  1. If there are people who are interested in donating, there are various Somali NGO's that are helping and could use whatever you could give. One of those NGO's is called SADO and is providing very critical humanitarian need. Though their budget was not designed for this kind of work, they have decided to spend every single penny they own to save as much people as possibe in that region. There are others also working in various regions in the south. They should be commended.
  2. I'm tired of this diplomacy crap where by the time the Palestinians are allowed at the table, they've conceded everything but their lives. Comrade, you hit the nail on that one. I have watched so many Isrealis vs Palestinian debates in which Yassir Arafat was chastised and criticized for walking out of the Camp David during Clintin's mediation of him and Ehud Barak. What they implicitly tried to hide the truth from the viewers and audienaces was that Arafat was more then right in walking out! Yes, it was the first time since Rabin the Isrealis were willing to engage in constructive dialogue rather then Netanyahu's hardline rhetoric, but Arafat was still right for walking out. The Isrealis (with complete American support) brought out a map of an independent Palestinian state in which the land (essentially a soverign state!) was divided into quasi-states manned and controlled by Isreali miltiary personallel at various checkpoints. I was shocked when I looked at that map and saw the situation for how it was and compared it with how it was being protrayed as. Imagine British checkpoints on the border of all the fifty states of the (a sovereign!) United States of America. You tell me if the representatives of Uncle Sam would have taken that. So, comrade, I do agree with you because that is absaloutely too much to concede. No person with a sense of dignity and an once of self-respect is going to appease their hunger for peace and self-governance for so low! Good on them and kudos to the Palestinian people. Ilaahay ha idin garab galo.
  3. File shows US 'psychological operations' concerns By Will Dunham Thu Jan 26, 7:00 PM ET WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld acknowledged in a document made public on Thursday that information spread by the Pentagon to influence foreign peoples and enemies increasingly seeps back home and is "consumed by our domestic audience." The Pentagon argued the "psychological operations" information was truthful. But the research organization that obtained the document through the Freedom of Information Act described it as propaganda planted overseas that inevitably made its way back to the United States. The document's disclosure comes amid a fierce debate over what is permissible for the U.S. government in getting its message across to foreign audiences. For example, the U.S. military command in Iraq is investigating a military program that funneled money to some Iraqi newspapers to publish pro-American articles. The document, marked "secret," was titled "Information Operations Roadmap," and laid out the need for the Pentagon to improve its capabilities in psychological operations, electronic warfare, military deception and other areas. "Secretary Rumsfeld's road map says the American people can't be protected from the Pentagon's psychological operations abroad but it doesn't matter as long as he's not targeting the American public. It's the collateral damage theory of propaganda," said Thomas Blanton, director of the National Security Archive at George Washington University in Washington. The document stated that "information intended for foreign audiences, including public diplomacy and PSYOP (psychological operations), increasingly is consumed by our domestic audience and vice-versa." Chief Pentagon spokesman Lawrence Di Rita said he rejected the notion the Pentagon was comfortable with the notion of propaganda "bleeding back" from overseas to the United States. "We're not OK with it," Di Rita said. "First of all, we're not lying. We're talking about truthful, accurate information, so that's baloney," Di Rita said. The document noted that psychological operations were restricted by both Pentagon policy and presidential executive order from targeting American audiences and news organizations, as well as U.S. military personnel. "The increasing ability of people in most parts of the globe to access international information sources makes targeting particular audiences more difficult. Today the distinction between foreign and domestic audiences becomes more a question of USG (U.S. government) intent rather than information dissemination practices," the document stated. Information used in psychological operations "will often be replayed by the news media for much larger audiences, including the American public," it stated. "The likelihood that PSYOP messages will be replayed to a much broader audience, including the American public, requires specific boundaries be established," the document stated. Pentagon officials said the document remained in effect but that some matters it covered were being re-evaluated. Source
  4. Clinton supports filibuster of Supreme Court pick Alito January 27, 2006, 5:19 PM EST WASHINGTON (AP) _ Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton said Friday she will support an effort to filibuster the Supreme Court nomination of Samuel Alito because she is concerned he will not do enough to protect American freedoms. "He would roll back decades of progress, and roll over when confronted with an administration too willing to play fast and loose with the rules," Clinton, D-N.Y., said in a statement. "Because I do not think Judge Alito would advance the principles Americans hold most dear, I oppose his nomination and support efforts to block his confirmation," she said. The senator is up for re-election this year and is a potential presidential candidate in 2008. She said earlier this week that Alito's ascension to the highest court in the country would risk abortion rights, privacy rights and environmental standards. Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., has pushed for a filibuster, but the Senate Democratic leader, Harry Reid, said Friday, "Everybody knows there are not enough votes to support a filibuster." A filibuster requires 40 votes out of 100 members to block action on the Senate floor. New York's Sen. Charles Schumer, a member of the Judiciary Committee that questioned Alito, said he opposes the nomination but has not said if he would support a filibuster. Source
  5. Norf, am I mistanken or did you say "Muslim peer"? I don't even get worked up by these kinds of things anymore. It's the end of time people, end of time. Feel sorry for these people and pity them, but let them lose their voices over nothing. Reactio is what they are looking for. Meel haka bixiso dee.
