What is troubling is that there are some so unprincipled now our women's purity is a source for propaganda also! I find this repulsive and truly embarrassing for those of Somalis with principle as well as those non-Somalis reading the site. There are no secrets in Somalia and every clan has a news site on the net. A single rape would not have escaped the eyes of the populace so how gang rapes are taking place is beyond me!

Gov't: Somali Warlords Agree to Disarm Jan 12, 8:58 AM EST By MOHAMED OLAD HASSAN Associated Press Writer MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) -- Somalia's warlords have agreed to disarm and join a new national army, a government official said Friday as violence in the capital brought home the challenge of restoring order in this fractious and heavily armed country. The announcement followed a meeting between President Abdullahi Yusuf and clan warlords that proceeded even as clan gunmen outside fired a rocket-propelled grenade and briefly exchanged gunfire with government troops. The fighting, which one fighter said was sparked by a dispute over where to park an armored car, left at least six people dead and 10 wounded. "The warlords and the government have agreed to collaborate for the restoration of peace in Somalia," said Abdirahman Dinari, the government spokesman. Dinari said the president had met with three top Somali warlords and two other faction leaders. "The agreement means they have to disarm their militia and their men have to join the national army," Dinari told The Associated Press. The rout of the Islamic fundamentalist movement, which had controlled much of Somalia for the past six months, by Somali government troops and Ethiopian soldiers has allowed the country's weak U.N.-backed transitional government to enter the capital for the first time since it was established in 2004. Besides clan divisions, resentment of Ethiopia's intervention and remnants of the Islamic movement also were likely to bedevil the government for some time to come. There are believed to be about 20,000 militiamen in Somalia and the country is awash with guns. Rival clan fighting and warlords already have been the undoing of 13 other attempts at government in Somalia since the country collapsed into chaos in 1991. One of Somalia's most powerful warlords, Mohamed Qanyare Afrah, told the AP after the meeting that the warlords were "fed up" with guns and ready to cooperate with the government. However, another warlord spelled out a warning. "If the government is ready to reconcile its people and chooses the right leadership, I hope there is no need to revolt against it," said Muse Sudi Yalahow, whose fighters control north Mogadishu. "If they fail and lose the confidence of the people, I think they would be called new warlords." So far, no government on the continent has responded to a call for 8,000 African peacekeepers to stop Somalia from returning to clan-based violence and anarchy, although Uganda has indicated it is willing to deploy 1,500 peacekeepers as part of a wider mission. Late Thursday, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged the international community to redouble efforts to stabilize Somalia and reiterated his concern that U.S. attacks were harming civilians and could have "unintended consequences." Ethiopian and U.S. forces were in pursuit of three top al-Qaida suspects believed to be in Somalia. The U.S. has repeatedly accused the Somali Islamic fundamentalist movement of harboring the suspects, wanted in connection with the 1998 U.S. Embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania. Michael E. Ranneberger, the U.S. ambassador to Kenya, said there had been only one U.S. airstrike and no civilians were injured. Recent air attacks against the fleeing Islamic movement have killed 70 nomadic herdsmen in the last four days, the British charity Oxfam said Friday, citing its local Somali partner organizations. It said the deaths occurred near Afmadow, about 220 miles southwest of Mogadishu. In one attack, the nomads were gathering around a fire when they were hit, Oxfam said. It did not say who was behind the bombing or when it occurred. Somalia has not had a functioning government since clan-based warlords toppled dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991 and then turned on each other, sinking the Horn of Africa nation of 7 million people into chaos. Ethiopia sent troops in on Dec. 24 to attack the Somali Islamic fundamentalist movement. Most of the Islamic militiamen have dispersed, but a few hardcore members have fled south toward the Kenyan border and the Indian Ocean, and others in hiding in the capital have threatened to wage guerrilla war.

Explosion At U.S. Embassy In Athens Greek Police Official Says Blast Was "Act Of Terrorism" (CBS/AP) Authorities say streets around the United States Embassy compound in Athens have been cordoned off after an apparent explosion inside the embassy building. State-run NET television in Greece, quoting eyewitness reports, say the noise was heard inside the main embassy building. Officials in Greece say there are indications the apparent blast was caused by a rocket. "This is an act of terrorism. We don't know where from. There was a shell that exploded in the toilets of the building... It was fired from street level," said Asimakis Golfis, chief of police for the Attica peninsula on which Athens is located. Authorities searching for the source of the shell are scouring nearby apartment buildings and a hospital. The blast smashed glass in the front of the building, near the U.S. emblem of the embassy. "I heard a loud bang I didn't realize what was going on," said Giorgos Yiannoulis, who runs a kiosk near the embassy. The U.S. diplomatic compound is located on a main street in Athens and has in the past been the site of demonstrations and protests, at least one of them aimed at the Bush administration. "The causes of the noise at the embassy is being investigated," police said in a statement. Traffic came to a standstill across parts of central Athens, as police and emergency services scrambled to the embassy building. U.S. Embassy spokeswoman Angela Brown tells CBS News that the ambassador was not in the building at the time of the incident, and there have been no injuries. The Embassy has been under construction – the building of an addition – but there is no indication yet on whether the explosion had anything to do with that project. In Washington, State Department spokesman Curtis Cooper issued a statement saying that an "explosion occurred at 6 a.m. local time" and the building will be closed for the day as a result. Xiin- First thank you for clarifying yourself. As you can glean from my own contributions, I very much share the stance with you of protecting our religiously learned man while at the same time getting rid of all foreign interference in our land. I just cannot, however, comprehend what a withdrawal of Ethiopian forces at the moment will bring to Somalia that can be deemed positive. We are both aware that there is a very serious and apparent power vacuum brother! My divergence with you is based on this; the Ethiopians are already here. Whatever argument that can arise about their legitimacy to be in Somalia is scratched, it is null and void because they are already here and they are also, for a large part, preventing the tantalizing power vacuum from turning into a full-fledged void and a relapse into pre-ICU anarchy. What the Somalis need to is take advantage of this opportunity that they do not fear each other based on reprisals emanating from clan prowess basis and find a way to communicate with each other so they can finally get to the root cause of the empasse and become healed by it as a nation and a state. I feel that there is nothing better to bring that about then our most mortal enemy, the Ethiopian of all people, not only in Somalia, but in the Somali Nation's capital as well. Already some developments that could never been dreamed of have taken place. A president since 1991 is sitting in Villa Somalia, grass-roots support by way of clan elders is being garnered, old presidential hopefuls wiser because of their own disappointments are signaling readiness to move forward, dialogue is being engineered and the need for communication is being realized. With all due respect, I think this matters more than the disturbances of few youth with an understandable fear of the future! After all, this is a transitional period and the TFG is a transitional administration. I did not want Ethiopians in Somalia (though their being in border regions seems to have been acceptable to most Somalis), I do not want them there in the future, but at the same time I realize the need for them to be here in the present. Let us hate the occupation of our country, but instead of being irrational and stuck on the present, let us address the root cause of the quagmire and make sure it never happens again. After all, what better opportunity then when we can be united by the occupation of our longterm anti-Islam enemy and when the situation is so far removed from our hands we do not militarily fear each other?
