Actually going back home for the first time since I was a child, I was thoroughly impressed with the innovations that I've witnessed and it seemed in some cases people did observe and take note. Africa is a poor, developing continent which is at constant war with itself, they don't have the best universities because they can afford the best faculty and resources. This is what slows Africa down. Secondly, the article(s) are extremely Eurocentric, sometimes Africans like doing things their way, even if it's been done like that for centuries.

?Benefit fraud is benefit fraud! It doesn't matter if other crimes are committed elsewhere by others, that logic is flawed. Somaali Muslim weeyaan, diinta waa inay ku dhaqmaan. Beenta, tuugnimada iyo caruurta been laga sheegayo, gabdhaha la / is ceebeenayo waa wax diinteenu ka soo hor jeedo! This silly excuse making waa waxa dadka jarka ka rida. Ama caydha ha wada qaataan ama sida dadka kale ha wada shaqaystaan. Walaashay oo midwife ah ayaa maalin walba la waydiiyaa sababta gabdhaha xijaaban oo mar mar xataa heer dhakhtar nin ah ku diidaan gaadha ay sanad walba 'boyfriend' ilmo ugu dhalaan? Bal danbiga caruurtaa laga galayo miyaan laga naxayn? Bal diinta lakla wareejinayo miyaan laga xumaanayn? Waxa inoo haboon in aan xaqa is tusno oo dadkeena ka caawino siday shaqo u doontaan, xataa benefitka sida xalaalsha ah ay ugu raadsadaan lahayeen ha laga caawiyo. Cidna faaido uguma jirto in aynu marwalba xumaanta isugu dhiiri galino. Damiirka aynu kor u qaaadano, illaahay halaga baqo, cid riziqiisu seegayaa ma jiro!!

It's one thing if you're considering the halaal and haraam of it and off course, you certainly would get more ajer if you give to orphans. However, you guys are forgetting that marriage is a celebration, yaa naas. I'm totally on board with anti-extravagance brigade but I reckon if people can afford it, for some 10k isn't a big deal and want it, let them enjoy it. Marriage is (one of) the biggest milestones of your life, after all. However, it's ridiculous when poor who are often homeless insist on an expensive Hilton wedding which they must pay for with added interest for the next 5 years...

Ceeb iyo xaraan ayay dadkeenu caado ka dhigteen. :(

Heedhe, if the questioner is already thinking about being able to remarry her-- why not work hard (I mean really, really hard) at staying married? Divorce ain't easy.

LOL. Che. I know what you mean laakin, she/ he's got to be more special than average to get the honour of marriage, soo maaha? There's nothing wrong with having standards but our understanding of 'standards' is usually a bit sketchy. For example, you can have high standards and still end up married to a guy from back home or the middle east. It's terrible how we've become arrogant because of our western habitats. Many brothers / sisters in ME and Africa are heads and shoulders above some of the qashin in the west. No offence intended.

Raamsade;781180 wrote: The disturbing thing about this study is the daftness along with the attendant chauvinism and bigotry will continue in perpetuity as the truly daft tend to marry each other. The results of this study probably apply to religious literalists ala Alshabaab who literally believe in spy angels perched on shoulders 24/7, talking snakes, Jonah living inside a big fish, Jewish guy water skiing in the Red Sea 2000 years ago, Biblical/Quranic creation story implying incestuous human origin, and miscellaneous religious morons who go around threatening people for simply having different views. .. is this an attempt to proof to us that AlShabaab aren't the only bigoted morons on the loose or that the supposed 'daftness' is hereditary?

I don't like TV either, even the news brings nothing but gloom and depression my way, ha iska maqnaado. I did spend most of my teens sitting stupefied in front of the box, however. So, I'm probably t.ved out.

Xabiibti!! I was just teasing you in the other thread, I honestly wasn't expecting a reply. I don't agree with that there is a rise in Somali singles, there are several weddings every weekend here in London. As for those who choose to be single, I'm of the opinion that everyone has their own valid reason for not being married. Our society needs to stop putting pressure on people to get married. I completely understand the cultural differences that you've mentioned, it's definitely an issue for our people these days. Inshaallah, Allah will reward you for your obedience to him. Xx LOL Che. Perhaps, it's because you're not a ... special person.. ehem,

Let alone that we reached the phase that we actually want to do research, what use will it have if you cant even implement the outcomes nor have the capacity or skills? Surely, this is the VERY reason we need more people who are at a level of education which enables them to contribute to the body of knowledge (on various subjects) which so is lacking in the Somali context.Only this will lead to social and policy change in Somali society. It's fine if you don't want a PhD, however it has value everywhere and in particular developing nations. Samajaama.. MashaAllah, good for you. People usually go to university primarily to improve their own economic and intellectual outcomes. If someone chooses to use their skills to also support their community or for the sake of Allah, it's a bonus.

You said, there must be other reasons besides calaf for the rise of unmarried Somalis? You as an unmarried are in the perfect position to answer this? What are YOUR other reasons?

I must say that Abtigiis isn't the ONLY one who resorts to haween bashing, it's happening all over the place. X.Xunjuf ayaaba hadal wacan laga helay maanta. Similarly, statements like sida haweenkaad u hadashay iyo wixii la mid ah is just as offensive. It also reflects rather badly on haweenkaad ka dhalateen / la dhalateen.

The other day, I was telling a friend that Somalis and their lame Somali bashing videos should be banned from youtube. That was until, I came across these two girls. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDC1Ytp6CbM&feature=share LMAO. Watched it a million times and counting.... Such talent. So, Narnia.. what you got sister.. what you got..?
