  1. First of all you misunderstand my stance sister Hayam. I’m not a fan of Bush or his policies; it was a tongue in cheek comment designed to highlight the differences in presidential style between Obama and Bush.

    On Obama

I don’t like who he has surrounded himself with. He talks the talk but action is lacking in vital areas of Foreign Policy.

In short you knew where the Bush administration stood on key areas of FP, whereas the Obama administration paints itself as some kind of proto liberal good child of international diplomacy, where the reality states the opposite.

Just look at his murderous policy of increased drone attacks across Afghanistan/Pakistan and Somalia. These so called clean strikes are in fact indiscriminate, and go against international law.

Judge Obama by his long laundry list of lies and not by his charismatic persona.

I’m not and American and hence don’t vote.

PS! I only care about FP and not domestic babble as it doesn’t affect me.

  2. Karl I've also detected those tendencies you speak of, although at times I've had my reservations about who he claims to be. He's a perplexing personalty in that i find myself agreeing with most of his sentiments, although the one aspect that makes me uncomfortable is his implicit anti Islam bias which is conveniently veiled under his anti Arab rants.

Peacenow, I take comfort in the fact that you claim religion is a private matter, i support that. it also indicates in by book that the chance that you are a Muslim is greater, and you being deliberately ambiguous is i think in part to conjure up more debate in this here forum.

Nevertheless on Alshabab (who are not entirely evil)i find myself agreeing with him.

    cheers to diversity.

  3. i also agree with peacenow in this instance. The man speaks sense. :D

The Helsinki initiative is fantastic, although i can't see that working here in London to be honest. The lads i met in those Nordic countries seemed less provocative in their general demeanor when compared to the mongrel rabid wild hordes that terrorize our streets.

What is wrong with Somali youth today. My generation wasn't anything like today's, and i grew up in the early to late 90's.

I'm 24 and i cant relate to today's 16 year olds. What hope do the older generations have

  4. cowke i was thinking the same thing. AstroTurf would be wonderful for grassroots sports development all around Somalia.

i suspect the money side of things will be a challenge to overcome. however the real issue would be finding a good quality construction firm capable of doing a good job of constructing these terribly complicated structures.

on top of that finding one that is willing to work in Somalia?

PS! good news coming out of PL, keep it up.

  7. its not about worshiping your body B, its about staying healthy and looking after your body.

you also feel good when doing exercises.

i for one do regular 7k runs, combined with soccer and bodybuilding. its basically fills up my diary's spare time.

so for me its a good diversion.

  8. Link in StrategyEye

How are they going to enforce this. isn't it self defeating to cut people off. Plus there are numerous ways of hiding ones IP when illegally downloading copyrighted content.

It just doesn't seem like a very well thought out bill.

Also ISP's will seek to challenge this every time in court.

And how many of you use torrents and P2P clients for downloading? or file sharing as its called.

i personally haven't for years, moved on to direct downloads from servers. You can download i 1.4Gb/1400Mb movie in 10 mins, or quicker depending on your connection. And seeing as I'm not file sharing (torrents) but rather downloading direct from a server, than how can they distinguish between the two. The bill seems geared towards people who file share.

  9. B, it must have been very embarrassing for you being singled out like that and on top being found guilty of wrong doing. I'm always legit, only because i have the rotten luck of running into inspectors 3-5 times a week. NO JOKE!.

Its a minor offense so I'm told by my fellow experienced Somali fare dodgers. It should not go to court inshallah, just pay the fine, lesson learnt simples:)

PS! its so bad now; that i always asks friends when they are traveling with me to have legitimate tickets as i have a knack for being stopped. Even happened on holiday in Barcelona and Stockholm. is there such a thing as bad luck?

  10. Having personal experience of this, i say so long as she is considered by those who know her as a good person than it shouldn't be a problem.

My sister married her husband who is Swedish, but was only given the go ahead after a period of study and reflection of Islam by her husband to be. Once he accepted (Islam) my parents blessed them and the union went ahead.

They have one child who is fluent in both Somali and Swedish, she is in fact thanks to her mums efforts and ours, very in touch and aware of her Somali heritage. however the danger is as i have also found is when the man marries a woman of another race. They in my experience tend to be more accommodating of the woman's demands and hence the children lose their Somali identity completely.

nevertheless what his parents think is paramount. So long as he tries to address their legitimate concerns that is.

  11. don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but where the hell have you people been in the past few months. Connect the dots from all news and press releases and you will immediately realise that something big is on the horizon regarding Somalia.

when the last 2000 Somali troops are trained in Uganda by French Commandos in May, i expect a full assault on numerous fronts.

The planning has undoubtedly involved Africom in Djibouti, and i expect Air support from the Americans and the odd special forces foray into the country itself.

    The writings on the wall

  12. Forgive my ignorance but its been a while since i was last in east africa, of what i do remember is the food. Simply amazing, things like, Maharagi i think it was called. ugali, and mishkaki.

i presume kenyan and tanzanian food are similar?

  13. Don't write it off completely sometimes it does work. My nephew was sent to rural Tanzania after getting involved with the wrong crowds in school, he attended boarding school, and has turned out to be a fine young man, so good that he is due to come back this summer. He went away a troubled youth and returns an intelligent and articulate young man.

Plus he can know add Swahili to his arsenal of languages. English, Swahili, Somali and Dutch. Puts me to shame :D

Granted he has many male family members close by for support. So don't knock it, if the right support network exists then they usually work in my experience.

  14. guys Hurt Locker was immense, such an original and gripping film, very tense. overall A+

Avatar, besides special effects i give it B+, lacks originality with script.

    Just my opinion:)

  15. remember the Guinness ad from

, best ad ever. Premise behind it is the idea that good things come to those who wait.

    you guys remember the Cadbury's

    ,

    Carlsberg

    and finally

    Carling

    advert. Absolutely epic. :D

  16. It doesn't surprise me, as i write this there are at least half a dozen high ranking officials in the Arab world who are working for Israel in one way or another.

you just have to read the news and see the two sentenced to death in Lebanon recently and electroplate it.

At the height of the Israeli Arab war in the 60's, One of Syria's generals was in fact a Spy for Israel.

I don't like what Israel represents in reality today, but you have to admire them. A country with the population of 7.5 million has the entire Arab world of 100 million+ wincing by the balls.

  17. fascinating, surely that would make Somalia one of the earliest places to accept Islam outside Arabia, including North African countries. whatever is left of these mosques need preserving and some kind of restoration. so people could visit.

I think the place is oozing with allot of history both pre-Islam and after just waiting to be discovered.

  18. Serenity excuse my ignorance on matters of religion, but i though the original qibla was facing Jerusalem in the early days and then switched to Mecca when the Prophet Mohamed(pbuh) received a revelation from Allah to change to Mecca. So are you saying that there are mosques in Somalia with qibla's facing both Jerusalem and Mecca.
