  1. ^I understand your sentiments just don't know how / when the term 'islamist' became an insult. Anyway, all this xan yarta ajar bay unoqon ha iska sii dhuryamaan....
  2. I disgaree, digital books have a long way to go before they can compete paper publications, esp in the developing world. I can't see how a kindle can ever compete with artistic value of a children's books and then, you have the issue of battery life and potential loss of data which are a constant worry for the consumer. Books also have this special cultural value all over the world and are on the most part easier to maintain and far more mobile than digital books, I can see myself reading my book on the coast of Berbera as I sip on my shaah with sinjabiil or on the London underground. I don't see them going out of fashion anytime soon. Secondly, libraries in the west have moved with the times and are taking reading and information sharing to a whole new interactive level, expanding the remit of the library. However, in the Somali context, we're lagging behind the rest of the world on so many levels that this digital age malarky won't even be an issue for us for a very long time.
  3. May Allah reward you for your efforts, forgive your faults and increase you in knowledge and hikmah. I've benefited greatly from your posts, walaalo. Jizaak Allah and Assalaamu Alaikum.
  4. ... 'Abd Allah reported that the Prophet of Allah, upon him be peace, said, "A believer is not a fault-finder and is not abusive, obscene, or course." Bukhari's Book of Manners #313, Ahmad, Ibn Hibban, and Hakim ... Ibn 'Abbas said, "If you wish to mention the faults of your friend, mention your own faults first." Hadith - Bukhari's Book of Manners #329 ... Ibn 'Abbas said on the following verse of the Qur'an, "Nor defame one another" (49:11), "Do not spend your time finding fault with one another." Hadith - Bukhari's Book of Manners #330 "Do not harm Muslims, and do not revile them, nor pursue their imperfections. For verily, whosoever pursues the imperfections of his brother shall have his own imperfections pursued by Allah" Tirmidhi
  5. Idiotic generalisations on that thread. Sheesh. I do appreciate that nursing, midwivery and doctors have stressful jobs with long hours, despite this, many are passionate about their work and great at what they do. On the flip side, I've also come across some annoying nurses who obviously didn't like their jobs take their own issues out on you. Then you have these arrogant doctors who do not respect the fact the you have an opinion or want to direct the care you recieve and some docs and nurses like those on that forum who lack the sense to know that Somalis are not all the same.
  6. ElPunto;733977 wrote: It's not a complicated thing to understand. While agreeing that Islam commands women to cover up - it's not necessary to comment every single time when a Somali woman who doesn't cover up is shown or discussed. It REALLY isn't necessary. Well said. The thread is about her professional life and she has done well for herself in a male dominated field. Kudos to her.
  7. The moving library is not a political institution so lets not politicise it. The books vary, from children's books to poetry and translations of classics from other countries. Som@li. I guess you're not a big book fan. A library is far more interesting than a boring internet website. As well as reading the actual books, people got speak to the authors and discuss the issues raised in the books. A library encourages sharing of books, ideas and Insha Allah increased readership back home will mean more youngsters will be encouraged to share and form their own opinions. Vast majority of people back home don't have access to the internet and / or can't afford to buy many books. Keep up the great work, Ibts and team HBF.
  8. Muhammed, LOL@ hold your horses. Seeflaboodnimo is in our Somaali blood maaha. You've implied, walaal. I think it's better for all of us in waxyaabahan la iska dhaafo. It's pointless fitnah. Al Msikin, No one is jumping or needs calming down, just like you I'm sharing an opinion.
  9. Errrm. getting pampered and getting your hair done at a ladies only salon makes one a gaalo wannabe. Right! SOL is on some crazy BS these days. Bisinka! I've heard good things about this place and plan to go but that's a silly article. TBH.