  6. Ayoub- Would it have matter if he had written "balaadhan? Speech is a product of geography, not clan affiliation.
  7. Muslim cleric faces charges in Washington SEATTLE, WA, United States (UPI) -- A Muslim cleric, arrested last November, Monday faced charges in Seattle of giving false information to U.S. immigration officials to enter the country. Abu Abrahim Sheik Mohamed, the imam of the Abu-Bakr Mosque in Rainier Valey, was arrested by the Seattle FBI`s Joint Terrorism Task Force as he got off a domestic flight at Sea-Tac Airport. His arrest had shocked Seattle`s Somali community which says he works to keeps children out of trouble, reports the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Hilary Han, Mohamed`s attorney, said government documents also contained 'hearsay allegations that he is involved in groups that they classified as militant,' the report said. 'In my opinion, it`s just inflammatory. He has no links to any terrorist group. He`s not engaged in any terrorist activity.' Han said. The newspaper quoted a federal source that agents had not found information showing Mohamed participated in terrorist activities and that it was unlikely he would face any terrorism-related charges. One Somali community member said Mohamed is the victim of slander by tribal opponents of the cleric.
  8. ^^Panthers made a new nick for us sxb Winless in Seattle. PERIOD. All of the hawk's hater need to eat their heart out cuz this OUR year. We goin to the Suuuuperbowl! We goin to the Suuuuuuuuuuuperbowl!! WE GOIN TO THE SUUUUUUUUUUUUPERBOWL!!
  9. Also thank the American 5th fleet for capturing some spineless pirates this weekend. Rubbish. They are simply protecting our coastline from illegal fishing and toxic chemical waste dumping. p.s. Before I am attacked for it, I have absaloutely no tribal affiliation with them.
  10. The Somali word for teach is "bar" which is, strangely enough, the same as the English word for an establishment where alcoholic drinks are served. Furthermore, the Somali word for liver is "beer", which is, in English, a kind of alcoholic beverage. Obviously, the two words "bar" and "beer" indicate that Somalis were aware of the detrimental effect of alcohol on the liver and were attempting to teach it to others! Classic indeed. I take it that is enough for you to criticize the article?
  11. No Comrade, I am into making my own opinions rather then letting others decide them for me. I respect the nomad Ngonge (don't know why or for what reason), but that is what I term "rep-building".
  12. Alla-Ubaahne labada oday waa ka badbadisay dee. I think you guys are buying exactly what they want you to buy. Who said Ngonge is rude, superior, or conceited? Perphaps that is what he wants you to perceive. Castrona waxu hayaa iska yar. I have never seen the nomad hold down a debate. If you are serious about your liberal consipiracy on SOL then stop feeding them the ammo to keep you that paranoid.

    3. Welfare state means that work-shy somalis like me can get free hand-outs from the state. 4. Snow Somalis love it. You seem like a stereo-typing foreigner.
  14. Strange. Is this factual info or just making a topic? I have never heard of such a thing. Matter of fact, debate with a Somali about the topic of beauty and you get the honest impression that any who can be deemed somewhat overweight represents beauty to them. p.s. C'mon does anyone in that part of the world actually have to try hard to stay slim? Who are we kidding folks.
  15. Qofkii qawl aanan quruxsanayn ku hadlaa horey loo ma gowraco ee waa loo odayeeyaa sxbyaal. Paragan, ninyahow you took one of my points and beautified it. Sax! He should have been chastised, criticised, and made to feel ignorant for those views but not get banned
  16. ayaa sheegaya in arintan ay salka ku hayso aanooyin qabiil oo horay uga dhacay If that is true, it is indeed sad. Nothing ends between Somalis.
  17. ^Hadalkaadu meel fiican buu iiga dhici lahaa hadaanun garanayn waxaad tahay iyo tariikhda aad meelahaan ku reebtay. Samurai I want to restress that I hold the opinion that Jumatatu displayed here offensive and sad, and I even pitied him for being so weak as an individual to be driven that low. However, there have been numerous occasions on this part of the forum in which insulting and degrading certain people of certain origions calling them and labeling them all kinds of inhumane descriptions was the norm. All nomads have participated in that sort of diatribe. In the history of this forum, there have been so many occasions of extreme disrespect that some of us would simply think as just low, but such that others would have felt it was outright vulger and repulsive and on par with what the aforementioned nomad was banned for. In all honesty, Juma did have a fairly clean track record before that incident and even though he expressed unsavory opinion, I do not think he should have faced the firing squad while others, and who have done it repeatedly , roam free! He should have been chastised, criticised, and made to feel ignorant for those views but not get banned for what others have yet to face retribution for. I urge the moderators/Admin to reconsider their decision and realize that while they might be biased on discussions going on here, they should not be biased in carrying out their duties. That is but a friendly suggestion. Yenicer- It has nothing to do with "Puntlandization" or "Yeyism" and to think in those terms is to indulge in conspiracy theories. Not healthy. I pitied Juma for thinking along those terms too, but not necessarily get banned for them.
  18. Let Jumatatu back in. Even though I personally took offense at what he voiced and I can't help but think he crossed the line, I feel he didn't really break any of the rules of the website. There are those who continually used to refer to the capital in negative cannotations on par with Juma yet they are still here. Fair is fair, let him back in and take that as a plea.
  19. Dayniile is a tabloid. Everything written there is to garner reaction sxb.
  20. War Jumatatu halkee buu ka baxay? I remember Juma voicing unsavory opinion but nothing that could have been deemed worse then alot of what present nomads have said. With that said: Where is the nomad?
