Aaliyah, I was looking at this: Just went to her website and for that ridiculous price, it looks very tacky. Yes, living in Dubai had spoiled me. LOL. An abaaya can be wide and still have some structure and flare to it.

How about 1 Million Turks?

^Ma dhici karto, Taleexi waa qumay, mise inaguu isu keen xawaasheeyaa tolow? Lovely piece of writing. Axmed Deeq, Allah ha daayo. Raga dhaqanka xun inay raga kale u maan celiyaan ayaa qurux badan. Thanks for sharing, T.

I'm not really interested in the detail to be honest or this constant debate about faith. It just seems a bit fraudulent of these researchers to make that sort of generalisation when they haven't been clear about the research process.

^LOL. Waliba kuwani waa kuwa fahionable ka ah, most of them waxay xidhaan abu cumar. Haye, adigu maxaad u xidhi lahayd? Guntiino iyo dirac? I love Malaysian and Indonesian hijab styles, so simple and elegant. Turkish hijabis are very sophisticated too, though I don't really like their bright, satin khimaars.

I'm not really a follower of trends but it is becoming easier to find long dresses, skirts and beginning to realise that most of my recent khimaar purchases are from the shops on the high street, so glad that they are finally catering to our needs as consumers. Chohan saw a gap in a market flooded with polyester abayas and over-embellished abayas that are impractical and only suitable for special occasions. "Young, fashionable Muslims are struggling to buy clothes from the Western, high-street shops, because of the unsuitable hemlines and necklines, and they resort to wearing layers, which are very hot and uncomfortable in the summer. So that is why I created Barjis, to fill this gap, with practical, high-quality, modest and fashionable day and evening wear for the busy, modern woman." Her autumn/winter collection features abayas with peter pan collars and dresses designed to be worn over trousers. Sadly, her clothes are ugly. I was watching Lilonel Richie trace his ancester a few weeks ago, it's very interesting. I wish we were a record keeping sort of people. Not so bothered about the qabiil but would love get a glimps of what life was like from my great, great ayeeyoyin and awoowo. The ancestary only looks at the mens side, whilst I know both parents awooyaal to their qabiil. Ayeeyoyinka, I could only go as far back as hooyos ayeeyo.

^Qabiil doesn't benefit women at all, they don't get the perks odayaasha enjoy and suffer the most when tribes go to war, some don't get it laakin. Qaadhaan is the tribal trust fund, used mainly to bail out the killers and sometimes to build schools.
-
errm.. would it be too clever of religious little to enquire about the sample size, sampling strategy?
-
Not rapists, people who force our little boys into war.. ?
-
Dumar qabiil ma laha. Heh. Greatest lie ever told!

Watching this now. So brutal.

^haye, eedo, qolomaad ahayd. I don't mind either, I find it annoying when they try to play smart and ask if your related to such politician or live in such xaafad. Makulaal, Most African, Arab and Asian states are tribal. Somaali wax kale ayaa haya, trust me. If it isn't qabiil is Islamic interpretation that is dividing them.

^Kaalay bal, ii sheeg, meesha qabiil dartii geela lagaga caraaro? Hoos u hadal yaanu Showqi ina maqline. LOL The virtues and evils of qabiil are over rated. There's some use, there's some misuse, it just so happens that Somalis are collectively myopic . There are many other qabiil based societies who aren't bent on self destruction.
-
^Actually, many reer magaal had had made their wealth through livestock export. I'm guessing halaha are way more expensive than awrarka.

^That cancels out your post, no?

Mario, make lemonade and all that jolly stuff keeps me going.. and I love dune bashing!

They need to learn how to feed themselves again before they can begin to address environmental concerns. The irony is it may be too late when that day dawns, if ever. I'm beginning to lose hope in Somalis and their constant small mindedness. We're a petty people who constantly fail to see the bigger picture, the sad thing is i think we are yet to reach rock bottom. Well said, we can't even begin to address the endless list of environmental issues, until we resolve the abuse of human life... On the bright side, Dune Bashing could become a national past time in the future, the Arabs are making mad money through it.

^Bisinka. I don't even know siduu shukaasigaasi ku bilaabmayba? Marna waa Abti, marna xabiibi. Yuk!

XX, I didn't change it, just opted not to use an avatar and ended up the Camel. I guess one must use an avatar on SOL but I've legendary love for camels so I'm not complaining. Mario B. I don't know, walaal. Not sure if a fatwa on this practice exists, yet...

Polygamy or marrying your cousin is not a big controversy in Arab (and Somali) culture.. 2 weddings on the same night ayaa sheeko cusub ah, read about a few Somali guys who did the same recently. Aduunyo wareersan wax walba ka sug, Illaahayow karaamada hanaga qaadin.
