  1. Ethiopia's ONLF rebels say captured seven towns By Barry Malone Saturday, November 14, 2009; 11:20 AM ADDIS ABABA - Ethiopian rebels fighting for independence for a region with potentially significant oil and gas reserves said on Saturday they had captured seven towns near the border with neighboring Somalia. The Ogden National Liberation Front (ONLF) wants autonomy for the ****** region, whose population is ethnic Somali. The area is drawing interest from foreign oil and gas companies who think its deserts might be rich in mineral deposits. "The operation ... to capture Obolka, Hamaro, Higlaaley, Yucub, Galadiid, Boodhaano and Gunogabo involved thousands of ONLF troops and resulted in two days of heavy fighting," the rebels said in a statement. "A significant number of Ethiopian troops have been killed and their military hardware captured or destroyed." Ethiopian government officials were unavailable for comment, but they routinely deny ONLF statements and say the rebels have been defeated. Addis Ababa says the ONLF are "terrorists" supported by regional rival Eritrea. The ONLF accuses the Ethiopian military of killing and raping civilians and burning villages in the region as part of its effort to root out insurgents. The regular accusations from both sides are impossible to verify. Journalists and aid groups cannot move freely in the area without government escorts. The ONLF statement said its fighters had been "warmly welcomed" by residents in the seven towns and were giving treatment to civilians hurt in the fighting. The ****** region is said to contain mineral deposits and international firms including Brazil's Petronas and Sweden's Lundin are exploring its deserts for oil. The ONLF regularly warns foreign companies against prospecting. Ethiopian forces launched an assault against the rebels -- who have been fighting for more than 20 years -- after a 2007 attack on an oil exploration field owned by a subsidiary of Sinopec, China's biggest refiner and petrochemicals producer. The separatist cause has gained momentum due to a low level of development. Until Chinese engineers arrived in the remote region in 2007, the entire area had only 30 km (20 miles) of tarmac road in an area of about 200,000 sq km. (Editing by Charles Dick) WashingtonPost
  2. Somalia will return and there is no doubt about that, it is just a matter of time. We hope it comes back in our life time.
  3. He is nicely saying, Yo laba farood, get out of the way since it has been proven that you can't rule.
  4. Cowke believes what Farole believes; Ethiopia is very strong therefore we should respect it and follow its orders. The funny thing is he keeps using the struggle of the good Palestinians and "how they fail to reach any where with their fight" as example, adeer I am sure if they were fighting with Yuhuudda without direct and indirect support of Mareykanka they would've been free for very long time. Yuhuudda is fully and I mean 100% supported by the US. Why don't you use Eritrea, Tigray, even USC as an example bal?
  5. Raggii tashan waayo waa loo taliyaa now that is exactly what Meles is doing.

  8. Juje, there will be a meeting between Faroole and Sharif in Addis Ababa and the mediator will be Meles, now what is your response to that?
  9. Zenawi told both Sharif and Farole to come to his office so he can get this straight for them . This happened after Faroole walked out of the meeting he had with Sharif in Nairobi. I will share the source once it is officially available.
  10. Not that I am saying ONLF's strategy is close to perfection but speaking from what I have personally seen in that region, the Ethiopians are definitely feeling the pain. Trust me there is a fire in their hearts. The ONLF doesn't control any bigger city but they are indeed keeping the xabashis feel very insecure in that region. Do you think that the Xabashis are burning small towns for fun? Or do you believe that they keep messing with the general Somali politics just because they love to do so? I will give a very good example, if an Ethiopian military vehicle needs to travel from Qabridahar to Shilabo, a dispatch is made to ten other fully loaded vehicles to help that one vehicle move to its destination. Even so, they are still attacked. Trust me sxb the xabashis are not enjoying in their occupation of that region. They barely control the bigger cities but they are not in peace. Keep in mind these guys have the "strongest" military in the horn and it will take time to kick them out but they will be kicked out. As far as your last sentence, if you are referring to committing suicide bombings in the Xabashi's heartland cities, that is not something the ONLF intends to do. If you were referring attacking those cities in a different way, that sounds good idea.
  11. Red Sea, while your overall advice is appreciated I don't believe building a "bridge" in the Somali community is something that ONLF needs to worry about for now. The so called Somali Community need to see the bigger picture and stop focusing on a little things i.e. this clan and that clan, they need to recognize who their real enemy is. If the Somali "community" could make any difference at all we would have seen it in the south. Majority (like you would say) in the Western Somalia are happy with the way things are being handled by the ONLF.
  12. ^LOL it was a typo. That old fella aint a SHE.
  13. Let that Mexican-hating red neck leave the cable news network! He should have been fired long time ago.
  14. Haddii xitaa waqooyi galbeed cod laga qaado wali codka waxu u badan in la ahaado Soomaali-Weyn. Awdal, Sool and Sanaag will all vote for Somali-Weyn.
  15. Originally posted by Dabshid: This is a joke, the whole place is run by Ethiopians, Is this the face saving tactic? Sounds similar to the story AT&T posted here. I agree with you, Dabshid, the whole place is under Xabashi control. Anybody that denies that is either in a deep sleep or totally ignorant of how things are done in the Somali peninsula.

  17. ONLF Condemns Puntland Administration for killing ****** civilian The Puntland Administration detained five ****** Somali civilians in Bassaso, who were travelling from Yemen to ****** on 18th October 2009. Both the Puntland militia and Ethiopian Security extensively tortured the detainees and then one of the detainees was abducted and taken to a prison in Harar. On November 2 2009, one of the prisoners in Bossaso died of internal wounds sustained during the extensive torture subjected to him. This ill will towards ****** Somali people has being going on for a while in Puntland. On different occasions, the Puntland Administration had put in harm's way civilians as ONLF members in violation of international law and customary laws among the Somali people. The ****** Somali people have a right to wage a legitimate struggle to attain their rights from the Ethiopian regime, which is marginalizing and committing war crimes against them. Such cowardly acts by the likes of the Puntland administration will not deter the will of the ****** Somalis to attain their self-determinations and basic Human Rights. The ****** National Liberation Front and the ****** Somali people on those occasions had opted for restrain and dialogue in order to convince Puntland to act in a civilized manner and respect the right of the ****** people. Unfortunately, the Puntland Administration instead of mending its wayward ways, it further escalated its crimes by not only killing and torturing ****** civilians but publicly declaring its ill intentions towards the ****** Somalis. Henceforth the ****** National Liberation Front will take all measures necessary to protect the lives and interests of the ****** Somali people while the Puntland Administration will be responsible for any dire consequences of its criminal acts. 18. Waranle, I know Dayniile is a district in Somalia I was referring to the site and its writers. And like I said before I do agree there are many clan Somali sites that spread clan hatred but I was just wondering why we would defend a clanist site or we would say "hey talk about allpuntland, too. It is bad website, too".
  19. ^While it is true that it is not wise to make fun of someone's looks I still don't see the reason why we should defend a clan domain name.
  20. Waranle, We all know there are many crappy clan sites but we are now making fun of specific one, is that a problem?
  21. Hargeisa larger than Mogadishu? It is like saying Minneapolis is larger than New York LOL.
