  4. Damsel HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTS: THe only precautions women take when using cleaning products for their sinks, ovens, bathrooms, and floors are rubber gloves. What they fail to realize is that whenever those products are used chemical fumes are released in the air and are ingested when inhaled. These chemicals are transferred to the bloodstream and cause such symptoms as dizzyness, headaches, nose bleeds, rashes, etc. The quantity and type of chemicals used is also important. If only one type of product is used the stated harm is minimal, thus allowed to be used in households. Unfortunately, somali women have a tendency of mixing products( eg.jif and maybe ajax) together to make the place sparkling clean and theres where the problems occur. Cases of pulmonary injury have even been reported. What is needed is ppl to follow the instructions properly. Spread the product on the surface and get away from that area for a while instead of scrubbing it in and inhaling the pungent smell.

  6. Wouldnt mind advice on the qualities of the suitors available but would ,prefer to be given the merit of choosing my soul mate myself. Qac bro, the idea of marrying into family, its a NO-NO. Allah knows better but who knows what genetical/hereditary diseases the children may be born with. And Q I agree with you about the likings of the parents. If the males mum likes you she put alot of pressure on him ( you know come around more often when ur there) and whenever she is free with you alone, she tries to hammer in the qualities possessed by her son.
  7. Caudhubillah, what an imagination
  8. Freud eeeek. Disgusting. Prefer Erik Erikkson. Queen sorry to disappoint you but I wouldnt need a tag along in my life. I will have a nervous breakdown. Qn is what about his needs??? Believe in equality and mutual contentment. Prefer to have someone I can count on in making my life more productive.Someone I can discuss to and disagree with my thoughts than a 'smiling whatever you say will be done, darling 'guy. The so called Light-men.
  9. Vijana mbona mmenifurahisha kweli. Sasa ni swhili zamani siyo? Boolbaro najua dada yangu Bi Raula ameku-ofa darasa lakini ningependa jua hasa darasa gani unalolitaka? Yasmine, Personally I find the word discriminative. used to address the somali folks who got raised in parts of africa out of somalia. And as a counter action the Sijuis named their fellow brothers in ethnicity -Walendo. But with time ppl got used to the word or title 'sijui' which literary means 'I dont know'. An answer given to the native somali speaker who asked the East African Brother a qn in somali.
  10. Im glad of the few response with affirmative answers this thread received. I live in turkey and can only tell you that unfortunately the elite (excluding the party in power) consider the move as very unnecessary. Its a personal preference between two people and the govt should'nt interfere. Anyway, personally I find the move is in accordance to the Islamic heritage this country possesses though tries to forget. The ruling if passed will target the male folk more as its a common fact that they tend to visit the so called 'Genel ev'. What the feminist group fear is there may be an increase in female oriented genocide as when the couple are caught and brought to justice , most families will decide to have the females killed as they brought shame to the family.
  11. ^^ Amin dada. Ni poa tu au kizanzibari Tukijaaliwa Mola atupe Uhai na uzima.
  12. If they are physical disabled yes I wouldnt mind having them in the same schooling set up. As they maybe smarted than a normal healthy person. But if they are mentally disable I beleive it will be very strainous to the student and the class as a whole to function as a unit. As the normal class set up is not nurturing enough and the teachers cannot provide special or should i say extra attention to that particular student when a need arises. I have seen my fair share of mentally disabled children in the pediatric wards and saw how suddenly they can fall into a tantrum for no particular reason and be very hard to reason. Now having such a child in a normal school set up will be hard for the student and fellow classmates. As the necessary lesson will not be taught and all attention will fall on that particular person and it will make the situation worse. As they are unfortuantely targeted as objects of ridicule by students. Im glad to see that efforts to accomodate disabled people in the society has been made by most developed countries. People who could have been bedridden for life have their electronic mobile buggies and live quite a normal life. Awareness still though needs to be increased at the primary school level. I remember in Tanzania we had special trips to the deaf and dumbd and other physical disabled schools and chat with them try to understand how they live their lives. Thus reduces the stigma at a tender age. Could u beleive seeing kids with no hands but they could write with their toes. Managing to do craftwork which I with my 2 hands cant do. Was an eyeopener.
