You don't believe me, don't take my word for it, check out its website and take a look for yourself. offcouse, it's for those of you who are planing to go there, however everyone else's critism is welcome as usual. check out these pics http://www.halganews.com/oryaltal/OrientalHotel.htm Assalamu calaykum.

Originally posted by makalajabti: I am not angry and frustated walaal because I was born in a free country, I have never lived under the Sharia rules, so I have never experienced inequality or discrimination I have never lived under Sharia rules,so I have never experienced inequality or discrimination due to the fact I am a woman. However, I am aware of the fact that muslims women (in most muslim countries) live differently (they must wear Hijab to start with and I am not talking about their human rights). Now if you don't wanna put the blame on Islam, what's left? Men and Patriarchal societies. Hence my point. I know my deen but still knowing our deen doesn't mean turning a blind eye to muslim women's plight. People think weird: they think the more religious you are, the more you won't open yout mouth and criticise your muslim brothers and sisters. Abdul-noor, I am not a teenager so quit being condescending. Muslim world is in deep mess and ignoring the problems is not the best solution. Subaxana Allah sister, do you really think living under the rule of Allah creates inequality? After all sister can you tell me who does more justice; Allah or a human being? Surely sister you are heading a lonely and dark path which may lead you to unpleasant place. Take the advice of your brother Abdulnoor, it's trully a useful advice that he provided if you only knew. Take a look at these verses and digest the meaning of these verses from glorius Quran. "4.139": Those who take the unbelievers for guardians rather than believers. Do they seek honor from them? Then surely all honor is for Allah. in another verse. "4.19": O you who believe! it is not lawful for you that you should take women as heritage against (their) will, and do not straighten them in order that you may take part of what you have given them, unless they are guilty of manifest indecency, and treat them kindly; then if you hate them, it may be that you dislike a thing while Allah has placed abundant good in it. If some who claimed to be Muslim men have taken away the rights of Muslim women then that is indeed an error commited by individuals. It has nothing to do with what our rule of law in Islam has put out. If anything it's going against the rule of Allah exalted is he in might. No reason for you to reach the conclusions that our Sharia has given the superiority and rightfulness to men over women. There is no where in the Quran or the Hadith it says that men are above women however, the Quran states that men should take responsibilty of the family. The fact that man should treat his wife, children well is part of his the responsibility that he needs to fulfil, if he does otherwise then you must know that he has misachieved and will be held responsible by Allah, exalted. Man can be wrong at times, that is the reason we have Islamic Sharia in place; to correct those who are in error. Everybody who thinks rationally knows that Islam is the way to solving the problems of mankind, it benefits those who acquire it. Please, Sister don't turn to a strange rule created by man and don't turn away from the rule of God which is the salvation of all problems. It doesn't make sense for me to do that and it shouldn't for you either, because we have already being blessed with the best in the world; Islam. We should choose to follow the prophet peace be upon him on everything he did or said. That is the straight path which will lead us to the paradise, anything else is just pure demons work and will suffer a severe punishment from Allah. "4.85": Whoever joins himself (to another) in a good cause shall have a share of it, and whoever joins himself (to another) in an evil cause shall have the responsibility of it, and Allah controls all things. Finally, I will like to urge all the sisters who have agreed with being "Liberated" to give up this dark stand and comeback to their lord. He knows what is best for you and definately man doesn't know what benefits you. After all who knows more about you; your creator or the created one? that is certainly a question to think about. "4.89": They desire that you should disbelieve as they have disbelieved, so that you might be (all) alike; therefore take not from among them friends until they fly (their homes) in Allah's way; but if they turn back, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them, and take not from among them a friend or a helper". Suratu Nissa. "Then as for those who believe and do good, He will pay them fully their rewards and give them more out of His grace; and as for those who disdain and are proud, He will chastise them with a painful chastisement. And they shall not find for themselves besides Allah a guardian or a helper" Suratul Nissa. I think you don't want to be among those, do you? "4.176": They ask you for a decision of the law. Say: Allah gives you a decision concerning the person who has neither parents nor offspring; if a man dies (and) he has no son and he has a sister, she shall have half of what he leaves, and he shall be her heir she has no son; but if there be two (sisters), they shall have two-thirds of what he leaves; and if there are brethren, men and women, then the male shall have the like of the portion of two females; Allah makes clear to you, lest you err; and Allah knows all things. Only Islam ladies and gentelmen, makes things so just and clear. It's only Islam!!! Assalamu Calaykum. The source of the Quranic verses: http://etext.virginia.edu/toc/modeng/public/HolKora.html
  3. ASSALAMU CALAYKUM, offcourse bro, Ethiopians were beaten badly all the way back to Diri Daba; their second capital. We captured all the Somali inhabited areas claimed by Ethiopia and there is no doubt we would have kept them under the control of the Somali army and Ethiopians wouldn't do a thing about it without the help of the Soviets. However, I do raise some questions about the tactics used, we could have continued to armed and support the WSLF until we weakened the Ethiopian army signifacantly. Instead we chose to join the war completely which I think wasn't good tactical move. That led the Soviets to turn on us and later caused us to lose the war. Whether that should have happen or not, it was prewritten by Allah but current situations between us Somalis has done far more damage to us than that war. We should raise more concern over the current affair of Somalis everywhere. That is all. Assalamu Calaykum.
