lol@ Speak for yourselves. I don't abuse anything! anyways, somalis arn't that bad - came across any nigerians, algerians, indians lately? My, we are angelic compared to some communities!! But, i think some Somalis suffer from dhaqan shoog - so they finf it hard to act right - the norm as dictated by the culture of the hoste country, forum etc. Markaa, I would go with Lakkads' mass education idea - but what ideology are you dictating? I would also, say that Somali need time to adjust . Things are looking up from where am standing!

Who would come first? A pious, nice Somali or a convert black/white guy? Runtaa fiican in laga hadlo. lol Honestly, A Somali (whatever tribe) would come first. A muslim is still a Muslim - wether society considers his tribe to be an outcast / or an enemy! I prefer marrying a Somali brother cos I think I can relate to him more - but i don't rule out inter racial and respect those in it. Alxamdulilah, my parents don't watch qabiil - !! But some of my friends parents discourage them from other tribes - i mean sub tribes - thats sick!! Latefah! Your welcome walaalo! Your a sweetheart yourself

silent sistah Ameen. Originally posted by SamiGyrl: Silent sistah thanks for your post walalo, I would say what you wrote if people in Somalia proper, would stop calling my people Traitors, and the dreaded "Ido....." word, not to mention all the other words, till then I guess am just gonna have to continue using "Somaliland" Citizen Sami Walaalo, I know exactly what your talking about. But you have to relise that the people that make those remarks are not worth the time of day. Not only does Somaliland exists, it is continues to develop and proof their speculations of failure wrong. The idiots that call landers traitors or use those derogatory terms do not speak for other Somalis (or Southerners as u put it) - Their sick mentality is their own and you know what - they are entitled to it 9only danbi bey ka heleyaan) - just don't let them drag you down with them- waxaas waa laga weynaada! And lets hope for peace and stability for our brothers - and sisters in the South . They deserve it just as much as the Somalilanders- I must say, I really admire your passion for Somaliland - but dissing others kinda discredits your effort - think about it! All those who are cussing out Samy G. She is young - easy on her! I hope people would stop patronising and disrespecting Somalilanders so much.

Where is Bin Laden? When Bush asked, he laughed and said he didn't know! I was reading this article on the PAN American movement. It argued that AlQaeda itself was created by America.. makes perfect sense as America used AlQaeda to fight with the Russians! What has AlQaeda done for the muslims - nothing!!
-
Latefah sweets! I think Nur, Yacquub and all the nomads gave you good advice. so whats left for me is to wish you khair and barakah! Personally, I view all muslims as one. However, there are cultural barriers that you would have to overcome.. but that's not that much of a deal - every couple goes through a period of forming. Hook him up with Somali brothers though- might help! Best wishes

Thanks sis. I was also under that impression. Laakin, I get a little confused on emails that have nice little reminders BUT then ask you to send to an x number of people in order to recieve a blessing.....!! is this also a form of chain letter - I find that quite intimidating, ya know. They can say forward without making promises of miraclces or blessings - they don't know ....!! But what do ya'll say?
-
Sophist A bit of both actually. Didn't have much time to comment! Enterpreuner Understood! But I think, ruling out flags and regional nicks - is taking things to another level. as long as we respect each other - i don't see it as a problem. wether the person is tribal minded or not. I am sure Admin would take care of tribalist statements - as they do!
-
It is all really embrrasing for the Premier. espcially to face prosecution from Blair and Co. Wifey taking him to court hahahahaaha! Did anyone watch 'This Week' on BBC1 last Thursday - Micheal Mansfield called Britain and America 'Terrorist States' and accused them of being just as bad as AlQaeda and the IRA !!! Man, I love life and this country, gawd save the Queen
-
Sophist And you could not leave it at that huh! Just had to clarify myself dear, no offence intended (but I am sure, you've already gathered) The quandary of a self-effacing lady! My darling to agree with a sophist is jolly thing to do generally though sometimes we have no choice but to disagree because of persevation of some image@lol Nice bit of humour you got there. HAHA!! Originally posted by Infatua.5an: what a cold sista..ouch That is not cold darling! It is a reer London thing, so butt out of it - intending to sound cold here! Enter... What about the flags and the nicknames? is this permissable? Don't get me wrong I am not attacking any region or person, but flags and nicknames do have a tribal connotation. don't you think so? Walaalo, I think the nomads should be given the right to express pride in their identity. Everyone is from a region and we all have different political affliations - so there is nothing wrong with expressing it (as long as it is done in a respectful manner). Taking away that liberty in a sense supreses the true character of the nomads. The problem with some people is that they refuse to accept and respect the opinions of others without getting emotional and insulting. [ June 10, 2003, 07:03 AM: Message edited by: Ameenah ]

