Caabud-Waaq: Local Clans take over/Clan Courts control it?
Gabbal replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
Che, why is our country in a civil war? Who has been killing whom until this moment? Who has been disagreeing for 16 years? Why has each group gone back to their constituency? These are critical questions one needs to employ when trying to analyze a situation like this. Do you really know how to deal with Somalis? Has any good come from Somalis for the last 16 years? I do not even classify the "Union of Islamic Courts" into one group because of that. Some are real religious men concerned about the reconciliation of the land in the name of Islam while others are very visible clan opportunists whose hypocrisy knows no bounds! Some are god-fearing people of the land who wish to change the dynamics of their kins and deegaans while other are occupying forces who get off a good high being on other clan lands they could not possibly have been on and see this as some sort of "triumph". Can the ICU build an administration for Benaadir Region without going down the path of USC's disintegration? Can the ICU treat all Somalis with fairness and equality instead of treating them different and giving some more benefits and powers then others? Is the ICU a Somali-wide institution that sat down with all other Somalis or an occupying force themselves who oppress people with the number of imported guns they possess? You decide, you answer, then try to persuade me to the cause. -

Caabud-Waaq: Local Clans take over/Clan Courts control it?

I think the neutrality of Caabudwaaq and its members nationally hurt her this time. These people are about force, absolutely no respect towards neutrality. I am more surprised about the men of Caabudwaaq that legitimately brought the battle zone that reer Caabudwaaq do not deserve and did not call for to their own homes. Cago-weyne will go back to his house soon, where will they go back? Who will they live among the rest of their lives? Cago-weyn iyo xulafadiisa malagoodee soo doonteen. -
Caabud-Waaq: Local Clans take over/Clan Courts control it?
Gabbal replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
Duke- Over 60 odayaal dhaqameed led by Suldaan Saciid Shoobare have met with the Courts and told them to leave because they do not want a fight in their city, do not want hostilities, do not want anything that can disrupt the peace and security of their city. The old men then took members of their own respective sub-clans and kidnapped (literally) any members of their subclan that were walking around or seen in Caabudwaaq that were members of the Courts. That is when the ICU army led by Cagoweyn set in. My last update was the tension is so high, the women and children where being evacuated from the city. Calls in the street were any clash that starts in Caabudwaaq will finish in the streets of Cadaado and Dhuusa-mareb. The audacity of the Courts is so amazing. They are telling the people of the deegaan to "jooga, axmaarada guryahiina ka cesheda" meaning we came to Caabudwaaq to get forced support because of problems that occured during our earlier sabre-rattling. -
Sharif Ahmed: we want to talk to Ethiopia how things change..
Gabbal replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
I also thought it was interesting. On another note, the Courts yesterday declared they are not on a quest for the constitution of the five Somali territories after even the most senior of them, Hassan Dahir, have said on multiple occasions that they indeed are after them just because the United States called for the lifting of the arms embargo. A religious man is above dunya and deciding your positions on the whims of it. -

Xog Ogaal, the only thing I am against is blood being spilt. If they agree on a Maxkamad, I will welcome their position and if they oppose it, I will welcome it as long as it safeguards the bloods of innocent. I know what war is like in Caabudwaaq adeer. The repercussions will last for centuries once that pandora's box is closed. There is nothing more that can be brought to Caabudwaaq in the cases of peace and security that it doesn't already have. Ironic as it maybe, this is the greatest threat to long-term conflict of the area.
-
Xog Ogaal, you don't listen well. That is precisely why there was no fight, no rukus, no problems because these are sons of the city everyone knows and is not in any way threatened by. That is why they were welcomed even though their position is not accepted despite various news sources using this as a political triumph, the normal acceptance of sons to their own city. It is alarming how the tension is rising because of the connection of these boys to the political hand behind them. Some of the more known elders have threatened to welcome Ethiopians into the city if the entity uses this as an excuse to fully enter the territory under the banner "dadka deegaankaa noo yeeray".
-
Why do you think they have settled in the outskirts and not in the city? These are just a dozen men from the same sub-sub-sub clan and even their own elders told them to move their weapons out of the city to safeguard the peace. Ciidamadaan iyo waxaa la sheegayo waa buunbuunin, Maxkamadaha Dhuusa-mareeb ayee joogaan mana imaan karaan Caabudwaaq mana tagi karayaan inay fitno dadku ka dhex abuuraan maahe.