  4. ASSALAMU CALAYKUM AbdulNoor may Allah reward your effort brother of trying to bring some sense into these girls'inds. May Allah save them from despair. I have question for those of you gils who think you have been liberated. My question is what exactly are you liberated from? Can anyone of you gils tell me who is that had you under contol. If you think wearing short skirs, puting on lipstick, walking down the street is liberation, then I would suggest you think head, because the consequence could be rape, abuse on the street, sinnful actions and so on. I am really saddened to hear that some girls think by unvieling their buaety to the public is what is going to make them free and empowered women, then I have really bad news for you, prepare yourself for the blazing of hellfire whose fuel is men (mankind) and stones. It's not so fun is it when you think about it that way? go head enjoy the short and joyful life of this life but in the hereafter you will live in despair and everlasting agony. For those who fear their lord and obey Allah and his messenger. For those believing women who chose to cover themselves from the toe to the top, be prepared the glad tiding and the everlasting pradise in the hereafer. I urge them to hold steadfast and stay firm on the straight path which will ultimately lead to good happy place known as Jenna and you will be please with by Allah. All you have to do is be patient and don't let yourself be influenced by the satan's actions. Let the "liberated women" joy their day or half a day of "liberation", after all Allah knows who is liberated the one who is the servant of Allah or the who is enslaved by the devil, I say the one who obeys Allah is. So woe to those who think being westernized is liberation and they chose to insult Muslims and the noble clothes of Islam (hijab). I can only shake my head and hope for Allah to rescue them, because allah is the one who guides and there is none to guide who is misguided other than Allah. Assalamu Calaykum.
  5. Assalamu Calaykum, I can only shake my head, this is total lie. The poeple of Somaliland don't need Muslim influence for they are already 100% Muslim. I don't think any one who even claims to be a Muslim can ever attempt to write such pathetic article. It seems the article did more to discredit Islam and the Muslims living in Somaliland than the recongnition which was the intentions of the article. Once again this is a total lie,Somaliland was in the middle of civil war when this article was dated, there was no such thing as Somaliland in 1995,the majority of the people were in refugees, Igal governments had no authority in any city except some parts of Hargyesa and I don't even thing he was a president, because he was voted into office in 1997. No way will I believe Igal wrote such thing or a Muslim person thought of such a filty article, NO way in Gassilion years my friend. Assalamu Calaykum.
  6. Assalamu Calaykum, Alxamdu Lilah verily all praise is due to Allah. If Allah chooses to guide someone there is none to misguide and if Allah misguides someone there is none that can guide and may peace and blessing be upon our beloved prophet Muxamed son of Abdallah and the seal of all messengers. After that. I don't agree with how some brothers have went about when it comes to answering your question. However, I don't know that you want someone to answer the question for you for your report in socialogy class or else, because for a Muslim to be asking that type of question in this day and age is trully sad to see. There is absolutely no excuse of any kind for you brother to not know what you were created for, because honestly let us examine the issue deeply and let us analyze your question. Your question is what is the purpose of life? meaning same thing as why was I created or what I am doing here? those are all similar questions to yours. I can except that type of question from non Muslim but for a Muslim to ask that type of question is utterly embarassing, don't get me wrong because I am not saying that you shouldn't have, but it's bit odd for a Muslim such as yourself to not know what he/she was brought to being. Obviously, you could be playing around or just want some poeple to respond to your post or maybe you have posted so you could give a chance for non Muslim to read the thread in case they visit this site, if that is the case may Allah reward you for it.But if in reality you