Bosaso, Somalia (AHN) - The semi-autonomous region of Somalia’s Puntland navy captured a Yemeni fishing boat near the coast of Bosaso town, officials said on Thursday.
The Yemeni boat was fishing illegally in Puntland’s coastal area, an official from the seaports ministry told the media on condition of anonymity.
He added the number of boat crew was 8, declining the details of their nationalities.
Reports say the fishing vessel reached at Bosaso harbor last night, where coast guard officials are detaining the boat and its crew.
No comment from the government of Yemen was immediately available.
Since the fall of Somalia’s military government in 1991, foreign ships have illegaly fished and dumped industrial and nuclear waste off the Somali coast.
