lol@ they just confused. Look at Beyounce, she strts off as this decent chruch gal droping singles like 'nasty girl'. Than we see her rounchy videos and sexually explicit lyrics. Now we she is raising awareness about aids. If she starts claiming to be a born again virgin, I wouldn't surprised! Anyways, What are they trying to achieve by singing bout aids? I.m sure people in Africa are aware of aids... what they need is proper resources. If they had any respect for the people that live with disease they'd doing more than sing about.

I did not codemn anybody and as a short term solution it is slightly effective. Aameen to that! Not only is she now wearing hijaab but the school is also aware of islamic rulings with regards to dress And the most important one to my mind why really did the chicken cross the road. I dunno. Was it being chased by Americans? I have no inclination to explain myself further- lets just agree to disagree.. or we'll be going round in circles for months..... Salaams and Ramadaan Kariim to you

lol@yous lot! I don't know whats more insulting the comments made by the copah or the'diversty' speach given by the daddy of bigots Blunkett- I mean its okay for him to make laws suggesting ethic minorities are terrorists than condemns other (more baltant racist) - he is the witch of the west! .. can't stand him!

Allah, hogaayeey. Not only am I being accused of promoting the UN Convention I am also ignorant  I should just go and bury myself. But before that Liqaye, wow! Walaal you have covered so many issues in your response, I'm finding it hard to decide which angle to approach your theories. I personaly see this Hijaab case separately to what is happening in the Muslim world and the UN convention. There is a differnce between a Muslim living in the west and one that lives in a Muslim country...the laws are different - obviously!! Firts, of all this is a case where a Muslim living in a kaafir state is being refused their right to practice their religion. A Muslim is being stopped from worshiping Allah. In your line of thinking, your saying as long as we are in their countries they can tell us what to do. They have the right to dictate how a Muslimah should dress, they have the right ask you to stop worshipping Allah and we are to sit there and take it like dogz. If thats your arguement walaal. Than aniga iyo adiga are not in the same planet. What I am saying is, that since we are living in their countries and are bound under their laws. See, if you got burgaled you'd use their judical system right? If a member of your family was murdered you also use their judical system. Now, why shouldn't we use their laws when our rights are being hampered with? What makes harrasing a sister (beacuse being refused to wear hijab is a form of harrasment) any lesser crime? Liqaye, it is so easy for you to sit there and condemn people for standing up to gaaloda by beating them with their own laws BUT you fail to provide a solution for the problem. What other options does she have? She can migrate to a Muslim country - not always an easy option besides she could be an American convert and that changes the things slightly. She can just go home and sob about the victimisation of the muslims in the west. Perhaps, she can wait till she graduates and move to a Muslim country where she can start being a Muslim again. Or she can do a 'Malcolm X' and send that moron of a head teacher to an early grave - I personaly would like the later -- what would you do? As for the UN Convention. I didn't once refer to it, so I find your accusation of my promoting it rather amusing. The only refernce I made to Human Rights legislations was with regards to the hijab case. I remeber saying something about consisting of laws that contradict the shariiciyah and that the shariiyah was superior in another topic....!! As for the state of the Muslim world. Walaal, it might be tempting to sit back and play the victime but the truth of the matter is we are weak because we choose to be. America and the west are only making the most of a situation created by the Muslim world. This reminds me of that hadiith of the Prophet (saw) nations will attack you like a dish.. when asked if it was because of our small number, He said it was due to us loving the world and hating death.... You can either do something to change the situation or keep writing conspiracy theories.... me personaly is not a keen writer