are the one who wants to actually know what the purpose of life is then I suggest you think to your self and take a time to revaluate your life and where you need to go from here. Now let me try to answer from based on what I know from the teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah. Allah exalted is he in might said clearly in the noble Qur'an " Wamaa Khalaqtul Jinna wal inza illaa liyacbuduun". (suratul Jinn). Meaning "verily we haven't created the Jinn (unseen creatures) and Inz (visible creatures) except that they worship me (Allah). In another verse from the glorious Qur'an Allah says: Tabarakal ladii biyadihil mulku wahuwa calaakulli shay'in qadiir. Alladii Khalaqal mawta wal Xayaata layabluwakum ayyukum axsanu camalaa, the verse continues.(Tabarak or Mulk). If I to try to translate roughly the said verse. It means "Praise who in his hand is all the power(the kingdom and ownership of all things)and he who has the control and the grip of all( things, living or non living). He who creates the death and life to see who is better in doing the good manners. So you see brother Socod Badne we are created to worship Allah exalted is he, and to thank him for all that he has bestowed upon us. We are beneficiries of many things that we haven't paid for, the hands, the eyes, the ears, the functioning of the liver, the heart, the inhale and exhale of the lungs, and we don't pay a dime for them to function but all we have to do and that we have been created is for us to worship Allah the benefactor and recognise him. It's that alone and it's that simple no need for us to look the answer elsewhere, it's in our Qur'an which costs about few pounds or dollars so buy it or blow the dust from the one you probably already have and read, observe and dig out the answers yourself without anybody telling you what the purpose of life means or dealing the headache and the many nomads who get kick out of justing twinsting everything when asked something. After all you cannot travel without a map or atleast knowing where you are headed, because life is a journey which Allah has put us in so be well equiped in the way you worship Allah so you can be those whom Allah is pleased and yes this definately applies to everyone including myself. I can understand life in the west is really difficult but it won't be very difficult once you are on the straight path which leads you to the everlasting peace in paradise. Your heart will be in fine rest once and you start to see this whole world as a small and worthless "thing" once you become close to Allah and that is a bit of advice from me to you brother and to all as well as to myself. P.S. Sunnah means everything that wasn't emposed by Allah but however practiced by the prophet as a way for us to earn extra credit. You know like school you don't have to do the extra credit to earn the extra credit points but it's way for you to catch up if you are little behind. Sunnah is optional but verily recomended to raise our faith or Eman. Furthermore, please Brother Socod Badne ignore the negatives said by others and take from those who said it best and May Allah guide us ALL to the straight path insha Allah. Assalamu Calaykum.
  7. ASSALAMU CALAYKUM, If they build it just exactly as they designed it, it would be very nice fecility to shop . I won't be critical but is there any doubt that the end of the world is near? because from Hargeysa to Galkacayo people are building shopping centers, hotels, villas etc. while many people can't find drop of water to drink for the sake of their lives. May Allah save us. Assalamu Calaykum.
  8. Assalamu Calaykum, brother Sayyid I will answer your call in which you have requested from me that I shall not post any meaningless articles which could create deep divisions amongst nomads in this discussion forum. I thank you for your advice personally and I shall end such postings that don't benefit anyone in the future insha Allah. Also I apologize if I have wronged you brother in anyway shape or perfom for we are brothers in Somalism and in Islam.Furthermore, I urge you to also continue on to make sure this extends to every nomad who posts such a meaningless postings so we can create good clean space to have good and important discussions that shall benefit all of us. Once again thanks Sayyid for coming to understanding with me in this matter for the greater good of both of us. Assalamu Calaykum warahma.