Seattle convict who espoused radical views flees to Somalia By GENE JOHNSON AP LEGAL AFFAIRS WRITER SEATTLE -- A south Seattle barbershop worker who allegedly espoused radical Islamic views fled to Somalia rather than show up in federal court to be sentenced on gun and counterfeiting charges. "He decided he liked his chances better elsewhere," Assistant U.S. Attorney William Redkey said after Tuesday's sentencing was put off. "It's always a concern when someone who has espoused radical ideas heads to a place like Somalia, of course." Ruben Shumpert helped run Crescent Cuts barber shop in Seattle's Rainier Valley, according to documents filed in U.S. District Court. He was arrested two years ago and charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, following an FBI investigation into activities at the shop. He was accused of providing a gun to one person and giving $700 to another for the purpose of buying a gun. Redkey said he isn't sure when Shumpert fled. He was last in court on Sept. 20, when he appeared on bond to plead guilty to the weapons charge and to transferring counterfeit currency. He entered the pleas in exchange for a recommended sentence of 24 to 30 months. Shumpert's lawyer, James Vonasch, said the government told him only that his client had left the country. He didn't know until contacted by The Associated Press that Shumpert had gone to Somalia - a war-wracked East African country that's considerably less safe than federal prison. "He hasn't been checking in with his lawyer," Vonasch said. "That is a horrible place to go to." Vonasch also said that Shumpert claims to speak some Arabic, and that an FBI agent who worked the case got a call from him within the past two weeks. "The agent implied it was an unpleasant conversation, but he didn't supply me with the details," Vonasch said. Vonasch said Shumpert's wife and two young children are still in Seattle. The FBI questioned the wife about Shumpert's whereabouts, he said. The FBI's investigation into the barbershop relied on paid informants who told agents that Shumpert and other men who would meet at the shop often spoke in bellicose anti-American terms. Eventually, agents determined that they were "unable or unwilling to engage in acts of terrorism," according to court documents. Some - including Shumpert - were indicted on non-terrorism-related charges, such as document fraud and firearms violations. Among the items removed from the barbershop were "jihad motivational DVDs," prosecutors wrote in a sentencing memorandum last July. "If youngsters came in to play video games he would encourage them first to view the motivational DVDs," they wrote of Shumpert. "The subject matter of the DVDs included a glowing tribute to the '19 Martyrs,' referring to the 9/11 terrorists." Shumpert, who has previous state convictions on weapons and assault charges, denied being a radical. In a 12-page, neatly handwritten letter to the judge this summer, he said he wanted to take responsibility for his crimes, and credited Islam with turning him from a life of theft and drug-dealing. But he also criticized the FBI's reliance on paid informants who first befriended him and then begged him to get them guns and counterfeit money. "Has there ever been any (news) stories that show how these sort of FBI investigations have torn apart whole communities with false allegations and entrapment?" he wrote. "I ask you please, don't let them throw us away in the system so easily." Vonasch said it appeared likely that the judge might give a longer sentence than the 24-30 month recommendation; she rejected a previous plea agreement that would have made that sentencing range binding on the court. Somalia has not had an effective government since 1991, when warlords overthrew a dictator and then turned on each other. The current administration was formed with the help of the United Nations two years ago, but it has failed to assert any real control outside the southern town of Baidoa, where it is based. Duke, this report also contained some of the facts. Xasan Bulxan oo jooga magaalada Cabudwaaq ayaa u xaqiijiyay shabakada wararka Halgan in ciidamada soo gaaray magaalada ay yihiin dhalinyaro ka soo jeeda deegaanka xiisad yar ay ka jirto magaalada kadib markii dhalinyaradaasi ay sheegeen in maxkamad islaami ah ay ka furayaan, ayadoo taasina ay ka soo horjeesteen sida uu sheegay odayaasha dhaqanka si aaney halkaasi rabshado uga dhicin. For whatever reason, both Ugaas Ciise and former ambassador Cabdi Shire Warsame, Barre Hiiraale's uncle, both made an unexpected and immediate surprise visit to the city. We wait to see what happens.
