  2. ^Well at last Aaliyah gave a fitting response to your i cun - i jiid theory! Meesha ka kac wayeelyahow lol Countdown to the qaadi, maahoo?

  4. I don't think the basic education (and even health care) is ambitious, it's a right of all children and Maryan said at a recent event "Somali children need to be at school today, they can't wait for us to discuss the challenges'. Here is more on the education plan: http://www.unicef.org/somalia/SOM_resources_gotoschool.pdf - btw.. funding has always been available but the security situation in Central-Southern regions didn't allow for concentrated effort in rebuilding the state education system (must be said that there has been some private sector development- but doesn't meet the needs of the amjority). Anyway, if anyone is interested or know people who may be interested - SRFD is working closely with Maryam and there are volunteering opportunities.. http://www.srdf.org.uk/news/go2school-educating-for-resilience/ On a personal level, I find Maryan both ambitious on behalf of Somalis and genuine, M'A.
  5. Perhaps, but the media only reports on one wife with regards to Godane. Isn't it ironic that they groom kids to blow themselves up for the cause and yet lead normal lives themselves. B*stards!
  6. His family - wife and kids live in Sharjah, UAE. Common knowledge and even reported in the media: http://www.criticalthreats.org/somalia/al-shabaab-leadership/ahmed-abdi-godane-mukhtar-abu-zubair-november-14-2011 http://www.sunatimes.com/view.php?id=629 http://www.galdogobtimes.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1299&Itemid=31
  7. ^No walaal, but will see what I can find, InshaAllah.
  8. Alpha, do you really need a residence visa for SL?
  9. Thanks SP. I've started a thread on this some time back.. http://www.somaliaonline.com/community/showthread.php/63389-Suugaanta-Haweenka - will need to update it at some point as I've met some amazing poetic sisters in London since.
  10. Tallaabo, I agree XX is over doing it with the ethnic lander nonsense but her election is a gain for the Somalis in her constituency and the rest of us because most British Somali support Labour.
  11. Gosh, you guys are so thirsty?! :D Hibaq is a human rights lawyer and has been advocating for the minority and Muslim community for awhile so would most certainly be a useful Councillor for the marginalised Somali community of Bristol. Wish her the best in her career.
  12. Any decent person irrespective of their politics would want to see a peaceful and prosperous Somalia. Inshaallah khayr for this conference and beyond.
  13. I've had several Egyptians from this region mistake me for one of them, I always tell them that they must be lost Somalis

Chimera;943831 wrote: Actually this is great news, not only does Mogadishu get a nice fancy seaside resort, the Somali entrepreneurs themselves will follow suit in building grand projects, rather than the safe-bets of cafes and restaurants. Not to forget the other Western and Asian real-estate developers are no doubt following the project. While we don't realize, or comprehend the value of Somalia and its location, the country is prime real-estate. I'm surprised that came from you, Chimera. Somalis have been building and rebuilding the mother land for decades without the connections and money this man clearly has access to..

  18. ^Have a look at this one Che : http://news.sky.com/story/1082878/why-uk-is-opening-new-embassy-in-somalia This passage is quite telling:. "Somalia is strategically important, both for its position on the Horn of Africa, and for its recently confirmed energy reserves. Because the country does not have a fully functioning infrastructure, profiting from its hydro carbons remains a plan for the future, but the UK and other countries are positioning themselves to co-operate with the new federal government." 21. ^I'm at peace with the westerner in me but I've learned this life lesson from my Somali parents - "Illahay baa caruurta korinaya" is a cop out.
  22. Odweyne, I think he is calling for an honest dialogue between the North and "the South", I don't think he has given up on the union. That's my understanding from his recent speeches but time will tell.
  23. Read this earlier.. interesting over view of many matters.. I wonder if one marriage is not registered are wives considered equal? How does a man in the UK manage to finance several households? http://www.newstatesman.com/lifestyle/religion/2013/04/what-kind-woman-willing-share-her-husband