  9. ASSALAMU CALAYKUM, Brother Sayyid without doing a damage to your credibility, I would like to say few things on my behave in order to bring this unecessary roughness to an end. I believe you have gotten the wrong idea about me,because as you are aware I didn't write whatever that I have posted, but rather I have posted them in order to get your opinion, that was my intention and only intention and if you have any doubt that I have posted this for any other intentions and conflict between nomads who hail from each respective region then brother you are totally wrong about that and you owe me an apology for that. The news that I have posted didn't fall on any deaf ears as far as I know it, but you were the first one to mis interpret it. Cadde Muse is a politician and he is considered a leader of a state, so my question was since he is a leader of a state which has many tribes living in it then why would he mention the names of those tribes in negative manner in public press instead of just overviewing the situation? As you are aware, I am from the north and anything that happens in that region whether it takes place in Somaliland or Puntland, it interests me more than the other regions in Somalia, hence that I always post things that happen in Somaliland or Puntland state. What Cadde Muse said is a sure thing and there is no denying it unless you choose to but it has been said. I am not saying he sinned or said something that was absolutely out of line but rather it was suprising for a leader to mention a tribe's name in not so good way, since he knew that Somalis are triggered by some comments like that naturally speaking. So I thought since we are in forum which was desinged for us to have discussions openly and intellectually, you would have your say about the subject for which I have started in a respectable manner without directly coming after the one who copied and pasted. As I have said in my previous thread that the citizens of Sool and Sanaag are no different than those living else where in Somali soil even more so in Togdheer, my native state. Which in turn means that we don't belong in seperate communities but rather same community who share same values more so than other Somalis. If you are saying they are not your tribe, then yes there are nomads ( Soo Maal, Kashanre, and more) who are from that tribe for which I developed close of relationship as anybody. They have responded to this thread in productive way rather than leaping from the topic. If anybody would have the right to doubt me, then it's them brothers from Sool and Sanaag regions who actaully did responded in expressed their opinions in good fashion that benefited all of us. They chose to tackle the issue of Sool and Sanaag in more civilized way and you chose the low road of attacking and discreding your fellow nomad without a reason whatsoever other than that you labeled me as "diradirale" waciyaadu BilAllah for which I am clearly not. If that was the case, I would have to ask myself what do I get for doing that other than a punishment and distancing myself from Allah? and you must know brother that I do have some Iman for which you didn't give me any credit for it . So I think shaydaan baa isku kaa sawiray ee isdaji adoo raali ah aflagaadana gaysan. Xadiiskaa aad soo dhajisayna Allah dhamaanteen ha inagu anfaco, Dhamaanteenba. The Hadith you have posted also applies to you for unreasonably doubting a brother continuisly for I am your brother and you need to realize that, because you overlooked that I am also your blood or as you said laba qof oo laba habrood kala dhaleen. Shaydaanka iska naar oo arinta hasii fogayn ana wax ha ii dhimin naftaadana iyo sharaftaadana wax ha ka dhimin. So what do you say we drop the load here, because it's up to you if you want to continue on, but I have decided to let the horse right here, right now. I want to end before it gets unhealthy for both of us. So what do you say brother should we end it right here and obey the prophet's words of Muslim Akhul Muslim. I hope you agree. Wabil Allahi Tawfiiq and Wasalamu Calaykum.

  11. Assalamu Calaykum, That was all funny guys, but here is another one that happened in Somalia. Back in the day when we had Hargeysa and Muqdisho under same adminstration. It goes like this. Once upon a time a truck full of passengers drove from Moqdisho to Hargeysa. On the truck there was Northerner and lady from the South. The lady recently visited the country from somewhere in the United states or Britain. So she kind a had the English language still lingering in her ears. As you can imagine the truck was full so people had to really be patient with each other. As the trip went along, the ladies' legs touch the Northerner guy everytime she stretches. Then she would say "Iskuusme" (Excuse me), the guy thought she said iskuus in somali. So every time her feet touch him, she would say iskuusme and the guy would crouch together in respect. When the end of their trip was near, she said it again "Iskuusme" the guy stood up in loud voice screaming in Somali " naa tan iyo Xamar ayaan iskuusanee naga tag". Assalamu Calaykum.
  12. Assalamu Calaykum, Good jokes diagaale indeed, although I didn't like the content of the jokes. Nevertheless, I will also tell you good joke since you started this whole thing for once. Ok it goes like this, Once upon a time there was this Somali lady who wanted to take the bus when she arrived at the bus stop she diddn't know if the bus had left or not, so she turned to of the poeple standing at the bus stop to ask if the bus she was looking for which was bus #18 had left. The somali lady said to a guy standing near by. "Hooyo bus lumber 18 xoving( moving) she meant bus number 18 moved away. Another one, there was this somali lady whom was getting interviewed for some legal documents when she was asked her age and she said " I am dirty (thirty) and my husband is dirty( thirty two) too. If pronounce thirty with the American excent you will kind a get the choke. Get it. That's all for me.

