  1. Originally posted by Entrepreneur: London, magac dheeraa oo xumaa! London is not as good a place as it sounds: It is comparable to any third world metropolitan (Abidjan, Nairobi). Coming from a developed part of the world to London would certainly be an experience and I wish you good luck: Here are a few survival tips: -Make sure you say sir, madam, mate, etc everytime, everywhere. They love "morning sir, morning madam, mate etc). - Make sure every sentence you say contains the word thanks (it must be the only place on earth where you even say thank you when being wronged , robbed. -Make sure you take shower/bathe before you come because water seems to be scarse. I don't get the rationale of having two taps (hot and warm)everywhere! be careful, you might burn a body part in the process of having the right mix of warm and cold water. -Make sure you have your visa card in a safe place because things taken for granted in many parts of the world could lead to robbery. (opening an account, carrying a visa card etc is a thing for the privledged in her majesty's country) -Make sure that you give yourself a 4 hours margin of error when you want to meet someone (transportation is better on donkeys than buses) -Make sure to bring sleeping tablets. most somalis don't go to bed until 3 am...... -make sure you can cook and can use boilers, cookers etc. because most of your hostess would be asleep by breakfast and lunch time. -make sure you go to southall , wembely and upton park and pay a visit to the somali restaurants (make sure you got a TBC, hepatices) vaccinations before you visit the restaurant. -Be careful . not many somali londeners have a driver's license or car insurance. Get an extra cover before you come! Misinforamtion of the centuary. Expect a Court order from me mate

  3. The question should really be are you a Muslim. For some strange reason many of us seem to think that to be Somali you are automatically Muslim and anyone who isn't a Somali Muslim has deviated from the Somali way of life. I have come across quite a few Somali gaalos, who are Somali as one can be .. but they arn't Muslims - I got no beef with them! However, what really bothers me are the Somali Mulims that copy cat gaalo so much - you wonder wethere they have ever picked up the Quran. is like they are muslims when with the Somalis and Islaam lama sheegto marka dadka kale lala joogo.... There are a lot of hypocrites arround walaahi - and they bother me more then those who are at least honest about their faith - like the Mohamed geezer in this article. Allow noo sahal  I would advice all those 'ifi' type of Muslims - If you want to carry the banner of Islam then stop mocking the Ayat of Allah... when we leave this little world your Somalinimo will not save you from hell, you need to follow that teachings of the Quran for that. So yes walaalo, I am Somali but before that (or any other label) I am a Muslim - by choice .

I don't even see the point, you been to one wedding you been to them all. In London weddings are like riwayads walaahi, no one even notices the pride and groom - it is all pointless. By the way! Wats u sayin bredrin, is u an ex Londoner - guwaan wid your London twang, looks like u ain't lost it, yet. So what manor is U loaftin at the mo. been trying to get outa this city , get me. wanna check out the towns ... so tell this lass all about the red necks
  5. Bari Nomad, Gediid and King would ya'll actually consider wearing the macawis @ your weddings.. i thought brothers were too shallow for that  But, that sounds promising How come no one is posting any pictures of Togdheer and Berbera - come ya'll keep it fair Whils't, we'r on culture and art. this is by far the most beautiful piece of work I've come across. It's by Amin Amir.
  6. Okay, its my turn to rage on about something. The state of Somali brothers in qurboland leaves a great deal to be desired (if am generous). It seems that generally speaking the sisters are way ahead of the brothers in terms of educational achievement, jobs and the upholding of culture. Whilst, young Somali sisters across London and the UK are being praised for outstanding academic performance, unfortunately the same cannot be said about the male counterparts. The number of Somali boys getting excluded from school / secondary school drop outs is on the increase, so is the number in jail, the number hanging out in marfishs and drug addicts, etc. Also, just by looking at the youth you can see the difference, almost half the sisters in London are in hijab (bandana style-at least), whilst the majority of our boys seem to have difficulty in comprehending the use of a belt, real men do not wear their surwals below the waist .. get it!! (hehhehhe, just had to get that one out) Furthermore, when talking teens you can also see the gap in their attitudes, unlike the boy most sisters have high aspirations. They all want be doctors and nurses and teachers. Our wonder-boys on the other hand seem to follow the status quo – they all want to be IT technicians – no pun intended here, but how many IT personnel can one (undeveloped) country hold? Another common goal of almost every Somali boy is wanting to be a bad-ass-MC and a footballer. p-u-h-l-e-a-s-e! In the house and relations with parents, these youths act like the kings of France, they don’t cook, clean or even wash the very plate they are served with. I’ll stop the comparisons, as I don’t wish to annoy and show up my baby brothers further. So, Nomads am I being fair / unfair? Why? And most importantly, what do you think is the cause of this?
  7. loooooooooooool@ Gediid. Damn, your heartless ... Hana soo ag marin!
  8. I am complicated .. it takes people month, years to work out my personality
  9. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think they are all very beautiful sisters if you look at it purely from an artistic and cat walk perspective. They have nice figures ... YEah, the type of figure ya'll die and starf for.. and there something about their facial features - it is symetrical - really interesting! I think they are all beautiful in their own way -espcially Iman, man if I look like that when I reach her age --- waan is carwi lahaa But, beauty here is not defined in the conventional Somali way - where girl has to be light skinned, long soft haired with a lil meat.. na mean! Any how, somone though they looked good and is paying ridiculous sums of money for their 'beauty' - so their ain't no point in hating and raving about it