  13. Its all vanity really. Ppl have become so judgemental and influenced by others appearances and have become appearance oriented. What happened to the good ol saying ''dont judge the book by its cover?' Anyway, with any type of surgery it has its pros and cons. With plastic surgery some patients have had nerves severed ending up with twitchy faces or a tightened face on a unilateral side which doesnt look good. Etcetera etc..... Personally, Im 'for' the medical necessity . Seen live videos of face lifts, nose jobs.....(part of the edu) and Ive also been asking the same qn. Did they really have to go to that length?? why not do a simple peeling or dermal abrasion to remove the wrinkles and appear a bit younger. Well thats theyre personal choice i guess. Ethically speaking most plastic surgeons prefer to operate on ppl who really need to have the job done and not the patient who will come with a picture sayin 'I want this nose' as they know that even how hard they will try the patient will always find a fault. So doctors try to avoid these patients or make sure they undergo a psychological check up. Although those with money e.g Michael Jackson can get away with it and ended up with a MASKED FACE-- A term applied used a person has had approximately 3 face lifts as the body loses its elasticity and has that particular stretched n thining appearance. As for gender changing, some ppl have been born hermaphrodites-ambigous genitalia(both male n female organs) if treated and corrected as a child usually there is no problem. But for some (thanks to poor infrastructure-pre and post natal services)unfortunately end up realising it too late. You find a boy(genetical) being brought up as a girl or vice versa. which has a huge psychological impact on the persons development. Thus such changes after the necessary evaluations- (multidiscplinary) a joint decision is made and the prefered sex change is made. Out of curiosity, this hairy woman movie what is it a bout? Hirsuitism? was she treated with Laser therapy or just the normal epilations????
  14. Mine was more a chance for self discovery as in interact more with my fellow somalis and learn more about my culture. I started out reading the forums in somalinet.com took me a year to chat live on the main I just couldnt beleive our ppl could be such wacked out acting anti islamic and anti somali. Subhanallah. Searched through the net and found SOL, more mature and neat place which made me feel at home.Which I can say got me hooked to net apart from my usual journals Im always tempted to click and read the discussions or just chuckle away. Regarding the photos seems I missed the golden opportunity to see fellow members.

  16. Raula Good paper mashallah . Got some qn in that field will address later Inshallah.Just read this link by chance. Regarding the issues of diseases seen in somalis Tb is the most common disease as Raula said its latent. Once the host's immunity system decreases TB becomes a systemic disease known as disseminated Tb and spreads all over the body and can infect various areas. I have met somalis who have had Potts disease - Tb of the vertebral column and normal Chest Tb. And the majority of them where Khat chewers. Which can be explained by they had poor nutrition and were underweight thus giving a chance the bacteria to infect their bodies. Got to go for now.
  17. Great topic. At school we had the physical punishment which everyone avoided as much as they could the kneeling down on stones or with or without a heavy peice of wood in ur hands arms raised high not allowed to bend. Or the physchological punishment of writing lines .. I will not do ...... a thousand times. Lucky there was no detention in our days. At home was more of the mothers look. But when your in real trouble you get sent to your room not allowed to play with your favorite toy or read your story book( not reading my afternoon book was like torture). You are only allowed to come out once you have figured out what you have done wrong. By that time your anger has sublimed you find yourself conversing , discussing the situation with your parents then ends with the apology . The pyschological impact of seating or laying in your room and not allowed to do anything but think, Figuring what did i say?, what did i blurt out?How did it happen? was hard really for any 8 yr old. When I look back Im greatful as it provided me an environment to consider before i make a move or action the possible outcomes as how will the person react to it and how to overcome negative situations. As I learnt to take responsibility of my actions even if its ends up with an apology its better than the embarassment and losing of face forever or severing my relations. When I reflect back my younger siblings got more of the physical punishment though it was implemented by other members of kin as most of the time our parents were away. Which sums as abuse. There upbringing was different. There was fear in their lives something I would have loved to change if I could rewind back the years and stand up against those ppl. Those who implemented force on them when I reflect back and put myself in their shoes have realised they were in their own stressful situation and the way they were brought up they tried to force it on us, which I find lame. Communication is the Key.A child should be talken to and made to understand why he is said to be in the wrong. But as a child I couldnt put or express it that to adults mind so they would get their spankings. And acting as an advocate also gets you into trouble get termed naughty or know it all. My advice parents need to be fully there for their children. Dont let other relatives take the responsibility they may steal the innocence of the children and give them dark memories left forever in their precious minds which will never be erased. The children will always love their parents coz of the fairness they show but relatives dont really do that. Or cannot adjust to the same discipline as the parents do.There is a swahili saying ' When the cats go its the holiday of the mice.' so when the parents are awy whoever takes the responsibility applies their own rules.