Walaal waad ku mahadsantahay runahantiina caqligaaga ayaad ka hadashay. Thanks for that, the reason I have posted was also for you to speak your mind and post your opinion about the subject. Tan kale waa arrin layaab ah waxaad maanta laso shir tagtay, oo waxaan ku malaynayeey nin wadaad ah ee dadka kala qariya, laakiinse wax kale ayaad itustay. Let me just start off by saying that I thank all others for posting their opinions for which they are entitled to about the subject at hand; Cadde's comments. Secondly, to my brother Ducaqabe, brother, unless you have been paying attention, I always post questions and political related topics here on the political section in order to get the opinions of other whether I disagree with them or not. After all isn't this what the political section of SOL is about? Furthermore, for your information, the article that I have posted was retrieved from a website, which answers the questions that I have nothing to do with the opinions and report that are included in the artcle. The only reason I have posted was for you to express you feelings and your opinions in logical way, Everyone else did it, but you seem to be the sole one to directly go after me , as they say "don't shoot the messanger". So brother, would I be asking too much if I asked you to express your opinions about the article rather the person who has posted it. In addition, if being a wadaad is about( religious figure) is about praying five times a day, reading the Quran, practicing the Hadith, and obeying his lord, then I could honestly say that I fit in that category. If posting an article related to politics is what makes one undoes being a Wadaad then I had no idea and I wait you to elighten me on where in the Quran and the Sunnah it says otherwise. Waxaan kaloo aan ku tusay maxay tahay? Ma soo dhajinta warkan kasoo jeedhay Cadde Muse ayaan xagaaga isbedel ka keentay sida aad ii aragto? Waa war layaab leh iguna ah qariib, waxaan idhi waxay ahayd fikrad aan qabo anigu, mana aha mid aan iskaga hor keenayo dad walaalo ah waayo meesha dad isku *** laguma jiro awoodna uma lihi aan isku diro, markaa ha igu xad gudbin sheekh. Cala kuli xaal, akhi I only say this to you, which is that there is a soomaali proverb, which means something along the line "Don't try to get in between (advantage) two brothers because at the end of the day, it is you who will loose out because brothers will always be brothers. So in your opinion, the reason I have posted was to creat a rift between the brotherly love people who live in Sool, Sanaag and Bari. I don't think so brother. What do I get for being a namiim?other than a punishment from Allah. The people you are calling your brothers are also my brothers and more specifly they ar my poeple. They always were my brothers and will remain to be so in the future. Tan kale nimanka aad sheegeesid waa dad walaalahay ah, oo waxaanu nahay isku bah (hooyo) iyo waliba isku aabo, anagay nala yahiin kana tissanyihiin, oo dadka kale ayaan iska xigana. )yahiin kana tirsanyahiin, oo dadka kale ayaan iska xigana. I am not applying in any way, that what he said was right but I hope you get the message I am trying to tell you! Wow, so you are that kind of person yourself, you are trying to advice me that Sool and Sanaag citizens are your people. Well brother I know they are and you must know that they are also part of who I am and my closest ones to me. If what your suggesting is that they are related to you clan wise, then I want no part of your dicussion for you clearly have taken this topic out of context and taken to different territory. I want no part and I don't want to know how they are related to you all I know that all Muslims and Somalis are brothers and sisters, I don't want to know anymore or any less period. For example hadeey "habro" is diriraan oo aan anigu dhex galno si aan lilaahi ahayn oo isku dira ku jidha, aakhirkana markay "habraha" ay heshiiyaniin, soo meel cidla ah soo miyeenin ku soo dhicaynin because "habraha" ayagaa iska kay yaqaaniin, wayna iska kay jecelyahiin, sida aniga iyo kuwa aad hada tilmaamaysid aan isku bah nahay oo aanin kala maarmin, waana soo dhoweyneyna waana loo baahanahay. Waligaaba habar habar lee. What are you talking about now? I am sorry for I have trouble understnading of where you are going with this topic. Wax kale ayaan kuu sheegi walaal, sida anigu businesska "habraha" u soo dhaxgelin adiguna ha isku dayin in aad nala dhex shaqaysid ama nala faaidaysatid, illeyn nin muslim ahi ayaad isku tilmaamaysayee. So now you are backing off hey? no need for that I understnand your position keep it coming. Maxaan ka faaidaysanaya ee meesha ka jira. Runtii adoo qof Muslim ah in aad iga shakido waa khalad aad u wayn. Hadii kuugu ciliyo, anigu qofna kama faa idaysanyo, awoodna uma lihi sxb. P.S. "Habraha" is an example relating to "old woman" and not necessary a clan and whoever interprets it like that, it's his own interpretation but I am not responsible for any grievances because I didn't meant anything with it. It's the only example I could think off because old ladies generally like to "fight" each other! I know well what habro means, whether I related to clan base or not I know where your intentions are headed. Finally brother, if you want to go and write all that nonsense so you could prove to me that Sool, Sanaag citizens are related to those who live in Bari, well I can sadly say that I knew it all along and you didn't have to go through that. It would mean alot if you responded to the topic itslef rather coming at me. Assalamu Calaykum and have wonderful day.
