Nassir: Your point is well taken, but the fact remains the gentleman who wrote this piece has done his homework also and poses very valid arguments agianst the myth that Somalis are a nation that is few hundred years old. Per some of his references, particularly those of the DNA research on Somali ethnicity prove beyound any doubt that we together with our fellow north east africans are a distinct race, different from both the Arabs and other fellow Africans. Cowke: Suggesting to disband the only federal structure (TFG) is another way of advocating for the balkanization of Somalia. They could have recommended this so called baby steps of establishing regional governments, while at the same time strengthening the federal institutions. Instead they are advocating here to completely dissolve the entire TFG institutions. It is like as they say throwing the baby with towel. In my opinion supporting the federal government and setting up regional administrations in the southern part of Somalia are NOT contradictory and mutually exclusive choices, but can be done at the same time. I dont get how that particular proposal helps the federalism option. Waaheen

Although it looks like that they have not completely abandoned their stand on Somali unity, however, this editorial indicates a significant shift on the part of Wardheernews towards some of Somaliland’s positions towards Somali unity. One major controversial recommendation is the dissolution of the TFG government and the suggestion of all non southerners to go back to their respective territories.

The sad thing is the culprits or the criminal gangs of Al Shabaab are plotting their next move and the hapless TFG continue to blame victims like this young chap from Denmark for these heinous crimes.

Previous Wardheernews editorials were on many cases very critical about Somaliland’s policies and some of their leadership. I am not yet convinced that Wardheernews is a choir that is singing a tune that is in line with all the ambitions of Somaliland. Probably they will agree with some and disagree with others. But what this editorial shows is that they at least look at the issues concerned somewhat objectively. As per this particular editorial, in my view it merely points out few issues, most prominent of which is the fact that recapturing Lasanod is currently not a priority for Faroole’s administration and transferring ******is is not in Puntland’s interest. An excellent novel. From what I understood from the few excerpts so far published the story is based on the saga of a Somali family during the civil war and their eventual relocation to the United States. Their troubles and tribulations is something that most of the members of the Somali diaspora can relate to. It is a novel wrote by a Somali lady which was described by some as a must-read first-and-only novel by and for the post-civil war generation of Somalis that has established roots in the west. It is a thriller that has recently created a buzz in some of the Somali cyber meeting places and facebook. From a non partisan point of view this was a major blunder. Mind you prior to this Mr. Payne was at least willing to listen and meet with the Somaliland officials who occasionally visit Washington and was considered by many of them as a friend of Somaliland". Secondly why leave the stage for your adversaries? It makes no sence! The only outcome of this bad move was Somaliland came across as unreasonable and amateurish. This was a hearing for Gods sake, not a negotiation between them and the rest of the Somali entities.
