I've learned more languages than you could shake a stick at Who are you telling! A few years back, i took french for three years( and I had what I would call my own personal tutor), and now you cant even get me to ask the basic " get-to-know" you questions(how old r u, where do u live, etc)... When I went to school in Holland, I knew Dutch fairly well( conversationally that is, it was still pretty difficult for me to read and write it for some reason), and now I forgot how to say Hi!! Its getting harder and harder for me to learn languages now too.. When I was younger and went to Somalia, it took less than a few weeks before I nailed it, and i knew the language like the back of my hand...but when i went back a two summers ago , I was mocked, mimicked, looked down upon with my " american accent." The only language I know well is English now. I'm going on my second year of Arabic( but that doesn't look good) and I hope it doesnt take long for me to larn the swahili language( now that I'v gotten another personal tutor)

I dont think its the career that's morally wrong, but the person engaging in ummoral/unethical acts is... How is becoming a lawyer Haraam? If your doing whats right, and youdont let greed drive you, then I dont' see the problem? There are crooked doctors, cops, entrepenuers, but thats doesn't allow you or anyone else to give the whole field a bad name...

I was born here, raised here and benefited from many of the opportunities...So why is it, the blacks, who were forced here aren't able to claim this land the way the whites do. I'm not sure? But that doesn't mean I agree with it. I have my reasons for identifying myself as who I am, and others do too. If the whites feel that they want to call them selves Americans, then I say let them, but the African-Americans should have that right as well.

Do any other sista's have the same problems with shopping for well-fitting clothes? yes, and its gotten to the point where I'm just going to have to go to and get these pants cut up. i shop at the GAP and Express a lot, and thought the pants may fit me well, I can't seem to get them to fit me length-wise. They are either too long,( especially express!!) or capri look-alikes. I have tried to just fold them, but I hate that look. I'm constantly told that I look like I go to high-school, which is a huge turn-off for me. The only pants I find that do trully fit are dress pants, and I bought most of mine from Canadian stores. And i rarely dress up, I'm more of the casuel wearing type... Now on to exercising tips...Though I would love to be petite,I'm not,so I've learned to accept my thick thighs, butt and hips...but what I am starting to get annoyed about is my stomach. I think the main source of my problem is my eating habits, but for some reason I just can't seem to gain the will-power to stop. But it also has something to do with my energy levels. I sleep for than 10 hrs, and I'm not very active. For about a month now, though, I've tried to do 20-30 crunchesa night( cause I want to change to be in my belly area), but instead of seeing any decrease in the size, I've only noticed it getting tighter, which is not what I want! So I guess whatI'm trying to get at is, I would love some exercising techniques that would allow me to have a flat stomach yet again!

Your right garab tuujiye.... with sex on the dominant front in much of our pervasive mediums, it becomes very hard to try and instill our cultural/religious behaviors/habits or what-not. I think boy friend and girl friend relationship has changed so much as the way we had in Somalia. It was more deenia and had some of our beautiful culture. Yes it has, and it wouldn't surprise me any if it were changing back home as well.....One of the differences I have observed is back home, many of the Somali's tend to "date" for the purposes of establishing some sort of "pre-marital" relationship......However, not speaking for everyone, some of us in can notice that living in Western societies, the purposes of dating doesn't really have a specified goal to it....If the couple ends up getting married, its seen more as plus, rather than the intended goal. But this surely doesn't speak for everyone, nor does it for the Somalian example. I think one of the roles as a parent, or other immediate family member, is to make sure we try to explain these differences, and most importantly educate both the cultural aspects and religous aspects on issues like these.

Foreign-Educated Somalis are the source of somali problemes, they send money to somalia so that people there would be able to purchase weapons and cont.. killing.. well, I've never heard of make-up being haraam, but I could be wrong, so Somali-Chick, i would greatly appreciate it if you could try and support that with something.. What ever happened to natural beauty? Has it become extinct like the dino's? but u have to understand that there has been reports that the numbers of young people having sexual intercourse in Somalia has increased...and u surely can't tell them to stop what they're doing. Promoting condom use isnt might not necessarily decrease this epidemic from spreading either... If you look at some of the most hard hit countries( in Africa, of course), you'll realize that they have a wide availability of condoms ( i.e: Sudan, Kenya, South Africa)....and its still rising to this day....what does that tell you? You see, for years people have had this ideology that promoting abstinence and fidelity would turn out to be a failed method...and who were these people making up this ideaologies.....the Western Nations :rolleyes: ....Instead of coming up with strategies to fight this disease that we believe would be more practical...sometimes it might just be better to go back to the religion......Uganda, At one point in time, it was one of the hardest hit nations in africa fighting the epidemic.....but when Musevic( i know thats not how you spell it) and his administration( and religous institutions) came up with the ABC's method( Abstinence, Be faithful, and as a last resort, Condom use), they proved to the world that Education is the best tool when it comes to fighting AIDS.....and you know they did this years before western nations intervened....their HIV/AIDS rates decreased significantly!!..So I totally agree with the Somalian government in banning the sells of condoms....We really need to stop thinking like these western nations..and making them believe that they have the answers to our problems

I didnt even know that this was going on....You can't help but get the feeling that there is some sort of an atheist uprising....rather than being fair and equal to everyone, they're trying to accomodate everyones interest( which i can't help but be a little suspicuous about, b/c i doubt many muslims had a say in this) and when they figured out that these interests just cant be compromised with, they disregard them altogether, and ban any type of religous display!!