  14. Assalamu Calaykum, Many poeple are going around asking this very question on why someone who calls himself a leader of a state would make such a offensive comments that were offensive to his state citizens. I for one don't understand as to why he said it since it takes something like this to trigger a whole tribe. Anyways he said it and the citizens of Sanag and some parts of Sool aren't really happy right now with Cade Muse. One more thing that also deserves to be mentioned is that Cade Muse was also protested against when he went to Las Anod few days ago for mix reasons regarding the oil and the passing away of the Garaad. He was stoned thrown, because he was probably late or something with that effect. 15. Assalamu Calaykum I have found this article which really in my opinion underlines all the things that await to be done by the Riyale adminstration as well as Somaliland citizens themselves. In my view it's faily well written and sheds a light on all the areas that Somaliland can still improve on rather than puting all the efforts towards pushing for recognition from the Europeans. Whether reconginition comes or not, we can still do alot of things without anybody's help except all mighty. The priorities and the urgent task before our government. Feb-15-2006 IM. Abdi Halim M. Musa The people of Somaliland delivered their verdict and the verdict is clear. They have sought a change in the manner in which this country is run, a change in national priorities, and a change in the processes and focus of governance. They have, through their mandate, made it clear that economic growth has to be accompanied by equity and social justice. They have expressed concern for the poor and disadvantaged sections of our society and for minorities and backward regions to be at the heart of all policies of the government. As I share with you the priorities of our government, I am reminded a quote of the famous hero of India Mahatma Gandhi said that his mission in life was “to wipe every tear from every eye.†That message resonates in our ears as we settle down to the business of government. The Address of the President of Somaliland to the new Parliament outlines a comprehensive agenda for the nation to which our government is committed. Parliament is a forum which is sacred and it must be our collective endeavour to ensure that we maximize its effectiveness. I request parties across the entire political spectrum to respect Parliament as an essential forum for public debate so that we can move forward on the task of nation building which is a common goal for one and all. We can justly take pride in the fact that since Independence we have been able, with our efforts, to build the foundations of a modern economy and record acceleration in the rate of economic growth. There have been impressive gains in terms of the educational and health status of the nation. However, the benefits of this performance have not touched all our citizens in equal measure. Growth is not an end in itself. It is a means to generate employment, banish poverty, hunger and homelessness and improve the standard of living of the mass of our people. It must also be environmentally sustainable. Equity and efficiency are complimentary, not contradictory, and we must move forward on both these while maintaining a high degree of fiscal and financial discipline, and a robust external economic profile. To be able to devote our attention and energy to economic development that improves the lives of our people, we must ensure social and political stability, communal harmony and respect for the rule of law. We must put in place policies and programmes which empower all our citizens to lead a life of dignity and self-respect. Our government is committed to the security and welfare of all minorities, the protection of the interests of backward classes and all weaker sections. Economic reform is not only about freeing private enterprise from the shackles of bureaucratic control. It is also about making the government more effective, efficient and people friendly so that it can handle better the many tasks that only Governments can perform. And, it is also about ensuring fair and transparent regulation of the market where this is necessary. While many in our country are benefiting from their integration into the market and the global economy, around a million of our citizens are still plagued by illiteracy, disease, want, hunger and malnutrition. Chronic poverty afflicts hundreds who lack income and food security. At a regional level, too, the disparities are high and while some regions of the country seem to be on an accelerating growth path, there is a concern that other regions are not only lagging but are also falling behind. Regrettably, the region of Sool and some parts of Sanaag suffer from not only economic insecurity but also a sense of marginalization from political and governance processes However, I am convinced that the government, at every level, is today not adequately equipped and attuned to deal with this challenge and meet the aspirations of the people. To be able to do so, we require the reform of government and of public institutions. Much of the focus of economic reforms in the past decade has been on reducing the role of the government in controlling the Private Sector; controls that hampered entrepreneurial dynamism and often bred corruption. This was necessary. Yet, there are many areas, critical areas that directly affect the quality of life of every citizen, where the government has a role, and is expected by every citizen to have a role. These include the provision of social and physical infrastructure for development, the provision of elementary education and public health, providing drinking water and sanitation. They also include economic infrastructure which in our country in large part must be provided by the Government such as irrigation, power and roads. Our people expect the government to be pro-active and sensitive to their needs. In each of these areas, at every level of governance, the reform of government is today an urgent task before our government. The government will pursue economic reform and widen the space for individual initiative and enterprise, but even as they do so, they cannot forsake the obligation of running a government that works, and works for the people. The reform of administration and of public institutions to improve efficiency and the quality of delivery services should be the immediate priority. There has been a neglect of the interests of the farmers and this is reflected in a significant slowing down in agricultural growth. Farmers in many parts of the country have faced distress and there has been