  10. Muhammed, if he changed his faith wuu sheegi lahaa. As far as you know, HE said that HE was a Muslim. He did not negate it and this is not the first time he mentioned his Islam. Why do you insist on otherwise? Twitter gossip does not take one out of the fold of Islam. Bisinka! Coincidentally, I was talking about Raage with someone last night-- pretty excited about his upcoming documentary on the life of Prophet Muhammed (SAW).
  11. It's a silly question considering the fact that he (Raaghe) wrote a book entirely on his Muslim British identity, which I highly recommend to you Mohammed as Raaghe is very honest about his relationship with the deen in the book. You'd think the interviewer would do some background research and have some basic facts about the geezer at least. I know that I'd be seriously miffed if I was Raaghe and perhaps he was taken aback by the question. He has also written many articles and produced documentaries on Islam always drawing on his relationship with it -- I don't see him as someone who hides his Islamic identity. He may not be the ideal Muslim or even' Muslim enough' for some of you here, but taas isaga iyo illahay aya u taal.
  12. Oo miyaad isku qabataa? LOL. Anigu waan la hurruftamayay oo waxaan islahaa bilaash bay u ordayaan.. laakin hada laga bilaabo, sidaadaan qixda gurayaa.. :D :D
  13. Illeen dadkan meesha ordayaa with their laptops waxay qiyaasayeen farxada dadka lol. Dhoole cadaynta halkaa ka wad, JB.
  14. Not surprsing, dadku waa Alleh yaqaan. Ka sandaqada ky nool ee lacag yari soo gasho ayaa alxamdulilah mar walba haya... Illayow imaanka noo kordhi.
  15. Well said Lily. It's all about what Somali were and the achievements of the great men and women who made the 26th of June and 1st July possible should never be forgotten. Personally, looking at images and videos from that era always fills me with a sense of pride and longing.
  16. ^For the love of Allah, they said that their childhood in Muqdisho was normal and have described the Italian link, football, theater and the beach -- it sounded great to me as someone who has never been to Muqdisho. They then went on to describe a struggle following the war- which is pretty much the story of every Somali regardless of regional background. I really don't know what you took offence with?? Mooge, There's no such thing as a set 'Somali' beauty, huuno but anyway-- the video isn't about their looks.
  17. How generous of you.
  18. KK, I agree with your sentiments, I guess the authors ****** logic ayaan ka booday. Somalina. Lol. Gumaysi is such a harsh term, dear. Lol. However, they are more receptive to female charm.. . Ciyaal maamoniadu has levels laakin, Ikm not talking about kuwa ciyaalnimada dhaafin.. Taleexi. Illaahay kuligeenba qof ina anfaca hanagu simo.
  19. Lol. Heedhe kaas beri hore ayaa lala booday. You should,ve seen the hurruf and cay his wife got, miskiina. Taleexi, aniga facayga muu ahayn and guur seemed yucky to me waaga but alhamdulilah mid sidiisa u waalid jecel, though demostically challenged ayaan helay. :D
  20. What do you mean by mummys boi? I think being close to you hooyo is honourable, it's certainlt nothing to hold against a man. I had a neighbour who not only lived with his mum sida gabdhaha ayuu u caawin jirey, cooking, cleaning, shopping. He was good looking too, so every girl in the xaafad wey ku ducaysan jirtay. Lol. I believe that a man will treat his wife as he treats his mum and sisters. I'm big on family, so I can't see how I can grow without them. I guess we're different in outlooks. We had to pay bills and support family back home at hooyo and aabos - so I was never financially dependent until I got married.
  21. Dhaqankeena places strong emphasis on family and to me a guy who chooses to live with his parents is a family orientated sort of man which is what you want. I don't know how living on your own prepares you for life with another? Living with my family has taught me a lot about tolerance, sabr and balancing life, work and family.
  22. Indeed. I love it that they both chose to help their ppl. And yes, Jamelia. They are natural beauties, MA.
  23. May Allah have mercy on his soul and grant his family sabr. P.s. Majority of these deaths are sensless killings over trivial arguments, mobile phones or are racially motivated.
