It's remarkable that such a character now acknowledges his mistakes in the past and utters the high praises whereas before it was all spitefulness. I praise the government of Puntland in showing not any animosity and brining former enemies into the State so that they see for themselves what Puntland is about. Every Somali whether friend or foe needs to come to Puntland and experience the land and the people, the cities and villages in order for them to see and learn from those experiences. The 15 teams from the 15 regions as I hear from the organisers, some who are over 1,500 km2 apart from where the games where held in peaceful Garoowe said that they have no intention of returning and some of the farewell parties tears were shed and as today all the southern teams are in Garoowe only the Puntland teams have left, these speaks for their desire in staying in a peaceful climate and where they can actually found employment such is their likening to Puntland. Without this and the people coming together it wouldn't have been possible. Indeed this 18th Tournament brining together 15 regions was a historic one that will be remembered not only for the game and winner Banadir but for people like Tarzan who came to Puntland on his first visit ever and which showed that Puntland isn't a place of vengeance or even grudges held. For that kudos to the State and the People. Sports is a tool for brining together the fiercest nemesis and where friendship can be harboured and forged between the different spectra.

You know Garowe had held successfully such a conference whereby Puntland was established whereby a delegation of over 1000 participants came to the city from the 5 regions Mudug, Nugaal, Bari, Sool&Ayn and Sanaag in 1998 where Puntland was established. Puntland and Garowe are specially rehearsed in such conferences that produce tangible outcomes to strengthening peace and social cohesion. This time around it shouldn't be any different.

CAF and Fifa are echoing the sentiments and the feeling of pride restored and emotions we have had the past two weeks or so when the 18th National Football Tournament was first opened by President Farole and the first game was kicked off in Garowe. These spectacle being one of a time and historic as 15 regions within Somalia participated in the tournament and was the first games held since 1987 for more then 22 years there were no games held and even the last games the best 8 teams would participate in the national tournament held in Mogadishu but Puntland outpassed that and 15 teams participated this time around.

December 2010 The president of the semiautonomous north-eastern Somali state of Puntland which is currently hosting the regional Somali football tournament on Thursday held a luncheon for top level dignitaries from Somali Olympic committee and Somali Football Federation, during which discussed on how to use sport as a tool to quell wars in Somalia. Somalia’s first ever national football team captain Mohamed Qalaf Aden (Shangole), Somalia’s 1987 World 1500m champion Abdi Bile Abdi and a dozen of football legends were present at the luncheon which was held at the presidential palace in Garowe on Thursday. “I am very delighted that the government of Puntland and its people took the responsibility of hosting the precious peace tournament and I say thanks to Somali Football Federation for organizing such tournament in Somalia for the first time in more than 22 years—this was really a great job” President Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Faroole said during the luncheon. ”Holding this tournament was a sign that Somali people can be assembled under sports for peace and I am happy that we have really shown the international community that Somalis are still together” the president said adding that he loves sports very much, but doesn’t play a ball. Somali sporting dignitaries who were present at Thursday’s luncheon were: Somali NOC first vice president and head of international relations Duran Ahmed Farah, Somali NOC secretary General Abdullahi Ahmed Tarabi, Somali Football Federation President Said Mahmoud Nur, his secretary General Abdi Qani Said Arab, and Somali NOC office manager Mohamed Abdo Hajji. As well as former national team players, Hussein Ali Abdulle, Yusuf Mohamed Jama (James), Ahmed Dahir, Mohamed Ibrahim Absuge (Adkeysi) and Mohamed Hajji Urey were also present at the honor lunch held at the Puntland presidential palace on Thursday.
