Swiss Freeze Gadhafi's Assets ZURICH—The Swiss government ordered the country's banks to block any assets belonging to the regime of Col. Moammar Gadhafi, marking Bern's fourth such freeze in the last month involving assets that may belong to African and Middle Eastern leaders. The freeze takes immediate effect and lasts for three years. It is designed to give the banks time to search for any deposits by Col. Gadhafi, members of his family and certain government ministers. The blocking order includes real estate and luxury goods and covers 29 people, including Col. Gadhafi's wife and children, a number of relatives of his wife and six government officials. Switzerland, long considered a safe haven for illicit assets deposited by corrupt leaders and strongmen, has moved swiftly over the last month to block assets of leaders of the Ivory Coast, Tunisia and Egypt. It ordered a freeze of any assets belonging to the regimes of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and former Tunisian President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali, as well as Ivory Coast's Laurent Gbagbo, who has refused to step down after an election which the outside world says he lost. Mr. Gadhafi's regime is believed to have large assets around the world. Libya's sovereign wealth fund, the Libyan Investment Authority, has significant cash and other assets in the U.S. and the U.K., according to a diplomatic cable. The cable, dated Jan. 28, 2010, was made public by document-leaking website WikiLeaks and details discussions between the wealth fund's head and the U.S. ambassador in Tripoli. The wealth fund has $32 billion in cash and several U.S. banks each manage up to $500 million, according to the cable. It added that the fund's primary investments are in London, in banking and residential and commercial real estate. However, it is not clear how much Libyan money remains in Switzerland following a long-running diplomatic spat that started in July 2008 when Swiss police arrested Col. Gadhafi's son, Hannibal, on allegations that he and his wife beat their servants in a luxury Geneva hotel. Authorities later dropped the inquiry, but the arrest set off a bitter dispute in which the Libyan government said it was withdrawing all assets from Swiss banks. Tripoli also arrested two Swiss businessmen on immigration charges and held them for more than a year. During the row, Col. Gadhafi called on the international community to split Switzerland in three and hand the country over to France, Italy and Germany and also declared a holy war on the Alpine nation.

Libya opposition forces continue to capture mercenaries who have arrived by planes from other African countries to carry out Gaddafi’s threat of bloodshed. Some of the mercenaries were sent to Libya by Gaddafi’s long time friend and aid recipient Meles Zenawi, who himself is a genocidal dictator. The following video shows some of the soldiers along with their Ethiopian passports. Click here to see the video

Verizon launched the XOOM today and it is $799.99 with no contract or $599.99 with two year contract. If you are getting it, keep couple of things in mind: It will be only on VZW's 3G network. It doesn't support Micro SD card nor Adobe flash. However, an expected over-the-air software upgrade will change all of that. I played with it before it actually came out, it is the size of Apple's iPad but the thinner edges give it bigger display.

I don't believe he will be the next dictator that will be ousted but I don't think that bribery will save him. Once Ghaddafi is taken care of, the next victims will be Algeria's Bouteflika, Yemen's Salah, and King Hamad of Bahrain.

The King Throws 10.7 BILLION to Saudis Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah has announced a series of benefits for citizens amounting to $10.7 billion, as he returned to the country after he spent three months abroad for health treatment, state television reported. The steps, announced on Wednesday, include funding to offset high inflation and to aid young unemployed people and Saudi citizens studying abroad, as well the writing off some loans. The move comes as governments in the region scramble to deal with pro-democracy uprisings sparked by youth unemployment and political repression. As part of the Saudi scheme, state employees will see their incomes increase by 15 per cent, and additional cash has also been made available for housing loans. No political reforms were announced as part of the package, though the 86-year-old monarch did pardon some prisoners indicted in financial crimes. Abdullah was recovering in Morocco for four weeks, after undergoing surgery in the United States for a herniated disk which had caused blood accumulation around his spine. During the king’s absence, his brother, Crown Prince Sultan, was in charge of the Kingdom. Sultan himself has also suffered from illness intermittently over the last two years, and has spent long time abroad. While analysts say that Saudi Arabia is unlikely to face the kind of popular protest movements seen in countries such as Egypt, Tunisia or Libya due to its estimated $400 billion in oil reserves, the government is still being pressured to address high youth unemployment and extensive housing. ___ AL JAZEERA ENGLISH

Somalis don't deserve to have a country for now. When they live in other countries they are the best. Just look at Nairobi, Dubai, and Qurbaha dhan. Politics is not our thing, at least not this age and time. Maybe we will try it again 20 years later or so.