  18. As said brother to read with care, as there are also verses which allow just behaviour and kindness towards the ppl of the book. And read the link to the end. S:60;8-9 "Allah does not forbid you with regard to those who do not fight you on account of your religion nor drive you out of your homes, to treat them with goodness and to be just to them; truly, Allah loves those who are just. Indeed, Allah forbids you (only) with regard to those who fight you on account of religion and drive you out of your homes, and assist (others) in driving you out, that you turn to them (in frendship); and whoever turns to them(in friendship), they are wrongdoers." My advice would be ask higher scholars in islam.
  19. Asalaam aleykum Brother you can try to read this thread but read it carefully. http://www.somaliaonline.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=001378
  20. Asalaam aleykum Sister sheherazade Be afraid SisSade. Be very afraid. Its only Allah who I need to fear. I count it as another trial in life. If it is meant to be. At the end the major person who will be hold responsible by Allah will be the husband so he has to be Adil - just which is tough but can be attained if he fears Allah. I would prefer to stay away from the major sins so instead of letting my husband a man I learnt to love and care for divorce me and live a life of loneliness counting the days that pass n go. Its hard getting remarried now adays.. And live in a house where I know that on these particular days I will hear his voice and share a compromised family life. Besbaaso sister, ...believe me i would have made his life hell...if that happened.. Making his life pure hell isnt part of the picture especially as Islam does allow men to forsake their wives beds. Something no woman in the world will like to do as the psychological impact is hard to carry. so the divorce would be better. The qn though is you have young children and they need a father to father them . will u forsake the security and fatherly love they will receive because of your habits?? The idea of sharing as I see being put has also different impact. The approach the family will have and the relationship the husband will have with every wife be different due to her educational background, upbringing, culture.... So diversity will be found and the husband will be really tested on it. So th BEWARE sign should be addressed to that male figure who wishes to venture such waters. May Allah help him. Charisma But the good news is, my sisterS that, according to the islamic sharica u can actually write an agreement ( a contact like thing) with ur guy before HAND lol, if u remember that of course. n it will say i will never marry another woman , if u make him sign it , he can never be married to another n if he does ITS XARAAM infront of ALLAH( that is if he knows ALLAH). I agree with you fully. Such a contract is allowed in Islam unfortunately, not every sister is aware of her rights in Islam. So, its either divorce or have the decree nullified and have a co-wife, at the end the choice is yours. Originally posted by raula: SisSADE-salaamz dada. Mie pia niko kwenye mwaka wangu wa mwisho na ninaelewa namna gani inavyokuwa ni ngumu na taabu. Mwenyezi Mungu akurahisishie masomo yako. Amin And thanks bringing this topic back 2 track I dont beleive there is any human on earth who wouldnt be jealous of the affection which other humans may share and especially if its your spouse. But you can fight it as its a part of your Nafs ( We fast in Ramadhan overcoming our pangs of hunger as we fear and ask for Allahs grace)which is in our hands to sublime.so instead u make sure when the husband comes to your quarters you have an enjoyable time. Spoil him to the maximum . I remember a hadith which says If a human was allowed to worship another A wife could have had to be subservent to her Husband. So either be the first or only wife it is a womans role to be the best as in take care of his affairs, children and possessions. Qacbaro its a choice polygamy and as Sheherazade sister said Its Allah who makes the judgement who is in His Good books and not. Its only our duty when we make a promise to do something it should be in the accord of the Almighty and not according to our whims. So , if there is a reason which presses me to confer to the decree of Polygamy I will whole heartedly.Though I beleive I will be praying extra hard for the male figure for the choice he made as it will cause fitnah whether you like it or not. Thats why men have been reminded in the Quran that they will be tested by their children, wives and possessions by Allah. A heavy burden. And I would prefer living in different quarters if possible definitely different houses. But again will depend on the provisions available. This is my opinion but Allah knows better .
