I remember reading George Orwell’s The Road to Wigan Pier in school and in it he talks about the Three England’s. There was the England of the bleak industrial north, the England of the rural traditional countryside and the England of the South which was of the emerging consumer industries. This was just before the onset of WWII, and unfortunately the realities depicted in the book of poor northern living conditions has stayed in the psyche of southerners ever since. What people fail to realise is the warmth and friendly nature of people from the north. The city of Liverpool doesn’t help with the image of northerners

Will Somali society become more religious or secular in the future?
Archdemos replied to General Duke's topic in General
The trend is definitely growing. More and more young people are becoming more interested in their religion. The only development that worries me is the mixing of religion and politics, and the overtly emotional rhetoric that is attached to the USA’s imperialist ambitions. What is clear though is there is definitely a battle of ideas going on within Islam itself. However there is somewhat of a generational gap within the UK itself. This new breed of ultra rabid mongrel Somalis I’m seeing lately has no basis of culture let alone religion. Emotive i know, but they are disgrace to all Somalis. -
There was me thinking Norfsky meant someone who was from Norfolk. Norfsky is Somali for a northerner Myth Busted
-
Nin-brown constantly refers to Norfsky as Northerner, Ibti just referred to him as North. what is this freudian slip?

^^ I get the impression that Ngonge is in his late 30’s if not early 40’s, Tell me if I’m correct old wise one of SOL. The prize of being the oldest goes to awoowe Odeweyne.
-
^^yeah i thought so also, so gave it a miss. cheers anyhow.

its quite complicated, so if it works for me i'll post a detailed step by step guide for you to follow. I'm having a bit of trouble and i'm a seasoned pro at this kind of stuff.

Thanks for all the info guys; I’ve bookmarked quite a few of those websites. Serenity I particularly liked International House, brilliant structure and just the right environment. I’ll definitely be checking it out after Ramadan, inshallah. In your experience how long on average does it take to learn Arabic in general? I’m a quick learner and quite a dedicated person once I set my sights on achieving a goal. Many thanks to those who took the time to posted links and suggestions. Nina I’m currently downloading Rosetta Stone V3.4.5 Arabic Level 1,2 & 3 Set with Audio, so well on my way. Exciting stuff ladies and gents.

Okay wonderful Nomads of SOL, i have decided to learn the language of Arabic fluently. There are many reasons for my wanting to learn, however the primary reason is for religious purposes. I went through the customary Islamic schooling as a child and I’m familiar with the alphabet. I can even begin to read, although it’s a struggle. I need a reliable, highly rated tutor/night school, were I can take structured lessons. Any info sincerely welcomed. Ps! on a positive note i have many friends i can practise on. North/central/West london only

easy now GaroweGal. no need to hate on the fella just because he from Somaliland. yes you know the self declared defacto state North west of Garowe. so what your from Puntland, the guy is Somali first and you should support him regardless of which region he hails from. if there was a runner garnering headlines from Puntland, i would be proud of him and i'll claiming him, because he is a SOMALI first.

^^one can only hope. he's a cool dude either way.

^^agreed, however Bile won the world championships, which is only second to the Olympics itself. Farah is a hardworking athlete and a likable guy; however he is currently a medium sized fish in a small pond. He is ranked in the 20 something in the world. He didn’t even qualify for the finals in Beijing. He has room to improve though, so you never know what the future could hold for him. Bile mixed it with the best and won. Farah has yet to do so.
-
^^LOL 99% are you serious. Anyway on a different note. Bile was the more accomplished athlete. A true world beater and a world champion. He rose to the top of his field. So in that respects there is no comparison.
-
^^ LOL @ Ibti. Watch it, its quite interesting. leaves wondering what the hell you've just watched. The ending is awesome though. Nothing dirty as in explicit content Lol@ Karl

Sad day in Sillyland!! burn-babe-burn. what an oxymoron Rudy. You call it Sillyland , and in the same sentence write burn babe burn, yet.... whats so sad about the situation. Your writings explicitly highlights your stance. So don't be sad, rejoice, and hope for "burn babe burn". or have i completely misconstrued your point Rudy

not too bad, just taking a break from work myself, going on a little tour of Grimsby, Skegness and lincol city with some mates for the week. Go-karting, swimming, mountain biking, golf anything to get out of the city for a while.
-
^^going anywhere nice Ibti?
-
i hear things are heating up in the capital. Inshallah it doesnt come to drastic measures. The new admin has a clear mandate to rule. regardless of cabinet makeup the buck stops with Silanyo.

dont you have anything better to do.

^^ two old schoolers. former minsiters and ambassadors. Together they have over 50's experience in international relations. Educated, level headed and they ooze class.

I agree with Oodweyne on this. I am somewhat disappointed with these appointments. The stench of old school qabilist is aplenty. What happened to the rhetoric of change, of progressive politics? I see a like for like change in the finance ministry At least we should give them the chance to see how they will do. Two men I would have loved to see in this cabinet were; Cusman abdilahi Seylici Yusuf Jamac Buraale