Interesting article: Sorry, no room at the office Somali women face job discrimination by Mafo Kamanda-Kosseh Like many Somali women, Saida Mahamed came to the United States to escape the civil unrest in her homeland. Aided by a daughter already in the country, the 57-year-old Mahamed moved to Minnesota to find work. She hoped to earn enough money to send some home to help support her husband and children still living there. But finding work in her new home has been more difficult than she anticipated. Although she attended a few English classes, she isn't fluent, and that has held her back. At one point, she found work assembling computer parts. But after three months, her supervisor summoned her and asked her to sign her name in English on a piece of paper. "I couldn't," she admitted. She was dismissed from that position and hasn't found work since April 2001. "I thought I would work in Minneapolis. Everywhere I go, I say I am strong and can work. ... I don't think I'll ever work in Minneapolis." Every day, an average of 14 women walk through the door of the Somalian Women's Association (SWA) looking for work. Opened in 1996, the SWA provides employment and training assistance to new immigrants. Like other new immigrants, Somali women have to overcome numerous barriers to employment, including language, dress codes, transportation and affordable housing. Many Somali women have never held a paying job before. In Somalia, it is customary for men to be the breadwinners while women are responsible for the family and home. They often have limited access to schools. They arrive in the United States as single parents, having lost their husbands in the civil war or left them behind in Somalia. But since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, the women have also felt increased discrimination and increasing suspicion toward immigrants, especially those from Africa and the Middle East. Somali women in particular are easily distinguished by their long, flowing dresses and head coverings. Many of them say they have been verbally and physically harassed in the streets and turned down for jobs because of their dress. These subtle and not-so-subtle instances of discrimination have further reduced employment opportunities for Somali women, according to SWA Director Amal Yusuf. Between January and July of 2001, the SWA helped 118 women fill out job applications for multiple employers. Twenty-four of those women found work, mostly as janitors or in other entry-level positions. During the first six months of this year the number of SWA job seekers leaped to 185, but only 14 found either full- or part-time work, despite attempts by the SWA staff to contact new employers. Of 69 new employers the SWA contacted, only one responded, Yusuf said, and that was to say there were no jobs. She estimates it's the toughest market since the SWA opened six years ago. "When the job counselors at SWA call companies, they have job openings. But when we take clients, we were often told that the positions were filled and most of the time, the women were not called for an interview, even when they have skills and experiences in these particular areas," Yusuf said. Employers often object to the way the women dress, citing it as a safety concern. As part of their Islamic faith, many Somali women wear a jalaabiib, a full-length dress than covers everything except the face and hands. Qalio Samatar, 22, recalled an instance when she, along with a job counselor and 15 other Somali women, walked into a factory that manufactures computer parts. "They looked at us from head to toe and said, 'you can only wear pants.'" The women pleaded with the employer, offering to wear a shorter head scarf known as a khamaar or jiaab, but the employer still refused. Samatar is now working at a temporary job. Some employers also object to the reddish-brown henna dye used to create intricate designs on some women's hands. The Islamic faith forbids women to wear makeup, including nail polish, during prayer. As an alternative, women have sought out natural products, like henna, as a way to adorn themselves. At a food processing plant, they were told the decoration was a health risk, even after the women explained the markings are permanent. Another Somali woman, Saida Mohamud, 27, said she applied for a job on an assembly line Sept. 11, but was toldjust after she was offered the job during an interview on Sept. 12that the position was no longer available to her. While discussing hours and scheduling with the hiring staff person, he abruptly excused himself to speak with a supervisor, she recalled. When he returned, he explained that he did not know the policy well enough and therefore did not know he couldn't hire people who didn't speak English. In partnership with Hennepin County, the SWA is working to improve employment opportunities for Somali women. The SWA, together with the Hennepin County Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP), has implemented a program to help women improve their English and their job skills and to provide help with housing, life skills and immigration issues. The Welfare Innovations and Solutions for Employment, or WISE project, targets Somali women in the core cities, but also is reaching out to the suburbs, and particularly Eden Prairie, where a growing number of Somali women have located. This year, the SWA began offering ESL and job skills classes in both Eden Prairie and Minneapolis. The classes focus on preparing the women for entry-level jobs and helping with transportation. When they complete the training, the women receive a stipend and are asked to make a commitment to accepting and retaining employment. Since the program began earlier this year, 40 women have completed the course, and 10 have found either part- or full-time work. Other initiatives include building strong relationships with employers. The SWA has built a relationship with Keller Meyer Building Services as a way of eliminating some of the barriers to employment, such as a dress code, so that the women can work while observing their religious practices.

Social Debate: IQ is below retardation level?
Blessed replied to Libaax-Sankataabte's topic in General
^^^ Well actually, I gave it some thought ... If we are compared to technically advanced nations such as Japan and Germany; we are lacking in the IQ department (retarded bit blunt formy liking). I'm not sure how these results were gathered but should it be based on tests that takeplace in the countries of the said nations than the results are more or less spot on. Majority of the Somali population are illiterate and the level of influence our (uneducated) warlords suggests that our people aren't very well equiped in the analytical department. I know I'm sounding a little harsh but if we weren't just morons, than, maybe just maybe we'd have a country -
^^ Hindue,Seikh.. same difference! why ony islams get picked on by every gaal?,,,, Asraa, Walaalo it is because we let them. Muslims don't really care about each other anymore. Our loyalty is measured along tribal and national lines. I just hope that this attack on muslims helps us wake from this nightmare - gaalo don't care wether your a Somali or a Paki - your just a Mulsim to them!

If I had no intention of marrying the person, than I wouldn't! And that should bare no reflection on the love I have for my parents. Somalia entered the arab league for economic reasons which makes sense because we trade mainly with arabs. We also historical connections with them, through Islam and trades. Some arabs have settled in Somalia - some Somalis claim to have arab ancestors - if you look at tribe geneology a few of the clan fathers have arab origines - I personaly don't buy this tosh that we were orginaly arabs but that those individuals were sheikhs who enjoyed high status and somehow - they beacme our for fathers - not exactly sure how laakin, a few people have written on the subject - so i'll look into it when i get more time.

Social Debate: IQ is below retardation level?
Blessed replied to Libaax-Sankataabte's topic in General
lol. I suppose that is one way of excusing our poor state of affairs. Laakin, it has to be asked how was the IQ level of the meantioned groups measured. What techniques were used? Sometimes these tests can be culture sensitive. Note those from richer countries scored higher. -
Ramadan Kareem all.. may Allah accept your efforts in sha Allah. Nur thank you for the articel and the inspiration.