  21. Ten things Allah won't ask: 1... Allah won't ask what kind of car you drove, He'll ask how many people you drove who didn't have transportation. 2...Allah won't ask the square footage of your house, He'll ask how many people you welcomed into your home. 3...Allah won't ask about the clothes you had in your closet, He'll ask how many you helped to clothe. 4... Allah won't ask what your highest salary was, He'll ask if you compromised your character to obtain it. 5...Allah won't ask what your job title was, He'll ask if you performed your job to the best of your ability. 6...Allah won't ask how many friends you had, He'll ask how many people to whom you were a friends 7...Allah won't ask in what neighborhood you lived, He'll ask how you treated your neighbors. 8...Allah won't ask about the color of your skin, He'll ask about the content of your character. 9...Allah won't ask why it took you so long to seek Salvation, He'll lovingly take you to your mansion in heaven, and not to the gates of Hell. 10...Allah won't ask how many people you forwarded this to, He'll ask if you were ashamed to pass it on to your friends. Read Carefully
  22. Raula, its nice to have you back. Regarding polygamy If it will be established in the ideal Islamic decree Im for it ready to compromise and live with the outcome. I find it as a healthy enterprise where a woman has a contract with her husband, share with her fellow sisters in Islam the burden of the daily life chores and have a mutual understanding on the upbringing of the children in the family. It provides each woman security. Well thats my opinion.
  23. Sources from the Quraan and Hadith on Mira'j: Suratil Najm surah 53. In the Name of Allâh, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful. 1. By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 2. Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. 3. Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 4. It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 5. He has been taught (this Qur'ân) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 6. Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabarî]. 7. While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 8. Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 9. And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 10. So did (Allâh) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 11. The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 12. Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'râj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens) . 13. And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 14. Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 15. Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 16. When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 17. The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 18. Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allâh From the Hadith Source Sahih Al-Bukhari Volume 1, Book 8, Number 345: Narrated Abu Dhar: Allah's Apostle said, "While I was at Mecca the roof of my house was opened and Gabriel descended, opened my chest, and washed it with Zam-zam water. Then he brought a golden tray full of wisdom and faith and having poured its contents into my chest, he closed it. Then he took my hand and ascended with me to the nearest heaven, when I reached the nearest heaven, Gabriel said to the gatekeeper of the heaven, 'Open (the gate).' The gatekeeper asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel answered: 'Gabriel.' He asked, 'Is there anyone with you?' Gabriel replied, 'Yes, Muhammad I is with me.' He asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel said, 'Yes.' So the gate was opened and we went over the nearest heaven and there we saw a man sitting with some people on his right and some on his left. When he looked towards his right, he laughed and when he looked toward his left he wept. Then he said, 'Welcome! O pious Prophet and pious son.' I asked Gabriel, 'Who is he?' He replied, 'He is Adam and the people on his right and left are the souls of his offspring. Those on his right are the people of Paradise and those on his left are the people of Hell and when he looks towards his right he laughs and when he looks towards his left he weeps.' Then he ascended with me till he reached the second heaven and he (Gabriel) said to its gatekeeper, 'Open (the gate).' The gatekeeper said to him the same as the gatekeeper of the first heaven had said and he opened the gate. Anas said: "Abu Dhar added that the Prophet met Adam, Idris, Moses, Jesus and Abraham, he (Abu Dhar) did not mention on which heaven they were but he mentioned that he (the Prophet ) met Adarn on the nearest heaven and Abraham on the sixth heaven. Anas said, "When Gabriel along with the Prophet passed by Idris, the latter said, 'Welcome! O pious Prophet and pious brother.' The Prophet asked, 'Who is he?' Gabriel