^Thanks. I figured as much. Darn, here I was looking for a short cut. I'll be definitely looking into the book and using the suggestions above.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm asking because explaining colonoscopy was kind of a disaster. I said "waa tuubo camera leh oo dabada lagaa galinayo". If you guys could see the expression on her face. And I felt very weird/creepy saying that. Inshallah, I have a bigger goal in this. I plan on using what I learned and making translation sheets, laminating them and storing them in my unit for everyone's use.

Assalamu Alaikum all, Need some help here. A few weeks ago I had a Somali patient who did not speak a word of english and since I understand/speak Somali at a very basic level - it was very tough to communicate with her about medications, procedures, and surgical complications. It was a nightshift and her family wasn't there so I was on my own. A few years ago I made a thread about translating body parts from English to Somali but I can't find that thread. This time I need help with these. I will add more depending on how much help I get. Thanks! Procedures: - Xray/MRI/CT scan -Ultrasound -Colonscopy -Biopsy Tests: -Electrolytes -Hemoglobin -White blood cells -Platelets [Edit]: Found the original thread - guess I was skimming too fast.

^You are really missing out. I like it as excerise better than the gym and besides how can you not like the beauty? I don't walk or run in the city - if I'm going to huff and puff it better be around gorgeous scenery as shown Aaliyah - let me know what camera you get when you do and show us ur photos.

I am in the 3rd pic - if you can make out my blue hijab down behind the guy in the far right. The camera he used is Nikon D5000. Kinda pricey. Anyone think it's worth it?
-
Sorry guys, my friend/guide took those pics. I'll ask him what camera he used (pretty big & expensive). I'll post more pics from my crappy $300 sony cam later.

I love the outdoors and I recently found a muslim hiking group! Yesterday was my first and it was amazing - it was said to be 'easy' but I still felt like I was dying. The fasting didn't bother me though. Just very out of shape. Anyway - I'm going to be posting pics here of my hiking adventures and fellow nature lovers are welcome too. Edit: Capilano Canyon, North Vancouver, BC

Mashallah, congrats to all of them. I don't know this kid's name but he was in last year's competition - his voice is amazing. I could listen to him all day. Edit: Oops. Brother's name is Abbas Abdinur. I was distracted by the voice

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Even the little lamb feels brave in prodding the lioness.

Val, your avatar makes me smile. I'm not sure - but it looks like it's Sophia Bush and I love that girl's deep, raspy voice. One of the reasons I enjoy losing my voice - just so that I could sound like her.

A woman doesn't respect a man that she can walk all over. Maybe that's what she meant by 'nice'. She just wasn't good at wording her thoughts properly. Or maybe not. I didn't finish the whole video. I found all three of them annoying.

^Me too! Hahaha. That isn't good for his massive ego I bet.

LOL. I remember xquisit, lazy girl & tuujiye (that name always creeped me out - what exactly was he squeezing?). Very funny & entertaining. Ayoub, by Somali standards, that's not a weird question at all. ;P

I can't believe that I've been here for the past 7 years! Cuurazzzzzzzzzy. Anyway - while playing around with this new forum look - I pressed the replies button at the top of the general and women's sections. And, what memories It sorts threads from most to least replies. I don't know - the last 2-3 years, these sections have been on life support. I scurry past past the sports, politics and other sections - so don't know how they are faring. I think some of us ,*ahem*, have been a bit too hard on our lovable SOL nuts/crazies/weirdos that have been this place fun and entertaining. I even miss the fights!!! So I implore all the freaks - both guests and members alike - come and ask your weird questions and maybe step on a few lazy toes here and there. Of course, after Ramadhan that is. What posters/threads do you guys remember?

^I don't think so. Baby fever Val?

If an army of kids were encouraged in Islam - we would here of the prophets or the companions having 10+ kids. You hardly hear of that though. Kids are a headache as much as a blessing - have enough you can handle and properly raise. And making sure they have a roof over their head and food in their tummy is the least of it.

^I think I lost the art of sarcasm. I know it's horrible - but I was suprised the poster was asking why girls accept their conditions, as if they had a choice.
-
I know eh? Aren't Somali 6 year olds such stup!d cowards? I mean, to subject themselves to FGM and hijaab at that age is unbelievable.

Nothing beats the original. Just sayin'.

There are many useful areas for women to be in police. Ex. I'm pretty sure female rape victims would be far more comfortable dealing with female a officer than male one. Also would be benefitical in family/marital disputes, child custody issues etc. It does not necessarily mean running after crooks or shooting random pple.

^LOL! You always knew where your priorities lie Unfortunately, SOL does not worship me as it used to. I'm insulted that I have two little green bars when some weirdos like Ngonge have 10! Oh, the indignity of it. It burns me.

Ugh, I should have known than to complain/vent to Somalis. ****** . It's always a one-upmanship.
