a short inconsequential term has already been noted. Nin wax yaqaan odayaashani wax magaratada ah uma ogola Soomaaliyada haatan jirta.

Indeed. I am not so much as sure the problem is arising from the PM's clannish background as much as his educated nature. Odayaal badan baa jiro oo isbaaro meesha dhigtay lagana bilaabay the Samatar professor from Minneapolis whose last interview faulted the uneducated nature of the members of the TFG and today has put his own isbaaro in front of Farmaajo to keep the hype surrounding his own stature going.

Though I have not opined for the better part of a year nor agreed with most of what Oodweyn said prior, I missed this clever old chap who, like me, has his own achilles hiil. Oodweynoow ku mee? Kolayba Udub baad ahayde, armaad Siilaanyo xarash u qabtaa?

Waxii la qariyo qurun baa ku jiro. Even if you look at the U.S Congress, normal voting is public but during controversial votes, the ruling party can decide on secret voting, such as occurred with the Democrats during Health Care reform, in order to help their members from constituencies in which their voting could make them vulnerable. That prevents them from being held accountable by their constituency. Since I haven't known you to write in Somali, I will explain this as "sunlight is the best disinfectant". If such an argument has not arisen with the confirmations of Gheedi, or Nuur Cadde, or ina Abdirashiid, why should this debate be taking place now if not "Wax qurun ah meesha ku jirin"? Sharif and the PM were right in walking out during the first day, as well as the majority of parliamentarians who called out the speaker, as well as the attorney general who questioned the constitutionality of the Speaker's actions. Now the Shariif realizes he tried to win a losing battle hence the capitulation.
-
Abdullahi Yusuf got rid of him or did you forget already? Then he made his way to Eritra and Djibouti to ally with the man he is now showing political animosity towards.
-
Damage control from Shariif Sakiin. You never want to rear your head against the tide or you get swept by it. A quorum of parliamentarians have pledged to usher in the new PM and the Attorney General has called it unconstitutional to give vote of confidence privately. What is Shariif Sakiin to do but capitulate? The only thing is his animosity towards the president has been announced to the public and if I were him, I would start counting down my days. The Speaker can survive taking sides between the president and PM but a speaker who antagonizes the head of state as well as the new head of government with enough influence between them in the Parliament doesn't seem to be holding on to his title for long.

Farmaaje’s Thesis [Book] sparks controversy in Mogadishu, [Download Book]

Originally posted by Prometheus: The claim that leading politicians from some tribes achieved political prominence only as a result of colonial favoritism is both ahistoric and myopic. Enemies of the democratic process always label their opponents as agents of an external hegemon. Somalia would have been a very different place had Barre not contravened and crushed the nascent democracy of the 60s. I am reminded of something the former American ambassador to Somalia, Peter Bridges, said to once Somali Interior Minister Maxamed Maxamoud Jaango'an. He said "above all, Somalis are fabulously arrogant. Here I am, doing my best to get the Africaphiles in the department of State of my country to notice this nation while I am left thinking Somalis are the center of the world anytime I speak to one." The reality and history of of colonists with respect to the colonized societies is rife with colonists favoring those communities perceived to have been favorable and amenable. I mean how can you speak with ignorance when some of the biggest atrocities in Africa have foundation in such; particularly in Africa's most well known genocide as relating to the events in Rwanda where the French favored the Tutsi, 10% of society, over the Hutu, 80% of society, resulted in heinous action from pent up frustration and anger? It is well know that some Somali clans accepted colonial and missionary schools prior to others which led to a perceived prominence in the defunct 60's you label a "nascent democracy". Nascent democracy is not 160 political parties of every clan, ministers saying I am 35 with 35 million shillings, or an inability to get something as simple as a national ortography passed stretching to a full decade. There is a reason why all Somalis reacted with such joy and exhilaration to the slogans of siinaan, midnimo, cadaalad, and horumar by the men who took power in 1969 and no amount of revisionism using post-1978 Siad actions as base can change with respect to the legitimacy of the coup in 1969. -