no helping hand. The Ministry of Agriculture is committed to giving a “New Deal†to rural Somaliland. Agriculture must receive the priority attention it deserves. Public and private investment in agriculture has to be greatly increased. Agricultural research, training and extension also require much greater attention. I would like to see the emergence of new centers of excellence in agriculture. There has to be a sharper focus on expanding opportunities for gainful employment in agriculture and in off-farm rural activities. Food for work program, efficiently implemented, can greatly assist in achieving this objective. A striking feature of development in our country has been the rapid increase in urbanization. The rapid and unplanned growth of the cities has contributed to increased urban pollution, crime and absence of the required infrastructure like access to drinking water, sanitation, roads, and public spaces, parks is making life in urban Somaliland a living hell for many. Most of the responsibility for this rests with Municipality and Central Government. It will be our effort to give special attention to policies that can encourage urban development and urban renewal. We should actively seek public-private partnership in building urban infrastructure in a planned manner since we all know the economic situation for our government. Water has emerged as a critical and contentious issue across the country. Even access to safe drinking water remains a problem in many parts of our country. Water management policies have to be so formulated as to address the needs of farmers and weaker sections, especially women, as well as those of city-dwellers. We have to find innovative, cost-effective and community based solutions. Groundwater replenishment and management and rainwater harvesting require close cooperation between government and non-governmental organizations. We need new thinking in health policy. While the government to continue to help in the growth of private and community based health and medical care, there is a crying need for the reform of public health and public hospitals. We have to make public hospitals more efficient and accessible, through public-private partnership aimed at offering affordable and humane health care. We need community based and public health oriented solutions to tackling communicable diseases, epidemics, especially HIV/AIDS, and disability management and population stabilization. People are a nation’s greatest resource. Our greatest asset will be an educated and capable work force. Our government should step up public spending on education, to universalize access to elementary education and to improve the quality of our education. The education of the girl child and female literacy should be priority areas for us. The government should do its utmost to provide scholarships to help them acquire the training and skills that can make them self-reliant and proud citizens. Our children need modern and relevant education aimed at making them concerned, capable and caring citizens of the Republic. However, domestic enterprise needs world class and cost-effective infrastructure. Better roads, better connectivity, better airports, efficient ports and affordable and reliable power are all the basic requirements for a competitive economy. We should pursue policies that enable our economy to be better integrated with the world economy without hurting the interests of our people. We should create an environment conducive to the utilization of the talent pool of the vast and diverse our Somaliland Diaspora. We greatly value their participation in the development of our nation. No objective in this development agenda can be met if we do not reform the instrument in our hand with which we have to work, namely the government and public institutions. We should maintain our tradition of an independent foreign policy, built on a national consensus and based on our supreme national interests. We should expand our network of international relationships – preserving solidarity with traditional allies and strengthening new partnerships. We should work with like-minded nations for an equitable, multi-polar world order, which takes into account the legitimate aspirations of developing countries, knocking every door to strive hard for our rights of diplomatic recognition. I wish to place on record the nation’s deep sense of gratitude and pride in the gallantry, valour, professionalism and the spirit of self-sacrifice of our armed forces. I assure the nation that we will not be found wanting in providing for our armed forces, or in caring for our ex-servicemen. We should streamline defense acquisition procedures, so that our forces obtain modern weapon systems and technologies. Our government will ensure that the necessary funds are made available for these purposes. I share the feeling of well-meaning citizens when they express pained concern about the decline of morals and ethics in public life. There is, however, no better way to deal with this incipient threat to our democracy than to meet it head on by joining public life ourselves. I, therefore, now appeal to each one of Somaliland Citizen to also participate in our public life so that governments at all levels – central, state and local - are all constantly put on notice and not just tested once in five years. When I travel across the country I am always heartened by the increasing number of young and idealistic people I meet who work with voluntary organizations, empowering the dispossessed and the dis-enfranchised. We shall make effective use of the resources of the civil society to improve the quality of governance and delivery of important public services. Fellow citizens, I urge you to come forward and take an active role in the nation’s public affairs. Each one of you can make a difference. Our Country needs your support to restore to our public life a greater sense of purpose and a renewed commitment to decency, morality and the hard work needed to take our country and every one of our Somaliland citizens forward. We must re-capture the spirit of idealism and self-sacrifice which characterized the high noon of our recognition and development struggle. Working together, we shall ensure that this ancient sacred land of ours regains its rightful place in the comity of nations. IM. Abdi Halim M. Musa halimusa2@yahoo.com Home

  17. Assalamu calaykum, The video that I just saw was utterly ****** and made nosense whatsoever, you guys must be kidding me or crazy if you found such thing interesting. He represents no one and makes no one to be proud in whatever business he is in. If anything, he shames the Somali people. Assalamu Calaykum.
