    LIVE 8

Zephyrine You missed Coldplay!! Absolute disaster. *Gives consoling pat on shoulder P.S i saw some hijabified somali looking chick distantly in the crowd perhaps it was you?. watched Live 8 live down under. Only wished I was there. . Now i guess all eyes will be on Scotland and the G8 summit. Hopefully a helluva alot of people will come. Best case scenario the G8 summit wont know what hit them. Worst case scenario protestors get interupted by playing golf and eating haggis. (sorry very poor joke) Now back to the topic. The way i see it poverty in Africa cannot be solved alone by Africans or by Europeans it would take a collective effort. The whole point of live 8 was to raise the awareness of the G8 public. The citizens of these nations would place added pressure on their leaders to deliver on promises to increase aid, remove debt and create more fair trade practices. All of which would improve the situation in Africa. Live 8 wont remove poverty in Africa in the short term but its a commendable start. I have to say the concern shown by your everyday bloke/sheila was probably one of the greatest successes of Live8 . So im all for it. Big ups to Bob. Make Poverty History, Make Trade Fair, Control Arms.
  4. I have alot of admiration for Oprah. So if what u say is correct then thats a real pity. Remember there are alot of people who have a very distorted image of muslim women not just Oprah. It would have been great if she/her staff could have researched the story a bit more and not reinforced misconceptions about muslim women or in this case Saudi women. Problem is muslim women have been portrayed as oppressed chattels for a very long time. It reached its peak during colonialisation. Orientalists during this period wrote books which supposedly explained the culture and customs of the Islamic world. It was always portrayed as inferior hence giving authority to conquer. This literature in turn was adopted by misguided feminists who have equated the hijab and Islam with female oppression. No one has attempted to displace any of these notions in the west. Some Muslim nations havent exactly been helping to displace these ideas in the "west" either . In any case didnt Oprah do a show called Islam 101 a while back. Never saw it but was told it was good. As Salah U Din said u should send ur letter in. Never know u might be invited on the show. P.S chill out  i was like u (going bezerk when confronted with LIES) but after a while high blood pressure is no fun.
  5. STOIC an improvement for sure *returns to watch BBC world
  6. Fox ey? come on we all know that it has no credibility whatsoever. This neo-con mouthpeice can never be regarded as either "fair" or "balanced". Comparing Hitler to Saddam ey? If u ask me im not suprised that Fox would come up with something so pathetic. Hitler was repsonsible for the systematic murders of over 6 million jews plus numerous others. How many deaths was Saddam responsible for?? Far less i assume. But like i said.. Fox News is neither credible or informed.
  7. I spent quite alot of time intentionally ignoring this topic...the whole "girls gone wild" didnt appeal to me despite its reference to Australians. Now this obviously a late reply and for those of you already sick of this topic my deepest apologies for reintroducing it. Ill keep this short and sweet (well that part is arguable) Since I have a pretty good knowledge of both Melbourne and Perth (believe me) and have also spent some time in Sydney..Here are my conclusions. 1. Sydney water is terrible compared to Melbourne water...(Arent i completly unbiased ) 2. There is no difference between the somali communities in Sydney, Melb or Perth--the majority of somalis from Perth came from Melb/Syd and typical nomads we are families constantly relocate amongst these cities and the others i havent mentioned namely Brisbane n Adelaide. 3.Now the fact of the matter is if u are from Sydney ur obliged to dislike people from Melbourne- Victoria "the place to be" and vice versa it is a natural rivalry which began prior to federation and has unforunatly popped its superficial head up in our somali community.--Do we really have nothing betta to get annoyed about? 4. Rahima i wll have to disagree on one point education standards in Perth are very advanced. It is even said that the high school standard in WA is the highest in the country. 5. I have exams to study for and I really should not be spending much time here so back to original post topic. Just one of those stories that happens very rarely but everyone knows about.Would say more but can't be stuffed.
  8. Ole Farah , what are u saying? ur not seriously intending to pick any random somali chick to tell her u love her  . -Big mistake they wont fall for it that easy. Continuing on from what Afro said the purpose of a thread title is to give an indication of what will be in the thread.
  9. I salute these women. Just reading this article just proves that khat is Haram and needs to be banned. These men are not meeting their Islamic duties they are completly pathetic. I could continue male bashing only i have heard enough to suggest that women are just as blameworthy (treatment of sons compared to daughters by mothers etc). We need a new Arowello..
  10. Innaa Lillaahi Wa Innaa Ilayhi Raajicuun walaal may Allah provide you the strength to pull through this difficult time. Know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. Amiin to all the ducas before me.
  11. So the Oromos think they can take over somali territory do they? Oromos arent oromos anymore anywayz a large chunk intermarried with amaharas and practically consider themselves amaharas.. In the meantime I have heard the city of Galcayo was once an oromo owned... well they still have a long way to go.
  12. oops just realised i didnt read page 2.. and this is supposedly an old post my bad.
  13. I was under the impression that Rudy was already married with kids
  14. I suppose this is good. But Che Guevera would have looked soo much cooler.
  15. Dude i know its old....But like i live on the otherside of the world. We dont get all the rappers here only the commercial stuff 50 cent etc...unless u really into hip hop u wont even get to hear anything from Mos Def, Talib Kweli etc etc so for Kenaan to be on aussie tv is a big thing.... well atleast in my opinion.
  16. wow.... wonder if Kenaan knows he was on MTV Australia. Jus a little interview and his video. Though i think it was a show for new music that will be on rotation. It looks like we have alot to look foward to...considering the dude is quite articulate and hasnt forgotten his roots. and the host I quote said of his music "how cool is that!"
  17. Wlc to SOL, To your question why do i come to somaliaonline? Well to remind myself that not all the brothaz are highschool drop outs and that the sistahs are not all gossispy girls who go from aroos to aroos like f1 drivers on international circuits. Mind u i know they aint its just i consistently keep stumbling into them. But mainly cause ive seen some of the funniest and interesting people right here. oh and back to what Qac Qaac said "To see how my fellow nomads think around the world.. "
  18. A few episodes of Maximum Exposure is enough proof of the ********* (at times) of the male species and so it is expected that they would not appreciate a successful woman. Hey how come i cant say St****ty but they can call men worse?
  19. I found this site. Im lovin the Chic sound track.....hint* get above 200kph. fun game

    Coffee

Ambassador... i think that means u need some more sleep instead of stronger coffee. "cappuchinos are for babies" well like i said i dont drink the stuff
  21. -Nomadique-

    Coffee

Im the only Somali person that does not drink either tea or coffee. I have yet to meet any others...mind u the smell of a good cappuchino on a winters day is not too bad.
  22. F1 nowadays is way to predicatble. As succesfull as Schumacher is its all thanks to his team and their giant budget. Ah!! I could only imagine what would have happened had Jean Alesi (my favourite when was still in the F1) been given the chance with a bearable team instead of being with Prost before it folded. Mind you I hear Valentino Rossi may be switiching to F1 that may be very interesting... ... Just realised this is an old topic..but hey im on 100 posts
