  1. only two more months until vacation is over Cowke. then its back to 9pm light out routine, right after homework, oh and if your good mummy will allow you to surf the internet for a half hour in the living room before bed. icon_razz.gif

enjoy your freedom while it lasts. :D

  2. dont take this wrong way ibti, but for a girl you sure now your footy. :D

the ones i have been speaking to in the office think a volley is somthing associated with volleyball

i said on the first show that i have this feeling in my gut that ghana would win it, but my brain tells me Argentina.

i should listent to my brain

    A man can dream.....

youngest team in the competition Ghana, at least they have that going for them :D

  3. not bad guys, i already have some of those planned, the nike adidas ads idea is good Norf, might use it.

I'm going to lay into Roy Hodgson. :D

Gonna keep the music african tonight.

got so much to do, go home, plan this and to make things worse i'm supposed to be playing footy tonight. before the show. can't say no to footy.

i predicted ghana to win from day one :D

  4. you won't believe me if i tell you who my partner in crime?

he used to be very active here on SOL. i call him our version of Duke or Cowke.

    can you name him

PS he is a reformed man now.

seriously though it hit me when i was being booked in at the station and they booking officer asked me to remove my belt and laces. i asked him why. he replied so you don't kill yourself in custody. The enormity of the situation hit me and i was close to tears if i'm honest :(

  5. Ibti,

Wa waxad ka miid ahey the terrorist JB uu sheegaye>?

LOl far from it. got high on khat the $100 kind, note i dont eat the stuff ever, and drove right up to the back gates of the presidential palace whilst as high as a kite at 2am.

warming shots were fired and i was dragged out of the jeep and abused by the animals/guards.

never heard so much profanity in my life. sat on the dusty road at 2am surrounded by AK yielding thugs and was actually relieved when i saw the blues and twos of the coppers. :D

showed my ID and tried to prove i wasnt a terrorist, understandably they were on high alert after the terrorist suicide attacks.

anyway spent the night in Saldhiga dhexe. Horrible experience, some crazy Mo-Ph**kers there. :(

lets just say i couldnt sleep due to adrenaline overload. Dad sent a some dude out who brought me supplies and he bribed the guards to put me in my own cell, and not general lock up.

anyway due to red tape i wasnt released for a further 24hrs. the old man spoke to head of police and he couldnt do anything as i was supposedly under the custody of the presidential guards and had to wait until their boss woke up the next day  so much bureaucracy its unreal.

lets just say thats the last and first time i went near that stuff

  6. LOL Caadan daaqan ceeliss, i think he though i was from a minority tribe or something.

One can only hope. The country has such potential for a relatively small population of 2.5 million. I went to almost every major town and city and i can almost guarantee you that the population of Somaliland is nowhere near the projected 3.5 million.

its so small infact that most people i met in hargeisa knew about my detention by the presidential guards for 24hrs the moment i was released. But thats a topic for another day. LOL. :D

Haregisa i would estimate maxium 600,000 to 650,000.

first question reer hargeisa usually ask is what neighbourhhod are you from, code for what tribe are you. Why dont you just come out and ask me directly

  7. what i can't understand is why there is always a very slim margin of victory for the winning party.

how can so many people vote for Udub despite their current record.

Udub has jeopardised the peace at times and left with a woeful track record in government. Cawil and the likes should be put on trial for embesslement of state funds. I saw with my own eyes his bribing of Gurti elders at my hotel 2 years ago.

he even had the nerve to ask me for a tea as i walked past his table. to which i replied firmly; I DO NOT WORK HERE. trying desperately to keep in my hate for the man in check.

Arrogant, corrupt and kleptocratic, just a few of the words i have to describe Udub and its upper echelons.

Today we may be practising democracy but the truth is its a thinly veiled tribal system thats still at play. Who knows maybe with enough investment in education we may transisition away from the primitive tribal stuff.

Inshallah the next 5 years bring a peace loving, productive and more equitable form of government for the people.

I went to Somaliland two years ago for the first time full of hope and promise and enthusiasm. I came back dejected and thoroughly crushed by the things I had seen, especially in the electoral commission where I had been working.

A small example that once extrapolated paints a not so nice image of our society.

First day at the commission I was given my own office and keys and introduced to security people by one of the commissioners. He goes off on a trip and leaves me to carry out my research. I then meet head of security who decides I don’t deserve my privileges and proceeds to confiscate my keys. He relegated me to a smaller office to share with the administrative staff of the commission. I did not complain, and then he proceeded to take away my parking privileges, I was no longer allowed to park inside the compound. This guy was making life difficult for me, and I decided to put it behind me and get on with my work.

Two weeks later I was having dinner at a prominent Hargeisa residents house with my father and guess who’s at the table. The man who had made my life hell at the commission for the last 2 weeks. He embraces my father in hugs and looks over towards me and I give him an acknowledging nod to ease the tension. Who is this young man he asks my dad. To which dad replies he’s my youngest born and explains what I’m doing in Hargeisa.

To cut a long story short the man and I turned out to be from the same tribe and even sub tribe i think, he apologised and gave me back my privileges. He said if I had told him who I was (my full name) he wouldn’t have treated me the way he did.

You see it is this tribal virus hardwired into the blood of our people that most worries me. It’s a cancer at the heart of our people.

On a brighter note I found young people my age are less inclined to be tribal and as a result I made many long lasting friendships all over town. So the future can’t be all bad. But we face monumental challenges.

  8. my friends dad is a freemason so he claims. Never really had the balls to ask his dad outright.

from their mission statement they sound like a cool bunch of middle aged dudes. Kind of like what one does when golf becomes too boring. :D

  9. kaye, if you know this individuals name ( i mean his first three names) and what tribe or sub-clan he hails from and where you last saw him/lived/worked.

then it may be possible to get into contact with him again (if he's alive)

Assuming all that then i believe finding him should'nt be too diffcult, may take a while but ultimately he will be located.

i have found numerous old friends on this manner. The most recent one of which is all the way in Australia. :D

just tap into the tribal database

    just a thought smile.gif

  10. will there be some satellite coverage, i've never seen any somali team play before, just see their results on stat sites.

Somalis need to tap into talent from the rest of the world to stand a chance of being successful.

but i guess the SFA is cash strapped.

  11. damon albarn, for this song... musical genius

love the electro, african/french vibe. Plus Mariams voice is captivating.

their love story is also inspiring. smile.gif song is about wisdom, patience and second chances.