replied, 'He is Idris." The Prophet added, "I passed by Moses and he said, 'Welcome! O pious Prophet and pious brother.' I asked Gabriel, 'Who is he?' Gabriel replied, 'He is Moses.' Then I passed by Jesus and he said, 'Welcome! O pious brother and pious Prophet.' I asked, 'Who is he?' Gabriel replied, 'He is Jesus. Then I passed by Abraham and he said, 'Welcome! O pious Prophet and pious son.' I asked Gabriel, 'Who is he?' Gabriel replied, 'He is Abraham. The Prophet added, 'Then Gabriel ascended with me to a place where I heard the creaking of the pens." Ibn Hazm and Anas bin Malik said: The Prophet said, "Then Allah enjoined fifty prayers on my followers when I returned with this order of Allah, I passed by Moses who asked me, 'What has Allah enjoined on your followers?' I replied, 'He has enjoined fifty prayers on them.' Moses said, 'Go back to your Lord (and appeal for reduction) for your followers will not be able to bear it.' (So I went back to Allah and requested for reduction) and He reduced it to half. When I passed by Moses again and informed him about it, he said, 'Go back to your Lord as your followers will not be able to bear it.' So I returned to Allah and requested for further reduction and half of it was reduced. I again passed by Moses and he said to me: 'Return to your Lord, for your followers will not be able to bear it. So I returned to Allah and He said, 'These are five prayers and they are all (equal to) fifty (in reward) for My Word does not change.' I returned to Moses and he told me to go back once again. I replied, 'Now I feel shy of asking my Lord again.' Then Gabriel took me till we '' reached Sidrat-il-Muntaha (Lote tree of; the utmost boundry) which was shrouded in colors, indescribable. Then I was admitted into Paradise where I found small (tents or) walls (made) of pearls and its earth was of musk." Volume 4, Book 54, Number 429: Narrated Malik bin Sasaa: The Prophet said, "While I was at the House in a state midway between sleep and wakefulness, (an angel recognized me) as the man lying between two men. A golden tray full of wisdom and belief was brought to me and my body was cut open from the throat to the lower part of the abdomen and then my abdomen was washed with Zam-zam water and (my heart was) filled with wisdom and belief. Al-Buraq, a white animal, smaller than a mule and bigger than a donkey was brought to me and I set out with Gabriel. When I reached the nearest heaven. Gabriel said to the heaven gate-keeper, 'Open the gate.' The gatekeeper asked, 'Who is it?' He said, 'Gabriel.' The gate-keeper,' Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel said, 'Muhammad.' The gate-keeper said, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel said, 'Yes.' Then it was said, 'He is welcomed. What a wonderful visit his is!' Then I met Adam and greeted him and he said, 'You are welcomed O son and a Prophet.' Then we ascended to the second heaven. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel said, 'Gabriel.' It was said, 'Who is with you?' He said, 'Muhammad' It was asked, 'Has he been sent for?' He said, 'Yes.' It was said, 'He is welcomed. What a wonderful visit his is!" Then I met Jesus and Yahya (John) who said, 'You are welcomed, O brother and a Prophet.' Then we ascended to the third heaven. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel said, 'Gabriel.' It was asked, 'Who is with you? Gabriel said, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been sent for?' 'Yes,' said Gabriel. 'He is welcomed. What a wonderful visit his is!' (The Prophet added:). There I met Joseph and greeted him, and he replied, 'You are welcomed, O brother and a Prophet!' Then we ascended to the 4th heaven and again the same questions and answers were exchanged as in the previous heavens. There I met Idris and greeted him. He said, 'You are welcomed O brother and Prophet.' Then we ascended to the 5th heaven and again the same questions and answers were exchanged as in previous heavens. there I met and greeted Aaron who said, 'You are welcomed O brother and a Prophet". Then we ascended to the 6th heaven and again the same questions and answers were exchanged as in the previous heavens. There I met and greeted Moses who said, 'You are welcomed O brother and. a Prophet.' When I proceeded on, he started weeping and on being asked why he was weeping, he said, 'O Lord! Followers of this youth who was sent after me will enter Paradise in greater number than my followers.' Then we ascended to the seventh heaven and again the same questions and answers were exchanged as in the previous heavens. There I met and greeted Abraham who said, 'You are welcomed o son and a Prophet.' Then I was shown Al-Bait-al-Ma'mur (i.e. Allah's House). I asked Gabriel about it and he said, This is Al Bait-ul-Ma'mur where 70,000 angels perform prayers daily and when they leave they never return to it (but always a fresh batch comes into it