  1. Gold is only worth the value humans place on it. This Xmas stuff is so OTT, most locals are so pissed off but government don't want to lose the money it generates. Not good UAE.
  2. grasshopper;680714 wrote: That's garbage, we should learn to spread out. One problem with us somali people - we like to stick together in one place don't we? and whatever neighbourhood we are in huge numbers tends to turn into a ghetto..coincidence? I don't like to think that way but it's true based on what I've seen! Not only Somalis and it isn't a problem. I don't know where you live but most big cities I've visited, ethnic groups tend to live together creating a community within society. This is benefitial on so many levels and eases busniess growth and support and even allocation of community specific resources from the government. Somalis have never turned an area into a ghetto, I know a few that were cleaned actually up by Somalis in the 90s - I know this has changed in recent times but I put that on erosion of the strong cultural morality we had back then. We are a new and poor community and sadly many aren't ambitious enough to move from the poverty which is holding them back... again this isn't unique to Somalis, there are other communities, including natives who live in these ghettos. Lets stop treating Somaliness as a curse / excuse.
  3. Riveting stuff! Teeda kale.. jacayl iyo qooq waa kala hal.

  11. I got thinking about the perception of niqaabis after reading an article in the local paper earlier, I'll post the article later but first, I'd like to get your thinking on these images. What are your perceptions of these women in niqaab or 'burka'? What words cross your mind as you look at each image? Does your perception of the veil change with the context, if so how? 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

    December

^These haayado in SL this day iyo that day bay idiku maaweeliyaan ma'istidhi. LOL. I love December as we have a most of the month off work. Anyway, I was thinking about this last night, you know Islamic New Year also starts on Sunday, Insha Allah. 2010 has been a tough and interesting year for me. I'm hoping for more of the interesting and less of the tough in 2011. Alhamdulilah, pretty happy with life in general right now, so not working on anything major or new but I'll be focusing on tazkiyah this year as I've been leaning more towards dunya baryahan, Subhan Allah. What are your plans, Aaliyah? Wishing ya all the best..
  14. ^Her number is on the video, no harm in calling her and send money directly to her. Allah yashfiiha, I'A.

  17. Waxaan ka helay ereyada iyo laxanka heesta hore, laakin waxaan jeclaan lahaa in uu gabdhaha Someeliyeed yidhaahdo, it just sounds strange to me. Waxay raggan cajalka is dhex galiyay, some would think gabdhahheenu in ay rag u eeg yihiin. LOL. Teeda kale Nour's song is killed by the music, shame, because I usually like his songs.

Now, it seems that you genuinly misunderstood my comment but next time -- try to undertand before you attack, ay? Bugger off @ Gheele.
  19. Salaams Ilhan. This is a very sensitive topic and close to home for me. I would be interested in your opinions, sis. Thanks for bringing it to light, I feel there's too much ignorance of mental health issues in our community.. What issues do you face with amily members or friends who suffer from either of the two? To many. Someone beloved to me has been suffering from mental health illness for the best part of the last decate. I could write a book about the issues but it depresses to think about them so I tend to block it out.... Do you get any support from any organisation? Hospital, mostly. Sometimes a charity which works with people with MH. They provide key worker and sheltered housing. Ho do you cope? With Sabr! It's the hardest sickness you can deal with as a family, you actually lose that person even if they are with you physically. Do you think the medication they are put under is a solution or is it just making it worse? A bit of both, really. All medications have side efects but in the cases of schitzophrenia and hallucinations, medication can be very useful. Though, even here the side effects can be dramatic at times and a bit scary to be honest. Some people take the person back home to Somalia do you think that is a good idea don’t you think they would be better off here where they can get better medication? It's definitly a bad idea. Have you seen the state of those places in Somalia. I wouldn't send a dog there. Hawo gedis might be useful but not to a mental hospital in Somalia-- that will push anyone off the edge. How about those back home do you think it is right for them to be tied up? No, No. I truly hope facilities are improved and people who work in them are properly trained. A person should be confined if their condition can cause them to harm themselves and others but this needs to be done in a delicate, human manner. Do you agree that they are possessed by the devil? Jin possessions do exists and I think families should pursue this approach if the condition is not clearly diagnosed. But sometimes the person is suffering from a medical condition and requires medical care. Our people have mad love for jinns-- everything has to be about them baryahan. Since we are Muslim what is you thought about them seeing a psychologist Who says Muslims shouldn't go to a psychologist? I'm not sure how effective they are in sever cases - but sometimes a little guidance and coaching can do a world of good. There are in fact a few good Muslim coaches and psychologists. Please share your thoughts...
