This place is being flooded with repetitive topics. But, I don’t mind revisiting or re-discussing important subjects like cultural and social issues. Do you remember the thread about a book written by Waris Dirie (the Somali model) on female genital mutilation? On that thread, the first subject ever posted about FGM, there was not much discussion about the subject at all. Instead the majority of the SOL members (at that time) attacked Weris’s character, her marriage and even the way she wore her GARBISAAR totally missing the importance of the subject at hand. I would like that thread reposted so to see what the now so matured and seasoned member would take on the subject. I would also like to see the thread about the Somali single mothers in Diasporas. Again our beloved SOL members, especially men, had a field on this subject. Name callings like: used goods, baggage and damaged welfare grabber, were used in describing the pillar of our Somali society- our beloved single mothers- and the girls watched these abuses from back ground. I wonder what they (the SOL members) think about single mothers now! I am just curious! Other than those I don’t like repetition at all. Certainly not Muhram again salaama

Lucky, Here how u can display Suuro and become Suuraley. Go to the washroom and do the following in front of the mirror: Stand up right, lifting your shoulder (relax!) Now close your mouth and lift your eyebrows while opening your eyes wide. Walk around your house and see what reaction you get! It is some form of Suuro known to Somali women. Get it! Sorry about your Magaca. I corrected it.

Dear beloved nomads, these are your future leaders at work to lead our country! Somalia negotiators engage in fist-cuffs By Samwel Kumba & Bernard Momanyi THERE was drama at a Five Star Hotel in Nairobi yesterday evening when two senior delegates to the on-going Somali Peace Talks engaged in a physical fight, posing a major security threat. The two had disagreed on the mode of conducting a closed-door meeting which was being held in one of the rooms at the hotel. The delegates who clashed were identified as the chairman of the Somali Patriotic Movement Ahmed Mahed Lohos and the chairman of the United Somali Congress who also heads Group Eight in the Somali Reconciliation and Resolution Conference Mr Mahed Qanyare Afrah. Mr Afrah sustained lip injuries when his opponent hit him with a rungu (club). Visitors checking in and out of the hotel and others who had been booked in watched in disbelief as the two delegates, both of them leaders of the on-going talks, came to blows. Efforts by their fellow delegates to separate the two proved futile as they ran up and down with rungus as the fight went on. There was confusion in the entire hotel as the delegates fought vigorously at the entrance into a room in which the closed-door talks were being held. It took the intervention of police officers from Central Police station who calm the situation by arresting the two. Attempts by the two to defy police arrest failed and were arrested and whisked them away. They were bundled into a taxi which sped off to Central Police Station. A police source confirmed to the Kenya Times that two other delegates were later picked up from the hotel. Source: Kenya Times http://www.hiiraan.ca/2003/dec03/news_dec22.htm

May be she is trying to teach him a lesson for she knows that somali(men)have two rules: one rule for xaliimos and another rule for faaraxs. if any rules broken, xaliimos are presumed guiltier than faaraxs. I think this is what this article conveys huh! at least that's my opinion.

Here we go again, another Muslim advertising another tool (a book) to bash Islam. I guess we did not learn any lessons from Salam Rushdi’s book and Khumeni’s blunder! Jazeera, I ask, I know what her motive is (money and hurt Islam), what is yours? Sell more books for her? Shame! This article is nothing but an advertisement of this book and you have an audacity to put it on this supposedly Muslim forum. If I were you, I would pull this advertisement!. I wonder how many Bambinas out there ready to buy this book for enlightenment in Islam and in turn make this womam richer? salaama

An aeroplane is flying over the United States at night. The pilot says "Ladies and Gentlemen, the plane is losing altitude and all the baggage must be thrown out! A little later, the pilot says "We're still losing altitude, we must throw out every thing in the cabin". Despite more things being thrown out the plane continues its descent. (Pilot) "Still going down - we must throw out some people". There's a big gasp from the passengers! (Pilot) "But to make this fair passengers will be thrown out in alphabetical order...so A.... any Africans on board?" No one moves. (Pilot) "B...any Blacks on board?" No one moves. (Pilot) "C....any Caribbeans on board?" Still no one moves. (a little black boy - asked his dad) "Dad,... what are we?" (Dad) "Tonight son, we are Zulus!"