daily).' Then I was shown Sidrat-ul-Muntaha (i.e. a tree in the seventh heaven) and I saw its Nabk fruits which resembled the clay jugs of Hajr (i.e. a town in Arabia), and its leaves were like the ears of elephants, and four rivers originated at its root, two of them were apparent and two were hidden. I asked Gabriel about those rivers and he said, 'The two hidden rivers are in Paradise, and the apparent ones are the Nile and the Euphrates.' Then fifty prayers were enjoined on me. I descended till I met Moses who asked me, 'What have you done?' I said, 'Fifty prayers have been enjoined on me.' He said, 'I know the people better than you, because I had the hardest experience to bring Bani Israel to obedience. Your followers cannot put up with such obligation. So, return to your Lord and request Him (to reduce the number of prayers.' I returned and requested Allah (for reduction) and He made it forty. I returned and (met Moses) and had a similar discussion, and then returned again to Allah for reduction and He made it thirty, then twenty, then ten, and then I came to Moses who repeated the same advice. Ultimately Allah reduced it to five. When I came to Moses again, he said, 'What have you done?' I said, 'Allah has made it five only.' He repeated the same advice but I said that I surrendered (to Allah's Final Order)'" Allah's Apostle was addressed by Allah, "I have decreed My Obligation and have reduced the burden on My slaves, and I shall reward a single good deed as if it were ten good deeds." Volume 5, Book 58, Number 227: Narrated Abbas bin Malik: Malik bin Sasaa said that Allah's Apostle described to them his Night Journey saying, "While I was lying in Al-Hatim or Al-Hijr, suddenly someone came to me and cut my body open from here to here." I asked Al-Jarud who was by my side, "What does he mean?" He said, "It means from his throat to his pubic area," or said, "From the top of the chest." The Prophet further said, "He then took out my heart. Then a gold tray of Belief was brought to me and my heart was washed and was filled (with Belief) and then returned to its original place. Then a white animal which was smaller than a mule and bigger than a donkey was brought to me." (On this Al-Jarud asked, "Was it the Buraq, O Abu Hamza?" I (i.e. Anas) replied in the affirmative). The Prophet said, "The animal's step (was so wide that it) reached the farthest point within the reach of the animal's sight. I was carried on it, and Gabriel set out with me till we reached the nearest heaven. When he asked for the gate to be opened, it was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel answered, 'Gabriel.' It was asked, 'Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has Muhammad been called?' Gabriel replied in the affirmative. Then it was said, 'He is welcomed. What an excellent visit his is!' The gate was opened, and when I went over the first heaven, I saw Adam there. Gabriel said (to me). 'This is your father, Adam; pay him your greetings.' So I greeted him and he returned the greeting to me and said, 'You are welcomed, O pious son and pious Prophet.' Then Gabriel ascended with me till we reached the second heaven. Gabriel asked for the gate to be opened. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel answered, 'Gabriel.' It was asked, 'Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel answered in the affirmative. Then it was said, 'He is welcomed. What an excellent visit his is!' The gate was opened. When I went over the second heaven, there I saw Yahya (i.e. John) and 'Isa (i.e. Jesus) who were cousins of each other. Gabriel said (to me), 'These are John and Jesus; pay them your greetings.' So I greeted them and both of them returned my greetings to me and said, 'You are welcomed, O pious brother and pious Prophet.' Then Gabriel ascended with me to the third heaven and asked for its gate to be opened. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel replied, 'Gabriel.' It was asked, 'Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel replied in the affirmative. Then it was said, 'He is welcomed, what an excellent visit his is!' The gate was opened, and when I went over the third heaven there I saw Joseph. Gabriel said (to me), 'This is Joseph; pay him your greetings.' So I greeted him and he returned the greeting to me and said, 'You are welcomed, O pious brother and pious Prophet.' Then Gabriel ascended with me to the fourth heaven and asked for its gate to be opened. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel replied, 'Gabriel' It was asked, 'Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel replied in the affirmative. Then it was said, 'He is welcomed, what an excel lent visit his is!' The gate was opened, and when I went over the fourth heaven, there I saw Idris. Gabriel said (to me), 'This is Idris; pay him your greetings.' So I greeted him and he returned the greeting to me and said, 'You are welcomed, O pious brother and pious Prophet.' Then Gabriel ascended with me to the fifth heaven and asked for its gate to be opened. