What Culture you are referring to? Coz if there is anything in our culture against the Islamic Teachings that won't make me preserve/defend them. As muslims we should speak about Islamic Culture not a Somali, Arabic or Western culture. We should follow what match our religion and abandon what we took from our ancestors which are away from our religous teachings. Anyway, let us look at the subject from all the angles:- First of all, culture is the customs, folklore,language, art, traditions, heritages, ideas ,,,etc of a particular society. And you cant make sure that you can preserve a culture for hundred years or more. Either it will be ignored/dropped or modified somehow. Besides, common as people coming from a nomadic background, the majority of our people came from the Baadiya (Miyi) , do you think when they moved to the urban cities in Somalia they behaved the same way when they were living in the Miyi. Certainly no, they dropped or changed things. So, we don't have to blame the Somalis living outside Somalia, coz changing the style of your life has nothing to do with being inside/outside Somalia. Iam not defending the youngesters or the adults who are behaving like westerns,but what Iam telling you is that CHANGE is a normal thing in this life. But what matters is whether its for the good or the bad direction. I don't believe that the Somalis inside Somalia who never left Somalia are the same Somali 10 years ago, ofcourse NOT. 2nd , Speaking of taking the others' culture. Now lemme ask you one question Hibo. Some of you might think that the Diric is the national dress or the original dress for the Somalis. I know that we have different clothes in different areas, but the Diric considered the main dress for the Somali women. Do you know that the Diric is not originally Somali, its a Yemeni dress. If you are blaming the Somalis who are living inside the Khaleeji countries for dressing like khaleejis and wear abaya; then why don't you blame the Somalis who are wearing the Diric, common thats Arabic dress too 3rd , Not all the changes in the Somali Culture were bad, some were good some were bad. Now mashallah, Women wear the Jilbaab and its kinda rare to see a woman wearing a Light transparent Diric with a light shalmad in the streets (Talking about my Area, and people here find it strange to see a woman wearing like that). I believe dropping such thing was a great thing. You can wear the diric but don't show your naked body to everybody. I don't mind wearing Arabic dress if its covering my whole body and protecting me and according to the Shari'ah. But I can't question the intentions of all these ladies wearing the Jilbaab or the Abayas whether they are wearing it for the sake of ALlah or just imitating the original residents. Intentions are in the Lord's Hands dear. 4th , We quit many things we used to consider sacred and valued habits; although they were against Islam, but Mashallah when the Somalis realized that they are not matching their religion, they dropped them. I salute and recommend such changes for the better Again, people are not perfect and somalis are people too so we can't expect them to act perfectly. There are the good ones who fear Allah and follow their culture according to the religion and those who are airy people will go with the flow in everything. I dont agree totally with this proverb " When in Rome do what the Romans do", coz I don't believe on that saying @ all. I agree with changing/abandoing the bad things in our culture and keep the good things. And I believe that everyone of us should check him/herself FIRST before asking about others around him. If you are alive then be ready for the blame, if you are dead then I guess you can't handle Double-Blames at same time J/K Anyway, I watched lately a program on TV about Organs Donating and I was totally impressed when I realised that its not Haraam. Imagine how many person will be benefited with one body: Eyes,liver, marrow,bones,kidneys, lungs,,,,etc. My lovely mother who was watching the program with me whose one of the protesters and Anti-Body Donations, she showed me her utter frustration and reject and said: "Acuudo bilahi wala xawla wala qowata ila bellah, nafta ilahay aboortay wa in la akramu uu la aaso after death" (Ok Ok Iam my written Somali is not good, so skip my mistakes and don't embarrase me dudes ). So I guess the majority of the people are still not supporting the body donating; althoughy they know well that they might suffer if it happened and they need an organ (God Forgid). on the contrary, this is aint horrific nor a despise to the Dead person. Its like a charity that gives hope and life to others who cannt survive with their own organs. Besides, this dead's body won't remain in its good shape as it was before it will be eaten by the earth-worms and will be over anyway so let the organs save other humans. Maybe if the people receive more Medical and Islamic awareness about the importance of the organs donating they might hopefully change their minds.

I don't think its a matter of Tragedy or Comedy (Happy things), what attracts people more is the good works coz they were done in a successful and appealing way. "What makes Tragedy appealing, such that people are willing to pay to see them?" People don't pay only for tragic works that contains suffersing,tragedy,agony,heartfeelings and misery; the reality is that people pay for what they believe its amusing or excellent job whether it will make them cry or laugh. I mean watching "Titanic","Gone with the wind", or Shakespeare, Virgina Woolf,Charles Dickens's or Victor Hugo, Jean Paul Sartre works for 10 times won't make the audience happy and fresh. All their jobs are full of negativity/blackness but coz their works were written perfectly & later screened well which makes the audience watch them several times regardless of the tragedy inside these works. There are many plays and books that contains misery,sickness & tragedy but they didn't succeed as Shakespeare's works and didnt attract the audience and nobody paid a neckle for it, why?! Coz they were not written in the same fascinating way of Shakespeare and the succesful authors, that's all. Why the "Les Misérables" by Victor Hugo & "The Crime & Punishment" by Dosetovesky,,etc are still successful after all these years? Coz they expressed the feelings,emotions,ideas of their characters in a wonderful way thats why these works were categorized under the the best great works. At the other hand, there are many other works that attract people which are containing any tragedy like Ian Fleming's "James Bond", Austin Powers, many musical, comic plays, movies & Operahs that I can't recall now. So, bottomline, Tragedy is not always appealing, what really appeals are the Good works by good authors.