Originally posted by Sophist: Salaams, Amiinaah! woow cimrigaaga oo dheeraada geel dhalaaya waa kutussaa! you have agreed with me! This calls for festivity! perhaps a merriment day in the first of July? Oh dear! What have I done Well, I am not one to turn down an invitation to merriment with fellow nomads. In fact, if it involves bariis and busketi.. then I am definately in. Besides, I was running out of reason to celebrate the 1st of July but this is a good enough excuse. However, I hope this doesn't in anyway commit me to a 'nacamle' type of agreement with you (Heaven forbid!!). As much as I respect your peculiare views, I would hate to frequent agreements with you as this might put my life time membership @ the inner city kids anti elitist club *joke* Note to self: be very vigilant of who you agree with Kidding bro. Easy

Originally posted by LATEAFHA: The view that the veil (Hijab or face cover) has been made compulsory for women in Islam, by which their face other than the eyes, should be covered, is an Islamic opinion. Anything else against that is your opinion ( and don't call that islamic)! On the contrary walaalo. There are differencies of Islamic opinion with regards to the wearing of niqaab. There is no ayaah or authetic hadith which imposes the wearing of Niqaab on sisters. It is therefore, not complusory but optional and encouraged. Sheikh Albaani on Hijaab I hate to see a sister lose to the gaalo but you have to detach yourself emationaly from this case. Is America wrong to be vigilant considering the September 11 attackes? In all fairness I don't think so! And besides, they are only asking her to show her face in the Identity Card - no asked her to remove her niqaab. she can even ask for a female member of staff to view her licence should the need arise (as other niqaabi sisters do). This is not related but a few years ago in my area, two men and women carried out an armed robbery in a local chemist. The two women were dressed in niqaab, even though they were not muslims. Now, although the muslim community was not blamed for the offence, it got me thinking... how are we to know who / what is behind the fail? Walaalo, you have to understand that Identity cards that don't really identify an individual create legal loop holes that put both muslims and non-muslims a like at a disadvantage. And like Tamina said, as long as our obligatory duties as muslims are not being comprimised we should respect the laws of the state - just like the gaalo women in Saudi Arabia wear hijabs out of respect for the Islamic Shari'iyah. The sis has the option of moving to a muslim country ... but even their you'd have to unveil for passports and identity cards. Allah knows best... would love to see the out come of this case

Originally posted by Sophist: Salaams to you all, It has been sometime! Time has elapsed and indeed a feeling of postmodernism leaves us all gasping for more energy (at least that is how I am feeling—perhaps I am getting on) but to no avail. Such panting and wheezing is the actuality that makes some of us the real US. Am I loosing you or you are perhaps with me here my fellow reader? Consider this (uuh, I am with great effort trying to employ an analogy most of the dwellers of this forum may relate to us—hey MUJAHID don’t send me to COVENTRY because of this) a house party. The party is organised by a Somali chap and his invitees come with somewhat dilapidated attires; upon seeing this my dear host becomes livid!. Why is the question one needs to ask? is my fellow host being out of touch with reality--- I am sure I will be falling with a lot of people here with such unbecoming example and the brush with I am using with no specific regard! but hey!!. Indeed, a fellow should know his fellow; that is the whole essence of being a fellow. Or perhaps this fellow after a conscientious training of becoming alamode he requires certain antiquate from his star-crossed fellows—as far as clothing is concerned-~? Now my dear boy entrepreneur; it is good to feel such irritation but to air it in this manner is to overlook the forum writers pervading culture. I for one have enormous amount of views but to air them would be nothing short of trying to walk on water. My dear boy, as Maskiin Macruuf said; it is wise to leave those guys alone in their Newtonian inertia. A good departed friend (Alaha unaxariisto) once said to me “The more I get to know my fellow Somalis the less I expect from them’ not far from the truth I say. Sophist Nicely put walaalo! In the words of the legendery Omar Dhuule; " Hadii aynaan Heshiineyn, wa inaynu kala Hadhnaa, Kala Hawl yareeysanaa" I just so happen to be listening to that song. Good advice, I think