originally posted by shukri Does that mean that it is acceptable to travel on your own  Nur, I'm still waiting for you to try and answer my lil questions [/QB] Abaayo, here also what I found. It may shed a light on what is asking for: Title of Fatwa: Women Traveling without Mahram Date of Fatwa: 31/ March/ 2003 Date of Reply: 31/ March/ 2003 Topic Of Fatwa: The Travel Of A Woman Without A Mahram Question of Fatwa: Dear scholars, As-Salamu `alaykum. What are the rulings concerning the woman’s taking permission of the husband if she wants to leave the house and her traveling without a Mahram (husband or close male relative)? Jazakum Allah khayran. Name of Mufti: European Council for Fatwa and Research Content of Reply: Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful. All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger. Dear questioner, we would like to thank you for the great confidence you place in us, and we implore Allah Almighty to help us serve His cause and render our work for His sake. Islam cares for the dignity and honor of woman. Because of her weakness and vulnerability to being targeted by vile men, Islam is keen to close the doors to such situations by insisting that a woman should not travel long distances or stay away from home by herself unless she has taken adequate safeguards in order to ensure her own protection. Answering your question, the European Council for Fatwa and Research states: “1. The ruling concerning the woman’s taking permission on leaving home: It is incumbent on the woman to inform her husband when she wants to go outside her home. However, the woman’s leaving her house to work, study or run errands for the home and the children does not require but a general consent on the part of the husband, and the wife does not have to ask permission every time. The matter is subject to common tradition. If the wife’s going out of the house is to visit a family not known to the husband, or if her going out entails staying overnight outside the house, the permission of the husband become necessary. If the husband refuses, the woman shall not go out. Muslim morality also requires that the husband should tell his wife if he wants to travel or stay overnight outside the house, for she has the right to know her husband’s whereabouts when he is absent from home. 2. The ruling regarding a woman’s travel without a mahram This is primarily unlawful according to the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): “A woman who believes in Allah and the Hereafter shall not travel for (a period of) a day and a night unless accompanied by a mahram of hers.” (Reported by al-Bukhari and Muslim) Depending on this general text, some scholars are of the opinion that a woman should not travel by herself. Other scholars stipulate that her travel is permissible in the company of a trustworthy group of men or men and women. The prohibition conveyed by the hadith is justified by fearing that the woman may be exposed to mischief or temptation if she travels alone, bearing in mind that the dangers of travel were numerous in the past. Caliph `Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) allowed the Prophet’s wives (Mothers of the Believers) to travel for Hajj with a group of believers and sent with them `Uthman ibn `Affan and `Abdul-Rahman ibn `Auf. In the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to `Adiy ibn Hatim we read: “If you live long, you will see the woman travel from Hirah (a city in Iraq) to circumambulate the Ka`bah fearing none but Allah.” (Reported by al-Bukhari) This confirms that the cause (of the prohibition) is fear (of insecurity). If security is guaranteed and fear is no more present, a woman may travel, particularly nowadays when travel has become easy, whether by air, train or coach. In all these means of transportation, company is available and security is realized for the Muslim woman. This is in respect of the woman’s travel from one town to another or from one country to another and her arrival on the same day of her travel, whereupon she finds company providing security. If the journey requires staying overnight in a hotel on the way, or the journey is intended to perform a certain task that requires residence for a certain period, the woman, in this case, is supposed primarily to travel with a mahram of hers, or reside for the required period with a Muslim family in that country to avoid the likelihood of temptation or mischief the woman may face. Finally, the Council urges parents to bring up their daughters and the husbands to educate their wives according to the guidance of Allah, for a Muslim woman will certainly follow the guidance of Allah steadfastly if she has received her due amount of education and instruction and has learned the rulings and rules of Shari`ah and has comprehended her religion.” Do keep in touch. If you have any other question, don't hesitate to write to us. Allah Almighty knows best.

originally posted by Og_Moti: Qori xabaalan u are wrong bro, havent u heard the Aayah that says "Laa yamasuhuu ilaa al mudhaharuun" means Al kufar are not allowed to touch the Quran... havent u hear the story of Omar binu Alkhadhab radiyal lah canhu, when he found out his sister became muslim and he went to her house and hit her and when she explained he asked to let her see the Quran and she said go and clean urself before u touch it, all those proves, u still think it is ok for power to hold the Quran? [/QB] Brother Og_Moti, I posted the question to a visiting Islamic scholar from Al-Azhar University, as a follows: Dear scholar, As-Salamu `alayk, Is it appropriate (or permissible) for a Muslim to give the Quran to non-Muslim? If so! What the Ayah, "Laa Yamasuhuu Ilaa Al Mudhaharuun, Tanzilun Min Rabil A’alamin" in Suratul Waqiya mean? Then, there is the story of Omar binu Alkhadhab (radiyal lah canhu) that supports the Ayah above; when he found out that his sister (fatmah) became Muslim. She told him to go and clean himself before she let him touch the Quran. If not! Isn’t Qur’an a universal message of Allah, open to any human (Muslim or non-Muslim) who wants to learn or explore its message? After all, how would the message of Allah reach the world if we censer it? The response: Salamou Alikom my dear brother, First there is a famous question about the meaning of "Mataharoun": Is it the person who has Wodu' against the person who does not? Or is it the person who purified himself from "Al-Hadath Al-Akbar" (such as intercourse, women period and etc)? against who are not? Or is it the Muslim against the non-Muslim? The Ayah absorbed all these opinions and views. What we feel comfortable about, the meaning of Taharah in this ayah is the Taharah of the soul (Iman). And there is not conflict between all this and that Quran came for all mankind. That is because; the display of thoughts which are in Quran does not necessarily require touching the Mos-haf (Quran). Also, we do not forbid giving the Quran to one who is from people of the book who respects it, and understand the value of its content. This is with the intention of calling him to Islam and guiding him to Allah. The Daleel (proof) of this is, what arrived to us from the authenticated hadeeth books, that the prophet Mohammed (PBUH) spoke of the people of the book through letters with Ayah the he wrote to them in these letters. Which means that the "HORMAH" forbidding is not absolute. If then a question is raised of how about what Fatima did with her brother, we say that this is a individual incidence that does not work as a "Hogah" (a proof), because Omar was angry at that time, and she was afraid from his anger of what he might do with the Moshaf (like doing something bad with it), and he was not a person who associated himself with Allah, so he won't have any respect or understand the value of any Heavenly books. People today are not like that. Therefore, if you have a friend from the people of the book (current Christians are treated as the people of the book), that has desire to read and know what is in Quran, then there is no problem giving him/her the quran -based on what we just said. Wallahu A3lam. Ramadaan kariim to all nomads
