  1. ^how much do they cost? I wonder how much horses cost back home and why does no one own them in the towns / cities? Tut, tut LST, you'd trade XF for this?
  2. I think it would be more effective for NZ Muslims to lobby their local MPs. Governments don't use internet polls to pass law, votes from constituent representatives (MPs) does influence legal amendments, however.
  3. ^Waad isla kabaraadaysaa, ninyow. Let the believers be hadii kale, Raabsade ayaa laguu bixin doonaa goor dhow.
  4. In Somalia women didn't have access to the support that this woman has here in Britain. Even so some did what they had to do and raised their children even with society looking down on them. Her excuse that she didn't want to dishonour her ' devout Muslim' family just pisses me off, killing a helpless little baby is the most dishonourable thing one can do in this world.
  5. She had choices, many, many choices and access to security and protection here in Britain but yet she decided to do the most evil and selfish thing to hand. 26 weeks in my opinion is not enough. I hate it when some people pull the cultural / religion card when it fits. Shame!
  6. Waaaw!!! Great comeback song fromg my favourit fanaan. Sidaad u heestaad Jubow u riyaaqayo Naftaad raali gelisee ... Thanks for sharing Carafaat.

As you are a mother yourself I am surprised at your stance I never understand why some women can't have cordial, polite relationship with their in laws from a distance. You cant mix with them, cross all boundaries then get annoyed As the other ladies said sheydanka Iska naar, be patient and forgive. Ps: no one should have hold or ownership over you apart from your parents and Allah Couldn't have said it better. I would find it hard to love someone that was disrespectful to my parents.
  8. ^Giving da'wah cadaan jacayl ayay noqotay? There's a programme called open doors / open minds in the Dubai, where they give tourists and residents to tour Jumeriah mosque and learn about Islam and also a breakfast where again they get to eat and sit with locals to talk about Islam and also local culture. It really does build bridges.
  9. So lovely, seems like the city had been planned well. A neighbour is there at the moment and posting daily photos on FB. I guess we only get the gloom and doom of Xamar through the media. InshaAllah, hope it gets back to a completely peaceful state and to it's former glory.
  10. Oh well, you just have to keep wondering.

    Mogadishu jobs

even for a local that is pretty low.
  12. You should ask him. He has an active fan page on FB.
  13. ^How do you know that it was the Muslims who complained? Links? Abdul;816891 wrote: There are close to 1.5 million people who go through the transit system everyday and only 33 complained and this made it to the evening news. This says alot about the media. That's true, the media revels in these things. Look on the bright side, though. Now those who don't use the transit system also know about this and are thinking of the debate. You've got to love these little beauties in disguise. Alhamdulila calaa ku xaal.
  14. I wasn't being critical of the campaign, we must all strive to do da'wah. The add is provocative and that's not always a bad thing but sometimes subtle da'wah is also effective. I once had a bag with the hadith about true richness being that of the heart written across and people always commented on it. Anyway, those who seek Allah will find Him, kuwa kalena it's their choice.
  15. No probs, I'm pretty good at sieving out the necessary info. I took a peek @ the book on amazon and like the stuff on the African education system. It's a shame that many of us still put western ideals on a pedestal and and insist on replicating their curriculum.
  16. That's interesting. I think that poster is sort of in your face. I'm personally not offended by Christian ads, I find them refreshing to see in this materialistic world. There was a similar campaign in London and loved their approach which focused on the social issues. Londoners on the most part are a tolerant open minded and I bet most of the whiners on youtube are village people.

  18. I don't think the decision to not go back should be held against a person. Somalia / Somaliland doesn't need all of us.
  19. That sounds like an interesting proposition. Thanks for the info, will add it to my wishlist, along with Half the Sky.
  20. Somali TV is a joke. The producers seem to be happy to add fuel to qabil conflict on the ground.
  21. Archedmos, I'm not sure what system they have in place but in newly developed areas and new houses sewage is not so much an issue and you get 'dripping' tap water. I'm not so bothered about flies and such, you get used to it after awhile and you learn how to kill them , though the cats in Burco are something else. My little ones loved the goats, camels and deers. I did go with the lowest expectations, ever so was pleasantly surprised at many things and have stopped seeing the country as a charity project.
  22. They're slightly annoying, so wouldn't go as far as calling them uncivilised. If I do go back to would be to immerse myself in the sugaan and art for several months.

  24. Somaliland isn't that bad, the people on the other hand....
