  4. Acquire knowledge. It enableth its possesor to distinguish right from wrong; it lighteth the way to Heaven; it is our friend in the desert, our society in solitude, our companion when friendless, it guideth us to happiness; it sustaineth us in misery; it is an ornament amongst friends; and an armour against enemies. Prophet Muhammad (saw)
  5. "He who has Laa illaha illallah in his heart, He has Iman in his heart; He who has Iman in his heart, he has Love in his heart; He who has Love in his heart, he has Sakeenah in his heart; He who has Sakeenah in his heart, he has ALLAH in his heart; And he who has ALLAH in his heart, he is in no need of anyone else."
  6. An elderly man gathered together 3 of his most trusted friends, a doctor, a lawyer, and a priest. He said to his friends, "Now, I know I can't take it with me when I die but I'd like to try" He handed each of them an envelope each containing $10,000,000 in cash. "I'd like each of you to throw the envelopes into the grave after they put me in," he said. The 3 looked at each other and agreed to the elderly man's final wishes. The elderly man soon dies and when he is lowered to his grave, friends throw in the envelope and the elderly man is buried with them. On the way back to the cars the doctor says, "I have a confession. I was thinking last night about the children's recovery program I'm getting off the ground and $10,000,000 would have been a great start to the program's funding. I figured I would put the money to good use rather than have it buried 6 feet underground." The lawyer went nuts telling him that going against the elderly man's will is a huge crime. Then the priest also confessed, "I also thought I'd put the money to good use. The mission’s fund the church is trying to put together has received little contribution. $10,000,000 would be a huge boost to the fund." The lawyer was absolutely outraged talking about how they could both end up in jail. He said, "You should've done what I did. The money he gave me is being kept in my safe at home. I wrote a check for $10,000,000 and put that in the envelope and that's what is in the grave!"
  7. Libaax, A friend of mine had been receiving similar mails all from people of African descent -Nigeria, Zimbabwe or Southafrican with similar stories. We ended up deleting all the msgs. People never stop to amaze me especially with their creativity.
  8. Viking, I heard of the hooves tales too. Also famous in Tanga. Regarding the nicknames, those who grew up there had them and some were very funny. Remember some of my relatives tag names they always had a story to tell.
  9. I think it was the battle of Bi'r Ma'unah. A short battle near the well of Maunah. The carrier was killed and ordered his tribesmen to kill the Muslims. Not one Muslim survived except Kaab ibn Zayd and Amr ibn Ummayah
  10. Viking, Jama kapata shock ya maisha  Lakini huyo paka noma. True, about the withcraft stuff ppl back home where so superstitious. Raula d, naona Mwangi still has his effects on u Talking of withcraft and majini,,,,, Remember at my boarding school our mosque was near the beach, and the watchmen had a belief that around 3am a beautiful woman clad in white had a tendency of visiting the mosque. Wallahi Allah knows better but we still used to go for itiqaf and nothing really happen. Another famous Tanga superstitious topic was you walk down a road and you hit a peice of the kifuu( coconut husk) accidently You hear a voice: Why you kicking me???
  11. Asalaam aleykum, Tonight Inshallah there will be a lunar eclipse. Turkish time Thursday 03.30 ( London Wednesday 23.00). And it is another Ramadhan, May Allah protect us. Couldnt find the hadith on the Mahdi thus added the Hadith concerning eclipses. Sahih Bukhari: Volume 2, Book 18, Number 165: Narrated Abu Masud: Allah's Apostle said, "The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of someone's death or life but they are two signs amongst the signs of Allah, so pray whenever you see them." Volume 2, Book 18, Number 172: Narrated 'Aisha: The Prophet (p.b.u.h) recited (the Quran) aloud during the eclipse prayer and when he had finished the eclipse prayer he said the Takbir and bowed. When he stood straight from bowing he would say "Sami 'al-l-ahu Lyman hamidah Rabbana walaka-l-hamd." And he would again start reciting. In the eclipse prayer there are four bowing and four prostrations in two Rakat. Al-Auza'i and others said that they had heard Az-Zuhi from 'Ursa from 'Aisha saying, "In the life-time of Allah's Apostle the sun eclipsed, and he made a person to announce: 'Prayer in congregation.' He led the prayer and performed four bowing and four prostrations in two Rakat." Narrated Al-Walid that 'Abdur-Rahman bin Namir had informed him that he had heard the same. Ibn Shihab heard the same. Az-Zuhrl said, "I asked ('Ursa), 'What did your brother 'Abdullah bin AzZubair do? He prayed two Rakat (of the eclipse prayer) like the morning prayer, when he offered the (eclipse) prayer in Median.' 'Ursa replied that he had missed (i.e. did not pray according to) the Prophet's tradition." Sulaiman bin Kathir and Sufyan bin Husain narrated from Az-Zuhri that the prayer for the eclipse used to be offered with loud recitation.

