^Morgan's former properties in Muqdisho being relinquished to him was a news item a while back. So I don't think all the Somali news outlets are conniving and partisan but, in the absence of Somali journalistic ethics, it is the responsibility of the reader to filter the fair and balanced from the non-fair and non-balanced. Anyhow, any person who accuses the courts of tribalism is downright lying and has other motives. The courts were attacked because of tribalism and they defended themselves because of Islam. Qolyahan wadaaddada ah hadii qabiil ayeey u dhasheen lagu qoonsanayo, dambina looga dhigayo, iyadoo wanaaga ay nidirsadeen inkiraad looga baxayo; qof damacsadey inuu xumaanta ka shaqeeyo sidaa sameeya. ^I know you're not, and that is why I am not taking it as an attack. However, confusion has nothing to do with it sxb. It's called correct assessment and accurate and sound judgement. -

General Duke, you and George Dubya share a very great characteristic; the inability to recognize your faults and admit them. It is why Bush is facing mutiny not only from the Democrates but also from his Republican base! As a Somali who supports the unity of the nation there is no room for Ethiopia in my psyche. I am not "attacking" you Duke, but with all due respect, that is outright hypocrisy. -
Philippines president declares emergency amid coup fears AP Published: 24 February 2006 President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo declared a state of emergency in the Philippines today as she struggled with a reported coup plot and a possible repeat of the popular revolts that ousted two of her predecessors. Clashes erupted as police used water cannons to disperse about 5,000 protesters defying a ban on rallying at a shrine to the 1986 "people power" uprising that toppled dictator Ferdinand Marcos. The military barricaded its camps to keep troops from joining the demonstrations and detained an army general allegedly involved in the takeover plot. Commemorations of the 20th anniversary of "people power" were cancelled, presidential spokesman Ignacio Bunye said, adding that the military had been ordered "to prevent and suppress lawless violence". Arroyo, who survived two earlier coup attempts, said the political opposition, along with both the extreme left and the extreme right, was determined to bring down the elected government. "I am declaring a state of emergency because of the clear threat to the nation," a defiant Arroyo said in a taped, nationally-televised statement. "This is my warning against those who threaten the government: the whole weight of the law will fall on your treason. You are unhinging the economy from its strengthening pillars." She claimed the military had quashed a coup plot by some military officers and their men. The military has played strong roles in the two "people power" revolts and has a recent history of restiveness. "There were a few who tried to break from the armed forces chain of command, to fight the civilian government and establish a regime outside the constitution. We crushed this attempt. "As commander in chief, I control the situation," said Arroyo, who held a pre-dawn emergency meeting of her national security council as the crisis threatened to spiral out of control. "My countrymen, I ask all of you to remain calm." She stopped short of declaring martial law, a sensitive issue in a country where Marcos used it to rule by decree. Her chief of staff, Mike Defensor, said the declaration would not include a curfew but banned rallies, allowed arrest without a warrant, permitted the president to call in the military to intervene and let her take over facilities - including media outlets - that might affect national security. The opposition railed against the declaration, saying it showed the government's desperation. "It could result in more political haemorrhage and security risk," said Roilo Golez, Arroyo's former national security adviser who withdrew his support. "This could get out of control ... if her crisis team doesn't manage this well." Teodoro Casino, a left-wing leader, called the declaration "draconian" and said it was evidence that the government was headed towards "iron-handed rule". "This could lead to a crackdown ... against the opposition forces even if they're not engaged in any illegal activity," said Casino, who said anti-Arroyo protests would not end. The Philippine stock market and the peso both plunged after the declaration. US State Department spokeswoman Janelle Hironimus said: "We are monitoring the situation carefully. We firmly support the rule of law and constitutional government. Violence should be avoided." Military chiefs said they backed Arroyo. They arrested an army general, who leads an elite special forces unit, for alleged involvement in a coup plot and ensured that a marine colonel was in his barracks. An unspecified number of other people also were taken into custody, and police were seeking more, said Defensor. Already-tight security was bolstered in the capital. The government cancelled rally permits and told schools to cancel classes, aiming to keep the opposition from exploiting the scheduled demonstrations commemorating the 20th anniversary of the peaceful revolt that ousted Marcos. Extra barbed wire and shipping containers were set up on roads leading to Malacanang, the presidential palace, and only essential staff were allowed in. Checkpoints appeared around the capital. The media was barred from the main military headquarters, Camp Aguinaldo, where reinforcements arrived in eight armoured personnel carriers. An armoured carrier sat outside the marines' camp, with a truckload of marines in full battle gear nearby. Army chief Lt Gen Hermogenes Esperon has said 14 junior officers were identified as being involved in a plot that included establishing a revolutionary government after Arroyo was forcibly removed and abolishing "democratic institutions". Arroyo - who succeeded Estrada in January 2001 - survived three impeachment bids in September, when her dominant allies in the House of Representatives used a technicality to block complaints of alleged massive corruption and vote-rigging. Opposition groups have continued to call for her resignation. The biggest set up: Is this new war to destroy Somalia??

