  1. Well, its finally here! That money saving miracle our hooyos and aabos (and husbands) have lways been praying for. A drug that makes you stop shopping... why I'd want to do that me don't know. I mean, what exactly is me gonna do with a fat bank account and all-that extra time? So ladies, say... is this good news, bad news? and for the record - this drug is actually for sale - so you'd have to shop for it? --------------------------------------------- MIAMI -- For those whose shopping trips leave their credit cards smoking and their bodies buckling under the weight of excessive purchases, help could finally be at hand. Doctors in the United States believe they have found the antidote to the medical condition known as compulsive shopping disorder - an anti-depressant drug widely available in the UK. A 16-week trial involving volunteer "shopaholics" at Stanford University Medical Centre in California reported that patients taking citalopram were able to curb their previously uncontrollable urges to shop. The 24 guinea pigs were selected because of the seriousness of their addictions; most had been compulsive shoppers for more than 20 years. One had bought 2,000 wrenches, another owned 55 cameras and others had racked up more than £25,000 in credit card debt. Fifteen of the patients (63 per cent) rated themselves as "much improved" or "very much improved" after completing the course of medication and said they had lost interest in shopping. "I'm excited about the dramatic response from people who had been suffering for decades," said Dr Lorrin Koran, professor of psychiatry and behavioural sciences at Stanford. "Patients improved within one or two weeks. I've never seen anything like it. No disorder Iíve treated has reacted like this. I hope people will become aware that itís treatable and they don't have to suffer." The news comes too late for Imelda Marcos, the former first lady of the Philippines, who famously spent a sizeable chunk of her countryís wealth on jewellery and more than 3,000 pairs of shoes. But it might be of interest to celebrities such as the actress Winona Ryder, who "bought" £4,000 of designer clothes in a Beverly Hills shop (but neglected to pay and was convicted of theft), and the singer Elton John, who admitted to spending more than £100,000 on flowers alone in a £40 million spree lasting 20 months. Compulsive shopping disorder affects up to 8 per cent of the adult US population, with 90 per cent of the victims being women. The study group contained 23 women and one man. "Compulsive shopping leads to serious psychological, financial and family problems, including depression, overwhelming debt and the break-up of relationships," Dr Koran said. "People don't realise the damage it does." Earlier studies suggested that anti-depressants known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, of which citalopram is one, might be useful in treating the disorder, but the Stanford trial was the first time significant results were recorded in the use of the medication against a placebo. When switched to the placebo, five of eight patients relapsed, but those who stayed on the drug, marketed in the UK as Cipramil, reported a continued loss of interest in shopping, cessation of browsing for items on the internet or television shopping channels, and the ability to shop normally without making impulsive purchases. "Patients said to me: ëI go to the mall with my friends and I don't buy anything. I canít believe it and they canít believe ití," Dr Koran said. "They've been doing this for decades and now their urge to shop is gone." ©2003 scotsman.com http://www.thescotsman.co.uk/international.cfm?id=778492003
  2. Libaas Sanka Taabte Thats good to hear cousin. I knew I can depend on Barwaqo, waa shaqaale fir fircoon lol Samarouni Walaal, I don't know why I am getting a lesson on the politics of Puntland, my response was only directed at the 'puntland' banner caririers of this forum. Who seem as I said, a little undecided on the Somaliweyn issue. Bari Nomad Must you quote -unquote my every little sentence? Anyways, I am not the biggest fan of the UDUB adminstration so I'm not gonna bother responding to your statements regarding Mr Riyaale and his activities. He to me is like Yaasir Arafat a complete moron who represents a concept that benefits his people. Shame about their tactics  Oh, just out of curiosity - what do think of Punland and Sland forming one state - would that work? As LST said it's always good when Somali peoples join together *peacefully*. It would be one step closer to Somali Unity. But the leaderships and peoples seem to have diverging goals at the moment. Ahaaa! My sentiments exactly, so in the mean time ya'll have no case against Slands stance on 'unity' - it isn't the time for it as you said. Why the contradiction markaa? Why do we criticise a region for looking out for it's best interest whilst questioning wether another region should follow suite?
