Jacaylbaro Has Failed Me! Who Does He Think He is???
Blessed replied to Alpha Blondy's topic in General
What do you need $22.50 for? -
Arabs do it better than Somali, if you take a photo at a Arab wedding waa lagugu soo duulayaa. I don't think Somalis are as bothered tbh. Last Somali/ Yemeni wedding I went to the DJ was behind a screen laakin mar walba intuu soo baxo ayuu Islamaha la hadlaayay.

Safferz, Thanks darling, those are brilliant. I have Mohamed Bashe's Guri Waa Haween and I think there are a few other titles in SOAS, need to visit there I'A. "land cruiser gado soo I didn't understand most of that song lol I liked another one in that series bt can't remember the name but I'm not sure if she wrote those particular songs? Her political songs are historical. lol..I love how these boys are eating out of your hands btw.

It's unfortunate that no one remembers the poems composed by women, but their poems are important too. Indeed. I've personal interest in this topic, can you recommend any books / links addressing Somali women's poetry for me?

It's sad that the suffering of our people is constantly used for cheap politicking on this forum. Teeda kale, insulting Somali clans as a hobby on a daily basis doesn't not a make one a patriot!

Ps: Please at least use the image of a bahal maskiin ah, like Yaxaas, or Waraabe, ama Kashiito. :D

I disagree with the premise that qabiil is hidden in our community, that's far from the truth. If you're referring to SOL, I agree the proper names of Somalli qabail are better than the insulting codes but this will not solve the hate, mistrust and prejudice which are so prevalent in our community. Putting your qabiil out there doesn't solve these issues but it only elevates that aspect of your identity and overlooks who you are as a person. XX, exactly!

LoL carrying it on your I.D. is hardly going to reduce its impact? Anyway, I prefer the names of my beloved aabe and awoowe.

^The Shia interpretation of sharia is not based on ahadith of ahel-alsunnah and this particular ruling wouldn't be relevant to them - unless it's also found in their books of hadith. Ngonge, I agree. It's sad the level of oppression based on sectarian, ethnic and race differences in the Muslim world.

^They look so awkward lol. Fixed the link but here it is : http://observers.france24.com/content/20130419-iran-police-punish-man-dress

Iranian men had started a FB campaign where they dress like women in a show of solidarity following a bizarre court court judgement. Here's a photo stream of Kurd Men for Equality page - it's hilarious but does it work? Also, what do you girls think of the court sentence and of the tactic of shaming men with womanhood in general?

^How is that possible in such a big country? I always thought there were more of you...

Did they close the Red Sea book store in Hargaisa? I think the book fair organisers were trying to address library issue- unfortunately libraries are not seen as a priority. I can't wait to get my hands on Nadifas' book, she talked about the courage of Somali women using the characters from this novel for reference.

She was playing an escort in that play, quiet a few plays from that era have pushed the boundaries -- it was to drive a point about the consequences of that kind of behaviour.

Haha. Labadiinu sheekada heesta ayaad noo matalysaan miyaa? Abaas with his aayar socod iyo af macaani and Xaji Xunjuf with his qawdhanite stand off..

NO somali man actually supports nor part-takes in this barbaric and 'xaraamic' practice, ma garatey? Well, well. We've made some progress here, inaar, ma is tidhi? I'm glad that we agree that this is a xaraamic, barbaric practice which taints our reputation. Down with FGM ila dheh

Thanks for sharing. Thought provoking Mashaallah.
-
Why would YOU want to be associated with this 'xaraamic', 'taboo' topic?
-
You've pretty much summed up your position Alpha, so toodles for now.

I do wonder how UNICEF and such organisations conduct their surveys, there are some who would say that they don't practice FGM but sunna- which off course is nonsense as there's no Islamic basis for tampering with female parts, but I wonder if these semantics were addressed in this study. Having said that. I've suspected that this practice was less common these days, but this is quiet impressive...