Heavy Somalia fighting near Kenya border MOGADISHU—At least 16 people were killed when Somali pro-government forces wrested back a town from Islamist insurgents Friday, as a new southern front piled pressure on the Al-Qaeda-inspired insurgency. The clashes in Bulohawo erupted late Thursday and pitted fighters from the Shebab rebel group against a pro-government clan militia led by a local warlord and recently trained by Ethiopian forces. "The fighting stopped late last night and we fully control the city now," said Moalim Muse Ahmed, a senior commander with the pro-government militia. "We killed many of our enemies and their dead bodies are in the streets," he added. The local militia was supported by forces from Ahlu Sunna wal Jamaa, a powerful Sufi movement that took up arms almost two years ago to counter the Shebab's advance and has become one of Somalia's foremost military outfits. According to residents, the fighting resumed on Friday morning and the pro-government force had taken control of the town, which lies close to where the borders of Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia meet. "The fighting was the heaviest ever in the town and at least 16 people, most of them fighters, were killed," Abdirahman Abikar, an elder, told AFP by phone. "There was heavy shelling from the pro-government side when the fighting resumed early this morning and the town is now under the control of Somali forces," he said. Witnesses said the fighting claimed some civilian lives too. "We are collecting the dead bodies this morning, five members from one family who were killed after artillery fire hit their house are among the casualties," Yahya Mohamed, a local resident, said. "The death toll could climb above 20 because there are still many dead bodies lying in the streets of the town, from which most of the residents have fled by now," he added. The pro-government force was led by Barre Shire Hirale, a veteran military leader, and consisted mainly of fighters from his ******* clan who were recently stationed in the town of Dolo, on the Ethiopian border. Hirale is a former minister of defense with the transitional federal government (TFG) who ruled over Kismayo – Somalia's largest southern port – before the Shebab ousted him in 2008 and turned the city into their main base. He has since been reforming a militia with Ethiopia's support. In the late nineties, Hirale founded the Jubba Valley Alliance and unilaterally declared the autonomy of Somalia's main southwestern provinces until the Islamic Courts Union defeated him in 2006. The fighting in and around Bulahawo was the most significant military offensive against the Shebab that far south in months and marks a third front in a reinvigorated campaign to pin back the insurgency. In recent weeks, another front ignited further up the border when Ahlu Sunna engaged insurgents in the key town of Beledweyne. Major Shebab troop movements have been reported in recent days across southern and central Somalia as the fresh assault, combined with ongoing fighting in the capital Mogadishu, was stretching insurgent forces. The Western-backed TFG has been promising a major offensive to stamp out the Shebab for more than a year but the insurgents, who count foreign jihadi fighters in their ranks, still control three quarters of the country. In Mogadishu, the African Union's force (Amisom) has been awaiting reinforcements and a more robust mandate to make a more significant impact and claim control of the capital's center. -

Not at once did any credible news source say shelling was from Ethiopian side. All sources said shelling came from Dollow and assumed it must have been Ethiopians because few knew the reality of what was being concocted in that district for the past year and half. Two weeks ago, news medias reported IGAD officials had landed in Dollow. Little did they know Barre had finalized his training, and the delivery was the promised consignment of heavy armory agreed upon with the AU. Couple weeks ago Source -

Shelling did occur but on the defensive positions of Shabaab outside of the city after they took the bait. Both the VOA and BBC have interviewed civilians inside of the city who concur that few of the fighting took place in the city and the shelling was on the Shabaab positions outside of the city. Also, it would be more sophisticated of you to upgrade your rhetoric. Instead of dwelling with emotional ad hominems, please address fact. It is also prudent of you to upgrade from 90's discourse. Not at any point did fighting take place in the city and only one shell hit any part of the town. By the time Shabaab came to surprise Barre, his sentry had already informed movement and he cleared out which is what cause the confusion of the early "Shabaab has taken Beled-Xaawo". After Shabaab, the city was empty they believed Barre had ran and started to follow being lured into Barre's groups who had dug trenches in the valleys. The carnage wrought on Shabaab is unimaginable as has been reported which includes the death of Abu Muscab. -

Shabaab has suffered one of the most major defeats as of yet. Their remnants are now in Garbahareey. All reports of city being bombarded or burned was false as well as reports of Shabaab defeating Dollow guys at any point. After the initial defeat of Shabaab near Malkaariya couple days ago, Shabaab has brought men from as far as Kismaayo. In their counter-strike, they have become victims of Barre's institutional military experience that saw him use the city as bait and switch, eventually bringing Shabaab to him in the valleys in their misplaced confidence. Also, most of the shelling was not actually done by Ethiopia but by the Dollow group through the use of IGAD and AU supplied weaponry which was delivered to them recently. He currently has about two thousand men he has been training for the last year and a half and his objective has finally been announced to be Kismaayo. -

You are right, Faroole would have flown back to Australia. With that said waa xog loo hayo adeer. Shabaab's primary jewel in Somalia they cannot function without is the city of Kismaayo. Whoever controls Gedo will be a dominating force in the stability of that city and there is one group challenging that position. Waa xog loo hayo, adigu haysku mashquulin.