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel replied, 'Gabriel.' It was asked. 'Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel replied in the affirmative. Then it was said He is welcomed, what an excellent visit his is! So when I went over the fifth heaven, there I saw Harun (i.e. Aaron), Gabriel said, (to me). This is Aaron; pay him your greetings.' I greeted him and he returned the greeting to me and said, 'You are welcomed, O pious brother and pious Prophet.' Then Gabriel ascended with me to the sixth heaven and asked for its gate to be opened. It was asked. 'Who is it?' Gabriel replied, 'Gabriel.' It was asked, 'Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel replied in the affirmative. It was said, 'He is welcomed. What an excellent visit his is!' When I went (over the sixth heaven), there I saw Moses. Gabriel said (to me),' This is Moses; pay him your greeting. So I greeted him and he returned the greetings to me and said, 'You are welcomed, O pious brother and pious Prophet.' When I left him (i.e. Moses) he wept. Someone asked him, 'What makes you weep?' Moses said, 'I weep because after me there has been sent (as Prophet) a young man whose followers will enter Paradise in greater numbers than my followers.' Then Gabriel ascended with me to the seventh heaven and asked for its gate to be opened. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel replied, 'Gabriel.' It was asked,' Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel replied in the affirmative. Then it was said, 'He is welcomed. What an excellent visit his is!' So when I went (over the seventh heaven), there I saw Abraham. Gabriel said (to me), 'This is your father; pay your greetings to him.' So I greeted him and he returned the greetings to me and said, 'You are welcomed, O pious son and pious Prophet.' Then I was made to ascend to Sidrat-ul-Muntaha (i.e. the Lote Tree of the utmost boundary) Behold! Its fruits were like the jars of Hajr (i.e. a place near Medina) and its leaves were as big as the ears of elephants. Gabriel said, 'This is the Lote Tree of the utmost boundary) . Behold ! There ran four rivers, two were hidden and two were visible, I asked, 'What are these two kinds of rivers, O Gabriel?' He replied,' As for the hidden rivers, they are two rivers in Paradise and the visible rivers are the Nile and the Euphrates.' Then Al-Bait-ul-Ma'mur (i.e. the Sacred House) was shown to me and a container full of wine and another full of milk and a third full of honey were brought to me. I took the milk. Gabriel remarked, 'This is the Islamic religion which you and your followers are following.' Then the prayers were enjoined on me: They were fifty prayers a day. When I returned, I passed by Moses who asked (me), 'What have you been ordered to do?' I replied, 'I have been ordered to offer fifty prayers a day.' Moses said, 'Your followers cannot bear fifty prayers a day, and by Allah, I have tested people before you, and I have tried my level best with Bani Israel (in vain). Go back to your Lord and ask for reduction to lessen your followers' burden.' So I went back, and Allah reduced ten prayers for me. Then again I came to Moses, but he repeated the same as he had said before. Then again I went back to Allah and He reduced ten more prayers. When I came back to Moses he said the same, I went back to Allah and He ordered me to observe ten prayers a day. When I came back to Moses, he repeated the same advice, so I went back to Allah and was ordered to observe five prayers a day. When I came back to Moses, he said, 'What have you been ordered?' I replied, 'I have been ordered to observe five prayers a day.' He said, 'Your followers cannot bear five prayers a day, and no doubt, I have got an experience of the people before you, and I have tried my level best with Bani Israel, so go back to your Lord and ask for reduction to lessen your follower's burden.' I said, 'I have requested so much of my Lord that I feel ashamed, but I am satisfied now and surrender to Allah's Order.' When I left, I heard a voice saying, 'I have passed My Order and have lessened the burden of My Worshipers." Volume 4, Book 54, Number 462: Narrated Ibn Abbas: The Prophet said, "On the night of my Ascent to the Heaven, I saw Moses who was a tall brown curly-haired man as if he was one of the men of Shan'awa tribe, and I saw Jesus, a man of medium height and moderate complexion inclined to the red and white colors and of lank hair. I also saw Malik, the gate-keeper of the (Hell) Fire and Ad-Dajjal amongst the signs which Allah showed me." (The Prophet then recited the Holy Verse): "So be not you in doubt of meeting him' when you met Moses during the night of Mi'raj over the heavens" (32.23) Narrated Anas and Abu Bakra: "The Prophet said, "The angels will guard Medina