Niqaab is not abligatory it is optional. and although I have utmost respect for sisters who wear it. However, even the Scholars that encourage the wearing of niqaab . i.e Utheimeen of Saudi Arabia have stated that it is permisable to show your face in identity cards and passports. even in saudi arabia you have to show your face. I don't know why the sister had to make such a fuss. I really don't see the wisedom behind it!

Originally posted by opinionated: why most of us r sexually frustrated. Hon, the need for a girl/boyfriend is not a new phenomenon...it's been happening even ...(get this!)... in SOMALIA  .. [/QB] True that! Apparently it is even worse in Somalia now cos the people there don't have much else to keep themelves busy. Also, some of the sisters over there are more willing to keep the bf happy as their lively hood depends on it - thats what the people say at least. I think it is a reflection of the times that we are living in. One of the signs of qiyaamah is that 'faaxisha' spreads and becomes the norm. And it is not only Somalis - but ppl world wide. Anyhow, Adinku is Ilaaliya - don't worry bout no one else

Salaams Originally posted by Prettyboy: Dhaqan Celis would be one the solutions to rehab those youths Partly agree walaalo. But I think that is only a short time solution and it may sometimes have a more negative impact on some brothers as the boys in Somalia arn't so great themselves in terms of attitude. I know a brother that was sent back home for two years, he came back, started college two months later, he was hanging with the same faraxs again and back to his old ways. Shujui, But with the gents, the problem you highleted of them, get in all sorts of trouble is very true, but unsuprising to me. Its a given that this problem is likely to occur and continue to increase, given the fact that these youths you describe come from difficult backgrounds i.e. broken homes, domestic troubles etc etc. I mean i should know some of my good friends have gone through these stages and lucky have managed to sort themsleves out. But how comes their sisters aren't doing as bad? These youths grow up in the same household, within the same enviromenat and face the same problems - why they are the girls doing better then the boys? Could it be like Malikah and Opnionnated stated - that the boys are brought up differently to the girls - therefore it is not poverty etc... but rather out culture of double standards that is failing the boys? But these youths are youths and the lions share of the blame shouldnt be approtioned to them. The need help and guidence otherwise they will end up no where broke mest up and stuck in this countries system. I agree. But who sould be helping them? Enterpreuner The somali woman has also some abuse (greed). lol. This made me laugh. I agree with some of your comments espcially about the part on the changing roles of the father n mother with regards to the family. Laakin, aren't you being a little harsh on the mothers, had it not been for their adoption of the Super woman role - Somalis would have been in worse a situation. what about in household where the father works n the mother is a housewife - I think about 40 % of Somali households fit in to that (though gov. statistics would say otherwise) .... why is it taht their boys (and some girls) are still coming out confused? Nino Brown So we need to hald fast to our religion in order to survive this mad world True. However (being devils advocate), that seems alot easier in theory then in practice. Considering that Islam is in competition with variouse other cultures .. most notably with the very influential urban culture... would it be practicle to tell the youths to go to the mosque instead of hanging in street corners with thieir mates? Do the Mosques need to do more in attracting the youth? Thats about all taht I can type write now... will be back soon though. am just loving your reposnses. Thank you all for your thoughtful responses