  13. Salaam Raula , thanks 4 the warning. Reminds me of the period the europeans first met Islam all the weird stuff was associated with Islam and our beloved Prophet SAW. The only difference is then it was the Dark ages=no technology. Now at the click of a button you can get enough information to convert a person. Guess it all goes down to intentions  Living in a dark world.
  14. Jazakhallah kheir Libaax, I always question my faith when I read about the early companions and the trail and torture they had to go through when they accepted Islam.Ive always admired Bilal (RAA) of his determination and his later role in the Islamic struggle being the first Muazzin and a companion to our Prophet SAW, a noble position which proved that Islam is fair and universal to all regardless of race, ethnicity , blood ties. As a child it was one of the best lessons i learnt our religious beleif came first and we were all equal.
  15. Assalam-o-Alaikum, sisters Femme fatale, Sheherazade and Maha thank you for reading Ramadhan Kareem. Please take a moment to relax your mind and humble your heart to focus on ALLAH. Allow Allah, to occupy your mind while you read this DUA. If we can take the time to read long jokes, stories, etc.,we should give the same respect to this DUA. Friends that pray together, stay together. Let's pray... OH ALLAH, I thank You for this day. I thank You for my being able to see and to hear this morning. I'm blessed because You are forgiving and understanding, Oh Allah. You have done so much for me & You keep on blessing me. Forgive me this day for everything I have done, said or thought that was not pleasing to you. I ask YOU only for Your forgiveness. Please keep me safe from all danger and harm. Help me to start this day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude. Let me make the best of each and every day to clear my mind so that I can hear from You. Please broaden my mind that I can accept all things. Let me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over. Let me continue to see sin through YOUR eyes and acknowledge it as evil. And when I sin, let me repent, and receive YOUR forgiveness. And when this world closes in on me, let me remember YOU - to slip away and find a quiet place to make DUA. It's the best response when I'm pushed beyond my limits. I know that when I can't make DUA, You listen to my heart. Continue to use me to do Your will. Continue to bless me that I may be a blessing to others. Keep me strong that I may help the weak. Keep me uplifted that I may have words of encouragement for others. I make DUA for those that are lost and can't find their way. I make DUA for those that are misjudged and misunderstood. I make DUA for those who don't know You intimately I make DUA for those that will delete this without sharing it with others. I make DUA for those that don't believe. But I thank you that I believe. I believe that Allah changes people and Allah changes things. I make DUA for all my sisters and brothers in beleief. For each and every family member in their households. I make DUA for peace, love and joy in their homes that they are out of debt and all their needs are met. I make DUA that every eye that reads this knows there is no problem, circumstance, or situation greater that Allah cant solve. Every battle is in your hands for You to fight. I make DUA that these words be received into the hearts of every eye that sees them and every mouth that confesses them willingly. Aamiin.
  16. Related to Suratil Tauba S.9.V.20 Narrated Abu Hurraira: The Prophet SAW said: ''Whoever beleives in Allah and His Messenger SAW, offers prayers perfectly and fasts the month of Ramadhan, then it will be a promise binding upon Allah to admit him to paradise, no matter whether he fights in Allah's Cause or remains in the land where he is born.'' The people said ' O Allah's Messenger! Shall we acquaint the people with this good news?'' He said,'' Paradise has one-hundred grades which Allah has reserved for the Mujahiddun who fights in His Cause, and the distance between each of two grades is like the distance between the heaven and the earth. So , when, you ask Allah( for something), ask for Al-Firdaus which is the middle and the highest part of paradise.!!(the subnarrator added,'' I think the Prophet SAW also said, 'Above it (i.e Al-Firdaus) is the Throne of the most Beneficient(ie Allah) and from it gush forth the rivers of paradise).'' Sahih Bukhari Vol.4 Hadith No.48