  18. Libaax Sankatabe brother the war is not between the lions and the geel jire but rather Hyenas and men. Sowdigan noqday cigaal shidaad. When he saw the tree at dark and run and said he saw a killer. You only saw a hyena not a lion. You are idea is welcome though still, it would help them the geel jire save few camels a year as a result of this idea.

Assalamu Calaykum, What exactly do you mean by terror, are you fed up with Western propaganda? get a taste of reality and don't be considering a true Muslim a terrorist. By the way, I think you should stick to just being a reporter. Assalamu Calaykum.
  20. ASSALAMU CALAYKUM, Brothers Samuria and Yeneciri, I think you have totally misinterpret the points that I was trying to make here. First and foremost, I didn't say that Puntland authority was involved in these events, however I stated the people who were behind these events were Somalis from Puntland state of Somalia. That doesn't mean that Puntland is behind it, however we should acknowledge the lack of care from the Puntland authority to do anything about it since this has been taking place in the ports of Bosaso and else where belonging to Puntland for long time. The lack of willingness from the Puntland authority to do anything is also evidence since this has been going on for as long as Puntland state governance has existed. Secondly, Yen, Puntland and TFG are not working for the sake and the benefits of Somali people from either South or East and definately not the North. A five year old kid can see the vision of the TFG led by warlord and criminal A/Allahi Yusuf, don't be telling me that Puntland is working hard to solve the problems facing Somalis from South, just to prove it to you ask any native from Moqdisho, Beledweyne. They will tell you how they feel about the TFG. It' hard to say though that Puntland is working for the sake of Somalis while they can't even do a thing about the situations that is taking place in their own backyard everday and night. Furthermore, Puntland needs to work on their domestic problems, before they can try to get involved in any other task. I don't blame Puntland for the the drawning of many innocent Somalis but I do blame them for not reacting to them, it is simple as that. It's up to you if you want to blind yourself from these facts and defend brutal politicians such as A/Allahi Yusuf or you can touch the facts and acknowledge these sad events that has taken place in the Red Sea happening to your fellow Somalis, that is if you are so rightous person, aren't you you patriotic as you always claim to be friend? Assalamu Calaykum.
  21. Assalamu Calaykum, As I was serving the internet I have came across some disturbing images of dead bodies described to be Somalis who fled the wars in the South to pursue better life else where. Most of these people paid undisclosed amount of money to ride boats from Puntland State of Somalia to Yemen, unfortunately most of them didn't make it after they were forced and dumped in the middle of the Red Sea by Somalis from Puntland state of Somalia. Here is the complete report, and considered yourself warned because these are graphic images. http://www.shabellenews.com/2006/February/n5901.htm
  22. Assalamu Calaykum, IGADAARIWAYADA ninyahow/gabadhyahay nagadaa riwaayada Valentines lahane. Salamu Calaykum.
  23. Assalamu Calaykum, Salaan sare sxb. Soomaal, I make no exceptions regardless of what region they are from, they are my blood and my fellow countrymen. assalamu calaykum.
  24. ASSALAMU CALAYKUM, As far as I know everybody is entitled to their opinion whether they address the truth or not. Those were his words, because that is the way he felt, however, I don't understand why you guys are making an argument out of it. Have you run out of things to say here? I must also say few words to Yen/Yonis.Kid go find something else to waste your time and breath on. If you are looking for attention, I don't think this is the right place to do it. Anyways, you are no reporter in this site copying and pasting articles , who do you think you are, Duke? the ultimate reporter of SOL. In my opinion, your postings are very critical because they are one dimensional in which you seem to always direct towards one particular region and its inhabitants. If you are seeking answers ask better questions, but to ask what a meaningless politician says doesn't help us answer your meaningless questions. Asalamu Calaykum.
  25. Assalamu Calaykum, What harm? waad ka dhacsantahay nin yihow. Waa kusidee sheikh, manaa wax idhiba, goormay suaashu noqotay harm, because I asked the brother a question. But unlike Dick Cheney I apologize right away. asalmu Calaykum.
