I see our girl Rabia Z was at the show.. yay! Originally posted by ailamos: ^^ The latest styles of Muslim-wear are breath-taking, have you seen the styles from Malaysia and Brunei? They're gorgeous to say the least. Malaysians are so stylish Masha Allah. I loved seeing magazine covers with hijabis.

I hope he's okay. First Islamic talk I went to ever was by Imam Siraaj and Bilaal Phillibs. Imam Siraaj's talk of hijab was also the reason I dropped the 'I'll wear hijab when I am an ayeeyo talk'. Haha. May Allah bless him.. Thanks for sharing Safa..

I think the English troops would be more eager to do the job. Perhaps, the British will never ban the niqaab simply because the French did it first.

Happy May 18th, SL. peace, progress and democracy ( ) Isha Allah.

Originally posted by Hales: One crazy woman represents Europe now. It says Burqa not Niqab. It would be different story if they banned the Niqab. To them Burqa and niqaab are synonymous. The ban is on Islamic face covering.. Lily, I agree, I think hijrah actually becomes an obligation in this case..

What's the worse case scenario?

Haha. I thought people only did that sort of thing in secondry school-- I once had classes with a Somali girl who chnanged her name to a gaalo one, I never used to talk to her until we were grouped and I pointed to necklace and asked whose name that was (Arabic / Somali name, she told me it was her real name. After that I started seeing more of her and her sisters, first few times I'd say hello Kelly or whatever her fake name was. She looked uncomfortable. I'd say talk about your friends Yemeni roots in front of people who really know him. One of my sisters friends told her so many lies about her family, including that her mum wasn't her real mum  .. Then they moved a few doors away and our hooyos became good friends. Not all friendships are meant to last for ever, if you dislike him lose him. Hadii kale tell him about his ****** imature ways. I don't believe in political correctness and holding back between friends, I'd rather debate things and fight them out than have people being two faced with me...

I wouldn't be cool headed when someone I love gets insulted in that manner in my presence and I'm not a violent person. Naxar, She's defending freedom of speech here and was lynching a nomad for his views in another thread. -
Nuune, It's not MY suggestion, it was an actuall project among many and that's not how it was recieved. C&H I'm not against them speaking about their experiences but appointing themselves as spokeswomen for all Somalis is questionable and I do think that while Weris might have her heart in her campaign she isn't the best advocate, have you ever seen her talk? Fatima is an opportunistic little boolshierdher.. Iman anigu waxa kamaan sheegin and I don't who/what Yasmin is. All I am saying I've seen campaigns that worked and they start at the grassroots, Weris isn't there..
-
I didn't mind the books, it wasn't bad at all.. Nuune, That's not MY suggestion but an actual project and one of their many endeavours since the 80s.. I was just highlighting that you need to go to the root, reach out to everyone concerned and speak their language- if you are serious about eradicating FGM. C&H Lets put GJs arguements aside. Weris has no influece over Somalis and these issues need to be addressed at the grassroots, Fatima didn't even have her facts about FGM straight - how could she be a spokes person for it? And you're being harsh on the men - I know many that are outspoken against it and they are not all young men raised in the west, Somalis were debating for decades.. Most of the pressure and promotion came and still come from women.. Lazy, I've never had a 'sad to be a woman day'...

^It's funny, sow maha. Rasuulka ha laiska caayo because waa freedom of speeech but don't judge super models because that's for Allah to do... Wareer Badanaa, indeed! -
Originally posted by chocolate & honey: Even if she wears none, sub-zero, is she not allowed to write about her life? That makes her open for personal insults? Being in the public eye kinda makes one open for insults, that's why gossip magazines sell. Not that I agree with GeelJires bad mouthing BUT everyone celeberty bashes. It just comes with the fame package.. I'm not sure how effective Weris's campaign is since she's not respected enough by those who carry out the practice. I do know a wonderful woman who has devoted most of her lif publishing papers, carrying out research and sucessfully lobbying for a law on FGM in th UK. A few years back she ran a project where the ladies who carry out FGM were trained and given sweing machines so that they have an alternative source of income. I think people who have a connection with the people concerned tend to be more effective where Weris strikes me as a useless attention seeker, pretty much like our beloved B.

Originally posted by deleted: North I totally agree, but most Somalis have "What's in it for me" attitude when it comes to their pocket. And even after you give them all that, they complain about ticket price  The Islaamo and deen inclined would do it with no questions asked. Anyway, this is better than nothing, so good on ya hon.

Mabruuk, walaal. Khayr, Insha Allah.

I'm happy here and I haven't had problems with the locals, in fact I think they're lovely people once you get to know them. Speaking of Somalis here, I was reading about a Somali Emirati sister today who won Emirates Woman of the Year award. Khadija Ali Warsame her name is.. The only Arabs I dislike are the Labanese, so phoney and arrogant waaye dadkaasu. Insha Allah, tell us more about your trip back home- I fell in love with it too. Somalia as so much potential, I would seriously consider it over UK if we're forced to move..