  3. Well, most of us have sort of changed our citizenship ... I did and paid for it too! So, if some Carab decided to pay for my Citizenship - I would thank him for it Its not as if being Somali - is worth much these days is it? I'd gladly give up being a suspect of seeking asylum / immigration fraud or being connected to AlQaeda A few Somalis play for Qatar - but one thing that I noticed is that although they give them Citizenship, their nationality becomes some what of a surname - Like Hebel, Hebel alSomali - even though he is a qatari player - I can live with that... though I got the feeling carabtu arn't being exactly nice by pointing out their nationality to the folks

  11. Africa, your welcome sis. It is a sad state of affairs. We seemed to have forget what it real means to declare shahaada but we'll get there i'a. You know, I was reading some where; that sometimes people see the truth and they ignore it because it means making sacrfices - there are so many gaalo that have Islamic concepts and live with Islamic principles... I feel bad for them cos they're sort of wasting a great deal of goodness Originally posted by rudy: ms africa! while our house is burning, shouldnt we try to save our house first than other people's house!!!!!!!!!! u catch my drift! As muslims we all share the same house. We might live in different rooms but it is still the same house. Besides all the sister did was cite ONE article in a forum full a tons of Somali-related articles. So, darling we are solving our problems but who says that we can't spare a thought or two for our fellow muslims? Don't be so anti-good-will people. Caring about the state of others is what makes us human
  12. Well, I was supposed to be going back to school this year. But decided I wanted to be a right lil xaliimo for a year, shove over Barwaqo GOOD luck peepz and never over do it. My principles have always been minimum affort and max results. Enjoy it all you can and Best of wishs
  13. It's one thing to be a Somali nationalists, but to what extent? Will you force it down the throats of people weather they like it or not? Will you start a war to realize the aim of a united Somalia? Will you whip out an entire group who oppose your vision and want to leave? What price are we willing to pay for Somali Unity? How much blood will be shed? That's what I have been thinking about lately. lol@ you should be directing this to the 'lovely' guraad and pal-talk. Their 'we will gun fight Somaliland into unity' sentiments had me laughing walaahi. Kills the whole principle, don't it? Anyway, walaal. It seems that you and me are on the same chapter now. I suppose you've been listening to what some nomads have been trying to tell ya'll all along. UNITY is great in principle, but if the people at home choose otherwise you cannot and should not impose it upon them. Somalis do a great deal of talk, laakin they don't follow it with action. People cannot be uited through talks that take place in another country - away from the people that it affects. But I don't support them taking everyone else in the former British colony with them! The reason why the claim all of British Somaliland is because it gives them some political ground to stand on . Lets not forget that all the elders of the regions that makeup Somaliland agreed to be a part of the independent state in 1991. The government of S.land did not force SS&H into S.land did it? The regional debate between Sland and Puntland is a new one. I agree that it should be resolved and no one group should force the peoople to join their state. Let them decide who they want to be with. and end of discussion. A future Somali government should give the people of the NW a choice in their own future--weather to stay or leave. See thats the problem, what is Somaliland to do in the mean time? Sit around and wait for this mysterious future government to be formed? Why give up something that already works (Slander had never had it this good) for an idea? Because, if truth is told, right now - Somalia is just an idea - nothing promised, nothing concrete. Shouldn't S.land P.land and other regions continue to better their regions? Oh, just out of curiosity - what do think of Punland and Sland forming one state - would that work?
  14. Cool, May I suggest that we try and keep it clean folks. Leave dead people and islaamoha out of this seasons debates..pls
  15. Originally posted by Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar: Salaan... What a dismal and sad thread! A lot of folks in this thread are a bit laba-wajiiliyaal . While simultaneously undermining the sovereign aspiration of Soomaaliland, they can even entertain the "independent" movement where their respective clans live, not defending the Soomaali integrity and unity. I thought nationalists were/are nationalists no matter what, and ready to defend the national issues, no exceptions made. Alas, it isn't that way always. looooooool. I was waiting months and months for some one to say that. I suppose to some people the integrity of Somaliweyn is only an issue when it involves Somaliland.  Either respect the wishs of Sland to be an independent state - or kala hadalka joojiya!
  16. I think man of wisedom wants in la caayo  To answer your question walaalo. Read up on Somali Politics of the past 10 years and you'll have an answer

We are gonna give Arsenal a re-run and take waya their trophies- and Chelsea lol Anyhuh, its all about management ya'll and you know we got that sorted
  19. Interesting Article. I was lost with bit about the movie. However, do you guys notice that the ladies feature had bad expriences with men? I can understand why they hate so much and appreaciate that it is an obnormal state that require fixing (through therapy). I don't know to what extent this article can be generalised to Somalis - I think the author taget audience was more kaafir-America. From my expriences of professional Somali women, I'd say that it is invalid in a nut-shell. As muslims we have completly different psych to Ally McBeal and co. Anyways, I thought the conclusion was pretty well summed up. Heterosexual society has been under sustained psychological attack designed to arrest human development and decrease population. Feminism is the weapon of choice. It encourages women to deny their femininity and act like men. Totaly true. In "The Business of Strangers" both women have become hunters. As a result, they hate men but worse they hate themselves. Victims of a diabolical plot, they have mutated. Thats is the affect of feminism on women. This movement doesn't serve us in any way but to take us from Allahs' prescribed system. They need a man's love in order to be themselves again. I agree with that again. Men and Women have a psychological, emotional and physical need for each other. This is what Allah revealed : And among His signs is this, that He has created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may dwell in tranquillity with them; and He has put love and mercy between you. Verily in that are signs for those who reflect. (30:21) ^^^^^^ That is just beautiful^^^^^ I must stop
  20. Wa Calykum AsSalaam Wa Raxma Tulaahi Wa Baraaktu Yeah, to echo Latefah - we missed u up in here
  21. Somalis are Muslims Israelis are on Palestinian soil, opressing and killing etc. the ppl of Palestine Palestinians + Somalis = Muslims Thats the connection brother. Coming back the article, I think Mr Burg has taken a very honourable position with regards to the Isreali occupation of Palestine and his predicaments very true. Palestine will be victorious I'A Children who are honest admit, to their parents' shock, that they do not know. The countdown to the end of Israeli society has begun. I am putting money on that
  22. ^^ Nice Article sis. Thank You I agree with Lucky and co. One thing that I never understand is why most women would dismiss a less educated man in a flash. As long as he is not being lazy and is taking care of the finance, should it matter wether he has a masters or just his GCSE's. Education is great but it doesn't always = intelligence or the lack of it. So why is it that ladies are so quick to snub a brother on the basis of his / level education?