Like I've said sxb: The fight is just starting to turn tribal because most of the composition of the court's militias are of one clan. You know it and I know it. The fight was not tribal nor tribally motivated, and if partially turns that way now then that is because of most of the composition of the court's militias who most likely to recieve the largest shares of the death on the court's side. Hiil iyo hoob qabaa'il wee ka heli doonaan and I am sure they have already gotten some support, but I do not doubt for a second those same wadaads of Maxkamadaha Islaamiga, who went to war various times against warlords of their own constituency, will also stand against tribally motivated hijack of the court's agenda. The rise of Somalia's Islamic courts tips balance of power Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) February 23, 2006 Mogadishu - Calm has returned to the Somali capital Mogadishu as people return to their homes after fleeing four days of heavy fighting between a group calling itself Alliance for Restoration of Peace and Counter-Terrorism and the city's hardline Islamic court militias. Following the fighting, the worst in recent years, the two sides are currently in talks aimed at agreeing a ceasefire. Yet many Somalis say that the continuing battle for control of Mogadishu has revealed the Islamic courts to be an increasingly influential power base in a city dominated by rival warlords. The warlords-turned-politicians formed the new alliance to curb the growing power of the brutal but efficient courts, which are currently the only functioning law enforcement agency in the war- scarred city and are widely support by a population tired of conflict. One of the main leaders of the Alliance, Mohammed Qanyare Afrah, who is also a government minister in the transitional government has accused the courts of having links to the al-Qaeda terrorist network and has threatened to capture and hand over the court leaders to US forces. The sharia courts' union is led by a charismatic 45-year-old imam, Sheikh Sharif Ahmed Siyar, a hardliner who was largely unknown in Somali politics until his election to the head of the courts union. Some of the courts' leaders are former members of al-Ittihad al- Islami, a militant Islamist organization thatis listed by the United States as a terrorist organization. Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweis, a former al-Ittihad leader, and currently a leader of the Sharia courts union has repeatedly denied any al-Qaeda link, but makes no secret of the court's ambition to install Islamic rule in Somalia. Some community leaders told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa that while there are militant Islamist leaders within the courts' leadership, they fear that Somalis will baulk at any hint of foreign intervention in its religious affairs. The courts first emerged in the southern part of the city in 1992 as the Islamic disciplinary unit that amputated the right hand of a 20-year-old youth accused of stealing. It has since steadily rose in prominence and power, with its brand of rough justice respected by many locals who say it does not discriminate between social status and clan affiliation. The courts' militia of about 1,500 members are reportedly well armed, more disciplined than other militias and their numbers are periodically bolstered by fighters of warlords who agree with the courts' faith-based political agenda. Last year the courts raided film dubbing studios, after banning the watching of movies during the holy month of Ramadan, calling them immoral. Mogadishu has a thriving business of more than 800 video kiosks where the city's residents can watch mainly action flicks for a small fee. Meanwhile, rival factions of President Abdulahi Yusuf Ahmed's transitional government are preparing for the first parliamentary session on Somali soil since the divided administration was formed in Nairobi, Kenya in 2004. It is widely expected that the emergence of the Islamic courts as a political and military force will be high on the agenda at Sunday's scheduled meeting, where all 270 legislators are expected to convene together with representatives from the international community. The row between the president, interim Prime Minister Ali Mohamed Gedi and parliament speaker Sharif Hassan has paralysed the fledgling administration, prompting two rival government bases - one in Mogadishu led by Hassan, and one in Jowhar 90 kilometres from the capital, where President Ahmed has been holed up. ^No sxb, you wanted it to be a tribal war from the beginning. Fact is the fight in the beginning was a war between the Islamic Courts and the warlords including their south Muqdisho financers. This was not a tribal war nor was it a tribally motivated war. You, however, wanted to be because (1.) you do not like any warlords based out of Baidoa and (2.) have been extrememly apathetic and hostile to the wadaads who are anti lax-Muslims. This is in your case a win-win situation is it not? Ha is baaba'shaan right? But you cannot sit back and allow the wadaads to fight as saviors when you do not agree with their cowra-covering agenda right? Brand both of them as evil you say! The one that has continuesly molested the inhabitants of Muqdisho along with the ones who brought some semblance of peace and order, kala dambayn iyo maamul. Fact is you were alleging happenings that were contrary to the truth. Indhacade and Seeraar miyaan kala jeclahay? Maanse dad kale ka jeclahay? Miyeese iitaal wax allo ku dhaco? Laa, and I could stand before and say with complete honesty, I do not give a fig about Indhacade nor Seeraar. However that is not to say I was not surprised you were alleging false information and with complete show of daacadnimo. Seeraar has not sent soldiers and nor is Indhacade participating, and if they are, then that is way after you have been alleging that false information. The fight is just starting to turn tribal because most of the composition of the court's militias are of one clan. You know it and I know it. The fight was not tribal nor tribally motivated, and if partially turns that way now then that is because of most of the composition of the court's militias who most likely to recieve the largest shares of the death on the court's side. Marka sxb, with all due respect, been abuurkana daa, beentana daa, ileen ninkii waxaa tahay warlordska ilaayo iminka dad dhibaatada ku haye ka dooran waayey wadaadada Islaamka oonan xaq maahe waxkale u taagnayn. Aduunyaad ku nooshahay, "surwaal-gaab" meel hakaa saarto. -