from Ad-Dajjal (who will not be able to enter the city of Medina)." Volume 4, Book 54, Number 464: Narrated 'Imran bin Husain: The Prophet said, "I looked at Paradise and found poor people forming the majority of its inhabitants; and I looked at Hell and saw that the majority of its inhabitants were women." Volume 6, Book 60, Number 240: Narrated Ibn Abbas: Regarding: 'And We granted the vision (Ascension to the Heaven "Miraj") which We showed you (O Muhammad as an actual eye witness) but as a trial for mankind.' (17.60) It was an actual eye-witness which was shown to Allah's Apostle during the night he was taken on a journey (through the heavens). And the cursed tree is the tree of Az-Zaqqum (a bitter pungent tree which grows at the bottom of Hell). Volume 6, Book 60, Number 233: Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: The Prophet said, "When the Quraish disbelieved me (concerning my night journey), I stood up in Al-Hijr (the unroofed portion of the Ka'ba) and Allah displayed Bait-ul-Maqdis before me, and I started to inform them (Quraish) about its signs while looking at it." Volume 6, Book 60, Number 232: Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle was presented with two cups one containing wine and the other milk on the night of his night journey at Jerusalem. He looked at it and took the milk. Gabriel said, "Thanks to Allah Who guided you to the Fitra (i.e. Islam); if you had taken the wine, your followers would have gone astray. Volume 7, Book 69, Number 482: Narrated Abu Huraira: On the night Allah's Apostle was taken on a night journey (Miraj) two cups, one containing wine and the other milk, were presented to him at Jerusalem. He looked at it and took the cup of milk. Gabriel said, "Praise be to Allah Who guided you to Al-Fitra (the right path); if you had taken (the cup of) wine, your nation would have gone astray." Volume 8, Book 76, Number 583: Narrated Anas bin Malik: The Prophet said: "While I was walking in Paradise (on the night of Mi'raj), I saw a river, on the two banks of which there were tents made of hollow pearls. I asked, "What is this, O Gabriel?' He said, 'That is the Kauthar which Your Lord has given to you.' Behold! Its scent or its mud was sharp smelling musk!" (The sub-narrator, Hudba is in doubt as to the correct expression. ) Volume 8, Book 76, Number 559t: Narrated Sahl bin Sa'd: Allah's Apostle said, "In Paradise there is a tree so big that in its shade a rider may travel for one hundred years without being able to cross it." (17.60): Allah's Apostle actually saw with his own eyes the vision (all the things which were shown to him) on the night of his Night Journey to Jerusalem (and then to the heavens). The cursed tree which is mentioned in the Qur'an is the tree of Az-Zaqqum.
  24. Asalaam aleykum Another milestone in the islamic calender has passed.Known as the Ascension- Mir'aj or Isra' a trip which our Holy prophet SAW made and was honoured by Allah SWT by providing Muslims the 5 daily prayers. Also during the trip our Prophet SAW met fellow Prophets of Allah and was shown Hell and heaven. Muslims across the globe pass this night praying for forgiveness and thank Allah for blessings He SWT has bestowed on us. In a search to know more on this night I came across an article written by a respected Islamic scholar the famous Shaykh Ibn Bazz which I would like to ask of my fellow SOL members what are your opinion on this topic. The link http://www.islaam.com/Article.aspx?id=111 Allah knows better.
  25. Asalaam aleykum Its been a while since Ive posted. Its healthy to have differences in opinions though its unfortunate to see personal attacks are still going on. May Allah guides us all to the right path and keep us as one Ummah. Amin Regarding the topic in hand, Viking Jazakhallah kheir for reminding us the importance of knowledge. I agree with you and all who posted that if it is righteous we should put it into practice. Another thing I would like to remind Is our Holy Prophet SAW when he received his first Calling he was ordered 'Iqra -Read, Read in the name of the Lord.....'. Different scholars have different views but the majority agree on that Reading aka- learning did not mean only secular knowledge but also in worldly matters. So if this is the case Muslims searched for knowledge and became amongst the best scholars in history. The likes of Ibn Sina. They learnt from others and contemplated and put into use their knowledge.(The unfortunate thing was the rich Muslim libraries were burnt during the conquest of Spain, few manuscripts and books survived) So naturally if we are the Choosen people of Allah who will enter into multitudes to Jannah it is our duty to be the best and if it isnt increasing ourselves in knowledge what else do we have???? Allah reminds us in most of His verses in the Quraan that His signs are found in nature but those who are knowledgable can perceive. Allah knows better