    Tea pot

and we barely give Thanks. thnx for that sweets
  11. Gediid Lol your such a conventionalist walaalo – The champion of the status quo…have you been knighted yet? Perhaps it is going to take a long time move from tribal politics but you can deny that this change needs to be made and will be made. Anyhow, using Sland as an example, the parties created were supposed to address this very issue – so I don’t know where you getting you no cure argument from. Admittedly it hasn’t work as it was supposed to but I think given time and education of the people – Somalis can most definitely over come tribal politics. I came across this article. See progress has already begun. Soon, In-Sha- Allah, we’ll have forward-looking people in the whole of Somalia. It is only a matter of time. Here’s the article. Enjoy! Togdheer Women on Leadership – The Horn Tribune Sunday March 09, 2003 Buroa (THT) – Traditional leaders in Togdheer have been advised by Togdheer Women groups to shy away from political activities since their positions are non-partisan, being representatives of people with different political beliefs and ideologies. The statement released by the Togdheer women groups states; we women from Togdheer request sultans of Somaliland and Togdheer in particular to: 1. Appreciate the responsibilities vested on them 2. Differentiate between tribal leadership and political affiliation 3. Stick to the mandate of their office 4. Desist and refrain from ordering people on which part to join 5. Understand that their main mandate of office is tribal leadership and peace maintenance and you never vie for any political offices as their post surpasses any political office Tribal Leaders have no business in Politics – Togdheer Women Now, that is what I call GIRL POWER!

  15. loooooooool Brothers in London getting like that too.. something to do with more choice .. why bother marrying when you can do every thing with a girlfriend you don't have to answer to.. why settle for one women when you can have on e in every district? Man, if i was a man I'd be a dawg (is that the right term?). See in Somlia or Muslim countries hadii gabadh lagugu arko .. wey kuu dhamaatey .. u got her whole tribe in ya face .. now it aint like that. But they get tired of all that 'shid' in the end...maybe u just coming across them at wrong season
  16. Whatever the job. Speak to people that are in the filed and try and get some exprience yourself, even if it is unpaid .. it is really worth it. But don't worry too much about it babes, it is better to check out different majors and then choose the one you like the best. Most universities give you that option in the first year. Ilaahay ha kuu Sahlo

  18. The brother only asked a Q. Yussuf Bro. I think it has a lot to do with womens psychological make up. See where men only pay attention to the here and now .. us women have an almost obssesive tendcy to analyse things to the last dot. We interact more, have more meaningful chats ... that is why there are more women in caring professions and why we live longer ............. lol Communication I think is the most important factor in any human realtionship. More especially when your in a loving relationship. When a brother doesn't wanna talk to us women tend to feel unloved .. talking is a gateway to emotional connection cos how can you you be connected if you don't talk? We have to know taht you like our little habits and that you appreciate our opinions and our existence. it is good to talk .. so next time. .. switch of the footy and ask your wife what she wants to talk about
  19. somalians people are mixed with different race and we are proud of it. looooooooool yaa waxaa kuugu sheekeeyey
